  • Check out my new hammock!
After breaking my tooth and a long work week, I decided to take my boy on a mother \ son camping trip to Mcclains State Park in Northern Upper Michigan. We really enjoy swimming in the pristine waters of Lake Superior.

If you get a 2-3 foot section of 1/4 inch silicone tubing at the hardware store- it makes a great fire starting tool. You can blow through the tube and direct it to the exact spot that needs air. Since it's silicone, it won't melt, or get hot. I carry a couple in the vehicle at all times. Sharing is caring! :)

Almost always in Michigan... anywhere there are trees... hammock. Not even a competition.

Another lovely camp video from the Yoop. Thanks for sharing. Bummer on the broken tooth and the way life sometimes seems to pile it on! They say "when rains it pours," but by the same token things can turn sunny just as fast! Hang in there. 😎

So true! It's all in how you look at it. I'm glad that my tooth did hang on as long as it did and wasn't terribly painful.

Nice to see some videos about areas in the UP. My wife and I are in the process of moving to Newberry, so this gives us some ideas on places to go.
We took a drive up to Pretty Lake yesterday, and are going to do a day hike on some of the trails there on Sunday, check out some camping areas.

Have you tried Merwin creek campground? Nice little rustic camping! It's right on the manistique River.

@@Gypsytrekker well if you like cowboy camping it feels a bit closer to that while still having some shelter. Bring a headnet!

I would never camp in a hammock. 1. No dogs, always need dogs. 2. Can't cook in the rain. 3. Takes longer to set up. 4. You always need trees. 5. No sleeping partners. 6. Colder than a tent.

I think for most of these points I would say that where there's a will, there's a way lol..

Hammock always because most of your points in my opinion in my experience I should say I wrong. When I hammock Camp I actually use an oversized tarp and it's the first thing I set up. This allows me to do all the rest of the work I need to do Andre Tire in out of the rain if applicable. And I say you can't cook under a tarp is just super funny to me LOL! It's way easier to chill and your hammock as a seat and cook under your tarp enlisted cooking a tiny vestibule in my humble opinion. Sure a hammock takes a little longer to set up but once it's set up it's way better than a tent in most conditions. Where I do prefer a tent is in the cold winter and I mean cold Northern Michigan winter. Your tarp over your hammock can be set up in a multitude of ways to keep you perfectly dry and give you plenty of room for your gear and cooking if you do it right. Hope you don't think I'm kind of disrespect because all I'm really trying to do is give you different give you a different perspective and hopefully you will look into it and pick up when I'm laying down.
