I learned like 2 days ago that grandes don’t _replace_ an intercessor’s bolt gun. At first I didn’t use grenades, then I’d use 1 grenade and 4 bolters. I’m very excited to now be using 5 bolters _and_ a grenade.
I actually miss the era when grenades negated penalty for charging into cover because your guys could use them to flush the enemy out of their hidey holes. That was a cool image every time.
It's honestly such a great tip. Haven't played in ages (the grey pile is kicking my ass) but I watch a lot of Play on Tabletop. Anytime one of them uses grenade it always seems so clutch. So as a viewer it surprises me to hear people don't use it as much
The long story short is Heroic Intervention is mostly useful if your intervening unit has Fights First. Defenders always Fight First this edition if both them and the attacker have it. To elaborate: there are two phases of combat now. Fights First and Fights Normal. In both phases, the player whose turn is NOT taking place, selects a unit first. So if the active (charging) player has units who have charged, they Fight First, which would mean they fight before your units that only Fight Normally. But if you have a unit with Fights First in engagement range too, your Fights First unit as the defender will activate before their charging one does.
In my blood angels army, I have been taking 5 Assault Intersessors with Jump pack with a Chaplain. With Blood Angle's Sons of Sanguinius melee buff, they already do pretty good damage, but they also pack a horrible mortal wound punch. On average, the Assault Intersessors will do 3 MWs on the charge, the Chaplain will do 1 or 2, and the Grenades will do 3. I can of course spike, but I wouldn't ever expect to do more then like 10 MWs, but I can at least do like 6. While I can't kill something wild strong, but it can pretty consistently kill smaller vehicles and monsters, or just eat into the wounds of some Terminator brick.
I effin' LOVE this strat! Particularly useful when 4 marines of my 5 marine unit are dead. One lone marine, chucks a freekin' bandoleer of grenades at an opponent! The Tank Shock strat is called the Bum Rush strat when a walker uses it!
Tank shock is so effing good. I killed a low-wound Lord of Change with a Brigand via Tank Shock. I was unlikely to kill it in combat, but with the aid of Tank Shock I had a high chance of getting it done.
As a knight player, one of my worst turns this edition was guard grenading a knight for 5 wounds, then ursula giving a second squad grenades too for 5 more. On the other hand Tank Shock is practically always 6mw from a knight
i played a 500 point friendly tournament and ran my blood angels, my smash captain with vanguard veterans all had storm shields so i had no shooting, but i made excellent use out of the grenade strategem
I can listen to you talk about anything PK. My husband is a big warhammer40k/fantasy guy so I try to at least know enough to talk to him. I have an army for AOS but I never have any time to play!
@@pkswarroom it’s certainly been easier for me as a relative outsider to grok compared to 40k. I really struggled to learn it. To be fair this is back when we were still in a long distance relationship and we played on a virtual tabletop called Vassel. I might do better now if I tried again. I’ve never played a game like this in my life so I was very overwhelmed by 40k in general.
This stratagem is why Death Guard Biologus Putrifiers got nerfed in the recent slate. People were honestly bringing three and firing free grenades three times for 0 CP. Now they can only do it once each turn until every BP has used it.
I just finished a game with my White Scars, my thunderstrike storm speeders left a land raider on 2 wounds and my assualt intecessors got 3 mortal wounds on it and finished it off
@pkswarroom actually no, I didn't see it until just after the game. It was a few days ago when I was looking to see what happened to grenades and saw that that's actually a really strong strategem. I just thought it was funny seeing this video in my recommendations after using the strategem
Kroot Carnivores are a prime unit to use the Grenade strat. They are cheap, fast (7" move and 7" Scout Move) and have garbage shooting. Doing 3 MW and then charging in to tie up a unit worth 2-3 times the points is awesome
They should really give Fully Automatic Plasma Grenade Launchers to the Tau and Eldar. Considering they mounted fragstorms on every bloody Space Marine...
Grenade is very useful because this stratagem is not considerate like a shoot. Against reactive shoot trick like or reductive range of Lone Operative properties like the Vanguard invasion stratagem with Lictor. You want to reduce your Lone Operative range at 6" for your Death Leaper ? The Grenade does'nt care. You can possibly destroy more easely a Death Company Dreadnougth with 3 Chaos Bikes who's wearing 2 melta before he shoot back This is very powerful.
@pkswarroom I believe you. I just am thrown off by the wording where it states you cannot use the same stratagem more than once in the same phase. It dose no mention about subsequent phases on different turns, nor does it distinguish between phases on my turn vs my opponent's turn. Could you help clarify?
Just watch out for getting too clever with grenades tho -> i potentially lost my 5-0 game, cause i could see 1 wraithguard with my redeemer but really wanted them dead, so it grenaded them first.... killed the one i could see.....ye..
I mostly just follow lore but have watched some batreps. Spending cp on grenades sounds weird to me. It's a cool bit of game design space. Like forcing you to exile a spell in mtg lets them make it more powerful.
Both Kabalites and Wyches can get the Grenades keyword from their squad leaders by equipping them with Phantasm Grenade Launchers, which is now free so there's no reason not to.
It's nice playing Tyranids and not needing to remember core stratagems because most of your units can't use them
A video on screening would rock!

@@Kingofdragons117 I’ve only ever played 10th edition. I just misunderstood the data sheet
Warhammer Wednesday in the war room... all is right with the world.
Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one throwing grenades. Excellent scalpel stratagem.

gretchen dont have nades unless theyre next to da red gobbo
The actual brain hurty strat this edition is heroic intervention. Its genuinely hard to asses when its worth popping
Imo half of the generic stratagems are comically situational.

This exact thing happened to me last night!
It’s raining grenades from now on! Great video… Just subscribed and look forward to more.
Cheers
Thanks for the sub!
Yeah this strat rocks and I use it pretty frequently
That was fantastic! Thanks for the insight!
Grenade is litterally the most common strat used in almost every competitive game ive seen....
If you say so, Captain Contrary.

Yay, more Warhammer pk content!
I'd love to see a video about screening! I'd love more nuts and bolts concept videos like that going over some 'basics'
I would like a video on screening, or positioning in general since it's something I struggle with.
As a knight player, one of my worst turns this edition was guard grenading a knight for 5 wounds, then ursula giving a second squad grenades too for 5 more. On the other hand Tank Shock is practically always 6mw from a knight
Ursala can only give free strats to Battle Tactic ones. Grenades is a Wargear strat. Your opponent was cheating.
My toxic trait is forgetting every universal strat not named command reroll

Just turned a bad day in a good one! :D
3:18 you could also fallback and throw a grenade, rules as written
Only if eligible to shoot - as in, has the ability to fall back and shoot. Rules as written.
Name of the program in the vid?

I always forget my grenades.... and always regret it😂
Hopefully this video changes that.
Shaxx would be proud.
AS YOU WISH. I WILL ONLY PLAY THIS FROM NOW ON.
can you just one shot the knight with a vortex grenade?
No grandpa. You can't.
I rolled 12 (2nades) vs Custodes last weekend resulting in 0 MW.
Lord Shaxx approves of this strategy.
As Tau each CP not used for Overwatch means that I'm not Overwatch lmao
As a Tyranid player I dont get access to this.
But with rules as written , it means you can only use the grenade strategem once per battle.
What? Why?
No. Not even remotely close.
@pkswarroom I believe you. I just am thrown off by the wording where it states you cannot use the same stratagem more than once in the same phase.

Grenades: 3 mortal wounds
C'tan: saves all 3 FnP rolls
Sigh
Don't play 40k, but I'll try to toss a granade in AoS from you anyways.
