Oh this is a psp game? Ok that makes sense. Annoying, but it makes sense. I enjoyed the story to 3 a lot and this seems like the sequel to that so I was looking forward to watching it. Ah well. thanks for the info. :)
For it not being a Kojima Productions game, the story's pretty well done, even if it's a bonus. I can Definitely tell it's canon since it all fits Too well. The game play looked wonky and horrible, so luckily that wasn't shown much. They should of at least shown the cut scenes in the Legacy or HD collections to at least see a little bit on how Naked Snake becomes Big Boss and how Foxhound was formed, and his reason to building MSF. I really enjoyed watching this~ Can't wait 'till MGSV! ( Elisa telling Snake his son will save the world and Gene naming his 'world' "Army's Heaven" gave me goosebumps, though. )
If you look closely at the map in Portable Ops showing where San Hieronimo is, and the map in Peace Walker showing where Barranquilla Coast is, you can make you that Barranquilla in Peace Walker is technically a local place inside San Hieronimo, which explains why Kaz says the (in)famous line "leaving all that crap at San Hieronimo behind". Peace Walker literally starts where Portable Ops ends, making a fine transition between Naked Snake and Big Boss, and destroying any theory of Portable Ops not being canon.
This was the first MG game I played. I intentionally avoided them because I tend to only like FPS games. But the guy at the local GameStop ( and an old fogie gamer like myself) said it was the only thing worth playing on the PSP. But also swore I would love it. If not, he would personally give me my money back. I played it. I LOVED IT! Now I am trying to collect and play the whole series. MSG2 totally blows my mind. Rather eerie in hindsight considering it was written pre 2001 (which it would have had to have been with a release date of 2001) and set in 2007 - 2009. Down right scary to me.
+Guts He did not know that the goal was to eliminate the boss. He thought they changed the plan after Volgin launched nuke, but politicians hoped Volgin would use those nukes, so they could kill boss.
Watched this to get the story after completing mgs 3. Was amazing. I didn’t know some were saying it wasn’t cannon but golly it seems like it falls into place to me. I played the mgs series as a kid but never understood anything but now as an adult it is so interesting. The line by Elisa foretelling of the solid and liquids future was goosebump city.
I think this is David Hayter's best voice acting in the Metal Gear series. He's just superb in this. That scream at 1:18:59 just gives me chills every time
I haven't played this game ever since it first came out. Really loved it. Can't see anyone but Miller when that first random soldier joined Snake's squad. How this lovely saga has evolved, that's true devotion to your work.
I'm 30 minutes in and I'd say I've already gotten more enjoyment from the plot, setting and characters than in my dozens of hours in The Phantom Pain. Thanks for your playing and editing work, Kefka.
Thank you very much for the "movie" i just dident wanna spend 10 dollars for a game i knew i wouldnt like to play, not huge stealth fan, but truly love the story from metal gear solid. So thank you again for filling up the hole I had in the series
daAmazin FatB0y that doesn't mean it's a bad game. I think it's important as it explains why Big Boss left The Patriots and it leads up to the events of Peace Walker.
Phoenix Tunes From what i hear, its not THAT important. It can be summed up in one sentence. Its a game that tells yo how Big Boss recovered the Legacy and used it as funds for MSF. Peace walker barely acknowledges it too lol Kaz just goes "Finally, we can leave all that crap in San Hieronymo behind" and if he did obtain the legacy then it does not explain how they barely have any money left and are living in some random shack. Maybe PO was good but Kojima doesn't seem to see it as canon and imo, if the original creator doesn't acknowledge it then it ain't worth investing into.
phenomenal I played portable ops when it was released a good many years ago it's still very amazing from the plot to the dialog and voice acting also music it's all badass
That motivational speach at 23:53 remainds me of Scolar Visari from Killzone: "Ten years ago I asked for time and that time was granted by you, YOU, the strenght in my arms, the holders of my dreams. Defenders of the Helgast dream, NOW IS OUR TIME!".
That scene, when he's saying "then you must be Big Boss!" is fun and touching to imagine that it really is Kaz. That he started out as almost a fanboy that was Snake's first capture.
Tormented Zeus I know, lol. I've played MG since the MGS1 came out so I don't need to (including the original MG games). I was just replying to your ''But he dies in 2001 Liquid kills him'' comment. That comment was just kinda out of place. I knew you were talking about Kaz btw.
+COMBINEdotCOM Because people can't handle if the canon doesn't fits as perfectly as a puzzle piece?Personally I think it's canon just for the whole thing being about the first operation by the Patriots to assume control of the Philosopher's Legacy and establishing who some of the founding members are. All this before MGS4 confirms it all.
I remember playing this on the PSP since 2009 this was my first metal gear game before peacewalker and this has a lot of good boss fights like metal gear, python, null, gene, cunningham, there is so much to name

1:18:30 I remember watching this part and wondering what significance this soldier had to us. It just seemed like a throwaway cutscene moment until you finally check your soldier roster..it made me sad. He was the first one we recruited. RIP Jonathan. 😢

If you've never played this game, but you've been playing peace walker, be prepared to be completely disappointed in the controls.
Thank you so much for this series, I wanted to experience the Metal Gear story but watching gameplays can be kinda boring, and this is what I was looking for
My heart goes out to that one rebel soldier who was betrayed by his country. It's like he was played like a DAMN FIDDLE.
Wish this game had full cutscenes and actual dialogue instead of text. Nice video though.
***** It would have been too hard for the PSP system to handle
Oh this is a psp game? Ok that makes sense. Annoying, but it makes sense. I enjoyed the story to 3 a lot and this seems like the sequel to that so I was looking forward to watching it. Ah well. thanks for the info. :)
If you are interested, another PSP game, MGS Peace Walker, is sequel to this one.
Sweet.
Metatron Peace Walker did it.
This game's story is really moving and powerful there is nothing quite like the metal gear series.
0 dislikes, the way to go! Awesome job man! Really appreciate your work!
( Elisa telling Snake his son will save the world and Gene naming his 'world' "Army's Heaven" gave me goosebumps, though. )
his reason to build MSF is pretty clear by the last conversations w/ Gene and the last scene at the airstrip.
I wish this game was part of the mgs hd remake
1beatcher or MGS The legacy collection! I would be awesome wouldn’t it!
I love this game but haven't been able to play it in years. Thanks for putting this together.
Watching this before busting open MGS Collection to play Peace Walker for first time :D Hopefully I'll finish in time for Ground Zeroes.
This was the game that introduced me to the Metal Gear series and I've been a fan since then.
You did a splendid job on this! Really caught me up with the story.
'Shooting a soldier when his guard is down isnt really my style' -Big Boss
Ocelot is gay for The Big Boss
who isn't tho
I'm not because I'm a hetero female :-P
Kimmy Queen your probably gay for him
3li L0rd You are late to the party everyone went home and you clearly missed the joke.
Kimmy Queen wanted to see what you would say
This was the first MG game I played. I intentionally avoided them because I tend to only like FPS games. But the guy at the local GameStop ( and an old fogie gamer like myself) said it was the only thing worth playing on the PSP. But also swore I would love it. If not, he would personally give me my money back. I played it. I LOVED IT! Now I am trying to collect and play the whole series. MSG2 totally blows my mind. Rather eerie in hindsight considering it was written pre 2001 (which it would have had to have been with a release date of 2001) and set in 2007 - 2009. Down right scary to me.
MGS3 was my favorite. The story was just...incredible. And the gameplay's a step up too.
wait... snake forgot that the thing with the boss was a setup? EVA literally told him all about it on the recording at the end of snake eater.
+Guts He did not know that the goal was to eliminate the boss. He thought they changed the plan after Volgin launched nuke, but politicians hoped Volgin would use those nukes, so they could kill boss.
+Alejandro Knoxville Also, Volgin launched the Davy Crockett during the Virtuous Mission, NOT during Operation Snake Eater
***** Yet it was referenced in mgs 4 with eva and snake.
***** It went something along the lines "cia feared boss so they elimanted her".
+gronndar i just saw it and that was not it.
Thanks for this, moving from MGS3 to PW and this was great, better plot than I expected
This is fuckin great ! Thank you uploader. My fave series never got to play this game tho.
Thanks, this was so useful. For some reason this game is the only one within the main story continuity that was left out of the legacy collection.
34:19 Wow... I forgot how good many cool characters and moments there are in this game.
I'm playing every single MGS in chronological order and don't own a PSP. thank you for this
Yo Roy is probably the first guy who actually listened to Snake
When snaked requested him to call him Snake and not Boss/Big boss.
When you see Frank Jaeger's arc, Raiden's role in the series makes so much more sense
"Sorry, but I'll never be a father"
How ironic that they made kids out of him anyways.
Clones*, actually.
@@filipeflower the clones were kids at one point
@@SyndicateOperative Of course.
I think this is David Hayter's best voice acting in the Metal Gear series. He's just superb in this. That scream at 1:18:59 just gives me chills every time
I squealed when Ocelot showed up. He's so cool 😍
Thanks I wasn't sure if this game tied into the rest glad I watched this should have been included in the hd collection
Thanks. I never owned a PSP and though I was finally able to play Peace Walker on PS3, this game eluded me.
I haven't played this game ever since it first came out. Really loved it. Can't see anyone but Miller when that first random soldier joined Snake's squad. How this lovely saga has evolved, that's true devotion to your work.
2:31
"C-Cunningham..."
"P-please be gentle..."
Kojima: Portable Ops is canon
Fans: Continue to insist it is not
I'm 30 minutes in and I'd say I've already gotten more enjoyment from the plot, setting and characters than in my dozens of hours in The Phantom Pain. Thanks for your playing and editing work, Kefka.
Oh give me a break.
Thank you very much for the "movie" i just dident wanna spend 10 dollars for a game i knew i wouldnt like to play, not huge stealth fan, but truly love the story from metal gear solid. So thank you again for filling up the hole I had in the series
Who knew that Colonel Campbell was once a Green Beret when he was young
That was incredible- I just finished and wanted to say thanks again. That story was unbelievably great. Really grade-A stuff.
The voice of Johnny becomes Kaz. Johnny died to become Kaz
First time watching this...WHY DO PEOPLE IGNORE THIS GAME?! ;-;
coz Kojima wasn't the writer and director.
daAmazin FatB0y that doesn't mean it's a bad game. I think it's important as it explains why Big Boss left The Patriots and it leads up to the events of Peace Walker.
Phoenix Tunes STILL. Its mostl likely the reason
daAmazin FatB0y maybe... Or maybe because Portable Ops was never forwarded to console but Peace Walker was...
Maybe PO was good but Kojima doesn't seem to see it as canon and imo, if the original creator doesn't acknowledge it then it ain't worth investing into.
thank you for this! now I can play Peace Walker.
Thank you for making this. The game is totally unplayable, especially after how good MGS Peace Walker is. But at least you help me enjoy the storyline
phenomenal I played portable ops when it was released a good many years ago it's still very amazing from the plot to the dialog and voice acting also music it's all badass
Awesome writing and voice acting
"It's not like that." 😂
That motivational speach at 23:53 remainds me of Scolar Visari from Killzone: "Ten years ago I asked for time and that time was granted by you, YOU, the strenght in my arms, the holders of my dreams. Defenders of the Helgast dream, NOW IS OUR TIME!".
This game is amazing! Worth the time and play. It definitely sets it up for Peace Walker.
Thanks for the video, it was awesomely put together
16:50 That is Definitely Kaz Miller
That scene, when he's saying "then you must be Big Boss!" is fun and touching to imagine that it really is Kaz. That he started out as almost a fanboy that was Snake's first capture.
But he dies in 2001 Liquid kills him
+Tormented Zeus What's your point? This is set in the 70's...
Venom Snake For that you should play/watch all metal gear games mainly MGS1 and spc ops, I am talking about Kaz not BB
Tormented Zeus I know, lol. I've played MG since the MGS1 came out so I don't need to (including the original MG games). I was just replying to your ''But he dies in 2001 Liquid kills him'' comment. That comment was just kinda out of place. I knew you were talking about Kaz btw.
Thanks dude, i don't have a psp so thanks for filling me in with this part of the history i was gonna miss, thanks again.
Cunningham was such a great villian in my opinion.
How do some people consider this non canon, this is important plot development!
roy campbell's introduced ffs!
It is canon but only the parts that don't form plot holes, the rest aren't canon
+COMBINEdotCOM Not to mention this is what sparks Big Bosses plan for Outer Heaven and explain's the stuff about Gray Fox.
Kojima said himself that it isn't. That's why.
+Gabe Fried Chicken Kojima is just a hack. This thing was more coherent plot than MGS 5.
I just want to say, thank you so much for making this
Metal Gear Solid, the game actually has the balls to portray Russian soldiers as just normal people.
I remember playing this on the PSP since 2009 this was my first metal gear game before peacewalker and this has a lot of good boss fights like metal gear, python, null, gene, cunningham, there is so much to name
Such a good game in my own opinion. Two thumbs up.
Great post! Don't see enough videos of this game.
Ya know, if you Stamina Kill him, you can unlock Python right away!
His Careers are Scout & Quarterback & he has Unlimited Liquid Nitrogen Granades!
Heed my advice: When batteling Gene, use M63+M870 or M63+M37 Combo & on ˝Extreme˝ use Large Medikit & Large Ration only when your Health & Stamina are bellow half!
I had all of them, null was really good.
1:18:30 I remember watching this part and wondering what significance this soldier had to us. It just seemed like a throwaway cutscene moment until you finally check your soldier roster..it made me sad. He was the first one we recruited.
RIP Jonathan. 😢
Idk any other game series where the protagonist will talk to another human being like this that has no real significance to the story, snake is a legend.
