Only just realised in the past month I’ve been peri menopausal since I was 40 (could set your clock by my periods). I’m now 51 (less regular now) and still having symptoms of all sorts… brain fog, debilitating depression, aches, night sweats … the list goes on… I wouldn’t wish my particular experience on my worst enemy. Hell on earth. 😢 I never knew this was what was going to happen.

OMGoodness I could cry I am currently experiencing so many awful symptoms muscle stiffness and balance problems being the most extreme to the point that I can’t hardly walk and being a hairdresser is proving very difficult to work. It’s resulted in me having to have lots of medical investigations which I am still waiting for results. I feel like I’m going mad a lot of the time but listening to Dr Louise Newson explain the many strange symptoms of menopause it is with great comfort that I’m not alone and i will be able to function normally at some point. Thankyou so much.

Prayers and thoughts with you and all of the menopausal women out there.

Can relate massively at age 42. Sad realisation is I've suffered many of these symptoms much earlier due to an abusive relationship and a huge breakdown at just age 29. I dropped from my healthy weight of 8 stone to just 4.5 stone. My Asian GP had no sympathy & simply stated I had to help myself. I could barely stand nor walk in a straight line and felt as though I had full on dementia as well as chronic anxiety. A psychiatrist with primary mental health diagnosed me with agoraphobia, GAD, chronic depression, panic disorder and PTSD. Not once were my hormone levels checked. So after wasting most of my 30's in pain shut away & missing out on my daughter (she was just 5 when I fell on my knees) growing up in this mental torture and complete dissociation, I'm now going through peri menopause it seems! Who'd be a woman?!! All the doctors offer is diazepam, propranolol and anti depressant medication which numbs any feelings and paralyses you. Prevents you getting back to any semblance of normality. Western medicine fails to adequately aid people in my opinion and is more geared to creating profit, period. New sub Doc, great info 👍🏻

You have verbalized in such plain English all the neurological issues facing women in menopause. I was not impacted with hot flashes (maybe had 2 or 3 ) BUT my worst menopausal symptoms are indeed neuro based (memory, balance (depth perception), word finding, insomnia) followed by gastrointestinal symptoms (severe constipation, bloating, etc) and crushing fatigue! TY for all you do! You're helping women all over the world. Grateful from across the pond!

I'm so glad that you mentioned doses at the end. I'm already on 100mcg patches and after a few years, my bloods still aren't even at 250pmol /L. I'm post menopausal, so there won't be any more produced by me. Not being able to increase to a physiological level concerns me very much as I'm a coeliac and sedentary because of M.E.
I understand that it's because the manufacturers licence is only up to 100mcg. I wish they'd trialled higher doses, because for a lot of women, 100mcg isn't doing it. Now waiting to see the NHS meno clinic, but of course they can also refuse on 'maximum dose' grounds. What can we do when we're NHS patients? Thank you 😊xx

I am 47 and for couple years i have different symptomes and when i go to my gp is "it;s stress. And i said mored than couple times that i know that stress might be one of the factor but i feel that is not all. I have IBS, constipation, globus sensation , pins and needles in my body , swollen hands, aches in my hands, icchy skin... and they did tested inflamation levels in my body and luckily there was not. and yet No one but really no one mentioned that those symptomes are related to hormons. Someone recently told me that women in ther 40's experience all sort of menopousal symtomes. So as medicine has indeed failed women , i went on a yourney to discover what are this mysteious symtomes. and i found you. I wish if i can get in contact with Dr. Newson.

I have been suffering night drenching (changing my bed x2 per night) since 2018. My cognitive function and emotional state has been declining and so terrifying this year that I believed i was beginning with dementia like my gran I nursed. After several visits to my GP surgery over the years I was finally referred to Endocrine (hormones) at the beginning of THIS year! The young Dr I was seeing there was absolutely CLUELESS on menopause (She was horrified at me taking T) and told me I should stop ALL HRT immediately and especially the testosterone!!GRRRR.. (the game changing hormone for me!). I didn't agree but stopped it anyway as at the time it scared me. They were looking for tumours. I hadn't had a period for 2 yrs (on POP contraception!)so has diagnosed me POST MENOPAUSAL?!! I am 44. I began this journey at 36. Since being discharged I have had 2 PERIODS! this is how un educated our NHS medical profession are! Due to cognitive function and emotional state I have now lost my job and suffering anxiety and depression so badly I am scared to leave my house. Menopause can be devastating. I have refused anti depressants and instead am starting my HRT again with testosterone. I do not care what the hospital have said! It's the only thing that keeps me functioning and well! Ladies PLEASE listen to this amazing woman!
Thank you for your work Louise ❤ (came to watch you at Buxton).

At 51 I’ve just been diagnosed with endometriosis. I’d love to try HRT as I have had peri symptoms for the last 6 years but so many on the endometriosis support groups I follow say HRT makes their endo so much worse and there seems to be such conflicting advice for endo and hrt, I’m so so confused and my GP and gynae aren’t particularly helpful. I no longer know what to do. All I know is that I am bogged down with peri symptoms and it’s deeply affecting my life right now.

I'm now considering HRT, it's hard to say when I went through menopause, periods went haywire and stopped in my mid 40's, I was under a large amount of stress at the time. Because it would be more than 10 years from when I went through the menopause. Am I at a higher risk or any risk of anything as I would be starting HRT much later in life and is it right you can only be on HRT for five years. Thank you.

Women shouldn't be experiencing breast tenderness if you are taking the correct supplements especially Vit B complex and high quality Magnesium. And of course VitD3 daily all year round. All these issues can be cleared up when you are younger.
