Kayaking and Hiking on a Remote Island with Wolves and Moose | Isle Royale
Isle Royale Adventure: From Houghton to Rock Harbor 🚢🌲
Join me on an unforgettable voyage across Lake Superior as we embark on the Ranger III ferry from Houghton to Isle Royale National Park! 🌅 Our journey unfolds with breathtaking vistas, cultural celebrations, and natural wonders:
Mott Island Trail: After landing on Mott Island, we lace up our hiking boots and explore the Mott Island Trail. Traverse lush forests, catch glimpses of wildlife, and breathe in the fresh island air. 🌿
Kayaking to Cemetery Island: Paddling our kayaks, we glide through crystal-clear waters to reach Cemetery Island. Discover hidden coves, rocky shores, and the serenity of Lake Superior. 🚣‍♂️
Flag Raising Ceremony: At Rock Harbor, we witness a moving flag-raising ceremony by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. The rhythmic beat of drums and soulful singing of the Stone Bridge Singers fill the air-a moment of unity and respect. 🌟
Edisen Fishery Exploration: Our boat ride takes us to Edisen Fishery, where we learn about sustainable fishing practices and the rich history of this island community. 🎣
Rock Harbor Lighthouse: Finally, we visit the iconic Rock Harbor Lighthouse, standing tall against the rugged shoreline. Its beacon guides ships and spirits alike. 🗼

    You were probably bitten by a small spider and it can be very painful. CVS and Amazon have a topical benadryl salve that works quite well. Walmart carries a good mosquito repellant that doesn't contain Deet. Can't remember the brand name but it works. After forgetting something every time I camped, I finally made a checklist and keep it in a backpack that I use for camping. As long as I remember the backpack I'm good to go!

    How were the road conditions to Keystone Bay compared to High Rock Bay when you went last year? Did you see signs to Keystone Bay from Mandon Rd or did you have to use an offline map app to get there? Think a person with a Subaru Outback can get to Keystone Bay?

    • @Gypsytrekker
      @Gypsytrekker 11 днів тому

      I'm sorry that Im just seeing your comment. The road to Keystone last year was definitely passable for an Outback. There were some big dips but they were not mucky, just had to go slow to keep from bottoming out. We were very surprised to see just a regular passenger car make it's way out with no problem. There were not signs telling you where to turn to Keystone and we ended up going the wrong way for a bit until it dead ended. We haven't been out there this year and have had quite a bit of rain, so my concern might be how high the crossing is at the beaver dam more than anything.

    Hi gypsy, I plan on camping in the U.P. this summer (I'm a troll). Where was that pool with the steam room? Was that a Big Erick's campground? There was a really cool campsite I seen last year while visiting my brother in Marquette. Looked like it was on the side of a ski resort and they had mountain biking. I wasn't into camping then I'm returning to check out the mountain bike trails. I think it was on 553. Anyways have you tried the mountain bike trails? Any good? Thanks for the video.

    I'm not thrilled with the required reservations. I understand the need for it, to a degree. I do a lot of camping via kayak along the shore of Lake Superior. The weather can decide for me what are paddling days and when I will get to my next destination. A few years ago I paddled from Whitefish Bay to Au Train. I chose to do it in early June so that, hopefully, there would be open sites even though I didn't have reservations. I needed reservations in Pictured Rocks and made reservations for a site for two nights, hoping that I would get there one of those two nights and that the weather wouldn't cause me to miss my reservation. I paid for two nights , knowing that I would only use one. The disappointing thing was when I got there and someone was in site #x and I asked them what site number it was they said "It was the first one we found". So obviously they didn't have a reservation... Last summer I stayed at several state parks on an early June trip and found room each time. Some of the sites weren't ideal, but I had a place to set up my tent as I paddled from Wisconsin to Au Train.

    • @Gypsytrekker
      @Gypsytrekker 4 місяці тому

      Oof, yeah that sounds annoying! Did the other people leave your site once you told them it was reserved? I know I need to do more research about where exactly dispersed camping is allowed in certain areas. I'm always worried that I'll be all set up for the night and then get told to leave.
