When you watch the anime i think "Bratja"(or "brother" in english) might be the next song you love, as its name implies being about the brotherhood between Al and Ed
It’s so cool hearing two instruments play a motif separately, then join up in beautiful harmony. I can totally see the two you mentioned representing the brothers and their journey together
Thank you for covering my absolute favorite piece of media ever!! The entire OST of both FMA (2003) and Brotherhood is a masterpiece and I'm glad you're enjoying the amazing story!
This video just got recommended to me and I'm so glad I clicked on it. When you said "yeah, this is Ed and Al", I gasped. How could I watch and rewatch this anime 50 times without knowing there's so much more meaning to the beautiful music I was hearing? Truly amazing. Thank you for this!
I'd actually say the deeper one is Ed. He's the older brother, more serious, determined to help his little brother. He remembers every bit of what happened, and feels the weight of that responsibility. This anime is TRULY one of the greats. I'm glad to have more people love this story, can't wait til you really get into it!
Yeah the Chello definitely follows Ed's arc more. It's also isolated at the start until the Violin accompanies it later mirroring the events of Ed fusing Al's soul to the armor. You can feel this parallel again with the intro and the very brief plucking of the Violin before it vanishes.
Love how Marco can pick up on and show us those subtle details of "oh, this and this instruments are the brothers!" it adds so much when listening to the piece the next time
I am so pleased you went to FMA: Brotherhood is just so fantastic for it's music. You can pick standouts like the main theme, Mortal Sin, Lullaby, Far East Suite and Fanfare of the Brave but could just keep going and going.
For a piece that's really only a minute or two long, I could really listen to you pluck it apart for hours. Honestly, between this and the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist's anime, there's SO MUCH music in that OST. I think the 2003 version was like 4 full CDs of OST and FMA: Brotherhood's OST is right alongside it. I could listen to you plucks songs off of those soundtracks for ages because there's just simply so much good music, even outside of the big-name highlight tracks like this one.
I think my favourite of the fmab ost has to be "The Day the Sun Disappeared", not only because of the context of when it's playing, but also because it feels so simple yet so incredibly heavy at the same time and that is just oh so fascinating to me.
@@Marcoweebball Since I don't know how much you've read I chose to be a little vague. I would not like to say something about what you haven't read yet, even if it is not a hard spoiler.
The original FMA and FMA:B soundtrack is so beautiful. Not only is the plot top tier but so is the music. I think my favorite OST has to be Trisha's Lullaby, absolutely gorgeous.
I'm so happy you are finally experiencing fullmetal alchemist. It's truly unlike any other shonen out there, one of the best things I've ever experienced.
Love to see a breakdown of FMA/FMAB. They are some of the best stories I have read/watched, and were the first anime my older sister introduced to me as a kid. They hold a special place in my heart, and I hope that they get you too. If you want some more anime/anime OST recommendations: - My Hero Academia's OSTs are incredible (I'd highly recommend You Say Run for a more upbeat, heroic feel, or Might+U for a very emotional experience). - Gurren Lagann's Libera Me from Hell or Sorairo Days (One of the greatest animes I have ever watched and this song is a major reason. It is the song that swells emotions during the epic moments. It combines Opera with Rap in what feels like a deathmatch. It's a song that never fails to get me pumped) - Bleach's OST are also a must when look at anime music, it has some of the greatest songs and a wide variety. (I highly recommend Treachery, On the Precipice of Defeat, Number One[All Versions], Never Meant to Belong) Good Luck on your anime journey, it will consume you but in a good way
"Pulling a Game of Thrones" is way too harsh of a criticism. Genuinely no piece of media on the planet has shit the bed that hard before or since. That's like the media-equivalent of capital war crimes, which Fullmetal-03 certainly did not do. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but for an anime-original where they basically had to invent the rest on their own, I think they did a fairly decent job of at least remaining tonally consistent.
@@IceMaverick13 i just call doing a different end to a preexisting series that upsets fans that, didn't mean to imply it was on the same level. sure it wasn't to the same extent, but a lot of people (some i know personally) loved the books but the changes made them quite upset. i will say this though, the early pacing of fma was superior to fmab hands down.
I've actually been meaning to go back to 2003 one since I haven't watched it since it was new. I remember liking the OST better (but could be nostalgia talking), it definitely had a different vibe though. Only downside of Brotherhood is some of earlier parts were condensed too much because for people who watched the 2003 anime it was rehashing what they already know. Haven't not read the manga I actually enjoyed what they did with the 2003 version.
Absolutely such a beautiful, heartfelt series. I haven't experienced anything quite as tightly written and planned out as Fullmetal Alchemist, which utilizes each and every one of its cast in meaningful ways. Exciting to hear you're reading through it, and I can't wait to see more content based on the series! Fanfare for the Brave, The Intrepid, and A Solider's Honor are particular stand-outs for me from the Brotherhood score, without potentially incurring spoilers.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a gem, I watched the original anime, I read the full manga, I watched Brotherhood... multiple times, I own Hagaren Song Files(the JP voice cast singing, WELL I might add), and it's definitely the first anime I recommend to anyone... which is a problem, because I've yet to find anything that quite matches it, so I'm essentially giving them the pinnacle as a starting point.
There is one song from the first FMA anime that is unique to that series and always stuck in my mind aside from Bratja. And it's unique to the series because it's the soundtrack for a character that doesn't exist in Brotherhood (at least to the extent she did in the first one). That song is called Dante. Though I remember an instrumental version in the show, but the one on the soundtrack has vocals with it. I would still give it a listen though.
I watched full metal alchemist brotherhood 4 times its sooo good.I am glad that you started it and reacting to its music! FMA has a lot of good ost , and very good opening and ending songs.
Since you're looking at the music of FMA Brotherhood do make sure to look back at the original 2003 anime OST to listen to "Bratja" it's a very emotional piece sung by an amazing choir. While I would describe the the Brotherhood OST as refined I would say the original anime OST is more raw, rough and sometimes very emotional.
I really hope that you will react to Made in Abyss. (Hanezeve Caradhina, VOH, Transcendence and Hanezeve) are amazing. In general Kevin Penkin is in my opinion one of the best composers.
Earing this piece of music always make me cry because when a tragic moment happen this music often plays. This anime is the only one who made me really cry it shows how good it is emotionally.
beautiful analyzis about the instruments being the brothers' voices! i strong recommend to you the "Land of the Lustrous" (or Houseki no Kuni) anime, it has some amazing themes in there and i love all of them but if i had to choose one it would be "Retreat"
Love that you're covering FMAB's soundtrack, there are some absolutely iconic tracks to be found here! I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on some of the darker and more menacing tracks like "Knives and Shadows" or "Envy Revealed", haven't seen anyone cover them with your level of analysis yet
I really think that Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the greatest manga and anime of all time. It's hard to name themes that aren't raised in this work. Here are the themes of war, inequality, revenge and forgiveness, parents and children, existential questions and much more. I fell in love with this series since the 2003 anime adaptation, but I think I like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood no less, not to mention the original manga. And of course, both adaptations have amazing soundtracks. Thank you, Hiromu Arakawa sensei! And thank you to everyone who contributed to the creation of the manga and anime!
Hey, it’s better late than never! Glad you’re enjoying Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood! Watched it when I was in high school, and the anime still holds up to this day. Personally, I think the topics being said in FMA has more significance now in this current time. Enjoy the ride.
Both FMA and Brotherhood have fantastic osts. Lot of great tracks worth to mention. Even the movies have some good stuff. My personal favorites are Bratja(Brother) and Philosopher's Stone.
I honestly didn't love the journey it as much as most people but i really like the theme and final message. Not many end and leave me satisfied and this did The lullaby gives me chills every time i hear it
a great surprise to see your reaction to FMAB. If you decide to watch the anime, there are so many tracks that you may find interesting. The OST definitely reflects the era of Amestris and its characters. One of the tracks that does something to my soul is Far East Suite. Can't explain its beauty. Thank you for the video! I've listened to plenty of your video game reactions (started from Devil May Cry 5 Vergil's theme and couldn't stop after that😊🎧) Happy to see the anime content.
Sem you reacting to this piece is so cool! Is really recommend "Trisha's Lullaby" from the same serie. It's one of my favorite pieces in this anime soundtrack
Once you've finished off the Manga (and I think probably after watching the show too, I can't remember if there are anime specific things referenced) there's a really interesting UA-cam series by Max Derrat on the takings from historical "real life" alchemical research that went into FMA, if you'd like to add yet another really intriguing layer to the entire thing. It's legitimately astounding just how much time Arakawa must have sunk into the research for writing it
Bratja / Brothers is a really beautiful song from FMA too. You should check it out or even if you have heard it before still do a video on it sometime.
Marco, if you enjoyed this piece you should listen to Bratja, it is for the alternative version of FMA, which is not in brotherhood, but it is in my opinion extremely beautiful.
It's great that you're reading all those manga. FMA is one of my favourites, both the manga and both anime series. Another one of the greats is Monster, both the manga and it's perfect anime adaptation. Very different from the mangas you mentioned, I think. For something completely different, I would recommend Mushishi. I love the manga, but the artistry and meditational mood of the anime I love even more. The music in this one is on another level, and I don't mean the OP song.
Despite it being from the first iteration of the Full Metal Alchemist anime. The soundtrack titled Bratja (Brothers) is probably my favorite and I hope you get the time to listen to it. It really (at least for me) incapsulates both the innocence and the struggle of the brothers.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is one of my favourite anime ever. I do not rewatch things that have around 50 or something episodes yet FMA is something I do once every couple of years. Really good story, entertaining characters and plenty of plot twists and secrets at the upper echelons of power and politics of that world. One of the few smart shonens I've ever encountered.
ohh Marco and FMAB 2 of my favorite things, i highly recommend looking up Bratja from the original adaptation, and many other tracks from brotherhood(tho i would prefer until you are finished so you can listen freely of any chance of spoilers).
Great video! I'd love to see you also react to Bratja (Brothers) from the 2003 FMA anime (with lyrics if possible since it is sung in Russian), I've been playing it on the piano since I first saw FMA it's my absolute favorite
I’d really love to hear your thoughts on another track with this leitmotif called “Trisha’s lullaby” that follows the same melody, but also has lyrics performed by the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra. Its haunting, but when you actually comprehend the lyrics as well it’s like a knife to the heart.
You should listen to "Bratja" from the first anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist. Bratja means "brother" in German, it's the theme for them! Also pretty happy that you want to read Akira, it's much richer than the movie version (even though it's a masterpiece). The manga is astonishing.
Highly HIGHLY reccomend anything from the Vision of Escaflowne soundtrack, some of Yoko Kanno's best work. "Dance of Curse" and "Black Escaflowne" Go hand in hand as the standout choices but I'm personally a big fan of "Ask the Owl", "Organ Pub", "Short Notice", and "Machine Soldier".
One of us! One of us! I've read so many manga and FMA is flawless - and Brotherhood is a wonderful adaptation. I actually love the original anime from 2003 as well despite it going off the rails when they caught up to the story and had to make stuff up; I'd argue both anime have excellent soundtracks with distinct vibes that manage to capture the themes and emotions so well. Edit: You're reading Death Note?! Oh, boy. Buckle up. I hope you enjoy the ride. :D And if you ever want to listen to the anime's soundtrack, I highly recommend it.
Please do "Lapis Philosophorum" from FMA: Brotherhood, amazing OST! It's not my favorite anime (Even tho it's still in my top). But objectively, I still think it is in fact the best anime ever released. It's just perfect, there is nothing wrong to say about appart from subjective points (So tastes and colors basically).
I wanna be here for the "Berserk" day... Just want to see your perspective on the "Gut's Theme", you bring the most intrestings perspectives on music. Love your takes ♥ (give it a shot to Berserk)
Three additional pieces you absolutely have to analyse: * Nightfall in Central City and Nightfall in Central City ~Fin~, especially the duality between the two * Trisha's Lullaby * the Requiem (the full name is a spoiler, but you will know when you get to the relevant scene)
Really enjoyed the video! Would highly recommend checking out the music for Frerien or Vinland Saga. Both are productions that caught me completely off guard.
oh, i forgot about this new channel. It would be great if Marco reacted to some monogatari OST especially "etoile et toi (edition le blanc)" or "Shinjuu [心中]"
My personal favorite is UNDO because eversince my parents and brother passed away, the song just hits me hard And lets just say I understand the urge to do human transmutation
I honestly could see the cello and viola/violin being reversed from what you said about the first and second parts being them, sure Al is literally bigger but he is also younger and tends to come at even the adult topics they are faced with from a more innocent(maybe naive?) POV where Ed tends to be a big realist and honestly pretty jaded for his age which might fit the lower tone of the cello better. That's just my read as a long time fan of the series, not really as someone with a music background so it's just my POV as a casual listener.
As an opera singer, you NEED to react to Over the Garden Wall. Not only is now the perfect time of year for it, it actually has real opera singing in it!
you should check out 2003 fullmetal alchemist too. It's basically a completely different story by the second half, but it's a really interesting take that is even darker and more thematically potent. That's not to say it's necessarily better because of that, it actually has the messier writing. but it is still really damn good. And dare I say, I think it has even better music. Listen to the main theme of it (Brothers), and I am confident in there being a VERY good chance of you agreeing.
Oooh shit, you little shit lmao. Bringing back emotions with this one. This piece has a very "bittersweet" feeling to me, and reminds me a lot of "Merry Go Round of Life" from Howl's Moving Castle. Very beautiful, but very somber AT THE SAME TIME because you can't remember the good without the bad. Even more so when YOU were the reason why the "bad" is in the mix 🥺
Fullmetal Alchemist is a MASTERCLASS in storytelling, I couldn't be happier that you are finally exploring it and its music

For something completely different, I would recommend Mushishi. I love the manga, but the artistry and meditational mood of the anime I love even more. The music in this one is on another level, and I don't mean the OP song.
Both anime versions of FMA have great soundtracks. From the original series, I’d recommend ’Bratja’
Despite it being from the first iteration of the Full Metal Alchemist anime. The soundtrack titled Bratja (Brothers) is probably my favorite and I hope you get the time to listen to it. It really (at least for me) incapsulates both the innocence and the struggle of the brothers.
Masterpiece
This theme in the last episode was powerful.
One of the few smart shonens I've ever encountered.
anime music usually slaps so having another channel where you delve into it is an instant sub to me, FMAB OST is GOD tier (much like the anime itself)
ohh Marco and FMAB 2 of my favorite things, i highly recommend looking up Bratja from the original adaptation, and many other tracks from brotherhood(tho i would prefer until you are finished so you can listen freely of any chance of spoilers).
also really good video, love the track, and the reading of intentions in the track was on point!
Great video! I'd love to see you also react to Bratja (Brothers) from the 2003 FMA anime (with lyrics if possible since it is sung in Russian), I've been playing it on the piano since I first saw FMA it's my absolute favorite
FMAB is regarded as one of the best anime in the anime community ... Truly a Masterpiece!!!
And this OST is just so sad, but so good
used to be, it got taken over by frieren
@@Ghorda9 if another good anime comes it's doesn't decreases the value of old anime ... You should learn this statement
@@itz_rishik i misread part of your comment "..one of.." rather than "..the best"
It's Russian, but otherwise I agree.
Yeeeah. I don't know why it's in Russian either. Except that it sounds great.
This has to be one of the greatest pieces of music in anime, imo.
"Cordialement" from Magi is one of my favourite melancholic OSTs, hope you can check it out sometime
You're in for a lot of classical style music with FMA.
I would love to see you listen and breakdown the Bleach ost like treachery, escalon, nube negra, and soundscape to ardor
Full Metal Alchemist is one if not the best manga ever create... if not it TOP 5 at least. its was so good!
Please do "Lapis Philosophorum" from FMA: Brotherhood, amazing OST!
It's not my favorite anime (Even tho it's still in my top). But objectively, I still think it is in fact the best anime ever released. It's just perfect, there is nothing wrong to say about appart from subjective points (So tastes and colors basically).
man, i kinda wished you did trishs lullaby which is similar to this one but with vocals
I wanna be here for the "Berserk" day... Just want to see your perspective on the "Gut's Theme", you bring the most intrestings perspectives on music. Love your takes ♥ (give it a shot to Berserk)
FMA is considered one of the best Animes and mangas ever
Yeah I mean there IS a reason why Fullmetal Alchemist BROTHERHOOD is considered one of the best Shonen anime of all time
Three additional pieces you absolutely have to analyse:
* Nightfall in Central City and Nightfall in Central City ~Fin~, especially the duality between the two
* Trisha's Lullaby
* the Requiem (the full name is a spoiler, but you will know when you get to the relevant scene)
wondering about ghost in the shell with the timeless song " inner universe" or the recent songs from frieren, maybe even NANA songs.
Great content Marco. I would like to encourage you to hear/react to trisha lullaby, would love to see it from your perspective.
I think you should hear FMA OST Lapis Philosophorum. It has vocals in latin, would be amazing to have your take on it.
I think you would love Bratja/Brothers
From this.😊
By the way Trisha's lullaby is hauntingly beautiful.
I would suggest listening to it even on your own in your freetime!
My personal favorite is UNDO because eversince my parents and brother passed away, the song just hits me hard
And lets just say I understand the urge to do human transmutation
the only anime that had dethroned FMAB is Frieren beyond journeys end. Also a amazing show, it deserves to be up there, would recommend.
That's just my read as a long time fan of the series, not really as someone with a music background so it's just my POV as a casual listener.
i could totalllllllly see that too!
@@Marcoweebball I always envisioned the cello as Hohenheim and the Viola as Trisha. Singing a lullaby to little Ed and Al.
As an opera singer, you NEED to react to Over the Garden Wall.
Not only is now the perfect time of year for it, it actually has real opera singing in it!
Il y a aussi Lapis Philosophorum qui est une OST emblématique, peut-être l'avez vous déjà écouté ?
you should check out 2003 fullmetal alchemist too.
Brothers - Fullmetal Alchemist
Oooh shit, you little shit lmao. Bringing back emotions with this one.
This piece has a very "bittersweet" feeling to me, and reminds me a lot of "Merry Go Round of Life" from Howl's Moving Castle. Very beautiful, but very somber AT THE SAME TIME because you can't remember the good without the bad. Even more so when YOU were the reason why the "bad" is in the mix 🥺
PLEEEEEASE listen to the main theme from the 2003 FMA called "Brothers". It's one of the best main themes iv'e heard for any pierce of media
