- Godspeed You! Black Emperor
The Sad Mafioso (+ a drone coda just to end the show)
Live @ Troxy, London, December 14th 2010
Until now this is probably the best gy!be live video surfaced here on UA-cam, most of the other shootings are really too dark, they have low recording quality and they do not frame the single details of the band playing, such as all the guitar slidings you can see here.
The only fault I can admit is that the guy who shooted this (the user "watchgashtv" here on UA-cam) never turns his camera to the right (he was at the far left and there were too many people in the way), so that there is no chance of seeing Sophie Trudeau (the violinist) and Dave Bryant (the third guitarist) while playing, though you can hear them very well.
On the contrary there were lot of problems with the audio, since his camera didn't seem to handle the basses very well, and this is why I'm uploading the video again: I've just replaced the audio - and perfectly synchronized it - with a recording from another source, and now the video is really quite enjoyable.
Here you can find the bootleg I used as source, you can also download and listen it for free:
www.archive.org...
There is also another bootleg of the show (uploaded by the user "ZzubEvol" on archive.org), but that is very rough, I recommend you to listen this version I'm linking here since it's really very fine. So if you want to listen to the full version of East Hastings you can find it in that link, unfortunately this video documents only the second part of the song and watchgashtv told me he did not shoot the full song, he shooted just those two videos you can find here on UA-cam.
Hope you'll enjoy this,
ZissUntEtnah
I think Syd Barret would be proud of this
Absolutely!!!
smart comment 👏
My favourite piece of music, ever. I cannot put into words how much I adore this track. I've got goosebumps more times than I can count listening to this, I'm eternally thankful to every single GY!BE member and affiliate for this.
Mine as well. Through the years I always circle around to this perfect track.
+1
Mine too. Since my early adolescence.
I only discovered this music recently. But it is a MASTERPIECE. I am addicted to it extremely. I only wish I could find a one hour loop of it somewhere.
Да! Обожаю!!
I honestly don't know if I could even handle this live..
have to agree with you there.
i was at this gig, & it was incredible. had been waiting years to see them live & they did not disappoint. indescribable
The crowd is silent throughout virtually the entire thing because they are completely mesmerised by this mind blowing music...
Are you still alive😮
I was there and it was truly a special evening
God should book them to play when shit hits the fan and all. It will be epic. Hell even I'd show up if they were jamming during the rapture.
"...rapture..." ehm, are you a believer?
haha thats very cool
If your Muslim your out of luck cuz music is haram according to your prophet.
book him now
Shit just hit the fan
they are GODS of post-rock..ohh how I adore them! the music! it's heavenly man!
how can a human body contain this piece...it's so massively terrifying yet so beautiful
the real question is how tf they created this
The most epic and legendary live performance from a live band . This is what the Vikings listens to as they died in the field and as they were walking into Valhalla.
Lower my coffin whilst playing GY!BE to commend the occasion when the planet and I become one again.
Beautiful!
this is true art
They have a large barge with a radio antenna tower on it that they will charge up and discharge,
I got to see their concert at least once in a life time. OMG. This is real shit!
+Elaine Chan You should. I was actually at that gig and it was epic. My ears were bleeding with pleasure.
'28 days later' has one crazy good soundtrack!
From early 2008 until around 2015 I listened to this every day. Now I‘m almost 30 and I'm still coming back from time to time (sometimes here, sometimes for the studio version) to satisfy my melancholic streak and remember the times when everything was okay ..
Thank you GY!BE. You led me through a time in my life I'll never forget.
perfections of post rock
HOPE
Those strings are so haunting. Love it when the red tinged imagery starts ala 28 Days Later.
My dog leaves everytime i play this,..i think it is too sad for him i am not sure exactly why he went away for me it is pure joy or sorrow or just hope atlast I think he knows that too he always comes back to here to “save” me
How could anyone dislike this?
GY!BE offered such an excellent performance... so many feelings while this composition goes through time. Great atmosphere.
I'm just humbly pleased I was born in post rock times.
I love Godspeed music to death but it's not for every one. I totally understand that someone would dislike it
Such a unique peice of music. Only a small percentage of the population will appreciate this.
saw them at the same venue in 2017, utterly indescribable
4:29 I want to hear this when I get pass the gates of heaven, and the Angel guarding the gate tells me to travel down a dirt road to meet god
Awesome freakin musical genius band
this gives me goosebumps and chills. i love it.
Greatest song ever made imo
I love the sound of the drums in this version!
ORIGIN OF PERFECTION.
I was there! Not standing in the crowd, but lying on the floor in the back of the club, my eyes closed, letting pictures appear before my inner eye. And now I notice, music makes something strange to my mind, it makes me think in pictures continuously, not in words, as I normally use to.
11 years ago wow. I just saw them live and I cried. Not being hyperbolic i weeped. I've been too many shows for many bands but this was different it felt like a cleansing
Doesn't get much better than this
These sounds stab my soul in such a monumental way.
Whoever shot this video needs to know that it is huge!! a great quality video of a talented band, breathing life into my soul..... Thank you!
This music is FABULOUS !!! Only came onto it recently. Never realized this was used for the “28 Days Later” movie. The group is from Canada and so am I. Can’t get enough of this song, I’m addicted to it now. Thanks for the upload so much.
amazing every time i watch it
If you’ve ever suffered a panic attack, then you know what a Godspeed You! Black Emperor concert feels like.
but you know the conclusion is going to be GORGEOUS. whereas, you don't feel reassured by the promise of any sort of conclusion to a panic attack.
Uh, I have, I've been . and no.
You’ve obviously never had a panic attack.
It's like having one and when you pop a zan is where the song drops off lol
I did. To The Cowboy.
Jesus!, ten f'in years ago. Dam you time!!
I first heard this song on 28 days later and thought why the hell aren't there bands that make music like this. I was in love with the song and to find out not only was it a band that made the song but there is a whole genre with so many great bands was beyond words. This was the first post rock song I heard and is far from the last this music is just perfect.
Well... Thank you very much to the guy who shot this video and to the one who uploaded it.
I was not hoping to see this but here it is. And in very good quality. Closest thing to be there.
amazing quality , amazing band.
It shouldn't come at any surprise that the root notes underpinning this track are A#, F#, ad infinitum. (Although in the wrong order, I guess).
Just saw them play this in Berkeley. Incredible
I was there that night. Thanks for recording and sharing. That night changed my life.
This isnt music, this is a experience!
Just saw them in Vilnius, crazy performance and such energy that I haven't witnessed before, just 8 people creating something undescribable
was obsessed with this song since the first time I watched the film 28 Days Later...
maybe 2003 or 2004...this song has always terrified me but was always drawn to it, reminds me of how every living thing dies alone. the building paranoia towards the end...maybe 4:35 is just menacing I think. great driving music too!
sixfootcorpse the first time I heard it was in the scene when Jim walks into desert London
It was ..amazing
This is awesome! Thanks for uploading it mate!
again awesome, one of my fave songs of all time!!!
Somehow the orchestrated bit of sad mafioso sounds more haunting live.
Awesome.. I would have loved to been there .....
I hate to comment twice in a row like this but this is just too good!
Love your profile pic. King buzzo forever
i was there
MIND BLOWING
Post Rock is not a music genre, ıt's a form of art.
it's more than that This literally cannot be classified
There's something so ritualistic about their music, I can only describe it as this feeling as if you uncovered something far beyond your human perception. Fucking God bless these people
I cannot wait to see them live at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo! It'll be the first time they come here and I am just so excited to hear their musical genius show
This was the video that I watched when I first heard they were coming back. I wanted to know what to expect, especially likely songs. I later saw them live, nearly missing them (age restricted venues). It didn't prepare me. Stifling heat, thirst, standing still, elbow to elbow for hours on end, no friends to share the experience with. It didn't matter. That was a moment of pure magic. Watching this video brings back that feeling better than any other live video. Astonishing. Hearts aches of joy.
the best of the best. of the best.
Oh fuck!!!my emotion !
What exactly is being shown on the projectors it is hard to see sometimes. I can't believe I have never listened to this band, amazing music.
This would complete my life.
Astounding.
always magic !
i just learn they are at Montreal, Olympia, 1 may - i hope to see them again
Thousand Bravo! x!D
It's an honor to about this band.
Saw them live in Zagreb 10 year ago during a cold cold winter and lost days of my youth. Considering seeing them again this Sunday in London in the Forum.
Amazing!
this is fantastic!
how amazing!
Woah.. Thats IS damn good quality :0
you guys are really fantastic! what an experience live! WOW!!!
I love their unique style
Was a wicked gig
Masterpiece!
I was there..one of the best gigs of my life...at 4:36 was the highest moment of the whole show
Dette er kjempefint. Hilsen David.
I can't...I can't.
very cool and good
Brilliant
I'm dying for a live album now....
...as in the band are taper friendly.
@@BeyondFathomability But we are asking for pro recorded live mix, unless they don't like money.
@@shiveringisles3509they indeed are indifferent about money
this is art
If one song should resonnate through the void of non existance it should be that one
Это шедеврально!
Even the live song sounds real good
One time I saw them perform this and tried doing the "da-da-da-da" part but scared the shit out of the guy next to me so I stopped.
This is awesome, thank you so much
thanks mate
I love you guys
Ta for uploaing this , appreciated :)
Everything they've done ranges from good to absolutely fucking mind-blowingly genius. This album is the standout to me in an unbelievable discography. Not bad for a debut LP.
love it,
5:34. That is all.
You need to listen to the build up.
dogsarebetterthanhumans 98 you need to stop replying to five year old youtube comments.
I just got here....most of the comments on here are from 5 years ago.
Please play this live again godspeed I must see this masterpiece in perrson, everyone does.
Me too hopefully! Nine Inch Nails are two of my favorite bands and they're playing a show together. I hope I have enough money to go by then.
Can't wait i'll be there!

28 DAYS LATER
@IcyScythe Yep that's Moya. Efrim, Mauro & Moya were the original three members, so it's good to see them all onstage together.
“they were heavy boy!”
Getting chased through the woods at night your almost out of ammo your legs feel like bricks and your lungs are on fire your enemy seems like he's commin from every direction
pumped for the concert this coming tuesday in detroit
Music has no limits.
