- In this video, Dr Louise Newson shares her knowledge about testosterone in women.
She explains that testosterone is the most biologically active hormone women have when they are younger. She also discusses some of the symptoms that can indicate a testosterone deficiency, including low mood, disrupted sleep, low interest in things, reduced libido, muscle and joint pains and also headaches.
Two months after hysto BSO, I woke up feeling dead inside, coupled with severe anxiety. I hadn’t been offered anything, not even oestrogen. I decided on sui&ide, I took myself to A&E, they termed it ‘in crisis’. I had all over muscle deterioration, blurred eyesight, I felt no joy, brain fog so bad I could stare at a wall all day, and I just didn’t see the point in living. They gave me patches and sertraline. Apart from the hot flushes going away, the way I felt didn’t change. I stopped running, cycling, and socialising, my life was destroyed. I was referred to a nhs gynea, and managed to get to the front of the queue because of my sever mental state. She put me on testosterone, and it changed my world, literally, I’m one of those women that function well on it, I would have ended things by now if I hadn’t have been helped.
Bless you love. Your story sounds similar to mine. It’s a traumatic time in a woman’s life. I also felt I had zero reason to live. Started testosterone today so I’m hoping for a turnaround. Good luck on your journey ❤
Take care and be blessed!
Updated one month on HRT.
This is exactly how I felt , when I hit post menopause. I’ve started HRT, including testosterone a week ago, hoping desperately that it’s the help I need.
Update 5 weeks later: the HRT has changed everything! I am totally functional again, I have energy, joy, happiness, strength, clarity, etc . It took a full 3 weeks to start feeling better, but I do! Each day on HRT is better than the last as it gets my hormones more regulated. I imagine by this time next month I’ll be even better off than I was before meno. I knew hormone function is important, but I never realized just how important until I experienced it for myself.
I work in mental health, and have now added hormone health to my assessment and treatment protocols.
I’m on hurt spray and progesterone can you get testosterone from go on nhs
@@susanfrail9564 the testosterone has been a game changer over all other hrt I’ve been on since 2021. I’m back to normal again. My sex drive is back as is my energy and clear thinking
Thank you, Dr. Newson!!! Can you also make an episode on DHEA? 🙏
Omg I can't even wait to see someone in this woman's clinic! Why don't we have more providers who care about women like this doctor does!? Thank you for informing women. It's our bloody bodies! we should have access to replacing our own natural hormones
Thank you for all you do! You are just fabulous and how very generous of you to set up this channel and offer women all over the world free advice. You have helped me greatly through perimenopause and now surgical menopause.
Hello Doctor From Belleville, Illinois in the United States. I want to thank you so much for helping me and all the other ladies! I have had a lot of depression in my 30s then 40s come and and having alot of weird symptoms...I had no idea what was going on. The sadness was unbearable. I found out I was perimetapausal. I was 41 ....I thought that was for people who were over 50. Shocked, I was! They put me on a low dose birth control. It wrecked me mentally! I got off after a month and a half. It was so bad...I felt the only choice I had was to end things. Ketamine treatments saved me. I'm finally stable again so I They put me on a low dose birth control patch. On day 8 I felt the sadness come back. Every day got worse. I was back at rock bottom. Watching your videos I demanded to have my testosterone tested it's very low! In the United States it's supposed to be at almost 9-42 range. I'm a low 3... in my heart I believe this was the problem the whole time! Now I have to fight to get the testosterone and hold on for the 3 to 6 months! I'm finally hopeful and feel vindicated! I'm not crazy! Thank you for your video! You are saving lives around the world!
So glad to hear your suffering might soon come to an end and that you're still willing to help other women with your knowledge all around the world 💪!
Best wishes from Germany 🇩🇪 🍀🍀🍀
I am on HRT 53 estradiol gel , It made the difference but not for missing words and memory recalling, assested with a professional gynechologist and endocrinologist we added DHEA since a couple of months which optimized my mood and response to stress I must say sensitively , which it helps my daily life a lot I must admit, I look forward to add pregnenolone apparently it helps with cognitive function. would you please make a video about DHEA PLUS PREGNEGNOLONE? For INTRACRINONOLOGY dhea and pregnenolone are converted in the exact missing hormones each individual need .
it would very very appreciated thnaks for sharing your knowlede dr louise you are an angel for us ladies blessings
She briefly mentions DHEA Pessaries at 20:15
This peaked my interest because, as I understand it (maybe I'm wrong), DHEA (in combination with magnesium) converts into testosterone (and estrogen).
I searched online and it's called an Intrarosa pessary.
Thank you so much! This is very interesting, Iv just started HRT because of your informative vlogs, Early days for me, but if adding testosterone to my hormone stack will help further improvement especially with my muscles and joints I’ll bring up the topic at my 3 month review if I feel it may help ☺️
Thank you for making these videos! ❤
Thank you so much for this informative video 🙂
Thank you Dr. Newson
Thank you for explaining things to us! Thank you for being there for us, women!!
Unfortunately, no mention of hair loss caused by DHT.. I notice that whenever Testosterone gets talked about by the Dr on her channels the possibility of hair loss due to sensitivity to DHT in some women doesn’t ever get a mention. I see lots of confused and concerned women’s comments underneath Instagram posts by the Dr that just get ignored. They are worried about the effects of DHT and the resulting androgenetic alopecia which for both men and women can be devastating. It would be great to have this addressed in future posts.
Testostérone Was great in the beggining i didnt lost hair for 3 years
Now it is that i loose a lot my hair i stop it because i dont have an other solution but i dont feel great
Oh dear, this is very concerning. I had no idea that hair loss was a potential side effect. I hope the doctor addresses this as a concern!!
High level of Testosterone is what gives men male pattern baldness. I don't understand how people don't know this 🤣
Some man loose hair others don’t. You can do TRT without wanting to be the female version of the HULK. I was not even on anything, was healthy, eating well exercising for over 25 years excellent body composition lean and the week following me loosing my period I couldn’t even touch my hair because shedding?! Oh no!! it was falling in chunks plus not to mention every single symptom in the book for menopause. A month into HRT (3years now) and TRT injections?! It all went away. This is to tell you that we are not all the same, it might not work for you but it did for me and many others as well. At the end of the days women need testosterone as much as men do but without going overboard.
Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like you are one of the lucky ones whose hair loss isn’t permanent or caused by DHT. Unfortunately For many men and women this isn’t the case. Indeed we are all very different.
Thank you so much
Hello Dr Louise. Thank you for this podcast, I listened with much interest. Do you know anything about testosterone’s impact on a post menopausal woman with chronic fatigue? The woman is my friend, she is not on HRT and has suffered terribly with fatigue for about 10 years. We’re not wondering if this could be related to hormones
THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤🎉
I'm on DHEA would you make a video about that to please😊
Hello. Can you tell me if DHEA is efficient ? I have no access where I’m at for anything else but DHEA so I was hoping it will work.
Went for my follow up appt on Tues and decided I'd try testosterone. At that time I'd had no spotting of blood. Starting a pea size amount of testosterone gel on Friday and had a bit of spotting and same today? Should i expect this regularly now please? Feel worried.
My doc has me on testosterone but not estrogen. How is that affecting the body?
Dr Louise how much is it to get privately
Is there any help for hair loss? When i try the anhydrous lipopen cream prescribed by my doctor, I feel great but experience hair loss. I already have fine hair and it makes it far too thin. I have even tried adding small dose of dhea and same happens.
Yes, please Dr. Newsom address the hair loss problem!
Life after4066 how do you get it on nhs and is it a cream
I had a blood test & they said my testosterone level was normal but I feel I need testosterone can I still have it. I am on HRT
This is very useful thank you. My Dr has said my levels are not low enough at 1.3 and if she prescribes testosterone I could get facial hair and a deep voice you have just reassured me that this is complete nonsense
I had a level of 2.4 when I started testosterone in a smallish dose…no facial hair, no mass muscle, no deep voice. Your dr doesn’t have enough education on the matter!
At 14:15 you explain why pellets and patches aren't used in the UK. You say you offer testosterone in a different way that doesn't require people to constantly come back to your expensive, busy private clinic... You started explaining this, but get distracted on a different subject and never finish how you do it. That's exactly the info I need. How do I get testosterone replacement in a country that doesn't provide patches or pellets for women.
Please anybody know this?!? I'm desperate for this information. 🙏🙏
Nevermind answer starts at 20:20
Hi Dr Newson, l know this is off topic, but please please please can you address the question of how HRT might effect fibroids, in particular when there is a possibility of them being heterogeneous. My partner is running into brick wall after brick wall with our health supplier getting nowhere fast. Simply won't even talk about the option of HRT, for fear of possible cancer. Incredibly frustrating and distressing. And yes I am the 1% of men that understand how menopause can crucifie women. Thank you.
She needs a different doctor! There are wonderful doctors who understand the LOW risk of HRT, but they’re hard to find. I ended up with a naturopath who’s been wonderful. But, my functional medicine doctor was happy to prescribe hormones as well. Either of those should be willing to prescribe, but will ask for exams more often to ensure fibroids aren’t growing.
If she’s not up for complementary/alternative doctors, you can look for a menopause specialist on your countries menopause society directory. They should certainly know that hrt is safe with fibroids. In North America it’s the North American menopause society.
I just started testeron topically would you let me know how long it takes for me to work for exacetive function as I am experiencing tremors anxiety severely ,age 65 and 2 weeks on estradiol and progesterone
YT deleted my previous long reply to you for some reason. Research progesterone intolerance and progesterone sensitivity. I think that's what caused my panic and tremors. Good luck!!!!
Many doctors on YT say, it takes patience with T: 3-6 months and remember to start slowly...
What about getting testosterone through pellets? Is that a good delivery method?
I have now heard so many experts like her advise against pellets in HRT and TrT because they “shove” a scoop into your body then it randomly releases more than may be needed. It’s not precise dosing. Also, most clinicians love to sell them because they get the highest profit from marking them up ridiculously high in price.
Can u please tell me what testosterone does to cholesterol cause my levelx are a bit high
I developed high cholesterol for the first time since menopause. My dr explained this happens because choleaterol is used by our sex hormones for transport and metabolism. So, when our hormones drop we may see an increase of serum cholesterols because the body is still making the cholesterol but it’s no longer distributed and used by the hormones we aren’t creating.
So, HRT should create a reduction in cholesterol.
I am on blood pressure medication. Is it OK to take Tesosterone or can it raise blood pressure.
My gynechologist/ endocrinologist prescribed me dhea supplementation and pregnenolone instead of testosterone, which in some countries is not even on the market in the female version which is patch but only in the male gel version which has to be dosed so accurately to avoid excessive dosing so it is not very managable if you get the point , and can increase not in all ladies BP modifications which are not desired.blessings
Tell them that you were female at Birth but you identify as a man they'll give you as much testosterone you want😂
Are there any affiliated doctors in France who can prescribe testosterone. Im 71 and have severe osteoporosis. My GP here can prescribe estrogen and progesterone, but, of course, can't prescribe testosterone!
Here in Portugal I have had to seek out an “anti-aging” doctor to find someone who will prescribe Testosterone. It may be the same in France.
Hi! I live in UK and I'm portuguese can you please let me know who is your doctor in Portugal. Thank you
Okay so what is being done about this. Coz I don't see anything here that can be bought over the counter except zinc, testosterone boosters and not even sure they help so taking ginger, zinc and tumeric at the moment and magnesium is the other one too and a few other things.
All these symptoms caused by low testosterone are similar to symptoms caused by low oestrogen. Is that right??
Some testosterone is converted to estrogen. So there would be some correlation in low estrogen symptoms.
A lot of women actually do very good on just testosterone replacement as it does convert to estrogen.
💯❤
Does HRT cause Melasma?
In usa prejudice and after age 57 not allowed to prescribe
Omg yes. The emotional flatline. Yes, this is me. Lost mojo.
Unfortunately menopause taylor states this exact thing about testosterone… it’s for men. She has a large following and has great content overall but I was taken aback when I heard her dismiss it outside of possible sexual desire issues.
I had a consultation with Menopause Taylor and was not impressed. She seemed dismissive and said I needed to go on the pill … I was already on estrogen and progesterone. My sleep has been awful, my joints hurt, I keep gaining weight and I’m losing muscle despite being very active. This week, I had a thorough work up and it turns out I’m testosterone deficient. I will be starting supplementation soon. Thank goodness I kept searching for an answer!
She's an idiot.
Agreed. I had consulted with her, she’s very pushy on birth control if you’re between 35-45 years old, but you can’t find bio identical birth control, which is what I prefer.
Menopause Taylor is bias towards synthetic hormones and doesn’t seem to care that there are key differences between non-bioidentical and bioidentical hormones.
She’s very dismissive as a doctor, and not very “comforting” in my opinion.
And yes she poo-poos testosterone and bio-identical HRT. And she promotes doing surgery to remove all your reproductive organs once you’re done having children, etc. 😮
@@Blueskies7775Omg. Is she a real doctor though? I'm just starting my search for help with periMenopause issues. I've seen her name pop up in many comments, people recommend her, but this doesn't sound good at all.
@@kathitroy4768 Oh wow. Thank you for sharing your experience with Dr. Taylor.
I was considering a consult with her as well. Now... probably not, thanks for your comment. I have exactly the same symptoms as you mentioned.
If docters online would just tell what would be benificial when you are a women in menopause who has some dryness symptoms. Without going on and on about other things like testosterone in relation to the brain and blahblahblah....that would really help. I dont need to be a specialist myself. I just need good advice. Thanks. I suffer from dry Mucous membrane which causes my vagina to burn. I will take the risks. I rather have some good ten years ahead of me then the rest of my life ahead without hormones replacement and suffer. Thank you very very much. If Im okay again I can work again and be of help to society as a whole again, thank you.
I've seen other doctors talk about vaginal estrogen, that might be what you're looking for
thanks, thats right. It is what I am using at the moment. It still feels sour. So maybe more doses will help but I dont know were to go for a good menopause gynacologist-I allready had two and they are very careful with HST@@Roxy5322
Thanks, thats right. I use that at the moment but it does not help me enough still. It is difficult to find a good gynacoligist who really knows about this subject. @@Roxy5322
She has already talked about it in other videos from 3 years ago. Go and do some research. Look up Vagifem as well and Sylk for dryness.
For burning/etc of vaginal areas, vaginal estrogen CREAMS work best. Not the tablets. It’s messier but it works better because the cream gets to all the internal and external tissues.
Not all men with low testosterone have these symptoms. Furthermore men with normal test have symptoms of depression, obesity and lack of libido all the time. Not all women experience significant symptoms from menopause despite obvious dips in hormone levels. Clearly it is not enough to simply equate low levels of x hormone to y symptoms. This being true exogenous hormones should be a last resort method as you have no clinical grounds to recomend it as a solution. My question then is are you really trying to exhaust all variables and being transparent about your uncertainty in diagnosis and treatment or are you pushing a possible LIFELONG hormone as a placebo while profiting enormously from it.
Very sad to suspect base motives in such a wonderful woman's advocate! 😢
