    Great job. Looks fantastic against the green wall. I really appreciate that your build techniques are very accessible for us guys and gals watching at home. Unfortunately, I was not in a position to build my twins' cribs 15 years ago. But my father in law did buy us store bought convertible day beds and the flexibility was super handy and we used them for years and years. Very smart move on your part. I still have the metal frames, I hung them from the garage ceiling and store scrap lumber in one and various items in the other.

    I am building this crib now for my first grandchild due in Jan 2024. The plans are great, and just the math involved in the slat layout was worth the cost of the plans! Making it out of cherry, with Bourbon colored Rubio. I will probably use a router on the top caps to put a profile on them and also rout some grooves on the legs just for some visual appeal and to make it one of a kind. Thanks for the work you put into this!

    Thanks for the very detailed video, and even more so, THANK YOU SO MUCH for offering the plans available for purchase! Your design jives very well with what I had in mind, and the low cost of the pdf was a no-brainer,. That saved me hours of figuring and I'm very grateful for that! Like you, I'm working with rough sawn white oak. For a little extra flair, I am planning to use walnut for my headboard panels. I happen to have a little walnut laying around, and I think it's a cool contrast against the white oak. I've done a bit, but not a lot, of woodwork the past couple years, and this will be my first project incorporating rail and stile joinery, so very much looking forward to the opportunity to try something new! I got my legs glued up tonight and will be moving on along soon! If our OBGYN is right, I've got about 7.5 months do finish up the project!

    Hey John, terrific video and I really liked the design. I am tackling this project for my first grandchild using some really, really, really rough cut slabs from a buddy who had a few large sugar maples come down several years ago. Another buddy milled them up into the slabs. Took quite a while to mill up the components using my DYI benchtop equipment, planer, jointer, router flatting jig. I was planning on using mortise and tenon joinery for the slats but, being the novice that I am, forgot to add the 2 x 3/4 length adder for the tenons and cut the slats to your specs. Going the dowel route now as I don't have any more of the local maple. Excellent job on the plans too. Must of taken a huge amount of time to include that detail. Cheers

    Just finished the build following your plans, it was fun, lot of lumber planing, I did my rails/stiles with table saw, one thing I struggled with was leg hole layout, I ended up setting it together to orient hole locations, had I done that first I'd have saved some time. I'm having an issue is finding a used frame that fits dimensions, I ended up at 27-1/2"W x 51-3/4"L, couple frames I've found are around a half inch larger, may just build one to fit. Thanks for the plans, nice job. Your dresser is next, my third grandchild is due in Feb. 👍

      @@JohnBuildsIt 28 x 52 is what one person told me, most of the cheap cribs are not very close to me, so I’m asking them to measure for me before making a 45 minute drive for a 40 dollar crib.

    Great project, particularly because this one has more than one function! It can convert to a daybed when the crib part is no longer necessary. Hi John - these are great plans! I am able to do a 3 panel crib instead of a 5 panel like you have on the plans - I came across an old table built out of solid 1-1/2 " oak! Looks like it was made using hand tools... anyway, i have it disassembled and if i can get it halved i will be able to make most of the crib out of it! My question is do you have any reason i should make 4 or 5 panels instead of 3? Anything i should look out for? Thanks!

    Hey! Great build and video! I enjoy all your stuff. My wife and I are having our first kid in June and I’m going to attempt to build this crib. I went ahead and bought your plans online. Question… For the rail and stile cuts… I have a router, but don’t have a router table nor do I have room for one in my garage. What would you suggest doing as some sort of tongue/groove alternate? Something that can be done without a router table seeing that I’m a woodworking noob ha

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  6 місяців тому

      You can just make the tongues and grooves on a table saw if you have one? 👍🏽

    Buying already milled hardwood. Wanted to paint this white and the sales guy asked if I wanted to do poplar vs oak. Would this be a mistake? He made this recommendation as oak is twice as expensive per foot and harder to get right now. I bought these plans too!

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  11 місяців тому

      Poplar is what I usually use for painted projects 👍🏽 with oak you’d still be able to see all the open wood grain through the paint. So unless that’s the look you want, use poplar for a smooth finish

    Hey John - loved the video, bought the plans and it inspired me to build a crib for my first grandchild. I'm a novice -just getting started and fitting out my shop. A couple of questions about your tools: are you satisfied with the rigid jointer? do you have regrets? I'm afraid it will take more work to get things to look good than it saves. Is that right? Second - are you happy with the benchtop bosch router table for doing furniture projects? I would think it's too small but if it's good enough for what you do it will be good enough for me. Thanks.

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  Рік тому

      The Bosch router and table is phenomenal. Really a low priced gem that gives great results. I’ve upgraded my jointer to a bigger, more powerful machine that is of course much faster to run material through. But in terms of quality, square results, the Ridgid always did the job 👍🏽
