Wut? I love Sabbath, but this is not a good song for Bill Ward. That solo section was some of his sloppiest drumming. Tempo wavered throughout and he needed the band to find the 1 for him. I always joke that he'd smoked too much sweet leaf before recording this song. If you want to talk Bill Ward, then you should use War Pigs for an example, not this one.
@@robertmanning6785 to be fair; the point of that section was to go crazy and rock out. That he certainly did with reckless abandon. The problem with that is a natural tendency to rush the tempo and jam as many notes in as possible. He mostly held it together while Tony was wailing on the guitar, but when the drum breaks came he spazzed out. LOL. I'm not saying he's a bad drummer. I wouldn't rank him top 5, but you certainly can according to your taste. No doubt Sabbath as a group were pioneers that inspired countless musicians. True legends. While I don't rank Bill high on my list of drummers, I will say that what he did was a good fit for Sabbath's style...which is the important thing here.
@Jack Lanam Bill's work is the perfect fit, in keeping with the spirit of the track, highly innovative and full of heavy creative and natural feel and to top it he swings like a bastard. There is no "problem", and the feel and free spirit of Sabbath cannot be bettered with 'correct' tempo or some beige notion like that. Current wholesale pop tracks are produced like this and we all know how lifeless they turn out
I got ahold of this album left by my uncle Dan back in the Philippines in the early 70s. I’ve never heard of this group till then. I played it and when the coughing started, my dad yelled, “you alright out there!?” I’m mid 50s now and this song brings me back to that moment. My Dad and Uncle has since passed. I miss them both. Funny how music takes you back. Uncle Dan was a Vietnam Vet, an influencer of my military service. Thanks for posting. It’s wonderful to see that you share commonalities in music. God Bless
Tony Iommi, the guitarist and genius behind the music of the band, an excellent bass player and drummer, and a young and creative Ozzy Osbourne. Awesome stuff! Great reaction!
Kel was in Schock the first 2 minutes of the song. 🤭 I've enjoyed and loved this from 1 of my earliest albums at age 11 in 1971. Another iconic song from this era is IRON BUTTERFLY LIVE IN A GADDA DA VIDA
Havent heard this track for years it took me back to my school days listening to this at breaktime with my school mates..just loved the clean smooth metal guitar work and the rolling bass on this track.the way the time is slow but seams to go faster on the beat.thanks guys.🎧👍
The thing I love about Ozzy’s voice is how he is a melodic screamer. Most singers don’t have any expression when they start belching it out. SHAAARRON!!!!!! 😁💚
Please please please do SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH!!! A lot of the great things about this song are in it! ABSOLUTELY HUGE GUITAR RIFF IN THIS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE!!! GOD Bless!!!
Gosh you guys still have so many great Ozzy era sabbath songs, you haven’t even covered half of them 😱 I wish I could rehear all the Black Sabbath songs off the first six albums for the first time again. Mind blowing instrumentation and very deep lyrics on top of Ozzy’s unique vocal signature. Best band of all time.
That sound of Masters of Reality is just like FOOD. It fills you up and you need more of it. It is perfect in every way. I've only heard that sort of sonic deliciousness a few times after that, and that is from early Candlemass, Sleep, and Testament's The Legacy. Just this meaty heavy food for your soul.
Saw them in 1978 when they had Van Halen as support. Three years ago they were selling a T shirt of that world tour. In perspective it is like a group today being remembered and cared about in the year 2060!!
If you ever react to Children of the Grave off this album, you should do it with the combination of Embryo as the intro to Children of the Grave. They are meant to be listened together.
Now you need to go and listen to the "Speak if the Devil live album and hear Ozzy singing the same Sabbath songs with Rudy Sarzo on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums and Brad Gillis on guitar!
One of my all time favorite songs and albums. This is the third album, this is the album where Toni Iommi first downtunes his guitar to C# tuning for a heavier sound.
You should check out "Children of the Grave" by Black Sabbath. It is probably more relevant today than it was back then. Also, you should do some more Ozzy with Randy Rhoads like, "Flying High Again" or "You Can't Kill Rock N' Roll" or "Suicide Solution". I know I am not supposed to request here, but I am. Sorry about that.
Master Of Reality is the third album by Black Sabbath released in 1971 and it s my favorite album i love this song in particular love Tony coughing at the beginning
Rich, I'm SHOCKED that you didn't know this song! Oh man, all of us in high school loved this song (all us partiers anyway!), and that was almost 40 years ago!
I like your channel! Very entertaining... Sabbath is a unique band that forever changed rock and roll, transforming it into metal, doom, almost indescribable music. The four musicians, Ward, Butler, Iommi, and Osbourne were perfection! I was at their show with two buddies on Aug 19, 1980, Chicago's International Amphitheater (long since torn down). Sabbath blew the roof off, helped by some hits of mickey mouse window pane (lsd). And, the opening band was Van Halen!! A night I still remember like yesterday. Black Sabbath, the timeless one and only.
Guys, if you have a turntable, find this album on vinyl and play it beginning-to-end (with headphones). It sounds completely different than on cd or on the pc. You are welcome. :)
One of my favorites of theirs for sure! Would love to hear you all go through the whole Paranoid record, though I know that's too much too ask (and not the right place!)
From the best album they ever made: a real musical laboratory. Best sound too of all their albums. You must try "after forever", a song with the most christian message but with a threatening tone towards the end.
Great song loved seeing em live in 70s brought back wonderful memories,Kel you talked about playing the Cello please check out 2 Cello's with Steve Vai enjoy yourself...
so...what kind of music do you two enjoy? Just recently I've been transfixed by the folk/celtic music of Blackmore's Night. Check out "Shadows Of The Moon".
HAHAHA 3:38 I clicked for CC, YT sent me a different tab, I'm on my PC, the CC there showed: "Let's get to it. Let's see what this the song does for a sweet leaf. Okay, probably something to do with the marriage you wanna oh, absolutely". Congrats on your marriage to sweet leaf!!!
The accidental addition of the string scrapes adds another level of coolness to the song. These probably would have been removed if this had been recorded in the digital age.
If you dig Sabbath (who doesn't, right?), there are a TON of newer bands in the same stoner/doom vein. Electric Wizard, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, High N Heavy, 1000 Mods. I know I would love to see you react to any of those bands, I'm sure you'd find them enjoyable.
Hey, Kel, is Pinkie that Fender headstock i see sticking up? like Fender too but if you want to feel the Sabbath power i highly recommend a Gibson SG. Seriously, after I got my SG I can say it is a powerful feeling belting out licks on that beast. jus sayin. cheers
Fun fact ;) The very beginning of the song is a loop of Tony Iommi actually coughing on a joint. How does anyone not enjoy this song!
It actually was actually a bong hit that caused him to start coughing, not a joint. There is a video floating around that Iommi himself said that...
It was definitely a joint that Tony and Ozzy were smoking. It's been well documented by both of those guys
@@jonlate4581 Insert "Why Not Both?" meme here.
This song is the epitome of the original Sabbath.
After hearing you guys play Sweet leaf I just realized that Bill Ward is one of the best rock drummers ever!
damn straight that's ya boy gettin down

Let me assure you: "Fairies wear boots!" is AMAZING!
Greetings from the far north of Germany!
And you gotta believe it!
One of my favorite Black Sabbath songs, glad you got to it.

I was 16 in 1970 I light up ever time we put this album on I was stoned for 3yrs over that album my youth God I have great memories thanks people.
This song....the National Anthem of my youth! Oh the memories!
One of my favorite Black Sabbath tunes. Love the beginning 🤠👍🏻
You need to listen to the entire album it is a masterpiece from front to back
especially the contrast between the heavy sounds and the light sounds like"Solitude"
Tony Iommi, the guitarist and genius behind the music of the band, an excellent bass player and drummer, and a young and creative Ozzy Osbourne. Awesome stuff! Great reaction!
You wouldn't believe the amount of weed I cleaned on this album cover back in the 80's
That is too funny it er so did I,lol
Can we get War Pigs 1970 Paris. If nothing else to see those drums beaten by Bill Ward .
Warpurgis
Amor odio Amor Agreed!
Third...sure you know this by now...my fav album by my fav band throughout high school...MOR is a permanent imprint on my brain...
saw these live back in the 70's in london where i'm from ........awsome!!
OMG - A TIME IN LIFE LIKE NO OTHER

After forever - Black sabbath
Children of the Grave and Into the Void should be the next two songs from Master of Reality. Both completely epic songs (redundant, I know 😁)
Totally agree.
the master of reality album is the ultimate collection of heavy riffs.
Love how Kel is hooked from the get-go!
Love y'all
I was 16 yrs. old when this album came out. My girlfriends and I loved it! Vietnam era!!!!
So glad to hear this back in the 70's during my teenage years! H I'm having that 70's Flashback!
Tony Iommi is my favourite guitarist ever....not bad for someone who chopped the tips of two of his fingers off is he? 👍
You are the first reactors I've heard play this song. Great tune, Thanks
I didn't get this song till I listened to it high.
Tim Starkes 🤔😂
The thing I love about Ozzy’s voice is how he is a melodic screamer. Most singers don’t have any expression when they start belching it out. SHAAARRON!!!!!! 😁💚
Greatest ode to weed ever written!
The world will love you sweet leaf... what an understatement
Iommi's sound on guitar comes from rubber tips on some of his fingers lost in a metal working accident :)

I’ll bet the guys in Sabbath are amused so many people are shocked in 2023 by a record they released in the early 70s.
Master of Reality
Band stuck mojo did a version of sweet leaf. So did sacred reich
Ah yes, the favorite song of me and my friends back when we smoked the sweet leaf.
I think I feel exactly the same way.
The Wizard by Black Sabbath . It opens this album (if memory serves me). You won't regret it.
Sorry Mitch the wizard was on their debut album!
Still. Good song. Must listen. 😀
@@Deathbird_Mitch your right of course great album especially title track & NIB!

I don't. Can't stand the smell. Like stale urine on grass.
'Hole in the Sky' would be cool, too. Love these early Sabbath albums.
