the best thing about geezer's bass is that he knows when to go hard and when to lighten up. he's not mindlessly thrashing away on the lowest string the entire time, he plays low at the beginning of the intro riff, then plays an octave higher for the rest. then the riff at 1:13 comes in and he goes HARD with the bass, and it kicks in so heavy. these guys were insane
Love the bass and drums intro - long intro! And the deep, thoughtful lyrics are making a statement that's just as relevant now as it was back in '71 - maybe even more so! And I agree - if we were to go set up a new colony on a new planet, we'd only take all the religious, political, and cultural triggers for conflict with us, and make exactly the same mess of our new society, and our new planet, as we'd tried to escape....
Did you notice how Gezer was playing guitar riffs along with Tony , and do bass lines and play off of Bill. I don't know any other bass player that does all that.
I just found this channel, and you guys are great! My favorite Sabbath song! The story in the lyrics are some of my favorite. Freedom fighters venture into space to find a new home because we've destroyed earth with pollution and war. The message to take care of our planet is still relevant since Sabbath recorded this in 1971.
Sabbath fan since 1972, and it was Geezer who inspired me to learn to play bass in the mid 70s. I got to play a lot of Sabbath songs in cover bands over the years which was a blast. Glad you finally got to discover this awesome. Band.
My favorite band of all time. Lots of knowledge in the lyrics . You gotta wonder they were 18 yrs old when Black Sabbath was made . Where in the world did they get this stuff from.
Another great reaction!!!! I'm not sure if anyone has commented this in any other Sabbath reaction, but when the record company put out their debut self titled album back in 69/70 the record company put an upside down crucifix in the inner album artwork and the band had NO IDEA!!!!! That stupid move from the record company caused people, including actual occultists, to believe the band members were into the occult and satanism and all that crap. But it was NEVER the idea of the band nor did they approve of it and they worked hard to shake that reputation off of them!!!
"A National Acrobat" is a good one too. In the early years Tony Iommi had his guitar tuned down a step and a half to C# due to the pain caused by pushing on the strings with his injured fingers. That's what gives them that doomy sound,,,combined with a lot of creative musical talent. Before they started making lighter guitar strings he even used banjo strings due to them being lighter he said in an interview I watched. The story of how he cut off his fingers is interesting as well. Same day he was going to quit his metal shop job and turn professional guitarist but it all worked out well in the end.
One of the only groups that you can listen to the first 6 albums straight through without skipping a song. Maybe 1 (FX). The greatest band in Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal history. Perhaps even just Rock. One other thing. Their first 4 albums came out in 2 years and are the blueprint for every metal genre there is.
on Same album you really need to listen to Solitude a master piece soliloquy you wont believe what you hear😊then follow it up with Laguna Sunrise from the Vol. 4 album
Another excellent Sabbath tune. You guys definitely appreciate them. Love your reactions. You should definitely listen to Symptom of the Universe by Black Sabbath. I think you would like it and be surprised at the styles of music it evokes. One of their best IMHO. Cheers!
Thanks for the review. This is Sabbath's 3rd release, another flawless album. You can pretty much choose anything else from this album and be satisfied. But if you would like an unexpected surprise, then check out Solitude. It will prove how versatile this band really is.
I saw Black Sabbath on their final tour in Omaha NE, and they played this song. You wanna talk about h e a v y. My god. I seen Motorhead and I thought they were loud. Tony Iommi's sound opened up a black hole over Omaha that night. Checked that off my bucket list. There will never be another Black Sabbath. If you liked Black Sabbath Doom, you'll like bands like Cathedral, and Candlemass. Candlemass - The Well Of Souls, Samarithan, Black Dwarf Cathedral - Midnight Mountain, Ride, Grim Luxuria
From the same album, please react to Children Of The Grave 🙏 Fun Fact: Master Of Reality songs was all tuned down to make the guitar and bass sound deeper and heavier than ever, which created a whole genre! ( Edit: All of that just in 1971, which is insane! )
Hey Coach, before y'all get much deeper in the Master of Reality album, you really do need to hear "Warning". It is kind of long but it's worth it, it's like several songs in one. You won't regret it. It is a cover song but they make it their own. Thanks guys Coleman.
Sound Garden did a cover of this amazing song switching the lyrics out in exchange for a poem written by Chief Seattle. Same message. Thanks for another great episode
Black Sabbath was originally called "Earth"...there was another band in the UK called Earth that played more 60s pop rock music and they were often hired thinking they were the pop band. So they set out to rename themselves. The movie theater across from where they practiced was airing the Boris Karloff pic "Black Sabbath". Geezer Butler said to the band "Let's call ourselves Black Sabbath, I'm sure no one has that name". Into The Void is another "warning" song...about war, pollution, the state of the planet....and that we need to find another place if this continues because we will destroy it. Another funny side note..This the first Sabbath Album where Geezer and Tony purposely down tuned their instruments to get a heavier sound...and also relive stress on Tony's fingers. Geezer laughingly commented, "the more we seemed to play lower, the more Ozzy's voice got higher".
This album "Master of Reality" was released in 1971 and it was their 3rd album. Their debut album was released in 1970, amazing right! Now their 2nd album "Paranoid" was also released in 1970. I'm amazed you haven't reacted to "Ironman" off the 2nd album or "Hand of Doom" also from the 2nd album. If you have and I missed it please forgive me but if you haven't it's a must. I saw Black Sabbath in concert my first time in 1971 and I've been a fan ever since. I saw them again in 1974 at the original California Jam, there is some decent video on UA-cam, not great but worth watching.
We haven't done those yet, although we certainly want to listen to all their early stuff. Amazing how they cranked out the albums in the beginning so fast.
Not Bad is it ? written 50 years ago and they might as well be talking about today. 👍👍👍love the look on your face Coach when TONY breaks into the solo bits at end ,its just nasty 👍, I still strongly urge ( no begging or beseeching today) to give 'The Warning" a whirl 🥰
I really like the journey the 2 of you are on ! Music is a wonderful expression of the times. I've had the pleasure of seeing Sabbath 8 times and they have never disappointed me, if you like Tony's guitar you 2 should listen to a song called " Dirty Women" the guitar solo is one of his best ! Keep up the good work, I'm really enjoying your content !
I started watching the channel recently, but I'm very surprised that you started listening to Black Sabbath and still haven't reacted to the song 'Iron Man' which was released on the group’s second studio LP, Paranoid, in 1970, this song has become one of Black Sabbath’s signature songs.
This is my favorite song from Sabbath, at least during the Ozzy years, because it was so much fun to play live. It didn’t matter if I was on guitar or bass, it was a blast. “Supernaut” is another favorite of mine from the Ozzy years. There’s a Japanese band called Ningen Isu who has a song that always reminds me of this song. Isu’s song is called “Heartless Scat” and it’s one most reactors get to eventually. I heartily recommend it if you haven’t heard it yet. Normally I’d search your channel to check, but I’m on my phone and it’s a bit awkward to do so.
Ozzy said “Rocket wuhptupittipuh, what the fuck? I can’t sing this!” he eventually pulled it off and he’s done it more than 300 times since in concert. -Tony Iommi Crazy how many great riffs they can put in a single song. Amazing groove as well. What I really like about this one is how hopeful it is despite the heaviness. I’d recommend “Iron Man” next. Peace and happiness in every day ✌️
This song I think had to do with nuclear war and mans folly. It might be hard for the younger generations who didn't have to 'duck and cover' at school or weren't shown where the fallout shelters were to understand that era where nuclear proliferation was a real fear.
I'm the biggest Black Sabbath fan of all times, nobody loves them or listens to them on my level. This album Master Of Reality is somehow the 2nd highest rated Black Sabbath album almost anywhere you look. This album is not good. It has five real tracks, it hardly has any guitar solos, the bass is the only good aspect of this album. Ozzy his vocals they aren't even good, and Bill Ward, his drumming is so below average. Those are all factual points. You have to be drugged out of your mind to enjoy this album. It doesn't take to many brain cells to see this album doesn't have the quality of songs, vocals, guitars and drums as the other albums. Before Ozzy left the 7th and 8th albums are totally different and still have way better songs then Master Of Reality. I'm sure you'll listen to Black Sabbath without Ozzy but I won't be watching those reactions. Listening to Black Sabbath without Ozzy is total blasphemy. Ronnie James Dio has plenty of other good bands that he was in but listening to him in Sabbath is wrong. The band minus Ozzy is the same but it sounds nothing like Black Sabbath. I'm not blind I can see Mrs Coach was not as blown away by this like songs from other way better albums. Into the Void is the closing track and it's one of the only good songs from this overrated album. You said everyone was on top of their game? What sections? Not on this album. Geezer Butler his bass and song writing are the only good parts on this album.
We appreciate this take on it but music is art and art is subjective. Coach really liked this one. The sound of the instruments were deep and mean. We respect that art doesn't speak to every person the same. That's actually a good thing.
Hand of Doom 🔥🔥🔥
I grew up in a house of country...at about 8 yrs old in heard this coming out of my older cousins room and I've been metal ever since. 🤘😎🤘
This is how Doom Metal was created.
the best thing about geezer's bass is that he knows when to go hard and when to lighten up. he's not mindlessly thrashing away on the lowest string the entire time, he plays low at the beginning of the intro riff, then plays an octave higher for the rest. then the riff at 1:13 comes in and he goes HARD with the bass, and it kicks in so heavy. these guys were insane
My favorite band in the whole, wide world.
Good tune... I think Symptom of the Universe is right up there with this one near the top of the list of Sabbath
Good call...also, the opening riff in "You Won't Change Me", which I never seem to see mentioned but is DOOM AS FUCK :D
What a flawed creature we are...
My favorite Sabbath album of all times. Geezer crushes it on this track.
Geezer tears EVERY track up.
I was way into Sabbath in the 70’s. They were very misunderstood
the guitarist tuned lower cause he lost some of his fingertips when he worked in a factory...he melted plastic to make fingertips
Nobody can slam on the handbrake like Black Sabbath. And thanks for the love for Bill, what he is doing here is so much harder than it first sounds.
Did you notice how Gezer was playing guitar riffs along with Tony , and do bass lines and play off of Bill. I don't know any other bass player that does all that.
Are you American??
I just found this channel, and you guys are great! My favorite Sabbath song! The story in the lyrics are some of my favorite.

Black Sabbath - a national acrobat
BLACK SABBATH IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST BAND TO EVER EXIST

We heard our entire life to stay away from this band and I'm assuming it was for that reason. But wow, were the people who told us that wrong!
@@CoachCastTV Same here. My family was deceived back then into thinking Ozzy was satanic. Later on my Mom LOVED the Osbournes reality show LOL

Got to see Sabbath at Hampton Roads Virginia in 78 opening act was a small upcoming group called Van Halen
Wow! That would have been epic!
I used to listen to this song everyday before work.
It is a GREAT before work song.
Recently I enjoyed a movie called "Voyagers", made in 2021. The story line of the film is exactly what this song is about. Highly recommended.
We've seen it advertised but haven't watched it yet.

i second for Solitude
Totally intense Sabbath number. Love the dark sound and lyrics. Definitely one for cranking up LOUD! 😎👍
