A superb video Gary thanks to your finesse in catching fish off the shore of the UK. As a guy from Massachusetts I love fishing and your video just assuages my vicarious desire for it!
Nice early morning fishing secession there Gary, then home for some fresh mackerel for breakfast, can't be bad. Thanks for sharing this video, as always very informative and well made, and you really take the time to explain what tackle you're using and why. Over the past few years I've learned a lot from you, and if anyone I know expresses an interest in sea fishing, I tell them to go and watch your channel. Talking of your videos, I don't know what you would think of the idea, but I'd be very interested in knowing how you go about making your videos? The gear and the set up you use to do the actual filming with when you're out there fishing. Then when you get back home, how you do the editing, how long it takes you and so on. Regards to you Gary, all the best David.
Cheap penn wraith 20-60g 7ft lure rod and a good selection of metal lures got me two boxes of Mackrel from a usually quiet pier in rural Ireland. Stiff rods and feathers will definitely get them on soild ground but I love the fights on the spinning rods 🤭
Hi Gary welcome back good to know the Mackerel are arriving now at last will you be trying up to the gate at shields or Littlehaven with the piers mostly shut it will get very crowded everywhere this year maybe even the Leas. Looking forward to one day meeting you and saying hello and thanks for getting me in to fishing again.😀
Hi gaz , another nice little vid .. you’ve got the right idea fishing from the rocks instead of amongst the crowds of macky bashers on the bottom of shields pier .. I remember the vid you did at littlehaven from the beach catching mackerel .. great footage and a bit different .. hope ya well 👍🏻
Loving your content buddy, as far as im aware you dont need licence to fish of rocks and beeches ect right. Once again loving the content, keep them coming
@@Xxx-ly4vq I went to Llandudno the Sunday before last (14th July 2024) to try for a few mackerel from The North Shore. I fished from one hour before high water to two hours after high water. There were over a dozen fishing and from what I saw every one of us blanked. All was not lost as it was a glorious afternoon with some great fresh air and exercise. I will give it another try in a week or so as I have had a new rod, reel and line arrive today and I would like to "christen the new outfit. I am not able to get out to Llandudno as often as I would like to as it is a 200 mile round trip for me.
Wow! What a super star reply! You are amazing! I have been 2 years ago at Moelfre. It can be good, with fishing it’s unpredictable. Tight line,Mate you deserved!
I spin from the rocks, for me you want something with enough power but still capable of swimming your lure correctly. I use a cheap penn wraith 20-60g 7ft rod with the matching reels, any size from 2500-5000 depending on personal choice. You might want a longer rod but I use mine for pike in the winter too. 20-60 allows me to use the small things little 20g metal Japanese lures and also feathers with a 2 oz lead for mackerel. It's also good for jellies like the savage gear sand eels if you fancy some big pollock too
Hi Buddy, I want to start Mackerel fishing. Never done this before and the dog love to at them. Can you recommend any sources videos etc that could hep me? Ps- I live Cullercoats, were best area's for newbie? Cheers
Hi, I've got a few mackerel videos on my channel. The techniques are pretty much the same way to catch them all over the UK. Piers are probably your best bet as it's easier than from the rocks. Blyth pier would be your closest, I think.
Before the big storm last year smashed shields pier that was the place to go for you but you still can fish up to the first gate there but it will get busy soon when the fish arrive in numbers.
@@fishingintheukgarywood cheers mate for reply, so I’m pretty new to fishing feathers and lures and never been to there can I ask when is best time to go there regarding tide times, if tide times are good tomorrow I’ll go

Is this spot easy to find mate coming from crook on a moped 😅@@fishingintheukgarywood
It's just along from frenchmans bay on Google maps towards marsden. It gets quite busy along there so you might not get that spot mate.
Am glad to see someone can catch mackerel,I've been on the Tyne walkway spinning 5 times this season and catch nothing
That's what I was planning on doing tomorrow.

Was rock fishing a few weeks ago and lost tackle pretty much every cast.
Is it location dependent, or am I just bad?

Thanks. No you don't need a licence for sea fishing.

Hi Gary,is mackerel fully in?
Well done bro. Was down the leas last night drew a blank...weed was a pain with incoming tide and wind

Nice to see a few mackerel caught Gaz , what rod are you using I’m after an 11footer my biggest spinner is a 9 ft
Thanks Les, its an old one that I got off my dad years ago it doesn't have a brand on it.
Do you think any will be the Tyne Gary mate like the walkway for instance ?
It's worth a try I had some from there last year
Hi Gary, could you recommend a good 12ft spinning rod for mackerel etc
Samson long cast expanse LS 15-60g

What time is the best to fish for Mackerel ? I am so not friendly with ties.
Keep up the good work :)
Usually first and last light a couple of hours up to high tide.
Any recommendations for a beginner rod reel combo for mackerel (UK)

is this sunset or sunrizy
It's Sunrise.
In the North East you could not give Mackerel away due to their eating habbits (sewer pipe scavengers)

The North East, south shields.
