Fun fact: the lead singer, Phil Anselmo, used to be a choir singer, that's how he mastered his range. He can go super low and clearly incredibly high (that "were taking over this town" line is almost totally raw, very little mixing or polish went into the post production. They wanted as close to a raw sound as they could get while still being signed to a major record label.)
They were a great live band who appreciated their fans and money spent to see them. One show in Kansas City, security wasn’t allowing some to be near moshing further back in the outside venue. Phil saw them grabbing a kid about to throw him out and stopped the song, addressed the security and said “if you don’t get your fucking hands off of him the show is done and we’re leaving the stage, and you can deal with everyone pissed off.” It was one of the greatest things I’ve seen at a show.
I remember the first time I heard this song. My friend had just gotten the album and we cranked it in his car. This is, of course the title track. Blew me away. Still does. Peace!

I saw them play in the spring of 1995 with my girlfriend at the time, who is now my wife. I was a senior in high school, and she was a freshman in college. She only listened to country music, and this concert was technically our first date. I honestly expected her to run the other way after this concert, but to my surprise, she loved it, and we saw many great rock concerts together over the years since then.
I'm glad there are folks of the melanic persuasion who can appreciate the surging spirit of metal and the passionate infectious ballsiness it feeds off, like a synergy loop of pure inner power.

I'm glad I can say that I got to see them before it all fell apart and the brothers died. Godspeed Darrell and Vinnie.
