I’m confident in saying that Made in Abyss has one of the best soundtracks in all of anime. Takeshi Saito’s voice is literally unbelievable, especially in VOH. There’s actually a lot of opera in Made in Abyss, with like Old Stories and Transcendence & Caradhina. Also the lyrics are actually a language from the anime, used by the people in the abyss, so it’s very interesting. Really glad you seem to be enjoying the anime music.
Reading the synapse of the story before featuring anything from it is a thing, maybe a comment suggesting it explained it and he read the whole thing "by accident". And it's not exactly a miracle to just guess that 2 characters together climbing and it doesn't look brutal - something about a journey of these 2 together. I'd understand "guiding" if there was any, instead there's only wild goose chase, they both don't know when or where they're going to find her mother, or reg his origin, but they keep going deeper, without much guidance, so if you payed attention - he didn't guess correctly, story is full of lack of guidance, kids are just trying to survive in a world where going 10 meters up is going to either make your head spin or brutally mutilate you depending on height you're on. You're just letting him put words in your mouth at this point.
@@alpha-tomahawk532 Bro, you have some issues. Of course it was possible that he read the synopsis or even watched the show beforehand. In the same way that it is possible that he really didn´t know anything about it. There is no way for me to know for sure and I don´t really care. That is why I chose sarcasm and called it wizardry, aka something that is not real from my point of view. Also, if Reg is not guiding Riko, her mother is definitely doing it, since because of her, Riko knows exactly where to go, to the bottom of the abyss. @@geraldthegoose1685Honestly, I'd put Sawano lower. His tracks are awesome, don't get me wrong, but they feel very samey, even across different albums.
For context: it is a fake language, meant to connect to the in universe reality of how the culture these characters come from are a long forgotten culture that only now exists in the Abyss.
A term I have recently learned applies here; ConLang. Short for Constructed Language, a language intentionally created for a specific purpose. Usually found in context of fantasy and other fictional writing as the language of a group that does not exist in reality.
But the language is highly based on Icelandic language, and they kinda made that canon. So Kevin Penkin said the Icelandic band Sigur Rós is why he wanted to do a made up language since that's what they do (said language is obviously based from Icelandic.) The crazy part is the gravity uses an actual Icelandic singer and that song is used to introduce us to the voyagers in the past. Which when you think about it is genuinely crazy world building.
I am so glad it finally happened! Kevin Penkin is such a amazing composer. I hope Marco checks out his other work. I highly recommend listening to his other amazing stuff from Made in Abyss like: The First Layer, Pathway, Tomorrow, Transcendance and Hanezeve, Rumble of Scientific Triumph, Old Stories, VOH, Juroimoh Mutation. And these are only the most popular tracks. I think the entire Made in Abyss OST deserves attention.
You definitely need to listen VOH, Tozo Hanoline, Gravity, Old stories and Transcendence if you liked this. (Literally all of Kevin Penkin and Made in Abyss because it is a masterpiece)
Yep. This song wasn`t even supposed to be a theme of the show, it was meant to be one time insert song, yeh the scene in 1st episode when this song plays is exactly the moment what everyone was like "wow, i'm watching this 100%!". What is also funny is that Kevin Penkin was intending this song for a different scene, instead of episode 1. It was the director I believe that Made the decision to use it in the first episode. Swings and Roundabouts was originally intended to play there.

This may seem like a fun little anime about adventuring, but this is some of the most gruesome, gut wrenching and psychologically taxing media I have ever been exposed to.
For real. I decided to drop the manga a long times ago, not because of bad quality or something but because it was just too taxing and gruesome to continue reading. But I still hear the music often, because its beauty is undeniable and I like hearing beautiful music 😅.

What I love about the made in abyss ost is that the composer. Kevin Penkin, is able to capture the world of made in abyss as it is both beautiful yet haunting
I'd recommend VOH, Transcendence and Hanezeve or Old Stories if you want to react to more of Kevin's stuff. I also think Prushka Sequence is really underrated. They're in English too, not the made-up abyss language.
YEAAHHHHHHH!!! Ok, now that thats out of my system, please check out Trancendence and Hanezeve, it is a piece that plays much later (this one is at the end of E1, Transcendence is played halfway through the 3rd movie, basically Season 1.5), and as the name implies has a piece of Hanezeve Caradahina altered and used in the second half of the song, which has a completely different feeling to it. Also the usage is important because This one is played while things are still happy over a sunrise scene, a Dawn, and transcendence lets just say _has to do_ with a character who has the title “Sovereign of Dawn”, and also another who’s name literally translates to “flower of dawn.”
I love how the music and your interpretation captured the show really well. A robot boy and a girl walk into this dangerous but exciting adventure finding the most sorrowful and beautiful things along the way. One thing that I really liked was you talking about how "exposed" part of it feels. It's very likely to evoke the idea of diving into this huge hole that is the Abyss itself. MiA is one of the series that I just have to give props to for the sound quality and osts. It gave me one of the best experiences anime could’ve given to me, something that a manga simply cannot do for me
Made in Abyss has such a beautiful OST. Like, just about every time I hear it's music pop up, it takes me completely out of whatever I'm doing and steals all my attention until it finishes.

Oh boy, anything Kevin Penkin has a hand in is amazing. One of my favorite composers. Excited for you getting to experience their music for the first time.
This is such a beautiful song, and hearing you hit upon the themes of the show so acutely, the themes of discovery, incompleteness, danger, the descent into madness, makes me appreciate it all the more. Whole soundtrack really is gorgeous, but I really appreciate the composer naming one track after a fandom meme, "The Rumble of Scientific Triumph." Better yet, said track is one of the greatest. Y'know, hearing some of your thoughts on this song, and particularly the vocalization, makes me really interested to hear your thoughts on the song Red:birthmark
Kevin Penkin is one of the greatest anime composers. Such a great library of tracks to listen to, I hope you listen to Juroimoh Mutation, its my favorite
Made in abyss is such an incredible show, not at the liking of everybody but the music is the best i know of, particularly VOH and tozo hanoline. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ So glad that you discover this world.😊
Kevin Penkin is one of my favorite anime composers. He always know what to do with motives, simple tones, rhythm. Hope you some day say your thoughts about Old Stories from 2nd season of made in abyss
Yeees. I can die in peace now. I don't think I can over-hype Kevins compositions. His music does incredible things. You can close your eyes and whole worlds unfold. Also: a master of counterpoint, not unlike Bach.
Very awesome video as always! I would love to see you react to Old Stories from season 2 of Made in Abyss. It's one of my favourite pieces of music in general.
Absolutely recommend VOH or "Old Stories" from Season 2 as both were genuinely wonderful pieces that I'd constantly replay clips just to hear certain parts. Secondarily from the movie, I recommend "Rumble of Scientific Triumph" which has the funniest lil story behind it having been a translation note for the SFX. Genuinely Made in Abyss has an amazing OST that I am excited to hopefully see more reactions for as it's always a treat seeing someone's first impression of Kevin Penkin's works. And if you get the chance, recommend another show he was brought on to do the music for being Wolf and Spice.
8:25 You can't be more spot on, for me this entire piece along others is an ode to adventure 0:16 Someday you will slowly wake up and decide to see the beauty of our world 1:57 That day will mark the beginning of your journey, you'll see wonders and sing for them 2:22 You will take that first step followed by countless others. They'll bring you to the end of the world, maybe companions will tag along 4:59 You will face adversity, be afraid, clueless as to what to do next 6:24 But you will fight back, by any means necessary. 6:35 Maybe It'll be pointless, maybe the road stop there for you 6:39 There you will find growth that you would have never found elsewhere 7:44 That's where you'll get your epiphany, you'll find yourself 8:48 And the world will shine more than ever before, treasure and wonders at your feet 9:35 But every journey has an end, yours is no different. Strangely you don't feel lost anymore and ready to accept your fate. Afterall, your journey brought you right back "Home". To think that this is just one of the song of this anime is mindblowing to me. Thank you for checking it out.
Easily one of my favorite anime songs, specially because of the places it takes your mind to while listening to it. If you are interested, the singer posted a "cover" of the song, where he sings it with his guitar.
My favourite track definitely is The former child of ido front, such an underrated track but everytime I hear it I can't but cry, it has a very profound and very heavy meaning behind.
There's a lot of comments recommending/requesting other pieces from Made in Abyss such as 'VOH' (ft. Takeshi Saito again), 'Old Stories', 'Transcendence and Hanazeve'. Well, here's one more comment. We need those! Also, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try Juroimoh Mutation (but I would say that's a bit experimental). Others I would also recommend (maybe to just listen on your own) are 'Prushka Sequence', 'Tomorrow', 'Belaf's Lullaby', 'To the Abyss', 'The Rumble of Scientific Triumph', 'SAN-KEN (The Three SAGES)', 'reBirth' (ft. Takeshi Saito), 'Tozo Hanoline' (ft. Uyanga Bold), 'Remembering Home', 'The First Layer', 'Pathway'. Yeah, it's my favourite anime OST, how could you tell?
Kevin Penkin's Made in Abyss soundtrack is unmatched in quality, impact and emotional catharsis. Seems like a perfect fit for your channel. I'm subscribing in the hope that you will listen to a lot more Made in Abyss soundtrack!
As Kevin himself would say it's biblically good For another recommendation from Made in Abyss GRAVITY from season 2 is a must. I genuinely think it is Kevin Penkin's Magnum Opus,. It is incredible and one of the best tracks from an OST I've heard, period.

Man, this anime was... an experience. It took a bit to get into it, and then THAT episode hits you like a freight train. All accentuated with an absolutely amazing OST, and then from then on it keeps piling on more and more. Hey Marco, I had left a comment on one of your previous videos asking you to react to this so I'm glad to see it happen so soon! Thanks for another great video, I'm glad you enjoyed the song, Kevin Penkin really did a fantastic job on this one!
so happy u reacted to this and hope u continue listening to Kevin Penkin music he is a really good composer , u should also check old stories one of his best works
Holy shit you have no idea how hyped I am for Made in Abyss reactions, its my favourite anime :3
So many of the songs from Made in Abyss are absolutely amazing! I highly recommend checking out more of them (examples: VOH, Old Stories, Transcendence and Hanezeve).
I'm so happy that you listened to Made in Abyss now I've got to recommend (Transcendence and Hanezeve) or (The Rumble of Scientific Triumph) from Made in Abyss Dawn of The Deep Soul. Now you're stuck in the rabbit whole of Made in Abyss's music because all of the OSTs from the entirety of the series is just simply beautiful all of it
3:50 It feels like an embrace almost or like being held
Like a hug goodbye
Made in abyss has my favorite ost ever (especially the movies)😭
MiA is one of the series that I just have to give props to for the sound quality and osts. It gave me one of the best experiences anime could’ve given to me, something that a manga simply cannot do for me
Made in Abyss has such a beautiful OST. Like, just about every time I hear it's music pop up, it takes me completely out of whatever I'm doing and steals all my attention until it finishes.
Loved the breakdown and video Marco, always happy to get a new notification from either of your channels and I hope you check out more from the MiA OST
Made in abyss has my favorites ost of all time. So glad you listed to this. You need to listen to Voh and old stories. They will blow your mind. I also did recommend this in Gurren lagann video so it make me happy to see you react to made in abyss.
great reaction, you ABSOLUTELY have to react to VOH. theres so much more going on in this soundtrack, dont let this be the last one you do on this series!
Man... you gotta just go watch this show already! haha
Love your interactions with this soundtrack. These are awe inspiring songs
"Hunter x Hunter - Theme of Kage & RASETSU" would be right up your alley and an amazing reaction
So glad that you discover this world.😊
Please do old stories from made in abyss aswell! Loving your new videos😊
Omg, I've been waiting for you to react to this for so long!
please keep going with made in abyss music, some of the best i have found in a while
Hell yeah. Best anime, best composer and best piece of music he created for this anime (in my personal opinion).
8:25 You can't be more spot on, for me this entire piece along others is an ode to adventure
0:16 Someday you will slowly wake up and decide to see the beauty of our world
1:57 That day will mark the beginning of your journey, you'll see wonders and sing for them
2:22 You will take that first step followed by countless others. They'll bring you to the end of the world, maybe companions will tag along
4:59 You will face adversity, be afraid, clueless as to what to do next
6:24 But you will fight back, by any means necessary.
6:35 Maybe It'll be pointless, maybe the road stop there for you
6:39 There you will find growth that you would have never found elsewhere
7:44 That's where you'll get your epiphany, you'll find yourself
8:48 And the world will shine more than ever before, treasure and wonders at your feet
9:35 But every journey has an end, yours is no different.
"Old Stories" is my favorite. It hits me every time
My favourite track definitely is The former child of ido front, such an underrated track but everytime I hear it I can't but cry, it has a very profound and very heavy meaning behind.
Thanks for the video. The soundtrack by Kevin Penkin is a real masterpiece. I wish the series would get more attention.
Yeah, it's my favourite anime OST, how could you tell?
i am a currently depressed (going through a break up yayyyyy) made in abyss fan, thanks for contributing to helping make it a little better
May your heart heal well. 🙏
Gorgeous show, gorgeous track, ty for analysing it, I hope you check out more from MiA!
Voh from MiA is particularly fitting for Takeshi's vocal range
One my my favorite pieces of music ever.
Kevin Penkin's Made in Abyss soundtrack is unmatched in quality, impact and emotional catharsis.
Seems like a perfect fit for your channel.
I'm subscribing in the hope that you will listen to a lot more Made in Abyss soundtrack!
im so happy right now, cant wait for the rest
Awesome to see you react to this! I'm a big Kevin Penkin fan so I'm biased, but I would love to see you react to more of his work in the future!
Every time I see a rising sun, I think of this song, because of the anime and the reveal in the first episode.
As Kevin himself would say
it's biblically good
For another recommendation from Made in Abyss GRAVITY from season 2 is a must.
I genuinely think it is Kevin Penkin's Magnum Opus,. It is incredible and one of the best tracks from an OST I've heard, period.
Marco, you should definitely check out "this is the dream" from the final evangelion movie, truly a work of art!
definitely recommend VOH if you want more Made in Abyss! the entire made in abyss OST is incredible tbh haha
I just listened to this earlier and thought of you and this channel, I swear you have listened to it before on a stream but regardless if you have or not it's a great soundtrack so a video on it is very welcome.
Man, this anime was... an experience. It took a bit to get into it, and then THAT episode hits you like a freight train. All accentuated with an absolutely amazing OST, and then from then on it keeps piling on more and more.
For me, it's a 10/10, great for recommending it to people and then wanting for them to go "hey what the absolute FUCK" after they get to that part and then laughing as they get hooked.
