- tennessee babe sung by Ken Curtis ( captain Dickinson) and Joan O'Brien ( miss. Dickinson ) in the birthday's Lisa scene, accompanied by Dimitri Tiomkin's orchestra. Very rare. Previously Unreleased.
"Tennessee babe with a sweet sounding name,
Dear little rose of the south,
You are so sweet that the neighbors all claim
Sugar won’t melt in your mouth.
Oh Lisa, our Lisa !
Dear little rose of the south…
Oh Lisa, sweet Lisa !
Sugar won’t melt in your mouth !"
Wow..sooo sweet and beautiful very beautiful💖
I sing this as my sons lullaby ❤️
Magnificent my dear dolcebimbp ! I have all the versions of this for me fantastic soundtrack since I went to this cinema here in France in 1961 to see The Alamo. I was overwhelmed with chills when I heard these opening bars of the Deguello followed by The Green Leaves of Summer theme. What an experience. Didn't even know this did exist, a studio version of Tennesse Babe by Ken Curtis and Joan O' Brien. Fantastic ! So many thanks to you. UA-cam is really extraordinary...
I remember seeing the road show release of this movie when I was a boy. I had the soundtrack LP and always loved this song. When the movie was shown on TCM recently I watched it again, hoping they had restored this scene, but was very disappointed. It is lovely to hear the song again here. I did not remember Ken Curtis had sung it or had such a great voice.
you can see him singing at the minute 6:48 of this video

sad story:
"the only remaining example of the ‘roadshow’ is a long-faded 70mm print, which was in superb condition when discovered in Toronto in 1992, but then, after being moved to Los Angeles, was taken from its cold storage resting place, and rejuvenated and mishandled toward the production of home video elements.
“ the Toronto print was re-located in 2001 and had MGM move it to cold storage, but the majority of damage had already been done, as it had been stored as a miscellaneous print, after MGM’s mishandling."
my pride is to have ricreated the "here's to the ladies"-frank avalon movie version
