    I suffered from long Covid for about a year. My weight went up fitness was no existent. Long covid had damaged my lung capacity. In April 2023 I began my journey to better health. Started by walking. At first walking around the block was impossible. Started eating better I educated myself. I'm 85% Whole Foods Plant Based. I have lost 14 kilos and feel amazing ❤

    Hannah. I really like your vlog and have been following you for about a year now. I appreciate you saying that you are not an expert but you are giving false information on the state of the dairy industry in this country. I think your research must be based on other countries because I know for a fact that any dairy with the slightest amount of antibiotic found in the milk upon collection by the tanker will be rejected and have to be discarded. All cows that are on antibiotics are milked as usual but they have a tape which indicates that the milk must not go into the tank. Organic cows are also treated with antibiotics if poorly and the same rule applies to them. Also growth hormones are not allowed to be used in the UK. I also research a lot into health and well being and so I can understand that a lot of what you are referencing is from data in the US which does not have as strict farming policy as we have in the UK. I hope you will take this comment in the spirit in which it is given as I rarely comment on anything I watch but I so enjoy your content and would not like it to be misleading.

    • @HannahAdkins
      @HannahAdkins  3 місяці тому +17

      Hey! Didn’t reference the dairy industry directly regarding that, chickens and antibiotics are an issue in the UK. You could be right because there’s lots of mixed information, unfortunately I’ve learnt that with the farming industry it’s always worse case scenario that seems to turn out true because the industry spends millions trying to cover up what goes on/manipulate the data :)

    • @Candiceholbrook88
      @Candiceholbrook88 3 місяці тому +1

      Regardless of whether this is true dairy contains hormones which directly affects our hormonal balance and creates an opioid response in our body (why would anyone give this to kids?) Absolutely nobody should consume dairy. Such a horrendous, exploitative industry, I struggle to understand anyone who can continue to consume dairy after fully understanding the total exploitation of the female reproductive system and disregard of the love between a mother and baby. I still think lots of people these days think that cows naturally produce milk all year around without producing offspring? If anyone reads this spare a thought to all those babies being carted away moments after birth, to never see there mum again, just so we can drink milk.

    I’m only halfway through but I just want to say (gently) about the organic part for those worrying about eating organic, it’s not true that organic means pesticide free ☹️ there’s also been studies showing that there really isn’t much nutritional difference between organic and non organic foods. So please don’t stress if you can’t afford it! No hate towards Hannah though, I love her videos! 🥰 So excited to see you’ve done another one about nutrition I’ve missed them ❤

    Thank you for taking the time to share this Hannah! I think it's important to remember that what works for one person might well not be the same for another. In my case for example, despite eating a wholefoods, mainly plant-based diet with over 40 different plants a week, regular supplementation, exercise and probiotic natural yogurt, kimchi/sauerkraut, I would still get cold after cold. What might have helped me is additonal vitamin C and magnesium, and daily kimchi or sauerkraut. Since adpoting these additional measures I've ony had one cold🙂I'd be interested in hearing about the cleaning and laundry products you use as I'm guessing that they'll be natural too. I do find that eco-friendly detergents are not as good at getting stains out and am wondering about eco laundry bleach for my white sheets. What about a 'clean with me' video?

    Thank you for discussing your nutrition choices. I have asked several times about your protein because I want to go vegan but I have Osteoporosis and don’t want to damage my bones anymore than they already are… I have researched all of these things for years and my final piece of the puzzle has been protein. I had tried many kinds of shakes and just recently discovered hemp protein. It makes me feel validated in my choices by a lot of the same findings through my research that you mentioned. I am so happy!!!! I feel confident now that I am on the right track. I appreciate you Hannah 💕😊👍🏻

    Organic products are healthier however, here in the U.S., people don’t often realize that they are grown near non-organic produce that is getting sprayed with pesticides and most times that spray makes it’s way (thanks to wind and water run off and water saturation in soil) to the organic produce. I know many horticulturalists and environmental engineers who work with the government who have mentioned this. And I agree, whole Foods and plant based food are always better for you. On a different note, my husband was deployed for 7 months at a time (several times)…I sympathize with you being so far away from your partner. Hopefully you will be able to travel to see him soon (or vice Versa).

    Hannah,
    In your vlog, you mentioned that Tap water is not the healthiest in the United Kingdom. You also mentioned that people, who use Tap water should filter it in a water filter jug.
    I respect your opinion about using a water filter jug to filter water from a tap.
    But can you filter water from bathroom taps or a shower unit?
    I think that Hannah, you still do use Tap water in the United Kingdom to shower or bath. It is unlikely that anyone filters their bathroom tap water.
    If someone did decide to filter their bathroom tap water it would be very expensive and may affect the environment.

    Great video Hannah. I’m not a health nut/environmentalist/vegan in fact I enjoy meat. However I believe like you say it should be organic, as much as possible and limited to a couple of days a week. I have 4 kids and it is a huge worry what I feed them so I try and feed them organic as much as possible. Especially broccoli and blueberries. There is such an increase in cancers in younger people compared to the past especially bowel/colon/intestinal types I believe it is the ultra processed foods, meats pumped with hormones and antibiotics, the rise in fast food and fizzy drinks and how almost everything we buy is stored in plastic. There will never be a major overhaul in any of these areas so it is up to ourselves to make the difference for us and our families health.

    I worked for a mineral water company, so I can answer your question about storage. All the water was stored in enormous metal tanks outside the factory, and all the pipework was metal, so no plastic involved. I still wouldn’t drink it regularly because of the environmental impact of all those bottles.
    Tap water where I live is great, but when I lived in London it tasted awful.

    I know that seeds and vegetable oils like sunflower seed oil, Grape seed oil are good for our healthcare because they Contain polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega class and they are the most important product that help our blood to reduce Cholesterol, they are also good for our immune system, for our skin and they are anti-radical. Obviously we have to see where they come from, how they are extracted because it will not be taken for granted, but they are important to assume.

Never thought of it, but oats are best bought bio. When it is harvested, they add a lot of nasty's to let it dry quickly! Never knew! As for water: in Holland we have high standards of drinkability, so you can drink it from the tap! ❤

    Soy is one of the worst things for your health - organic or not, I met a lady working in a shop in Todmorden who had a large lump at the front of her neck she said her GP said this was because she was vegan and ate soy, it affects hormones, and women in soy eating countries get breast diseases because of eating it.

      @@HannahAdkins It depends where you are reading your misinformation from to 'disprove' it, and what 'green' agenda they have to stop women eating meat - is it those who wrote last month in the media: UK scientists claim that "Vaping while pregnant is safe for both babies and mothers", as an agenda to stop women smoking cigarettes.
      As you say, women should do what works for them though, I personally believe in natural products, including milk in glass bottles not plastic lined cartons.

    In Ultra Processed People Chris Van Tulleken describes the process of making seed oils. It is absolutely revolting. How they break it down in to various components and bleach parts of it so it becomes flavourless and then put it all back together 🤢 his interest in this topic all started when his small daughter had a ball of pistacchio ice cream she left uneaten on a hot summers day and it didn’t melt…you’ll never eat Ben and Jerry’s again. I highly recommend it as a read for everyone.

    Love this! Could you do a similar video on the topic of exercise? There's sooo much information out there and I feel so torn and confused on what to do. For example, I like hiit workouts sometimes but now all you hear on it is that it's bad and will make you eat more etc

    • @HannahAdkins

      I wouldn’t have enough to say for a whole video but my personal experience is that low intensity cardio like lots of walking every day combined with Pilates is what works best for me 🥰

      With nutrition there's also soo much noise everywhere😅 I'd love to be vegan but then you hear of these people who had to start eating eggs and such again because of deficiencies etc. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @poppycalliope
      @poppycalliope 3 місяці тому +2

      HIIT workouts are great as long as you do them a few times during the week. I think the key is to combine different types of movement since intense long exercise can lead to chronic inflammation. So maybe you do some HIIT, some weight training and perhaps pilates/yoga/walking. Of course you will have rest days as well which are important for muscle recovery and growth. As women we definitely need to focus on weight training too though (of course I don't mean powerlifting or bodybuilding 😅 everything in moderation 🥰)

    Really helpful video; even when you do have a “good” diet, it’s useful to sometimes see things like this and check in, think about what changes or improvements can be made etc. gentle reminders do wonders. Also very much enjoyed the Saturday morning video - nice to chill with a tea and breakfast before starting on with the weekend 😌

    Just for context: Plant based does not equal vegan, it means that it focuses on foods from plants. Being Plant based you can also eat meat and fish but much less.
