My old orchestra teacher in middleschool told us she loves video games, not because she plays them, but because they help keep classical music composition profitable.
Worth noting that the song is also sung entirely in the Elder Scrolls universe's own dragon language. Really awesome and very in-line with Elder Scroll's impressive dedication to its universe and lore.
It's also a reference; the melody is the same rhythm as Neverar Rising (Morrowind's Theme) and somewhat similar to the Oblivion theme ua-cam.com/video/1s5c09rEbmo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/iLStdBTxAxs/v-deo.html

What you may not know is this music is played during dragon fights and the low rumble you hear as the theme song quiets down mimics the dragon's soul leaving it and going to the protagonist.Always thought that was a nice little touch. The dragon is dead, quiet returns.
Fun Fact: The entire music is sang in a language created by the creators of the game, this language is based on a mix of latin/english in kind of a "runic" format.
Skyrim especially leans on the importance of Shouts. Thematically the game is about the power of voice and magic in shouts or Thuum as they refer to it. Dragons don’t breath fire, ice and lightning. It is their Thuum that “cast” the magic. The vocal arrangements are meant to evoke the power in shouting. The language is canonical to the lore as well. …now do Halo.
@@Here_is_Waldo There is a really good mod called thunderchild, that adds a bunch of new shouts and ways to reduce there cooldowns and string together multiple shouts as "mantras"

As the main menu theme that plays every time you start the game, the first 10 to 30s of the song has likely been played and listened to tens of billions of times.
You should really compare this theme to the ones from Elder Scrolls III "Morrowind", and Elder Scrolls IV "Oblivion", because the underlying theme is the same, just arranged completely differently each time. Jeremy Soule really does a wonderful job switching things up.
@@DerEchteBold It's the brass section I believe. Sounds like trumpets, but that permeates all 3 soundtracks. It's a unifying sound that says Elder Scrolls to the faithful before any actual visuals are beheld. Their teaser trailers just need that trumpet sound and the crowd would lose their shit knowing ES6 was being shown lol. I love it from Oblivion personally, but I put over 1,200 hours into that game. Absolutely worth it
@@bwestacado9643 I played all three very intensely as well, couldn't say how much time I spent with Morrowind or Oblivion, could well be over 1000 hours. In Skyrim I have maybe close to 3000.
@@DerEchteBold Oh yeah it has to be easily over 1,000 per. Skyrim I'm just now getting into for the long haul. My life was a mess from 2011 until a couple years ago, but I'm playing it on the Switch and hoping to be a few hundred at least. I started with Morrowind back in 03, I honestly couldn't believe a PC rpg was being sold on a home console and I bought it not knowing anything about it. Fell hard for how fun that game was, but to me Oblivion was their mountaintop. It was beyond fun, the 1st game I got for my 360 (I bought the game 3 months before I got my console lmao and wore the spine of the booklet out before ever getting to play it) and basically played it until I couldn't stand it anymore. I think it was ruining my 600+ hour main playthrough with the duplication trick. My main house couldn't load anymore because I filled it so many Varla stones it instantly froze when trying to load it lmao. I took a long break after that
@@bwestacado9643 In Morrowind, the main melody is carried by lighter woodwind sounds like flutes and clarinets. In Oblivion, the main melody is carried by your smaller brass horns, like trumpets and backed up by a more traditional orchestra. In Skyrim it's vocals backed up by heavy drums and horns, with woodwinds in the far back, so to speak.
Man, the first time you fight a Dragon and this song starts, makes you feel like such a BADASS! Also the vocals are sang in "Dovahzul" (Dragon Language), which is a whole language they made for the game. The Elder Scrolls in general shine with their music! Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. There is real love, dedication and talent put into music in these games!
@@maeschder No language is ever "complete". There is for example a tribe in the Amazon that speaks a language where there is no concept of past or future, as well as no numbers- hard to wrap your head around if you are anyone but members of that tribe. The only language that could technically be considered "complete" is Sanskrit, but it has over 100 BILLION words thanks to peculiarities of its grammar and such- it's a VERY precise and nuanced language where you can describe practically everything, every concept you can think of, with a single, very precise word. Where Tolkien left off, other writers and the community picked up and today Quenya is a language you can have actual, meaningful conversations in. And Dovahzul has some quirks. It isn't exactly 1-1 "English with different words" though it is VERY much based on English for convenience. It isn't nearly as "finished" as Quenya or Dothraki, but the community works hard on making it so.
My first experience with Skyrim left me at level 5 and running desperately through the wilderness from a unscripted dragon, getting my butt kicked until I finally found a town and the guards killed it for me. There was no badass about it. xD At least until later in the game when I could finally lay waste to dragon kind....
@@MonkOfTheGunk I don't remember exacts like the first unscripted dragon I encountered, but I do remember that I got my ass handed to me. Same thing with the mammoths and giants. It was a long time before I could take on a giant and win, and when i first went after a mammoth, I didn't expect it to attack me back. Lost that fight rather quickly too.
Jeremy Soule is a phenomenal composer. I just wish he hadn't been dumb and gotten himself involved with scandals. Then maybe the Starfield OST would sound even better.
It's interesting that the song is both an orchestral telling of the story inside the game, and a in-universe contextual piece of lore. It is sung in a conlang created for the game, and it's really about you, the player, and your role as the Dovahkhiin. Born Hunter of Dragonkind, protector of Skyrim.
All these years. Countless times hearing it. And this music still gets my heart pounding and I'm right back in Skyrim. Between the soundtrack, and all the gobsmackingky amazing mods out there, I can't see me ever not playing this game.
I have like 57 mods thus far, and I cant honestly see me ever enjoying the actual base game if I were forced to go back it. It is so unwashed by comparison.
Do you remember the first time you saw the trailer? It came out my sophomore year of college and I could not have been more hyped. This was used as the backing song.
@@Crazy_Diamond_75 I actually came to this game late. Like, years late. But, now that I'm here, I'm staying! Seeing the original trailer for the first time would have been amazing!
@@ExcentricDragon I am the same way. I have 204 mods. That is probably the best thing about this game, next to the music. It can be whatever experience you want!
The beauty of it is the section from 6:45 to 7:07. That is actually the theme from Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, a previous entry in the series, and it is called "Nerevar Rising". Check it out some time.
Jeremy Soule has done amazing work for TES games for years. His music really helps give the games ambiance and beauty that they would lack without such wonderful music.
If you ever decide to do another Skyrim song, I highly recommend "From Past to Present"...easily my favorite song from the OST (and the Skyrim OST has many outstanding tracks).
Elder Scrolls addict here. I so love Jeremy Soule´s music for Elder Scrolls 3-5. Nice to find his music here in your ears :). Btw, this song is basically a "remix" of the title song from Morrowind, Elder Scrolls 3
The part where it opens up to at 6:45 is a callback to the main motif of the series. The motif was first introduced in the third entry game "Morrowind" in a track titled "Call of Magic" which is now just referred to as the games main theme, and has been iterated upon several times since in the overall Elder Scrolls franchise. It's a wonderful melodic motif, extremely fitting for a medieval fantasy open world setting where you're called to explore and adventure.
What I think is maybe strings and then brass sneak in a bit of this about 2:30 - 2:55 as well. I only recently realized this was a running theme with the series, despite having played them all on release! All of the plays on it are great, though I have a soft spot for Nerevar Rising / Call of Magic.
Dark Souls III main theme, NieR Automata "Vague Hope", Elden Ring main theme, DOOM Eternal "The only thing they fear is you". All are great tracks to check out!
I've always admired the brass/woodwind focus of The Elder Scrolls' composition. Wandering the wilderness with soft horns and flutes playing in the background while I collect flowers for hours on end. True bliss 😇
Frostpunk has wonderful music which evokes a feeling of doom, but also has that slight glimmer of hope to it. I recommend you listen to "The city must survive", it truly is a masterpiece in my opinion.
The music goes well with the trailer of the game. The trailer of the game is a piece of art. And music matches very well with what is going on and the introductory narration. Each change of moment in this sound track aligns with a wonderful new section of the trailer.
Skyrim and Oblivion (the predecessor) are 2 of the soundtracks, where you could give me any track and i'd recognize it in an instant. There are few video game soundtracks that are on such a level for me. Only Doom might come as close, since Mick Gordon is just insane. I'd love to see more OST reactions and i second the Divinity Original Sin 2 recommendation from another comment, that i saw :D
Put Republic Commando main theme in that list.. it is sung in mandoa the mandalorian language....and i would add Chaos Gate ost....it is in latin and is about space marines
Geebz, the Elder Scrolls series is incredible. Love the Morrowind theme. Felt like I heard a tiny bit of it within this song. Since you are doing another video game track, let me plug Nobuo Uematsu once again. His definitive work is his composing for the Final Fantasy RPG series. So many beautiful pieces have come from this man. Cant recommend him enough. Great video!
They do, adapted to the themes and ambients of their regions: Morrowind being the chill lonely island; Oblivion the glorious prosperous capital epic and honorable; Skyrim being the norse battle-centered viking region. Same song (or base for it, better) just different themes to work on with regarding to that song. There is somewhere in youtube a very nice video with the three songs one after the other and it's very nice to see and compare them.
I think they have a base undertone for the series because the Oblivion theme also sounds similar to Morrowind in certain bits. Like I said, I think the music foundation is the same
I started to love your reaction music from games like this. The music from Elder scrolls V Skyrim is soooo awesome it takes you like, in a medieval era of Skyrim, a fictional place. By the way, I subbed to your channel, 5 million of stars for you, bro 🇵🇷!
@@rpgeebzmusicarcade by the way this music was composed by Jeremy Soule which he used a MIDI keyboard in order to do the orchestration in Dragonborn. That track was sang in dragon language too.
Never thought I'd see you cover this one! Skyrim is a really fun game and the elder scrolls series of games always have excellent soundtracks. Nice one Geebz! 😎🤙
I can't recommend enough that you check out the music from Oblivion. Jeremy Soule's work on that game produced some of the most warm, hearth-y music ever. It fills you with this desire to look out over a rustic countryside sunset and return to a good book and a fireplace waiting inside your tiny mountain cabin.
The whole soundtrack is amazing. Hope you hear every track. Brings back so many great memories. Far Horizons may be my favorite. Final Fantasy VII is another classic IMO.
What I love about TES series' OSTs is how they use one theme throughout every new game as a base for their new main theme. This song (Dragonborn) is based on the original song (Nerevar Rising) from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowwind (as well as Reign of the Septims from TES IV: Oblivion). For seasonal gamers of the franchise, hearing those notes is like coming home. Or even better, coming to your safe place where dragons cross the skies and magic lights the night. It's a promise of adventure.
There is another score from Skyrim played by the Swedish Radio Symphonic Orchestra with song by Sabina Zweiacker live in concert! Gives me goosbumps every time I listen to it. You can find it here on the tube!
I think this theme is absolutely fantastic to listen to. I watched a video of an orchestra performing it once and there was something so powerful about it that I actually cried a little bit. Few songs can do that to me so, bravo Skyrim
I’ll never forget my first time booting up Skyrim. I hadn’t played a video game in 15 years, had some free time, and wanted a game that was fantasy/D&D-like. I brought home a PS4 and Skyrim. I remember the black intro on my large TV screen and the logo cloaked in billowing fog, and that magnificent theme playing. I was so intimidated, excited, I felt like I was about to step into another dimension. I stood there in awe in front of the TV while the song played, feeling like as soon as I started the game a Viking mounted on a dragon would appear there in my living room.
Outstanding to see you find this genre - after 43yrs of gaming (as a 46yr old Aussie) I’ve heard many many awesome soundtracks. I listen to OST ambient music daily - perfect background music/noise to be ubér productive to. 👌🏼 Should you continue down this path of OST’s, you’ll find it’s a deep dive of quality. 🤙🏼👍🏻🇦🇺
something youll find interesting: In this song, the lyrics are in a language made up for this game. The lyrics rhyme in both the way we hear it and when it is translated.
First of all, love this breakdown, and your transparency about your monetization. Secondly, I love your comments on how present the choral elements are in this piece. A big part of the game is your character's voice, including voice specific shouting spells. So I would say the vocal elements being so forward and powerful was probably intentional, and I never thought about that till now. Thank you for that!
Never heard of this guy before but within the first 30 seconds I already like him as he knows the importance of video games and how they're just like other forms of entertainment but more interactive. Most adults, my parents especially, don't realise how valuable they are as stories and masterpieces.
Currently replaying Skyrim, for the umpteenth time and still get chills from this song, amazing, love the video. You can't be analyzing video game OSTs without doing Bloodborne, one of the greatest games ever made and the soundtrack is amazing, every single song is perfection and a regular listen for me!
Nobuo Uematsu has composed some of the most iconic video game music in the Final Fantasy series. Some of his biggest standouts are “One Winged Angel” from FFVII, “Dancing Mad” from FFVI, and “To Zanarkand” from FFX
I think the fact that the emphasis is on the vocals is very fitting, considering that one of the main game mechanics is the Thu’um, which is basically shouting words in the dragon language to give you special abilities. The words they’re singing are even in that language, and there’s a full translation of the song online I believe. It’s a nice touch!
This whole soundtrack is absolutely AMAZING. This is the only song that is prominently vocals, and the ending goes right into the next track. If you want a visual, just imagine vikings fighting dragons in the snow 😁
Self-taught, if I recall correctly. Think of that - all that from someone who taught himself music and how instruments sound when melded together. I wish I could have a tenth as much talent to apply to my writing.
Dark Souls has some amazing orchestrated stuff. My personal Favorite is Gwin Lord Of Cinder Theme from Dark Souls 1 which is a hauntingly beautiful piano piece, but I don't know a lot of the rest of the Soundtrack, so I'll let the real fans suggest more.
This videogame is just magic to play, and a big part of that is it's soundtrack. It's atmospheric at all times, and epic, stressful, or whatever it needs to be while playing
Thank you for your input! Jeremy Soule might be my favorite video game composer and composer in general. The soundscapes he breathes live into with his music is so mesmerizing. Definetely recommending you more of his work on the Elder Scrolls and Guild Wars series and many more like Neverwinter Nights and Secret of Evermore.
Oh man, when the big official trailer for this game came out and it played the last half of this theme with shots of the world and the gameplay, I knew I was going to play it. And I had never played an Elder Scrolls game before. Well, Skyrim didn't turn out as amazing as I hoped, but I still remember watching that trailer many times. There's a lot of good video game music that I've experienced. You should look at some stuff from Metroid Prime, possibly my favorite game of all time. The themes for the major areas are all pretty short. Might be fun for you to listen to a few and try to guess what the area of the world is like based on the feel of the music.
What's cool about the production of these games is that Bethesda always works on the score first before anything else in order to get the feel of the game
Being an Elder Scrolls fan from the beginning (the first game; Arena), when I first heard this song before Skyrim came out, it actually brought tears to my eyes, because of the reference to Morrowind at 6:45. Skyrim OST is one of my favorites in my music collection.
Bloodborne - The First Hunter Also it's kinda funny you mention the vocals being very prominent in the mix, as your character's special ability in the game is to literally shout at enemies with various different effects, and the power of The Voice has a lot of significance to the lore, so I wonder if they did that intentionally.
Don't know if anyone posted this, but while the lyrics are in Dovahzul (the dragon language in the game), there's actually a translation. Dragonborn , Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn, To keep evil forever at bay! And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout, Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!
Hearken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago, And the tale, boldly told, of the one! Who was kin to both wyrm, and the races of man, With a power to rival the sun!
And the voice, he did wield, on that glorious field, When great Tamriel shuddered with war! Mighty Thu'um, like a blade, cut through enemies all, As the Dragonborn issued his roar!
And the Scrolls have foretold, of black wings in the cold, That when brothers wage war come unfurled! Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound, With a hunger to swallow the world!
But a day, shall arise, when the dark dragon's lies, Will be silenced forever and then! Fair Skyrim will be free from foul Alduin's maw! Dragonborn be the savior of men!
Dragonborn, Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn, To keep evil forever at bay! And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout, Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray! (I'm not responsible for this translation, BTW) This is basically a prophecy framing the conflict of the game, with the playable character being the Dragonborn, and the main antagonist being Alduin. Really enjoyed your reaction - this song is definitely iconic for Skyrim! Would like to see you do some OSTs from Monster Hunter (Zinogre Theme or Mizutsune Theme from Rise are good options) or the main theme for ARK: Survival Evolved are all themes I think you'd enjoy. Thanks!
New to the channel! I don't know if anyone already wrote this but the protagonist in Skyrim uses his voice to shout magic ("Thu'um", for the nerds). It's dragon language. So the OST is on point in that regard :) Edit: lol Now I see half of the comments are about this. I'll just leave it up cause its funny
The beautiful thing about this song is that the vocals are in the Dovah (dragon) language, but is supposed to also works when translated to English. Bethesda tried to make sure that anything that was sung in Dovah should still work and make sense in English.
If you ever decide to travel to Skyrim you will never come back. And you will listen to many beautiful songs throughout your journey. They will be connected to your adventures in Skyrim forever.
There is some information I could share about this number. It’s said that the world of the Elder Scrolls is itself a song. The percussion, the drums, that’s the heart of Shor. His heart is the heart of the world. And is called Doom Drum. A bloody warrior god. The hero god of mortals. The chorus? That’s written in Dovahzul. Which was the language created for this game. It’s the language of dragons. And is meant to translate perfectly in to English and tells the story of Skyrim. These are the English lyrics: Dragonborn, Dragonborn by his honor is sworn To keep evil forever at bay! And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout, Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray! Hearken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago and the tale, boldly told, of the one! Who was kin to both wyrm and the races of man with a power to rival the sun And the Scrolls have foretold of black wings in the cold, that when brothers wage war come unfurled! Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound, with a hunger to swallow the world! But a day, shall arise, when the dark dragon's lies, will be silenced forever and then! Fair Skyrim will be free from foul Alduin's maw! Dragonborn, Dragonborn by his honor is sworn To keep evil forever at bay! And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout, Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!
This song is sung in dovahzul, dragon tongue, a language they created for this game. Also, it's about how the character you create when you play this game, is the dragonborn, the hero of legend who is supposed to put a stop to Alduin, the game's main antagonist, from trying to dominate all of the races of men and elves and beastfolk and how the dragonborn will win.
Skyrim has some excellent tracks, but I would recommend the main theme from the 3rd game in this series Morrowind. It still gives me chicken skin after 20+ years. Cheers man
I love the different words people have for this! Grew up calling it goose bumps but I've heard chicken skin a few times online and even goose pimples. Anyway, I agree! There really is something about the Morrowind theme that gets me every time.
You really should check out the trailer for this game. The theme melody is in it i think you would get a lot more out of it if you watched the trailer with it.
It doesn't matter how many times I hear this theme, or how long of an interval it is between each listen. I will smile from ear to ear remembering good moments of my life playing this game and will continue to do so till the end. This game is among the few that can do that to most! This theme hypes me up like crazy!

found your channel around 4am and have watched several videos already. Youre simpler break down of the ost is super helpful to someone like me who loves music but doesnt know to much about how the composer thinks and are able to derive the emotions the do. Cant wait to see more
After I bought Skyrim and spent so many countless hours in that world, the soundtrack for that game was simply amazing. That's when I learned that the same composer who did Skyrim, Jeremy Soule - did the OST for a game which I played back in 1997 called Total Annihilation. And that OST really stands out simply because he used a live orchestra.
Fun fact, the music for this game was completed before development started on the game. The staff built the game while listening to the soundtrack. It shows, what a Mastetpiece.
Wow, I didn't know that, that's actually really impressive that he had it all done before development. It seems like composers often need references the same way animators do, and I'm surprised the soundtrack came together so cohesively. It's also just a beautiful, beautiful score. As much as I love the main theme I don't think it's that representative of how contemplative and ethereal the full soundtrack can be. Anyway, I've always thought Jeremy Soule was a genius, but this was still a really impressive bit of information.
Just discovered your channel. You are the best "reaction to music" creator I have seen so far. All the others interrupt to often to comment, but you listen for a looooong time before you make a comment. Much more relaxing to listen to. Skyrim is my favourite game and I play it a lot but I have never heard this piece without the game being on and for me it was a very emotional experience. The last few bars were almost funereal, which fits in with the Nord characters in Skyrim, as one characters says: "You know what's wrong with Skyrim these days? Everyone is obsessed with death" You should give the game a go. It's a fantastic game! If you get hooked, you could also make modding videos! Best wishes to you
I think those "syncopated" voices you're hearing are tuples behind a 6/8 time signature. For more VG OST - look into any of the work by Darrin Korb. All of his work with Supergiant Games is magnificent.
Love your breakdown, as a brass player from way back (1st chair Trombone) I, too, love those brass rips and am glad you recognized that :D The game is amazing and it's never too late to get into it. I'd def recommend you check out the Skyrim trailer videos (there's a live action one, and an ingame footage one), will give some more context, but yeah, the Song of the Dragonborn is a very Viking inspired theme. They lyrics are in the Dragon language, Dov, which is used ingame to learn the dragon's power of Shouting (pseudo-magic evoked by combinations of Dov words) that only the Dragonborn can use without extensive lifelong study. There are translations on the internet as well, it's badass.
The, i guess you'd call it a motif or tune?, of the song is one that's grandfathered in across several games, starting at morrowind, then oblivion, and then this version for skyrim
highly recommend listening to more of the soundtrack, specifically "far horizons" and "from past to present" or even watching the 10th anniversary performance from the london symphony orchestra. just watching those people play the music is so moving and beautiful. i think you'd really like the rest of the soundtrack. please do a video exploring those other songs!
The last of us has a nice acoustic guitar ost by Gustavo Santaolalla and one similar to Skyrim with a male choir and orchestra is God of war 2018 by Bear McCreary. Sorry if this posts twice as the first comment seemed to get stuck
My old orchestra teacher in middleschool told us she loves video games, not because she plays them, but because they help keep classical music composition profitable.

There weren't "countless shameless re-releases." Skyrim has been released twice, 3 if you don't own Special Edition somehow. Please stop reposting stupid bullshit someone on /r/gaming said and use your brain.
Bolt. Speak.

Same. The first time I saw the original trailer with this score in the background was blazed into my memory.
Since i was an Oblivion player I was so excited I can't even put it into words
I had a program on my phone that was literally just a Skyrim release countdown.
All the hilarious memes helps too.
This is one of the only songs that'll give me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. Maybe it's time for another Skyrim session.

What you may not know is this music is played during dragon fights and the low rumble you hear as the theme song quiets down mimics the dragon's soul leaving it and going to the protagonist.Always thought that was a nice little touch. The dragon is dead, quiet returns.
One They Fear is one of the songs played during dragon fights and Watch the Skies it played.
@@cobracommander6522 i believe it can be either
@@cobracommander6522 the one they fear isn't played when you fight a dragon.

Fun Fact: The entire music is sang in a language created by the creators of the game, this language is based on a mix of latin/english in kind of a "runic" format.
Yep, Emil Pagliarulo created the language and wrote the lyrics for the main theme.

As the main menu theme that plays every time you start the game, the first 10 to 30s of the song has likely been played and listened to tens of billions of times.
Yup. Never gets old
I love hearing it
You should really compare this theme to the ones from Elder Scrolls III "Morrowind", and Elder Scrolls IV "Oblivion", because the underlying theme is the same, just arranged completely differently each time. Jeremy Soule really does a wonderful job switching things up.
I knew about that but can't really see it, I absolutely love the Morrowind theme but don't like the others much.
@@DerEchteBold It's the brass section I believe. Sounds like trumpets, but that permeates all 3 soundtracks. It's a unifying sound that says Elder Scrolls to the faithful before any actual visuals are beheld. I played all three very intensely as well, couldn't say how much time I spent with Morrowind or Oblivion, could well be over 1000 hours.

Well they made some words, not a full language. Not even Tolkien finished his languages himself.
There was no badass about it. xD
At least until later in the game when I could finally lay waste to dragon kind....

TES have some top tier OST
Jeremy Soule is a phenomenal composer. I just wish he hadn't been dumb and gotten himself involved with scandals. Then maybe the Starfield OST would sound even better.
Honestly, the entire Elder Scrolls sountrack is amazing.
The choir I was in in college did this song once. We even brought drums and brass for an accompaniment. Nothing compares to being part of it live!
How awesome!

It's a remix of both Morrowind and Oblivion themes.
Parts of this theme is also In the oblivion main menu theme. This them has kinda become the elder scrolls series theme
I second all of these but most of all the Dark souls III main theme. I love that piece and it sets the tone for the game very very well

I'm like that with the Morrowind theme.
Technically there are a few tracks that see use in all three games.
Most of the iconic music in Skyrim and Oblivion were initially composed for the the predecessor to both, Morrowind. This opening theme for example.
Put Republic Commando main theme in that list.. it is sung in mandoa the mandalorian language....and i would add Chaos Gate ost....it is in latin and is about space marines
Add Elder Scrolls Online as well. Equally as good and iconic.
3:20 "Are ya feeling it now, Mr. Krabs?"

Great video!
when I first heard itI was thinking, "Ahhh teh elderscrolls theme with words to it hehe.
Morrowind, oblivion and Skyrim all have the same theme just different interpretations of it. Based only of my hearing.
Morrowind's soundtrack is just Built Different...
I think they have a base undertone for the series because the Oblivion theme also sounds similar to Morrowind in certain bits. Like I said, I think the music foundation is the same

I would LOVE to see Geebz react to that!
I think this theme is absolutely fantastic to listen to. I watched a video of an orchestra performing it once and there was something so powerful about it that I actually cried a little bit. Few songs can do that to me so, bravo Skyrim
"Dovakin!" Makes me want to play. Nice pick Geebz. :)

Should you continue down this path of OST’s, you’ll find it’s a deep dive of quality. 🤙🏼👍🏻🇦🇺
something youll find interesting: In this song, the lyrics are in a language made up for this game. The lyrics rhyme in both the way we hear it and when it is translated.
I used to be a composer, then I took drum stick to the knee...

This song still manages to bring out so many emotions out of me to the brink of tears. Such a timeless theme.
Final Fantasy 7 has some of my favorite music regardless of genre and form of media. The Japanese composer was phenomenal
Self-taught, if I recall correctly. Think of that - all that from someone who taught himself music and how instruments sound when melded together. I wish I could have a tenth as much talent to apply to my writing.
It still gives me chills... Such an EPIC overall game.
My favorite song from them is the Amygdala theme from Bloodborne, which has one of the best soundtracks in gaming for me.
Slave knight Gael from dark souls 3 is my favorite
Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne always stuck out to me.
I think the Soul of Cinder track in Dark Souls 3 even tops it, especially when the piano from the Gwyn fight comes in
Living Failures or Ludwig the Holy Blade are top tier
This videogame is just magic to play, and a big part of that is it's soundtrack. It's atmospheric at all times, and epic, stressful, or whatever it needs to be while playing
Agreed. It’s a once in a lifetime game. Jeremy Soule has made this soundtrack timeless.
it takes a special talent to make music that can loop endlessly and you don't get tired of it

You definitely gotta do more Skyrim music! So many amazing songs in that game. From Past to Present is one of my favorites.
Skyrim theme song makes me emotional every time. Love the Elder Scrolls OSTs.
4:15 Well... the Dragonborn's special ability is in fact his shouts. Now it makes more sence for me as well.
Bloodborne - The First Hunter
Also it's kinda funny you mention the vocals being very prominent in the mix, as your character's special ability in the game is to literally shout at enemies with various different effects, and the power of The Voice has a lot of significance to the lore, so I wonder if they did that intentionally.
Thanks!
Don't know if anyone posted this, but while the lyrics are in Dovahzul (the dragon language in the game), there's actually a translation.
Dragonborn , Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn,
To keep evil forever at bay!
And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout,
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!
Hearken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago,
And the tale, boldly told, of the one!
Who was kin to both wyrm, and the races of man,
With a power to rival the sun!
And the voice, he did wield, on that glorious field,
When great Tamriel shuddered with war!
Mighty Thu'um, like a blade, cut through enemies all,
As the Dragonborn issued his roar!
And the Scrolls have foretold, of black wings in the cold,
That when brothers wage war come unfurled!
Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound,
With a hunger to swallow the world!
But a day, shall arise, when the dark dragon's lies,
Will be silenced forever and then!
Fair Skyrim will be free from foul Alduin's maw!
Dragonborn be the savior of men!
Dragonborn, Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn,
To keep evil forever at bay!
And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout,

This is basically a prophecy framing the conflict of the game, with the playable character being the Dragonborn, and the main antagonist being Alduin.
Thanks!
Jeremy Soule made all his older work on samplers and they sound really good for what they are too. Morrowind soundtrack is really good.

New to the channel! I don't know if anyone already wrote this but the protagonist in Skyrim uses his voice to shout magic ("Thu'um", for the nerds). It's dragon language. So the OST is on point in that regard :)
Edit: lol Now I see half of the comments are about this. I'll just leave it up cause its funny
Man hearing this again brought genuine tears to my eyes. The adventures I had in this game get perfectly reflected by this song :)
came to see an old composer. saw an experienced one.
These are the English lyrics:
Dragonborn, Dragonborn

And the fiercest foes rout
when they hear triumph's shout,
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!
Hearken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago

Who was kin to both wyrm
and the races of man
with a power to rival the sun
And the Scrolls have foretold
of black wings in the cold,
that when brothers wage war come unfurled!
Alduin, Bane of Kings,
ancient shadow unbound,
with a hunger to swallow the world!
But a day, shall arise,
when the dark dragon's lies,
will be silenced forever and then!
Fair Skyrim will be free from foul Alduin's maw!
Dragonborn, Dragonborn
by his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay!
And the fiercest foes rout
when they hear triumph's shout,
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!
Same. When I go inside the Ghost Wall and the dust blinds me, the music is always there.
You really should check out the trailer for this game. The theme melody is in it i think you would get a lot more out of it if you watched the trailer with it.
this entire game soundtrack is incredible. "From Past To Present, Secunda, Ancient Stones, Far Horizons, etc etc. Masterful!
It doesn't matter how many times I hear this theme, or how long of an interval it is between each listen. I will smile from ear to ear remembering good moments of my life playing this game and will continue to do so till the end. This game is among the few that can do that to most! This theme hypes me up like crazy!
Games and animes have some of the most awesome and beautiful compositions that blend in unique ways with the scenes/feelings/emotions/messages...
Aizen's theme Treachery is the only one I listen to in rotation. I love it
@@bwestacado9643 getting ready for the upcoming episodes? 😁
@@Spitx Haha oh yeah I'm so excited to watch TYBW. Been so many years since we got new Bleach and this will be refreshing as hell to watch. Next month dude
@@bwestacado9643 quite some new seasons and animes worth watch next months 😁
this is actually modern nords (the race that sings the song) interpretation of their ancestors rendition. you hear how it supposed to sound when you go into the after life and hear them sing it
One of the most legendary and best game soundtracks ever created
Ok now I need to replay Skyrim for the undred times :-D What a great memory when I heard this OST, thank you for your video.
Oh damn! If you’re doing video game OST, then you HAVE to listen to some stuff from my favorite gaming OST’s of all time: the Silent Hill games.
And, of course, The Last Of Us.
For a huge curveball, you should also check out the stuff Incubus did for Halo 2 (yes, THAT incubus). Cheers! 🤙🏻
Hell yes to anything Silent Hill! So far I've only played the first 3 (I have the rest and plan on playing them all soon), and the music is possibly my favorite part of the series. Akira Yamaoka is definitely one of my favorite video game composers
found your channel around 4am and have watched several videos already. Youre simpler break down of the ost is super helpful to someone like me who loves music but doesnt know to much about how the composer thinks and are able to derive the emotions the do. Cant wait to see more
This has been covered so many times, it's actually weird hearing the original. Malukah's cover is what I think of when I think of this song.
@@Crazy_Diamond_75 I absolutely get lost listening to the 10th Anniversary Concert, it sounds so good live.

Best wishes to you
This song is why every time I play Skyrim, I end up just sitting at the main menu for 20-30 minutes before I load my save 😂
Gives me goose bumps every time i hear this even all these years later , every single time . awesome 🤘
I think those "syncopated" voices you're hearing are tuples behind a 6/8 time signature.
For more VG OST - look into any of the work by Darrin Korb. All of his work with Supergiant Games is magnificent.
The lyrics are in dovahzul, dragon language its a genius way to connect the world and the music
A great video game that many of us love : )
Love your breakdown, as a brass player from way back (1st chair Trombone) I, too, love those brass rips and am glad you recognized that :D
The game is amazing and it's never too late to get into it.
