HIT THE BELL & TELL A FRIEND ABOUT ME
#Metallica #ForWhomTheBellTolls #LFRFAMILY
"Take a look at the sky just before you die; it's the last time you will," Best line of the song!
I love the way he pronounces the word sky. That's one of my favorite lyrics of all time the whole thing.
true, only he says He will
😁 This is what friends and I listened to right before we bungee jumped...
The drums that follow 🔥
gives me chills every time
Let me tell you something. I am 52 years old now and in the Fall of 1984 while getting super high in a 1974 Monte Carlo a friend of mine passed a cassette tape to me and said "Put this on! You are not going to believe it." We put Ride the Lightning in the cassette deck and responded with the exact same smile you did. Metallica can be life changing. In an Era of Hair Bands and key-tairs their anthems changed everything. I'm glad you liked it - that smile and head bang says it all.
G, I'm 49. Mine was Master in 86. They changed it all of for me. 🤘🏻
I'm 44 it was the black album in 91 that hooked me. Turned me into a metal fan and away from country. Now at 44 I still love Metallica but I went back to my roots
My introduction to Metallica was Am I Evil. I didn't know it was a cover and my initial mental image of the band was something akin to Venom (another "Satanic" band), but then I heard Fight Fire With Fire and Whiplash, and a few others from the first 2 albums, and soon realized they were NOT "Satanic" (but I still pictured them in Venom-esque outfits/gear, like spandex pants, spiked belts and gauntlets, no shirts, etc, lol)... then I saw a photo of the band and was surprised to see they were just 4 "kids" in denims and rock shirts, lol.
What a great time for music.
Ride the Lightning was the first I heard of Metallica. Master is dream come true!! Those two albums....
Who knew!!!
I'm only 37 and my first Metallica record was the black album, but what sold me on them being my favorite was And Just For All album, that was my favorite.
Facts: Iron Maiden gives you a history lesson and Metallica gives you a life's lesson 💯
Creeping death i think is a history lesson but i 100% feel what your saying
Iron Maiden have some pretty sick life lessons but i got you
And Megadeth tells you what the fucks really going on.
@@lucascoxe8718 Creeping Death is about a Bible story that probably never happened, but it's definitely the most badass telling of that tale!
And tool gives you life journeys.
Best Bass player, Cliff Burton on the Intro... Amazing live in Oakland video on UA-cam, mid 80s
*R. I. P. Cliff *
Yes! and unfortunately he tragically died when their tour bus crashed.
I love Ciff... Jason was no slouch though...
But.. yeah...Cliff Burton was badass...
Fr man! I could listen to his solos on Orion all day! Such a talent!
A day at the Green
I saw him play 6 weeks before he died at Monsters of Rock at RFK in DC
You're definitely the first person I've ever heard compare Metallica to Michael Jackson
ya but like.... once he said it... he's right lol. Just more distortion
Yeah vs Shamone
I saw one reaction channel dude say that Maynard of Tool sounds like Michael Jackson.
Right lmao
In fact Billie jean kinda fits... Same here, first time that I've heard saying that, but he's right 🤣
Easily my favorite Metalica song. One is their best. But this is my favorite.
Id say master of puppets is the best. But my favourite is fade to black
I’d say you both have a valid point. How hard this song comes in is classic but the build up in Fade to Black epitomizes Metallica.
@@gregblau8082 there is one thing about fade to black that just annoys me. The transition between parts. It just fades between two tracks, no build-up no connection, just a different part starts. And from people who made master od puppets, you expect great transitions.
Orion
I couldn't agree more
"The most rockinest rock stars of all rock!" I'm sure Jack Black would approve of that description.
jack who?
@@vanguard4065 you don’t know who jack black is????
They were some well-read young men. This song was inspired by a Hemingway novel of the same title.
Yes! This.
One of my all-time favorite authors.
Sitting here with my Hemingway "For Whom the Bell Tolls" t-shirt on.
And grown up with Metallica.
I was fortunate enough to see Cliff when they opened for Armored Saint in LA.
highly recommend reading the book, i did as a young fella cause of the song!
One was another. I became a Dalton Trumbo fan after reading Johnny got his gun.
and Hemingway, also very well read, took the line from a John Donne poem..."And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee".... reading truly doesn open your world up... I'm 45 and first discovered Hemingway when I was a teenager thanks to Metallica
Simple yet powerful song. This song packs a punch.
singer: James Hetfield, lead guitar: Kirk Hammett, drums: Lars Ulrich, bass: Cliff Burton (later Jason Newsted, then Robert Trujillo)
Cliff wrote it.
You're forgetting Mustane
@@Fabierien Everyone should.
@@nexusofcrisis8881 come on he wasn't bad, went on to found a pretty popular band himself did he not.
@@Fabierien amen. Dave. (&Cliff)
OMG I need a Billie Jean/For Whom the Bell Tolls remix now!
Didn't realize that the bass lines were so similar!
This song will never be the same to me again. SHMMON ! 🕺🏿🤣
Blow your mind when you realize that the initial guitar sounding riffs are actually a bass guitar with the wah wah pedal bending the hell out of those chords.
Dude. You make all the sense. I absolutely love seeing the smile hit your face when the brutal parts hit. And not just in this song, just in general. You get it and it's apparent. Love your vids man. Besides my father, James Hetfield is the reason I'm a musician today. Your channel makes me happy man. Keep it up.
The opening of zombieland
Based on the Ernest Hemingway novel, it's about the suicide mission of a soldier sent to blow up a bridge during the Spanish Civil War. In the end he sacrifices himself after having his legs blown off, as well as obliterating the horse he was riding, and faces down the enemy while his team escapes, fade to black. There's a 1943 movie starring Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman as well.
This song is a masterpiece.
This is Metal. Rock is the Stones, Gun n Roses, Beatles, Queen Aerosmith, Zeppelin .
Correct sir. Rock is more blues based
i had this argument on another channel lol after i said metallica were heavy metal .alot of ppl tried telling me but metal is a sub genre of rock , theres a huge difference between rock and metal . metal uses 2 foot bass drums , time signature is standard 4/4 like rock . but most use much higher . like 8/12 it also uses more power chords than standard . metal actually has its on sub genre's like thrash metal . celtic . hair , power , theres heaps of them . rock is actually a sub genre of blues . and if you want to go further ? lol clasic alternative . even folk . all before rock
@@durv13 yes.... but i knew no one would read all that other than me and felt going into detail about sub-genres was just too obvious and mansplaining.
I see now i was correct, Lol.
@@jdawg3629 Stones yes, GNR yes, Beatles Queen are pop bands
@@durv13 metal is objectively a subgenre of rock, rock is an umbrella term that includes just about everything that's an offshoot of it and metal is about as direct an offshoot as it gets. There can be nested subgenres
Also 8/12 isn't a time signature lol 98% of metal is in 4/4.
You ought to chek out the lyrics, too. They are as deep as the music, a lot of the time. Metallica!!!
[Instrumental Intro]
[Verse 1]
Make his fight on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On they fight, for their right, yes, but who's to say?
For a hill, men would kill, why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test their pride
Men of five still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
[Chorus]
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
[Verse 2]
Take a look to the sky just before you die
It's the last time you will
Blackened roar, massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fill his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now are his eyes to this mystery
Hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see
@@ps5392 its actually are they right, yes but who's to know
My favorite song from Metallica
Cliff Burton intro on Bass 1984 in Oakland… One ☝️ of best UA-cam videos ever in my opinion. Cliff Burton on Bass Guitar was a Beast! RIP Cliff Burton
Great parallel between MJ and Metallica. Imagine them on the stage at the same time. Atomic Bomb.
They made the bell sound by hammering an anvil. They didn’t have money for an actual bell in those days.
Actually there is an instrument they could snag from any Hugh school band that’s like chimes. It looks a wind chime but obviously it’s and instrument that would produce that exact noise.
I own an anvil because I am a bade smith. I can tell you for a fact that an evil will not ring in that low tone. It rings like I high quality sword rings.
@@joshuamonk3005 I have read they used an anvil.
@@joshuamonk3005 they used a steel sledgehammer on an anvil in a concrete room
Metallica has some of the best intros and guitar solos. Us headbands love moshin to this. Yes their intros and outros are long. But, you gotta think of the era it came from. (Things were slower back then) we weren't in the instant gratification age yet. Plus people loved the heavy guitar and drums live seeing these guys rock out was thee shit. Plus they have badges pyrotechnics to go along to the beat. So, that boom boom... boom boom...........boom boom....boom boom. Boom. Had fireworks going off to that. Just picture it. Its sick.
You were a headband?! Lol
Band away, young man, band away.
Not only Rock, this is Metal.
Metallica is rock! Great reaction.
Went to see Metallica with Guns and Roses. Went as a huge GNR fan. Left an even bigger Metallica fan because of this song. Awesome live. Jame was not playing because of arm injury. Awesome band live. The energy is insane. If you ever get they ever come within 4 hours of you. Go see them. We'll worth it.
Anouther gr8 reaction bro love this song
Ask not for whom the bell tolls it tolls for thee! This is a great tune!
I saw them in concert at RFK stadium in 86! When I lived in Rockville. I saw so many rock bands at the 930 club!

I’m glad you did this Metallica one of my top favorites along with Master Of Puppets, Fade To Black, One, Orion (instrumental masterpiece). and there’s so many other greats like “Battery”. Top album list, Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, ...And Justice For All.
Best metallica album, Ride the Lightning.
Billie Jean & For Whom the Bell Tolls - the Mashup I didn't know I needed!! 😆 But I get it, that initiative to just MOVE... 😎
my favorite Metallica song
When id hear the bells on the radio id get excited for Metallica then that 3rd one rang and my hopes came falling down. Its alright though... Hells bells isnt too bad but its not "for whom the bell tolls". 🤘
Lol same

LOL! You're on to something. Michael was always about that groove and beat...same with Metallica (especially the early albums after "Kill em All"). Love your new setup btw.
I love the Tenacious D reference, you're saying Metallica is the real thing that Tenacious D is trying to emulate. Love the content, you got my sub!
Thats a high bass line at tge very beginning of that song !! That was Cliff Burtons Style. Sick Bassist.. you should watch the live videos Calle ,, "Cliff em All " it's back in the day footage !!. Good stuff brother..
You’re so darn funny. We giggling over here….. lol ☺️😆 Metallica rules. 🤘🏼 End of story. 🎸 🔔 ⚡️
I enjoy your rock/ metal reactions. Keep them coming. Very entertaining.
I love Metallica, they helped me love metal, because the guitars can cry, scream, pound the floor and SING!
A AWSOME SONG TO WALK TO!
That's how you describe rock man.u did right
You didn't say a whole lot of nothing. Rock is a universal language left up to our own interpretation and you interpreted it perfectly. Thanks for exploring Metallica and taking us with you!
The best bit of this song is that Bass intro that everyone thinks is a lead guitar.
I was thinking high school mid 90’s😂
Off of my favorite album “Ride the Lightning”
Why is it so satisfying watching black folks listening to metal?
"I looked up!" 😂 That's James, baby!
Mad respect for you brother for enjoying the music that I grew up on and still listen too almost every day!
LOVE the reaction, and Love the Reds Cap!
I love your reactions, bro. Keep it up. This one's a nod to Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. An American covering the Spanish Civil war. 1930s i think? Great book. GREAT song!
My fave Metallica song of all time! Glad you loved it :D

I am loving the Metallica. ❤
When you said “gotta black man..” I was lmao
hahahaha... "A black man... trying to describe rock." Van you nailed it. You nailed it. Nuf said.
We played this for my uncle’s funeral
(His request)
Our family is HEAVY on Metallica and this song makes me cry everytime I hear it
Bad ass reaction bro
Ride the lightning ⚡️
Lar Ulrich said that he & James Hetfield (vocals & guitar) talked a lot about death in 1984, so Metallica's 2nd album 'Ride the Lightning' had a lot of songs about death (Even the instrumental 'The call of Ktulu' was in that theme - 'The thing that should not be' was the song based on 'Ktulu' on 'Master of Puppets') So the 8 tracks were about nuclear war, execution by electric chair, casualties of war, suicide, death by natural disaster, the biblical seven plagues... etc.
😂 nope, MJ isn't even a blip on the radar. This is metal at its best!! 🤘😝
This isnt rock but pure METAL! ;) Thanks for reaction tho', brings back 80's and 90's memories! :)
Iy's prob the best song by Metallica on my list! :)
I ❤️❤️❤️ these music reviews. I would love to see you go to a rock show! The energy & time with strangers rocking out
I started listening to Metallica in 1984, MJ never ever occurred to me with this song as many time as I’ve listened to it. Your fuckin right it’s got that vibe! Just goes to show that music is pure.
Greetings from Germany i LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
When u do the stink face appreciating the music its when u know u are a step closer to being a metal head lol
So thankfull to have been into that shit back then and getting to see it live. Unreal to watch during that epic time.
A masterpiefe and a timeless classic!
Omg your description has me howling. You are so enjoyable to watch. Cracking me up.
Love this guy
How have you never heard this before?
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 awesome mate!😎
I can honestly say I've never thought of Michael Jackson while listening to Metallica lol
One of the best opening credits for a movie 💯🤣
That's awesome seeing a brother headbang! Rock on!! The song is about the book by Earnest Hemingway called for whom the bell tolls telling about an American Professor who was recruited to lead a band of soldiers to blow a bridge in the Spanish/Italian war. The part about looking to the sky was when he was hit by shrapnel and was laying there dying but still fighting. Good book.
Love the rock thing U been on.. this song is a banger. Hit that THIIING Brah..
Lol
Born of Rock, but definitely Metal! Dio, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Iron Maiden... Metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, ETC.....(Heavy) Metal. Round here growing up we called it "Death Metal" 🤘😬
Your awesome bro.. love the breakdown
To live is to die by Metallica is a real masterpiece
Thanks for the content man.
Time marches on.
This song was played during opening credits of the movie "Zombieland." First time I heard it I thought how cool it would be if this song was in a horror movie and years later there it was.
That is the greatest intro to a movie ever, you can’t change my mind lol. 🤣

The rockiness rock of all rock...yes, it does make sense.
Metallica are metal royalty! For Whom the Bell Tolls is a song inspired by a novel of the same name written by Ernest Hemingway and first published in 1940. It tells the story of Robert Jordan, an American volunteer attached to a Republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. The protagonist is an explosives expert and he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. The story is his personal account
Yaa buddy Metal is all 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
My fave Metallica song! epic reaction dude.
The Frayed Ends of Sanity Metallica
James Hetfield on Rythm and Vocals, Kirk Hammet On lead Guitar, Cliff Burton on Bass and of course the man Larz Ulrich on Drums, looking up at the sky means you in war like in private ryan and that is what this song is about For Whom The Bell Tolls means you go off to war and die
Hey man, I hop on your channel from time to time and I just noticed the new setup. Nice!
Back growing up in the 90s When me and some of my black friends would ride and smoke I would throw in Metallica's black album and Ride the lightning and I would look over and my buddies would be head banging more than me...Great memories...
James Hetfield is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. If you don't know you better ask somebody.
The first song I learned all the instruments for lol. Probably the only one now I think about it 😅
Blitzkrieg is my favorite Metallica song. THAT is rock
I heard it explained perfectly years ago. Rock n roll comes from the hips, that's why you wear your guitar low, country comes from the heart and that's why country artists wear theirs high
Favorite band EVER! Must be the voice...no base..no drums...no lyrics...no...ALL! Even named my cat Metallicat...LOL!
Love you!! Crazy is great 👍
love the energy! :)
