- When meeting someone for the first time, do you ever find yourself getting tongue-tied or feeling lost when it comes to knowing what questions you should ask to get a conversation going? Help is here! . . .
In this video, business networking expert Ivan Misner reveals ten powerful questions to help get you on the road to making real connections and building lasting, mutually beneficial relationships.
I enjoy knowing why someone is in their line of business... The story of their journey always helps me remember them and refer them to others.
Brand new to BNI.. Old video with relevant truth! Thank you. Using it to prepare for my first One-on-Ones -- I appreciate all you have done to build this fabulous organization
As a missionary, I know that referrals what is the best way of meeting new people and helping them feel comfortable and any environment I’ve seen many miracles from this. I know that what you’re talking about is very important and accurate.
Great video Ivan. Thanks for the great questions. Before I watched this video my favorite question was "what's changed in your life since we last talked". If a new acquaintance I instead end the question with "recently".
Actually, I ask the 5W questions that is the base of any marketing strategy and which I use on a daily basis : Who (target), What (objective), When (period, if apply), Where (target market), Why...
Ive asked people about what are their on-going projects and what’s so interesting about it, i see the excitement when they talk about it and it had created opportunities for me to collaborate as a graphic designer!
Hello Ivan, I just had a great 1 to 1 with Andreas in Mexico via Google Hang Out. I live in North Carolina. It was an awesome 1 to 1. This 1 to 1 stemmed from your recent video when Andreas commented on my comment. Thank you for sharing!
I love this question for networking Ivan: What gets you out of bed in the morning? It is a little open ended but does get the person speaking about what they are feeling positive about and can get the personal relationship off to a good start if they start talking about personal stuff. If its business, that perfect as the conversation starts off positively.
What gets me out of bed in the morning? Usually a need to go to the bathroom!
as an M&E building services engineer (mech HVAC & Electrical) i just love my job. every time a new project lands on my desk, its like a new Christmas present looking at all of the new layouts carried out by the architect, looking at how we can help size the electrical, heating, ventilation and AC equipment and how we can fit in with the architects/structural engineers' layouts. its Brilliant doing the job that i do and i cant see my way of retiring ! ,. perhaps my wife may have other idea's in that, but i have some years left before we have to even think about retirement. ooops, another pressie to open ,. today. 😁
Great video. Thank you. Best wishes from Poland!
Interesting video, thank you for sharing.
how did you start your business? this usually gets them talking about their passions or the events that led up to where they are.
Awesome video!
Hi Ivan:
I'm Sreelatha Pillai from the newly launched "Sovereigns" Chapter in Kochi, Kerala, India. Thanks for these inputs, I'll be using them in my 1-2-1's going forward. Some of my favourite questions are:
1. Tell me some of your pet peeves in your line of work - this I ask after building a rapport and understanding the basics of what the person does and what gets them excited about work. Sometimes, rather than asking about pet peeves, I also ask about highs and/or game changers.
2. Is there something else you think I could've asked that would have made your business interests absolutely clear? _ This, of course would be towards the end of the discussion; sometimes it draws out the other person and the meeting ends up getting longer; so I wouldn't do this when I'm strapped for time.
3. If you could do one thing differently about what you do or how you do it, what would that be? I'm generally ready with a why in case the answer doesn't include a reason for the wish.
Thanks again, this has been a great help.
Thanks for sharing
What a great way to get to know the other person. I would also ask, how did he/she has started the business, about the background of that person a little bit. :-)
I enjoy asking at the end of the rappor building, who do they know that could benefit from a little more mindpower (or whatever you offer) and how can I best send people your way?
This great for me to watch you I joined last month

Daryl Whicker That's a beautiful one, Daryl! Thanks and greetings from Mexico.
Andrés Neira Thank you Andres! Greetings from USA. What do you do?
-Hello! I am on advertising, Daryl, run a small branding and naming business. And you? :-)
That's awesome Andres! I market Alkaline water machines so people can have the best drinking water in the world from their kitchen faucet. Let's schedule a 1 to 1. Let me know when you're available?
-Oh! That can be a fantastic experience, Daryl! I have never been on an international 1 to 1 session: how do you do it? Thru Google Hangouts, Skype or something?
BNI is a platform, it can be a tool, it can be a business fellowship.. it can only work if you make it work for you not the other way round. I was a skeptic for a long time now i just regret why i did not join earlier. If you are disciplined and follow the system.. it will work for sure.

What is the 1st question to ask with a client Senior Manager you are meeting for the first time?
I work with a lot of C Level executives. Ask them what was the one thing they thought might be their biggest barrier and how they overcame it, ask them "when they were a mid-level manager, how did they know they hadn't hit their potential"?
What does your customer care look like?
This is just superb, been searching for "speed dating tips" for a while now, and I think this has helped.
