Rod tip lower and to the side when about the land the fish will reduce so many coming off the hook. Taking one of the hooks off of the lure will stop foul hooked fish and make much easier handling the fish and unhooking them. Learn to dispatch mackerel by snapping the head back, quick and 100% effective rather than bashing them on the head. Tight lines!
I've had other BPM baits ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
Nice fishing video 🎣🫶🏼 one of my favorite fish to catch pacific mackerel I love Pier fishing at my locol fishing pier 🎣👍🏼 and I also love using metal jigs for mackerel fish specialty micro Jigs 🎣
Nice. In Canada we use sabiki rigs with a jig on the bottom. Use long sweeping motion on retrieve. Catch 5 or 6 at a time depending on how many hooks you have. From shore and warf.
Hi great video are you using braid? I always end up with major line twist and knots any tips you could give me to try stop it happening and whereabouts are you fishing tight lines!
@@FISHINGWITHCAL hopefully! I bought a 9ft 4 piece penn fierce travel spin rod at the end of last year and haven't used it yet! No excuse really... Can't wait to catch something with it!
Just discovered you Cal . Really enjoyed the episode so have SUBSCRIBED ...we are off to Benllech on Anglesey in August ...the last 5 Years have been awful fishing from the rocks !!!...but if you are starting off the year we'll then do you think it will change this year ??? A lot of the local fishermen ARE blaming Spanish Trawlers for taking massive amounts of Mackerel off shore !?!... What happened to Brexit and reclaiming our fishing grounds !?! ...Take care ! A FROM the Wirral 👍
Thanks for subscribing mate I appreciate it 👍🏼 I think the lack of fish is from a variety of things. My main concern is over fishing though, it's gotten to a point where it's just completely crazy to think you can take fish on that scale for such a long time. Even the small boat trawlers over here catch hundreds of rays, huss, you name it, by the hundreds each time. I don’t think we'll have a great mackerel season no, I think the days over loads of fish are gone now. It's not great!
Cal, next time try to get your rod down,I mean the tip down, and the rod sideways not facing the sea on the last meters. Reason for that is that, not just mackerel, all fish when we get them been drag to surface, they stressed and start to swim and pushing down. In surfcasting using monofilament thin lines , like 0,16mm to 0,26 mm on the big spools using 15 meters of tapered shock leader's, we using this technic to get the fish out of water, and I'm using on spinning also and works, specially with mackerel because they have week jaws, sea bass have stronger jaws and bigger mouth. Just try you will see the difference.

That made me smile, thanks.
Great fun to catch, and top eating!
I say that, and I now fish in Australia!
Just waiting on them coming into our waters in Scotland , get a couple for the freezer for pike bait👌🏻
Nice 👌🏼

@@caperjim yeah that’s a very popular method. Especially in deeper water. Often you’ll get pollock on the bottom jig and mackerel on the feathers.
great lil session hopefully heading out for a few hours tomorrow looking forward to it
Nice mackerel jigging
Keep the vid comeing cal it's nice to see .I'm still laid up because of those rocks 😂
Best down to earth channel out there!

Yeah mackerel are great fun. Good sign if they’re showing up now.
@@carlharris2808 He's in Guernsey, just off the North West Coast of France.
Great to see the mackerel, and yes, not sure why people use heavy tackle for them.
Hopefully they reach Norway soon.
@@carlharris2808 I’m in the Channel Islands too.

Nice to see early mackerel showing in the channel. Hopefully they will hit SW Devon soon.
That's like asking a woman her arse size... You just DON'T do it 🤦♂️😂😂😂

Imagine if mackerel would grow to 3 Lb or more, they're mini tuna 😂 My best one is 1 1/2 Lb, it was a monster and caught from the shore.
I think the British record is something like 5lb! That thing would go some 🚀
Jesus can you imagine... Be like a torpedo on the braid 😳😍

Yeah it makes sense to lower the rod more when getting them close in. I’ll give it a try, thanks 👍🏼
I've got that exact same lure
They’re good for punching against the wind.
Now that's encouraging. I hope they're coming my way.
I sell tackle, they make excellent non lead jigs, much smaller. Made from tungsten
