If you can, with whatever money you have, try to see them perform this live, in person.
Waiting for them in Mexico !
Where in Mexico?
Absolutely true. I have seen them play this live twice now. There are a couple of good board recordings of it on btree also.
It's an ethereal experience
Coachella 2012 weekend 2!
This song is named after "The Butcher of Bosnia". Ratko Mladic was a Bosnian Serb general of the VRS who spearheaded horrifying genocide during the Yugoslav wars. This includes the mass execution of 8300 civilians in the Srebrenica massacre.
and the radio audio is the canadian govt attempting to suppress demonstrations during a politic national meeting.
Wow.. . crazy and sad as fuck.... I always say inow tour history
@@carthag When did this happen? Is there a source to the clip? Id love to know more
Not civillians. They were military personnel. Women and children were escorted from Srebrenica.
@@joksa969 nope... serbians raped many women and killed them. Despite the passing years, mass graves are still being discovered in the region. you can find videos on internet about this genocide.
Well, Putin just invaded Ukraine.. considering this song is named after another, angry, warmongering Slavic person, I feel this song is appropriate now, more than ever.
Literally listening this in Donetsk as another shell has detonated near my house.

You can NEVER put this on a full volume enough. I just want this track to forever violate my eardrums.
I read the comments before listening and I'm glad that I did cause I stopped the song and I'm waiting to get home to my sound system and enjoy what I imagine to be a great experience. I'll update with how I felt
UPDATE 3 MONTHS LATER: I have transcended all there is. I can smell sounds and I can count in log base 12. I exist in all points in time simultaneously, so basically I am writing the update at the same time I am writing the original comment.
Great workout track
Yes.

That's how you get tinnitus.

They're so incredible live, too.
Too bad they're leftists who's envisioned world is leading to the hellscapes of their songs
you may find that the overwhelming majority of artists are leftist
The capitalist system is leading to the hellscapes of their songs.

@@Daudlagid fucking brilliant song, that one.
Unpopular opinion: the drone at the beginning is just as good as the arabic riff in the middle. those plucking sounds are menacing, creates such an uneasy, yet perfect atmosphere.
Not unpopular at all dude! Check out Appendix Out - Ritual Ingestion Of A Yellow Rhizome...similar sorta vibe but for the whole track...
@Benjamin T thanks for this. I've always been aware of the influence but didn't know where to start.
For some reason, they remind me of the sound of ricocheting bullets.
I prefer 10 hours of that drone over the riff. Btw what is the instrument they are plucking live, not that violin but the one on the floor.
Every part of this song is important to the piece as a whole, the quieter parts are just as masterful as the explosion of guitars and drums.
ONE OF BEST PIECES OF MUSIC IN MODERN HISTORY
This is up there with Beethoven's 5th and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. Certainly one of the greatest crescendos in modern music.
"With his arms out stretched, with his arms out stretched. With his arms out stretched?" "Okay? Can you get him? Can you see him? Shoot."
Pretty pretty nine
Dronestriking?
I always figured "shoot" was like they were trying to establish visuals on someone (idk maybe in a hostage situation or something) and then couldn't find him. Never considered it could be an order to shoot someone.
@@andyz9793 I think you're right. A line of dialogue is missing in the original comment : after the double question, you can here someone answer "No". So "shoot" is more likely to be an exclamation like "damn" than an order.
@@dahoodsharmoud1676 I so, so wish we knew what htis sample was from. It could be anything

The song is called Mladic so its obviously "inspired" from the serbian genocide of the bosnians in sarajevo srebrenica etc
7:26 Yeah motherfuckers

6:40 impossible to play this riff “too loud”
My favorite part is from 08:11 to 12:40 very intense, the bass is so damn epic. One of my favoritest GY!BE songs.
Seen them live 3 times.. they're incredible! This music goes straight through your heart or you don't understand
17:52 is one of the greatest finishes to a track I have ever heard
Absolutely. It's just simply epic in every sense of the word.
There is post rock....then there is godspeed you black emporer...for me they are so pure and spiritual and I do believe god is listening to them

Ratko Mladić (Serbian Cyrillic: Ратко Младић, pronounced [râtko mlǎːdit͡ɕ]; born 12 March 1943) is a Bosnian Serb convicted war criminal and former warlord who led the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) as a general during the Yugoslav Wars.[1][2][3] He was later found guilty of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Peter Derouen Mladic fought for his country and his fellow countrymen. Good speed Mladić!
Mladic is a hero and one of the rare humane actors of that war, don't let western propaganda fool you.

It is physically imposible to play this song "too loud".
Had to ask my doctor why semen was coming out of my ear when listening to 8:11
This song was made on the day he was arrested, hence the name (at least, so I was told). Hours ago he was sentence to life, for war crimes comited in Bosnian war. Not that I needed particular excuse, but today this is blasting from my speakers turned to 11.
What a horrible, horrible, smug man. And he's still alive, the complete psychopath
The words to describe these musicians, their work, and the uneasy comfort they bring to the pit of my stomach are non existent. There's really no need for explanation or critic when you can finally feel what you are hearing.
This take on merging what is probably derived from psychedelic sound and the theme of war is so out of this world and cinematic, even after the 50th or so listen.
13:31 to 14:21... aural bliss...

This is how it feels marching through the streets of Baghdad, past midday, when the sun is at its peak spilling gluey inferno in your skull while puffing the dense and harsh dust of years of wars and conflicts breathing through dry cracks of the ground you step in rapturous vertigo till you collapse in post-orgasmic delirium disorder. I love this song so much... dammit.
+illmatc Yes but is the song about Ratko Mladić(c), so its more like a war hornes...
Dude, we have exactly the same imagination concerning this song. Except for the collapse. But yes it's a sad story. And violent.
The only question that haungths me is how much more cut dicks I could have shot... ten, hundred?
That fucking build up.
THE BEST GY!BE SONG TO EVER EXIST. IM LITERALLY LOSING MY MIND LISTENING TO THIS RIGHT NOW AND I'VE HEARD FOR YEARS NOW!!!!
second most favourite gy!be song next to moya, just listening to that build up and amazing guitar sequence makes it feel like going through intense war in the battlefield
Bosnia??..
Kaden Clancy Best comment! Moya is the best and this is the second.
People are still commenting about removal of kebab. But better not listen this band. As a Turk born in Balkans i love both Bosnia and Serbia. All Balkans we enjoy the same we listen the same, we dance and laugh the same. Better not fight eachothers. Balkans are our homeland.
Holy
Dude this is fucking "Albania" VERBATIM! I was listening to this ten years ago. Don't believe me fucking look it up. They must be trying to bring it back to life with another generation. Why else would they release old material as if it's new? This IS "albania". Check it out now and see. That whole middle eastern riff which is the entire crescendo was written YEARS ago! Though I don't blame them. GSYBE has been amazing for several years over a decade now... Check out 28 days later. "East Hastings". Still their best song. I promise. Thank me later...
They played it live pre-hiatus under the title Albania, but never released it. Once they started playing and recording again they recorded this and another unreleased song they used to play live before going on hiatus (that other song was called Gamelan then, but it's now known as We Drift Like Worried Fire).
Everyone knows this - there's no need to act like you're made some amazing discovery, because you really haven't. This information is on the Wikipedia page for 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!, and is mentioned in plenty of reviews of the album. It's common knowledge.
They're not re-releasing old material, they're recording and releasing unreleased material they didn't get a chance to release before going on hiatus.
Sdakouls3 Dude, it was a natural reaction to hearing a track I've loved for YEARS and saying "wow I know this"! That simple.
And no, not "everybody knows this"... Christ, fucking Wiki geniuses.
But whatever. You win. Not that it was ever a contest...
Hell maybe I'm being the uptight one right now. I'm too distracted for this shit...

Cool.
It'll always be Albania to me, I've had this on a live bootleg album for years, was so happy that they released it on a proper album!
Walking through the old streets of Lahore with this song playing through your headphones is an experience.
Okay I'm gonna pay a visit to androon now just to experience it myself.

the title means "young man" in serbian, but it could also be referring to Ratko Mladic, a serbian general who ordered the killing of Bosniaks.
almost certainly a reference to the latter
Allegedly, it was either composed or released the day Ratko Mladic was arrested.
@@nottherealpaulsmith There's bootlegs of Godspeed performing an earlier version of the track pre-hiatus in like 2003 so that can't be true

Also, of course, Americans will be Americans, acting imperialist everywhere they can.

THIS IS NOT A BAND, THIS A NEW INTIFADA.
Yesterday, Mladic was finally convicted of organizing the Bosnian Muslim genocide, a sincere apology to our friends in Bosnia for supporting the Serbs during this period. This does not mean that the bombing of Serb civilians is not a crime against humanity and should have been condemned as well. peace in the whole world. dimi from Athens.

One of the few songs you can come back to and it gives you the same thrill every single time.
People of the world need to get together and just stop having this concept of "others". We are all from a small family of humans who got slightly diversified because of longitudes. We don't have to fight for resources and kill each other. We need to use only WE. There is only WE, no THEM. Love each other, help each other, understand each other. All this religion, nation lines, skin color, politics is used for divisive purposes. The Internet is uniting the human family again.

Arabic notes + slow tempo = Deep Stoner Rock ! epic song !
Adyman182 It's got what some people would call a "Middle-Eastern" vibe going on. Especially the riff at 8:50.
Adyman182 well if you say Middle East you are basically talking about Arabic Zone ! and if you search for some arabic scales it will sound just as deep and mysterious !
Post-rock
It's called the Phrygian dominant scale. It's used in a lot of Arabic, Balkan, Jewish, and gypsy music.
The hole musical scale is arabic, you love it or not =))
if I were ever the villain in a series, this would be my theme music.
Late night scrolling got me to this point, and I must say, I'm glad that the rabbit hole went deeper...
Music is not dead
I totally agree, they describe more things than before, but without being boring, I like their new style .Anyway, this is so good to hear them again ! I don't know if you guys knows about GRAILS, they are a great similar band; I suggest you to hear their song "soft temple" or "I led three lives" or anything else, you may love them if you like this song :)
Could I please have 13:31-14:20 for all of neverending eternity please? Thx a bunch
I just keep listening to this over and over...
In 100 years I wonder how this music will be seen (if at all), theres always been a beautiful niche of post rock instrumentals that sound closer to classical music than grunge. It's a piece not a song I guess is my point here
I suspect Godspeed will be appreciated by outsiders who like loud, weird music and will just be obscure to anyone else. They don't deserve to be forgotten but will probably end up being a footnote in the history of rock music.
this band makes love to me.
My guess is that the band re-named the song to Mladic to make a statement...... And to remind people of what happened 20 years ago. I could be wrong though......
"Wth his arms outstretched, with his arms outstretched...do you see him, can you get him...?"
You will never forget the first time you heard 14:47
