I find that if you use just enough liquid in the beginning of processing whole foods, the pieces won't have the liquid capacity to float around in the blender,so the blending material will process quicker and finer since it is so close to the blade.Gravity will be more effective as well. After you've gotten the desired consistency, then you can blend the rest of the liquid to make it a drink. Ratio being 2 dry to 1 liquid in the beginning, depending on how juice filled the whole food is.
ALMOND MILK SHELF LIFE: Because it hasn't been commercially homogenized, or mixed with stabilizers, homemade nutmilk begins to slowly separate into 3 layers** in a few short hours less than a day, and will be fully separated (and fugly in appearance by day 3). A lot of people mistakenly throw out their nutmilk when it separates, think it's gone bad. JUST SHAKE IT UP ! From experience, homemade nut milks are best (if refrigerated) within 6-7 days, and give it a quick shake each time you want to pour a portion. ALMOND PULP TIP: After I've accumulated several pints in the freezer, I'll thaw it in the microwave, buzz briefly in my food processor to break up any clumps, then load up my dehydrator by pressing the pulp flat on parchment to 1/4" thick (simply lay an unopened 1 gal ziplock freezer bag on top and press the pulp flat onto the parchment with the bottom of a sauce pan), and run it at 140F or so for 8-12 hrs or until totally dry ... then I'll buzz it up one last time in the food processor, and the vaccum seal it into a glass jar, where it will keep at room temp for many months. I use it in baking, and for making no-bake crackers, and if you want to turn it back into nut pulp in order to follow a recipe for same it's easy to add some almond milk back to rehydrate it (add 1/4 volume of milk to dried pulp). Anyway, it's high in protein and modest in fiber. Ok, that's my good deed for the day. Thank you, John, for getting me to try Jackfruit. ------------------ ** I refer to the 3 layers, from top to bottom, as Almond Cream, Almond Water, and Almond Lees.
another reason to purchase from John is that he advocates on your behalf for warrantee issues. I bought a juicer off Amazon with a 10 yr warrantee but they didn't honor it. John is a good guy to support.
I'm so glad I found this video ,it definitely made me sub😋😋😋... I'm a vegan and Jamaican and I love both coconut and almond milk. I Grow up drinking coconut milk you definitely made me make my mind up on Purchasing my vitamix and my juicier, since I'm considering selling my smoothies and juices.
Another great episode John! I'll have to keep my eye out for that coconut scraping knife. I didn't know it was so easy to open and process a coconut. Thanks for the lesson.
Much appreciation! I have bought so many juicers and blenders over the years...I can't even count. I love the demonstrations so that I can compare the pros and cons. :)K
John, I run soaked almonds straight through the Omega without running them through the VitaMix. I drop in a handful of almonds and add water. I run the pulp through one more time while adding water. My nut milk comes out beautiful. One issue is that the machine can be difficult to take apart. I've not tried coconut milk yet but would tend to skip using the Vita-Mix. Although I've had no issues, I may use the Cuisinart to finely chop the nuts to lessen the pressure on the Omega. Thanks so much for all of your videos!
The high speed of the blender doesn't damage the vitamins and nutriments ? I thought that was the main point of a juice extractor, slow rotation, little heat dissipated, no damage done
I make nut milk every day so I was very interested to check out this video. But the main argument to switch to vertical slow juicer to strain the nut milk mixture is cleaning time. In my experience it takes me more time to clean slow juicer than nut milk bag. Although I have only juiced vegetables and leafy greens, together with some fruit. Maybe it is easier to clean slow juicer after making nut milk than juicing veggies? Thank you John!
Some varieties of almond trees will actually grow in the northeastern U.S. up to climate zone 5. Fresh coconuts are much more expensive and not always available on the east coast, so usually it's canned or dried coconut or nothing.
John, great video as always! Question (and sorry if I missed it): it looks like the coconut water you get from the nuts isn't enough to make the milk? Do you have to buy more coconut water separately that is the processed type? If so and recommendations? Thanks!
OMG unbelievable so many people are dealing with "Almond pulps"😂 you know you can make almond into almond butter and add a splash of water in it, mix well, add one more splash of water and stir... Repeat. You do it and the almond butter will become weird in texture at the beginning and then get smoother and the color will turn lighter and when it's in a silky thin texture, you can add a lot of water in it at once. Then almond milk done. The mixing job can be done by a mixer. No pulps left that make you have to do a pancake or anything ..
Hi John! Thank you for sharing, I can't wait to be able to make my own! So is this your juicer of choice to make nut milks? I've been trying to decide which one to get, so I've been watching so many of your comparison videos. I'd like to say thank you SO much for everything you do! I'm learning a lot about gardening AND juicing, and it's really exciting. Take care and God Bless! PS...I hope y'all are close to getting your farm! =)
Thank you, I just wanted to double check. I'm SO excited to get a new juicer and improve my families health! I started with a breville (Not knowing any better) and I'm ready for more yield, less oxidation, and to make the yummy coconut products that can break the bank in New England! =) Have a FABULOUS day and I hope you get to spend it in your garden, which by the way is AMAZING! =)
DiscountJuicers.com Hi John is this a juicer you would recommend for juicing leafy green veggies? i need a new juicer. the kuvings that i have tend to cause my juice to feel warm, & the machine itself gets hot when i'm juicing. appreciate it if you would send a reply. thank you.
Just curious, have you tried making acorn, beech nut or some sort of other foraged nut/seed milk? Acorn milk might be more practical as beech nuts take a lot of work for little reward.
Hi John, I had few questions about making my own milk I was hoping you could help with. 1. In the video you say 'make sure the juicer is set up for juicing'. What did you mean by this? Is it not always set up for juicing? 2. We tried your method for making coconut milk today, but it didn't come out like yours. The coconut fat seemed to get stuck between the screen and the screen holder and didn't make it in to the milk which made the milk quite watery. Do you know what we did wrong? 3. What is the difference between the 2 screens that come with the VSJ843? One has small holes and the other has slightly bigger holes. When should I use which one? 4. Should the grey pulp plug at the bottom of the jug be closed all the time? I seem to recall in one of your videos you say to keep it open when using the juicer for something, but I can't remember what. Thanks
Please note: I do not advocate the use of dried coconut shreds to make coconut milk. Only use mature, brown coconut, or it can jam/clog juicer as one customer recently found out. Learn more and purchase the Omega VSJ843 www.discountjuicers.com/omegavsj843.html
What kind of coconut water do you recommend? I recently purchased the Omega VSJ843Q from you thanks to your helpful videos and i'm ready to graduate from grocery store bought coconut milk to the real deal!!!
Friggin' awesome vid .. Been drewling over a juicer for a while now .. But with the whole mlik debat and seeing this, I want to make my hot oatmeal with almond milk instead of regular milk .. Thanks so much
Does the Omega VSJ843 make nut butters? I watched your video on the Kurvings and liked that it makes nut butters. Thank you. I appreciate that you make these videos to educate us on the different juicers.
Question..... when I put my coconut milk in the fridge the fat layer on top solidifies, if I shake it up I just get big chunks solid fat. How do I prevent this?
Hi john good evening.. Finish watching you're video and was wonder if it is really necessary for me to get a juicer ..I have purchased a vita mix and hope to get it soon .. Please give me your best advice...really want to start being healthy my tummy is getting out of shape .my whole body at least....
Hi John, Thanks so much. Love the thought of using my VSJ843 to finish my coconut or almond milk. Now I have to find another use for that nut milk bag ; )
i have a omega vrt 370 and a professional vita mix 3hp so this will be easy but I also got hurom HH-WBB07 which would be better to do the milk after i processed in vitamix
Yes most of us don't use soy anymore but I used to use this process to make soy milk as well. Anyway I agree the process of adding water and nuts to the juicer does not work as well.
I have held off buying a juicer for a while. I was thinking about getting an Omega Juicer, is this juicer good for juicing other fruits and vegetables as well? Or is it best for nuts and not as good for other things.
But won’t you have to lean the screen fro the juicer? Not really saving cleanining but it is easier than squeezing [a nut milk bag] I guess. You can do this same thing with ONE machine Omega 8006. Use the blank screen to process the SOAKED and strained almonds into meal. Add pure clean water to the soaked meal. Then switch to the juice screen and ladel the pulp mixture. Less cleaning, no squeezing, and only ONE machine required.
+DiscountJuicers.com Hi, thanks for responding. I learned from you that the rind is edible and adds lots of phytonutrients. Since I just got the juicer I'm being extra cautious with it. I just wasn't sure if the machine can handle the rind since the manual says to remove it.
What's the name of the blender? Vitamix superblend ???. And the Juicer? Can't understand what you're saying when you mention the names. These videos are great. Especially the coconut milk.
I always struggle opening (Thai) coconuts. I do not have a cleaver. Tapping with a hammer does not work so I use the hammer and a chef knife to pry it open. The knife has now been downgraded as the "coconut opener" as its edge is all wonky and pretty useless. LOL. Btw in my country one Thai coconut cost $4.50!!!
Do you have a video of making the nut milks in the slowstar? Would it work this same way or could you utilize the homogenizing attachment rather than a blender for the first step?
How do you separate the coconut meat from the shell so easily? I had to struggle so much to separate the meat from the shell with sharp knife which is very scary.
Is the coconut water available in super markets, or do you have to get it somewhere special (organic, unprocessed) like a health food store? Also, I have a brand new Slowstar juicer. Will that work for me, along with a blender?
John, I tried this in VSJ843R round model, but it left so much fibre in the milk I had to use a milk bag in the end. Should I have poured it back through? Wonder where I went wrong? 🤔
I live in an island and almonds grow in the wild everywhere so it's real cheap to get 100% organic almonds!!!
You can stick the pulp in a dehyrdator to make almond flour for baking.
I find that if you use just enough liquid in the beginning of processing whole foods, the pieces won't have the liquid capacity to float around in the blender,so the blending material will process quicker and finer since it is so close to the blade.Gravity will be more effective as well.

Noel Miller did you send in your warranty to manufacturer
I had to come back and tell you that I ran my almonds through the juicer like you did on yesterday to make almond milk. I love it. Thank you.

I love your work! Thanks for keeping us informed.
Thanks , May The Lord Bless You Always !
add those almonds to basil when you make pesto
I have a vitamix and plan to get a slow start for my birthday ! I can't wait to make this.....
Excellent video, never thought about using my VSJ to make coconut or nut milk,. Goodbye nut bags.
Steve Zech Amen! 😂LOL
Made coconut milk a while ago with my Kuvings Whole slow juicer. Fantastic stuff. Funny how warm the pulp is when it comes out of the juicer :-)
I was surprised at that too, also how dry it was.
pdude1911 Did the coconut milk go up while juicing in the Kuvings?
John, I run soaked almonds straight through the Omega without running them through the VitaMix. I drop in a handful of almonds and add water. I run the pulp through one more time while adding water. Great videos! Can you make almond milk or coconut with the omega vert 350 or 350hd?
I have a Hurom slow juicer... should work... will try it!
The high speed of the blender doesn't damage the vitamins and nutriments ? I thought that was the main point of a juice extractor, slow rotation, little heat dissipated, no damage done

ilijadobre Did you experience any difference in the almond milk taste or texture in the slow juicer? Did it get more fullbodied?
Some varieties of almond trees will actually grow in the northeastern U.S. up to climate zone 5. Fresh coconuts are much more expensive and not always available on the east coast, so usually it's canned or dried coconut or nothing.
Thank you for another excellent video! I've received just a week ago Sedona Combo dehydrator. Thank you for a great product - LOVE IT!
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
John, great video as always! Question (and sorry if I missed it): it looks like the coconut water you get from the nuts isn't enough to make the milk? Do you have to buy more coconut water separately that is the processed type? If so and recommendations?

If you soak the almonds in coconut water overnight would you get MORE almond flavor out of the nuts? thanks a lot for all you do!!
omega d best slow juicer everrr..
Great video!!! One question.....the coconut water that you added to the soaked almonds in the Vitamix....... Did you get that from young coconuts?
Hi John! The link has a comma not a period. Love the video. Good info as always.
This looks Great!!!
Can we make coconut cream, Coconut Butter & Coconut oil with the Omega VSJ843?

Thanks so much John! Great Video. Will try this VERY soon. Need to purchase coconut tool soon. Janet Y
Janet Y use a dull knife. That's what we use before fancy tools back in the island

John is there a reason you used the dry container for the vitamix instead of the wet one?

Hi John, Why can't I just feed soaked whole almonds with water into the Omega VSJ843 Juicer? Why do I need to blend them before and clean 2 machines?
Great video. How do you know which coconut is right? I see dark brown colors are they the same?
Hi John, Thanks so much. Love the thought of using my VSJ843 to finish my coconut or almond milk. Now I have to find another use for that nut milk bag ; )

What's the name of that tool that you used to cut the coconut meat out of the coconut and where can I find one?
I have held off buying a juicer for a while. I was thinking about getting an Omega Juicer, is this juicer good for juicing other fruits and vegetables as well? Or is it best for nuts and not as good for other things.

I just bought a Kuvings whole food slow juicer. Can I juice watermelon with the rind? The manual says to remove it,but I trust your expertise.
Yes, you CAN juice the rind. Im not sure why they would say that.

HELLO,WHAT WAS THAT CURVED BLADE YOU USED TO REMOVE THE COCONUT FROM ITS SHELL AND WHERE CAN I FIND IT?
Greetings-
John, what kind of coconut water did you add to the coconut and almond milk mixtures?
What's the name of the blender? Vitamix superblend ???. And the Juicer? Can't understand what you're saying when you mention the names. These videos are great. Especially the coconut milk.
John, it is possible to do this on an omega horizontal juicer?
learned a lot!
I am wondering if I can use my tribest slowstar juicer instead? I love the video.
Yes, it will work, but maybe not as well. I share some tips about this in the video.
How well does the Tribest Slowstar make almond and coconut milks?
Sir, what if there is no coconut water? What can be the alternative? Cannot find one in Saudi Arabia... Thank you and more power to your channel!
I always struggle opening (Thai) coconuts. I do not have a cleaver. Tapping with a hammer does not work so I use the hammer and a chef knife to pry it open. John, will the VSJ also do just as well with cashew milk?
Which tastes better? Almond or coconut yogurt?
thanks for the videos!

hi john, very helpful video as always:) I have the VSJ but no vitamix. will a hand blender (stick blender) also do?
Great!!! Thanks!
what/where did you get the extra coconut water from? just purchased coconut water?
John, I tried this in VSJ843R round model, but it left so much fibre in the milk I had to use a milk bag in the end. Should I have poured it back through? Wonder where I went wrong? 🤔
