My grandma used to cook this soup time to time & we didn't like it too much because we thought it was very boring soup. Cabbage again... But I've come to love the earthy flavour of cabbage with bean paste as I grew up. Now my kids think it's a boring soup, because it's just cabbage. But I'm gonna make this soup again soon. Hopefully they will remember it & like it when they grow older.
This was my husband's favorite soup when we lived in Australia. The ingredients are very easy to be found and cheap. Also it is so easy to make. With rice, it was the perfect dish to start the day. So till this day I remember the Australia life whenever I make this soup. We were young couple in our 20s with not much money but I wanted to make my husband delicious meals. I made breakfast and packed his lunch kimbab everyday. We have been together for 14 years now. I guess I should make this soup and kimbab very soon cause it brings me so much lovely memories. 망치님, 새해 복 많이 받으세요~!
Maangchi! I’m a longtime subscriber of yours and stopped watching so often because of life changes and school studies. Life has recently slowed down for me, and It made my morning to be able to come back after years of not watching to see you are still making new content. As a viewer I can tell you genuinely love what you do and I get a huge sense of nostalgia and excitement watching your videos. Thank you for still being here for your viewers! We appreciate you so much!
The story of this soup was a great visual treat ❤. I watch your videos whenever I feel lonely and miss my mother. The way you talk is really soothing. It's interesting to know different food cultures. I tried your Kimchi, by using easily available ingredients here in India with some Indian flavour customization , and turned out amazing ✨Lots of love🤗🥰🫰🏻
Thank you so very much for all of your time and energy in sharing all of your wonderful recipes with us, Maangchi! I am always excited to see a new episode of yours. I cook a lot of your recipes, and it brings me so much joy. Thank you so much. Please take care and stay well. Namaste' Sean~
Hi Maangchi! After watching so many of your videos, I finally got to courage to start cooking Korean food. My family loves it. Thank you so much for sharing your culture and cuisine with us for all of these years.
The background story about the morning shift at the yard, having their breakfast is very moving. We are no longer connected to the social reality of nutrition. Thank you Maangchi for reminding me of the value of sustenance and communal eating.
It's nice to know that 'rice water' could be used to prepare stock! It makes the soup thicker and more delicious! Thanks Maangchi, for the tip!😄😋 And it's really some nice memories you've shared too, about how the food seller's food just warmed the tummies of those workers early in the morning, that also prepped them up before their work day started.😄
This is such an amazing recipe. Thanks so much, Mangchi! It's not only healthy, easy to make, versatile, but affordable as well. Your channel is great! Thank you❤😊
Thank you so much for all your recipes. I really love korean cuisine, i love to cook your recipes. I bought your cookbooks and im sooo happy with it!!!
I made a variation of this using white cabbage, Japanese red miso and potatoes instead of rice. Also, leeks, a shrimp bouillon cube and a tablespoon of fish sauce. It was delicious!
Oh my goodness, after blanching the Cabbage, the colours became so beautiful. I have to try this soup. I LOVE soups. I wonder if it would also be good by adding some chicken to it. I really want to eat this soup!
Thank you for making more vegetarian recipes, Maangchi! Although I love meat, it is nice to have more veggies every now and then, especially during week days.
The story was so wholesome and I loved the recipe, very simple and cheap, I've never seen a recipe before that used rice water, can't wait to try it Edit: I just made it for dinner today!!! I love soups, this was more tedious than I anticipated but it was delicious, thank you for sharing your recipes ❤❤❤
I made a large pot of this after seeing this video. It makes a great soup as is, but it's also a delicious base to add other things to. I can highly recommend adding gochujang to this soup, it takes an already delicious recipe to a whole new level. I have also tried adding chicken, which worked really well and I am considering trying it with white fish too.
Oh my God my mouth started watering when u said "kimchi day" 😢 Incheon airport customs removed my kimchi from the bag 😢😢 they didnt allow me take it while it was a small 400g bag😢 i love and miss the "real home korean kimchi" ❤ envy u my dear ❤
The rice water from the first and second rinse is extremely useful for dishwashing. Soak any pots and pan with grease stains or food bits clinging to it. Scrub gently with your dishcloth or sponge and rinse again with dish soap/detergent.
Hello Ma'am Maangchi , I'm from France 🇫🇷 , I very like all your content. So much more fun to all women. It gives me more appétit to cook and have a good meal for my children, most for my husband 😍. God will use you more ❤
Hello from London Maangchi love your cooking only the problem is amount salt in soya paste and anchovy. What can I do about it. I'm not allowed to have so much salt. Thank you it's cold here too. Take care
thank you very much, will definitely make this soup but then without the fish (because i'm vegan), but it either way looks super super good. thank you. also loved hearing about your memories! super sweet. thank you
Hi Maangchi!! Can I use healthy boy brand? It’s a little thinner, but it’s the fermented soy bean paste/sauce I have right now. Should I add more or less? I know it also has some bits of the beans in there. I usually stick really true to your recipes. Both in the books, and your videos. I really want to make this soup. It looks wonderful. But, I have to order the ingredient

Sean~

You could probably replace the fish with a piece of kombu

Do you have a vegetarian recommendation instead of the anchovies? Dried mushrooms or seaweed maybe?
Then, make the soup tastier by using vegetable stock instead of water. www.maangchi.com/recipe/chaeso-gukmul
@@Maangchi thank you :)
Can you teach us to make misugaru powder
Biutiful shearing
I still make the baechu doenjangguk recipe you posted 14 (!!!) years ago; one of my favorites!
Is this version less thick because it has rice water instead of flour?
I love your cooking Maangchi. I am starting a cooking channel myself. I hope I do as well as you.
This Video makes me craving for soup in this hour😂😂 just want to ask is there any difference if we don't blanch the cabbage first? Coz if cooking for 30mins, I'm sure Napa cabbage already very soft.
으아... 한국 요즘 너무 쌀쌀한데 따듯한 한 사발 먹고 싶어요...
Making this today! I feel like I can’t keep anything down.
This looks great and simple. But I can’t get dried anchovies easily, can I use fish sauce? If yes about how much?
Choose beef, chicken, or vegetable broth instead of water for a tastier flavor then. Good luck!
God bls u 😊1
I want this so bad
Love the video, I’m a vegan and would like to make this recipe, could I use half rice water and half vegetable stock instead of anchovies?
Looks amazing! How would you replace the anchovies for a vegetarian version?
Used dried mushrooms instead 😌
Maangchi, you must try make seblak
Спасибо!👍👍👍💖🇺🇿
Hi Maangchi! Can I use fish cake instead of dried anchovies ? And how I can make the rice water? Thank you 😊
Would dried shiitake work to make a vegetarian version of this?
