Erik/Magneto tried, he really tried coexisting with humans. He saved one of his coworker's life without even thinking about it and they paid him by calling the cops who killed his family hours later. I don't justify what he did afterwards, but he has every reason to be pissed off with them.
Michael Fassbender did an excellent job portraying this character.
I always find it interesting when people don't like him.

Fassbender is absolutely amazing. Even in Dark Phoenix, where nobody even tries (and Lawrence is just terrible), Fassbender does his best.
Magneto has always been my favourite character. I love the truth in his statement to Charles. “Make peace with the humans?”. “They can’t even make peace with themselves”.
Yeah, it sucks that he thinks Erik only as asshole in this movie
Yeah, Quicksilver is THE showstealer. So OP, if only they had the idea to combine both him and Nightcrawler (the other showstealer) into a single scene together. It would’ve pleased so many fans

Man, casting Oscar Isaac as this epic villain was really exciting... until the movie started getting made. He expressed his disappointments about the experience as well. But at least it didn't sour him enough to stay away from jumping onboard Moon Knight years later, cause he's great in that.
He got CBM redemption as both hero (Moon Knight) and villain (Miguel)
I feel a much more fitting actor would've been Dennis Haysbert, who played President David Palmer from 24, as well as ironically, God from Lucifer. With his height and booming voice, I could totally see him as En Saba Nur/Apocalypse.

Usually quicksilver and Scarlett witch are both the children of magneto, but since the MCU only had limited rights to those two characters, and couldn’t reference X-men or mutants, they just didn’t include that in the MCU
In the comics, Apocalypse also had several powers, but the reason he has several powers is because of his original mutation: the ability to manipulate his own body at a subatomic level to do whatever he wants, and when I say whatever he wants I mean LITERALLY whatever he wants; he can turn himself into any material, levitate, control the size and resistance from his members, gigantify, he can even manipulate the structure of his own X-gene to create new powers for himself, like telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, energy manipulation, force field generation, beyond many other powers that I won't bother to mention

Tons of those powers had nothing to do with his original mutation. He happened upon an alien ship with technology that was eons beyond human understanding. I would say more than half of his power comes from that technology the he partially incorporated into himself. He is still powerful without it, but no where near the level.

And for the MCU fans unfamiliar with comics yes that's *the* Celestials from the Eternals movie. Except he didn't just stumble across it: the Celestials gifted Apocalypse with their technology as part of their grand plan.
Another one for the MCU fans: Apocalypse began life as a Bedouin nomad in ancient Egyptian times (well, the nomads that became the Bedouins thousands of years later, hence En Sabah Nur being in an ancient dialect of afro-asiatic proto-arabic and not the kushtic language of the Egyptians) and became a slave of none other than Pharoah Rama-Tut (yes, that is the Rama-Tut who is a.younger version of Kang the Comqueror).

In the movie, his origin story is completely diferent, instead of body manipulation, they made the original power to be transfer of consciousness
The reason he has several powers in the film is because over the years he transferred his own consciousness into the bodies of countless mutants, by doing this he not only lived much longer but also retained the powers of the mutants whose bodies he possessed
I don't know if Peter telling Magneto he's son would have helped. Magneto might have just thought that it was some kind of ploy to make him stop by playing on his emotions from the loss of his wife and daughter by introducing a son. I think what they did was the best thing the could do

It's always felt to me by the way Erik locks eyes with Pietro, and the context of the conversation, that Magneto knows. Notice we don't see Wanda in any X-MEN movies, even though she's been mentioned, just not by name. Imagine a movie of Scarlet Witch and Dark Phoenix. Laaawwwd!

Want other family connection twist? In the comics, Nightcrawler is Raven's son. They easily could've alluded to that here (she was off on her own after leaving Eric for a LONG time). That would've added something interesting to their dynamic in this movie, but I guess they wanted to just stick with the Eric and Peter thing, but they didn't even give us a payoff.

Essex Corp. is a reference to Nathaniel Essex, the supervillain more commonly known as "Mister Sinister". He was initially rumored to be the main antagonist in Logan until director James Mangold confirmed that Mister Sinister would not be appearing in the film. According to Simon Kinberg, the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse is directly connected to the events of Logan.
That KINDA tracks, the blood sample taken could have been overtly used in the Sinister version (if there ever was that idea in play to begin with) to make the clones we see.
Essex House also was in Deadpool 2, they were the people who tortured Firefist
Mister sinister was gonna be the new big bad villain, the cancelled gambit movie was also gonna be connected to him before the Disney getting the rights from fox to use X men in the MCU
Fun fact: this is the first and only time that we ever saw Magneto using his magnetic force field in the films. In most other media, such as X-Men: The Animated Series, its one of Magneto's most famous ability. His force-fields are powerful enough to stop almost anything and he's able to survive in space with it. One of my biggest issues with the films was them never showing Magneto using them until this movie. He hasn't done it before or since then. Would love to see him do it more often in live action one day!

So, in the comics, Charles and Moira do get together and have a kid. The kid is.... MEGA powerful. They call him a "world breaker". His name was "Legion" because he had multiple personalities, and each one had different powers. There was a TV show based just on him. Weird as hell, because a lot of it is in his head and you see what he sees. Plus, Aubrey Plaza is amazing.

I think calling Magneto a “scumbag” is strong, considering his past is a litany of trauma, suffering and loss.
Let’s be honest, Xavier lived a life of privilege and luxury from day one, it’s easier for him to be a good guy. Yeah, he lost stuff along the way but never to the extent that Eric did.
He still murdered dozens of civilians in cold blood. Making him a scumbag.

I was honestly surprised at the response to this movie. While I don’t think it was as good as its two predecessors, I didn’t think it was the trainwreck people made it out to be. It was a solid entry in its own right.
I'm surprised to see people like this now as much as they do, it's 5 out of 10 at best and that's only because of one scene. Mind you my scale goes from 1-trainwreck 5-Meh, watchable if nothing else, 10-timeless masterpiece. Guess that's how opinions work.
Honestly the biggest issue is the depiction of one of Marvel's iconic villains in Apocalypse. It just wasn't at ALL what we wanted in seeing apocalypse imagined on screen

If I had grown up watching more 90s xmen as a kid Id probably have a different view, but it was always on like 30 minutes after my bedtime growing up so I missed that appeal lmao

It's just that for those of us who did enjoy apocalypse either in the comics or through the timeless epic 90s cartoon, this version of Apocalypse just left sooooo much to be desired. Huge let down. I remember coming out of the theatre for this one just massively disappointed with the direction they decided to go with him.
The comparison to Thanos is quite relevant in the sense that this villain should not have been a 1 and done. There's so much weight to the character that just isn't translated on screen. The third act just falls apart and fails the movie as well in my opinion. Archangel also not done justice.
That being said I wouldn't call this film a dumpster fire by any means. Just has flaws. Some quite larger than others.
Apocalypse just needs a proper arc. He's such a massive villain.
@@tphil5901While I'm usually against multi-part movies, perhaps Apocalypse should have carried over into Dark Phoenix. That way there's more of a payoff when Jean unlocks Phoenix to finally bring down En Sabah Nur. And that way maybe Dark Phoenix wouldn't have killed the franchise for the second time, possibly intentionally.
Hammy 90s Apocalypse just would not work here though, any more than hammy 90s Thanos would have.
Honestly, I think some of the later x men movies have weaker narratives, but the action sequences are pretty awesome, the Pheonix movie everyone always hates on has a couple of my favorite combat sequences from any of the x men movies… glad to see you’re going in sort of blind and enjoying them!
Pheonix was a good movie if you loved the cartoon & comics. X-men 3 with her dark phoenix was terrible, the new one is much better and even brings in aliens- which were a huge part of the dark phoenix plot and one with Charles after that.
@@Rabidpygmy But it was going to be so much more! Entertainment Weekly had such cool concepts that were scrapped as soon as Captain Marvel was released. All because the producers felt the characters were too similar.
I keep telling anyone who will listen that if they want people to go to an x-men movie and they want it to feel modern while staying true to the comics they should totally do a one-off adventure in space with an already formed x-men, let them crash-land on the brood planet and show them trying to survive, old and new fans would probably love it... Outer space and aliens were a huge part of the x-men in the comics.@@Rabidpygmy

I personally love this movie, and not just because of Evan Peters. Though a lot is because of him. Wandavision did it right!
I think the reason so many x-men fans like myself didn't like this as much as the others, is because we know and love Apocalypse as one of the great x-men villains and they did a terrible job at representing him. Just like I hated the version of Doomsday in the justice league movie, I hated this version of Apocalypse.

I just love all the X-Men Movies, dunno what people don't like about them. You totally reflected myself when I watched it myself for the first time :D
1. Oscar Isaac is the only actor in every movie marvel universe. He is in the MCU as Moon Knight. He is in the Fox Universe as Apocalypse. He is in the Sony Universe as Spiderman 2099. I think that speaks as to how good of an actor he is that he was sought out in every universe.
2. You posed the question as to who would win in a fight, Avengers or X-Men? It all depends who is on each team. If Wanda is an Avenger, she solos every mutant there is. She did exactly that in the comics in House of M. Her most iconic line, and one of the stories most fans want on screen, is 'No more mutants.' Sis changed reality so that mutants don't exist. People put her up against the Phoenix Force in Jean Grey, but death battle showed already that Scarlet Witch wins that battle.
3. I think I mentioned this in a previous comment, but Magneto is the father of Wanda and Pietro (Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver), and Mystique is the mother of Nightcrawler (in the comics).
4. I do not think that this is the worse X-Men movie. That title goes to Dark Phoenix. I think it would have been great if not for Captain Marvel coming out. In Dark Phoenix, skrulls were going to be the main villain however, because marvel used them in Captain Marvel, it threw off Fox because they couldn't use them now. This caused this to go through production hell and it was horrible.
2. Wanda can be taken out from behind with a rock, she has normal human strength. Anyone who can't take a bullet if a hazard. It all would of course depend on situation but Avengers are far superior in strength. I don't think anyone can even knock out Hulk(in a fair world, well maybe Thanos and similar), or Thor.. Vision is invincible imo, MCU just f**ked with him for story. Oh yea, Professor X, is any Avenger immune to him? Phoenix Jean vs Scarlet? No way Jean could lose, Phoenix is one of the strongest forces in universe and Scarlet Witch barely does know how to use her powers, unless she's learned to use them after the 90's.. but not in my canon. What's that death battle lol, i found it on UA-cam, gotta check it, thanks for tip. I'm not counting that shit in thought.. Edit. Okay that show is something totally else.
4. Yea Dark Phoenix is worst and Apocalypse has to take the second worst place. Wolverine's movie isn't very popular but i like it, except the Silver Samurai.
The reasons the timelines are so messed up is because originally First Class was a total reboot. Then they decided to try to merge the two series, for some reason, and the continuity just didn't make sense but they just went with it.
It’s a soft reboot, not a total one. The First Class shot by shot recreated the first X-Men’s first scene.
It's Oscar Isaac's world & we're just living in it! Apocalypse, Moon Knight, & Spider-Man 2099! His performance of these characters have been absolutely amazing!!!

No that was definitely a fragmen of the Phoenix.
Jean wasn't powerful at all in the comics before the Phoenix and she definitely did not have pyrokenesis. All she had was mind control and telekinesis.
Even still this is just a fragment of a locked away Phoenix and it's full potential

fly around the universes in seconds, she doesn’t need teleportation or telekinesis from move to one place to another like Wanda, has self resurrection, she has a psychic syphoning that drains psychic energy that drains the psychic energy that drained the energy from Galactus, her illusions are so powerful that it took 3 days to find a flaw in her mind escape , she send her and Wolverine subconscious through time, she absorbed an optic blasts from Cyclops who that could destroy universes, she went toe to toe with the Celestial, she is a doctor and master tactical, she beat many many of ninjas, she can activate and deactivate mutants power, she can absorb black holes, she can create cosmic weather including black holes, , the Phoenix fire can burn souls, she can turn invisible, The post credit scene where you saw Essex Corp is directly connected to the movie Logan that you already watched. I think it was a blood sample of Wolverine/Logan or any other mutants since Essex corp is an organization that collects genetic materials of mutants, hence the blood sample. Essex corp was also shown in Deadpool 2.

As someone from Poland I laughed so hard during every magneto scene at the begining of the movie. Polish accents in this movie are really bad, and yes our "Magneto" sounds a little bit dumb 😅

Watching Apocalypse gave me that same feeling, seeing ALOT of characters from the cartoons.
Apocalypse in this movie was disappointing to X-Men comics fans who knew the villain. In the comics he's much larger. In the X-Men cartoon he has a hell of a deep, gravely voice. It's awesome! But Oscar Isaac was too short and they made his voice to smooth or soothing.
The end credits scene with the Essex Corp reveal on the briefcase was alluding to another great X-Men villain named Mr Sinister. Whose real name is Nathanial Essex. They never got around to getting him in any of the Sony X-Men movies, though. At one time, John Hamm was rumored to have been cast. There are technically two versions of Mr Sinister. When he debuted back in the 80's he was an caniving, scheming mad geneticist whose goal was to guide mutantkind to the pinnacle of their evolution through breeding and experimentation. A bit different from Apocalypse' goal of 'Survival of the Fittest' but similar. They even revealed in Sinister's backstory that Apocalypse gave Sinister his power back in the 1800's.
In the newer version of Sinister, he's more of a comical sort who has schemes and mechanizations going on. I don't like the newer version much.
I'll be interested to see how the MCU does him.

btw, according to the creator, Quicksilver run speed is only 175mph(ofc other "authors" have later buffed him), no where near anything his DC counterpart The Flash can do, but here is it running back and forth, empty a house during an explosion. C4 is what badguys always use in movies, C4 explode at 26,400 feet per second or 18 000mph(~29 000kmh). Quicksilver is making 18 000mph here stand still, to him it is like what 5 minutes? So is he moving 7 920 000 fps(5 400 000mph) or faster? As the explosion was barely moving

i think people get way to invested in these movies, i really enjoy them all as standalones. people getting triggered by missing details or perceived plot twists, its entertainment in the end, just enjoy them

The easy thing to remember about this timeline is that the original films don't really matter because they were retconned with Days of Future Past. But First Class took place in the 60's, Days of Future Past the 70's, this is in the 80's and Dark Phoenix will be in the 90's. However the funniest part is that the original X-Men movie took place in 2000...so between now and then, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have to age enough to become Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen...when 30+ years passes between these movies and they barely age at all. These were the kinds of things Fox got criticized for.

I never did understand how a piece of cloth or even really thin eyelids stopped cyclops from beaming everything. My favorite was Gambit. I loved him in the 92-94 series
His eyelids stopped the energy because they were part of his mutation. The same way havoc's energy didn't burn his skin as it exited his body or Peter's super speed doesn't kill him with the friction build up. The cloth coverings kept pads in place that prevented his eyelids from opening on their own so he didn't have to continually think about keeping them closed. Edit: If his eye lids didn't stop them he wouldn't have survived his powers through either just pure exhaustion from lack of sleep or the destruction of everything he interacted with since his eyes continually discharged the beams.
Also keep in mind those beams are concussive not hot at all. That was explained in the comics and 90s animated show

If I remember correctly, because this movie underperformed Fox decided to hold off introducing the character and plans for the sequel shifted into Dark Phoenix. The blood sample they took sets up events in Logan, Essex Corp is referenced in Deadpool 2, and Mr Sinister is implied to be behind things in The New Mutants, but Disney bought Fox and ended the series before we actually got to see him.

When I was in high school me and my friends called each other the four. We loved comics and we all had our own nicknames. I was Apocalypse and while this movie wasn't incredible I did enjoy seeing Apoc in live action.

If you were a fan of X-Men growing up AND a fan of Apocalypse as a villain, you'd understand why this movie is so hated.
PS: Just imagine if Thanos was Josh Brolin in purple makeup wearing human sized armor. That's how I feel about this version of Apocalypse.

I've been a fan of Xmen since I first picked them off the shelf when I was 13 yo. And I've appreciated the villain Apocalypse since I learned about his secret manipulations throughout the comics.
I had no issues with this portrayal of Apocalypse. I really enjoyed his monologue while dispersing the missles to orbit. (Which is something Magneto did in the comics).
And, while I can understand the hate towards this plot line, as a fan, I do actually see the symbiosis of multiple storyline into this film concept. And other than the final destruction of big A at the end, I felt the film left several storyline plots to progress through, including Age of Apocalypse, even if it's via time jumps, like Deadpool.
The movie is underrated.
I agree with you. The only redeeming scenes in this movie were the ones with Quicksilver doing his thing. Everything else was dog shit. They didn't respect the source material at all.

This was definitely one of the worst X Men movies for sure. It destroys a lot of the timeline, its really inaccurate to the comics/characters, and its very forgettable. They also reuse a lot of the same mutants over and over again when there's tons more that they don't use. And while its not necessarily a bad thing for some, the issue is that many of the ones they do use over and over again they don't get right. Cyclops and Storm are just a couple that are pretty lackluster compared to how they are in the comics. And in my opinion they've used Mystique way too much in these movies.

13:51 There was a comic on this but I don't remember if there was a winner or not. So its hard to say. Many of the X Men are on the Avengers team, and not all mutants are X Men. There's characters on both sides who aren't in the movies that are stupid powerful too. If we're going with core members for the most part then its hard to say but I'm gonna lean Avengers. Its a tough call and I wouldn't be mad at anyone who picks the X Men cause there's a lot of powerful mutants. But Thor, Hulk, and Scarlet Witch (well Scarlett Witch is a mutant but she's not really an X Men like that either) are each powerful enough to solo the X Men team and have a chance at winning. Hulk has already done it in the comics. It's hard to beat someone after all who could literally blow up the planet at any moment if you piss him off too much. If we're specifically talking about the movies then its still hard to say. The Avengers have a lot more people on their side, and they have a lot more tech and powers. They also have the smarter characters on their side. The only threat to them would be any telepaths or speedsters. But I think the sheer amount of numbers would give them the win. Plus they got Scarlett Witch and Dr Strange to stop them.
0:55 It jumps around in timelines true but honestly thats not what really makes them so jacked up.😂Its the fact that when you look at many of the last X Men movies that came out, they actually mess up the timeline to the point where it either contradicts certain events or it leaves plotholes. It would be different if they jumped around in the timeline but didn't mess with already established events, but they didn't do that. As good as Days of Future Past was, I'm not even sure if the events of the previous x men movies are still canon after that one. In fact I'm sure it did change events cause Angel, the mutant with the wings, is in this movie and this takes place in the early 80s. He looks like he's already nearly an adult if not already which doesn't line up with the Angel that appeared in X Men 3. Wolverine also shows up here and he meets Jean and Cyclops which never happened. They already show what happened in X Men Origins Wolverine. And Mystique is a X Men now after this movie, which never happened either, and is a lil weird. Thats part of the reason why I feel they used her too much in the movies.

Not really. Most of the criticisms against X-Men: Apocalypse are pretty accurate. Which is that the storytelling is disjointed, the pacing is too slow (it takes two hours for the apocalypse to happen and it's only shown in a few short clips), the production value is subpar, and the characterization makes no sense. For example: Xavier doesn't form the X-Men like he promised Wolverine and he lets Wolverine get capture by Weapon X despite knowing what will happen in the future.

Trust me, it's easier to vacuum up bullet shells, and bullets for that matter. It's a pain to sweep them up.
I used to go to a local gun range, and each time one of the ones who went there had to clean up the bullet shells, and I had to do that a few times. It was way easier, and faster to just vacuum them up than to sweep them up.
