NEVER FORGET: The Devil WORKS FOR God. That means that the "most evil" entity is still considered as being above YOU, despite his continued wrong-doings, as he has God's blessing to do so "within (by God's decision as always) reasom"
If you're a billionaire you would probably be funding lobbies for both "god" and "satan" to allow you to continue poisoning the political (and literal) climate
I remember a time that someone called atheists arrogant and I told them "you literally think the two most powerful beings in existence don't do anything other than constantly fight over you"
Good one! My go-to has often been: "Wait a minute. We believe that we're the product of unconscious forces, yet you believe that you're specially created by, none less than, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦, who loves you so much that it wants to furnish you with 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶!!! But WE'RE the arrogant ones?!?!" Yours is punchier, though.
Or just: you believe that you of all people are correct over the other 7 billion other people that believe something different than you. You believe that your "faith" in a thing for which you have no direct evidence is somehow greater than the combined scientific knowledge of all of humanity. Those are pretty good ones, I think. I thought of one more: they actually believe they they have all the keys to eternal happiness and that only their way will bear fruit over every possibility that might exist. They think that everyone should want their version of eternity and would want to spend eternity with their company. That the vast majority of Earth's population is condemned to hell for not following their own model, so they wouldn't be likely to have family there anyway. Why would anyone else even hope they are right? They don't consider these things. They won't even attempt to answer these kinds of questions either.

Yeah, the more you learn about the history of religion, the more fictional it is. Like the snake in the Garden. It was basically just a fairy tale to explain why snakes have no legs and why humans seem to think differently from other animals. (even though we really don't to a meaningful degree) Like the Native Americans have a story on why bears don't have tails. It's something like a bear was ice fishing with its tail and left it in the ice so long that its tail broke off and that's why bears don't have tails. It's basically that story except for snakes. Also, it gives an excuse for women to be slaves of men since religions were often very cruel to women as a way to keep them down. You also see tropes that were common back then, like magical fruit giving gods their powers. Back then, gods were more like humans who just ate magical fruit and turned into gods because of it. That's why you have the fruit of immortality and fruit of knowledge.
Of coarse they dilslike free thinking. Slave owners forced Christianity onto black people in order to make them easier to control. Christianity was never part of black culture until then. Your family are victims of religious evil passed down generations.
I'm Jewish and speak Hebrew. The character in genesis that lead Adam and Eve astray was called נחש in Hebrew, or transliterated into the Latin alphabet "Nachash", which literally is just the Hebrew word for snake. Judaism came from ancient Canaanite religion, which was influenced by ancient Egyptian, Greek, Mesopotamian, and Persian religions which came before it. Zoroastrianism has a dualistic cosmology where "Ahura Mazda" is a being of ultimate good, while "Angra Mainyu" or "Ahriman" was the ultimate evil. Judaism de-emphasized this belief, which is why we have no "Devil" in Judaism. The closest thing to a Jewish devil would probably be Amalek. Christianity came from Judaism, and they reemphasized dualistic cosmology for various reasons.
I imagine Nachash may be inspired/based on some kind of old Canaanite trickster god. He behaves like most such deities in different mythologies, throwing a wrench into whatever the other gods and/or humans are doing and utterly enjoying the resulting chaos.
True and sort of. The creature didn't lead them astray. The creature told them the truth. They would, by eating that fruit (first) become more like god AND they would not die from eating the fruit. They were kicked out of the garden to prevent them from being able to eat from the fruit of the other tree (fruit of life or tree of life) which would have made them immortal. They were never immortal, nor expected to be. The basis of the story wasn't so much obedience -- it was just like greek-mythology (and the tower babel) accounts where the gods punish humans when they get too powerful -- and the punishment of any that would aid humans in getting powerful.
*_God The Victim_** ?* If "sin" is a crime against God, that would make God, a _victim of crime._ But if God is "all powerful" and can't be harmed, that would make sin, _a victimless crime._
When we look at what the sins are, we can see that they are actions that goes against the interest of the community (how do you expect a community to work if actions like stealing or raping are not punished) Saying that god is the victim is a way to make people fear their bad actions even if they are not caught

No, it more that people will decide to be good in heaven. That’s why purgatory was placed into doctrine under the Catholic Church. Earth is a proving ground, purgatory is a place where you can shed your sinful ways and heaven is the end goal. The Jewish faith doesn’t place much thought into the afterlife though which I agree with.
To get into Heaven, you essentially have to prove that you're willing to give up your free will to Yahweh. Whether you technically still have it or not, the result is the same

When I was a kid in Sunday School, one of the stories that bothered me most was the banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, for daring to eat the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. They were punished eternally for gaining the knowledge of good vs evil. But without knowledge of good and evil, there can be no choice between them. That struck me as very unfair as a child.
They were punished for disobeying God. What do u mean by the statement "punished eternally?" Just curious. He also warned them. He gave them everything and simply asked one thing from them, he had a right to expect obedience, just as a parent would expect from a child. They had ample warning that they would simply die if they didnt listen. Their disobedience did raise an interesting question however.....Can humans succeed without their creators guidance? Can they rule themselves and decide whats right and wrong? What has history shown?
Stating that he "simply asked for one thing". So by your logic, anything can be asked, no matter how ludicrous as long as one is only asking one crazy thing. As if that is not misguided enough, you double down on the cray cray and compare a request that makes no sense to something a parent asks of a child, Santa anyone? Lastly you claim "Ample warning" I am going to strongly disagree and call it a I am going to make you an offer you can't refuse abusive thuggish thing to say to two humans who had not sinned yet
@@helenhollis3984 There was nothing ludicrous about what he asked. He gave them EVERYTHING they had, he gave them life. They had all they needed to be fulfilled and happy. God warned them they would eventually grow old and die, that they would lose that prospect of everlasting life... he made sure they understood what was expected of them and the consequences of their actions. He had every right to expect obedience from them.
Yahweh in the bible would easily be classified as a malignant narcissist according to the DSM-5. Psychologists aren't really allowed to use the term "evil" to describe someone but malignant narcissists really are the closest real-life example of something that could be considered evil. Even the guy who wrote the Gospel of Judas did it because he recognized Yahweh as being evil so he said Jesus was summoned by a greater deity and Jesus's role was to perform some kind of ritual through his death. Funny enough, it even said Yahweh was known as the God of Fools who tricked the world into doing his evil deeds. For something that was thrown out of canon, it sure hit the nail on the head.

Isn't God's offer to Christians kind of... evil? Consider what forgiveness actually is: the suspension of justice. No just punishment for actual wrongdoing. Instead someone innocent - Jesus - gets punished. I mean seriously would a good person take this offer? Would you have an innocent human tortured and killed for things *you* did? Would you accept that infinite punishment for finite crimes is just in the first place? Or would you rather be responsible for your own actions and take an *appropriate* amount of punishment for your own sins? If a good God exists, Christianity might as well be a test whether you'd take the immoral offer or not.

Jesus is understood to have accepted punishment on our behalf as a sacrificial lamb as the religions of the time understood sacrifise. That is one of the selling points that someone willingly went ahead and paid the price for your sins( or shortcomings.) And acknowledging this sacrifise and resolving or trying to do better when you experience shortcoming is the one of the way your sins are absolved.
Growing up Baptist I always wondered why every 3 or 4 lines Yahweh would say "I am your lord your god, there are no other gods before me" like he was seriously overcompensating.
No other gods before. So, there are other gods, just not to be worshipped before worshiping Yahweh. He even explicitly says that he is enacting judgment on the gods of Egypt. Not that he’s the only god, just more powerful than them.
There are other translations, "I am your lord your god, you shall have no other gods before me". If this is an accurate translation it seems that God himself acknowledges that other gods exist, he just doesn't want you to worship them, only him.

God having to essentially shut down the debate and then speak on behalf of his opponent is rather fitting, I can't count the amount of times I've heard christians say "X thinks Y." and those responding are like "I've never heard anyone even remotely say that." It's the whole "you just want to sin" business among others, there is no attempt at understanding, just smearing with whatever accusation that makes disagreement palatable, it's not that non-christians might have a point, they're just evil, it's not that they don't believe, they just worship satan.
To me, the best attack against the "you need to make a choice" genre of arguments is another belief that most Christians hold themselves - babies that die are guaranteed to live happily with God forever. That is a straight up admission that a choice is not necessary.
Well, in Catholicism they don't, they get sent to Limbo and grow there. People in Limbo are thought not to be knowledgeable of things, so they don't suffer, but they aren't saved either, it's just a slightly worse version of Earthly life basically. At some point they'll learn of Jesus, and then they will need to make a decision. Once they do, they leave Limbo, going either to Heaven or Hell proper. The main difference between Earth and Limbo, or so it's understood by many Catholic theologians, is that being alive on Earth provides _many_ chances to decide to go pro-Jesus. Earth life even allows flip-flopping between the pro and anti-Jesus camps freely. But once one dies, the decision one takes in a state of immateriality becomes definitive. So the advantage of being alive is one can train to make their one final decision the correct one. But people in Limbo are already immaterial, so they only get one chance to make their decision. Whatever they decide, that's it, no change of mind later. That's why Catholics are so adamantly pro-life: because a baby allowed to grow has tons of chances of being saved, whereas an aborted soul in Limbo will have one, and only one, chance, thus making Limbo a strictly worse state of existence.
To most religious zealots their creed is "If you have enough faith facts don't matter" I know I have a personal relationship with reality so facts do matter.

There is a verse in Ezekiel 28 about a cherub in the garden of Eden being thrown to earth. Revelation also says that Satan was the serpent of old. It is a mish-mash, but that is how it got there.
@@haggismcbaggis9485 But if you read Ezekiel more closely, it was talking about the king of Tyre being the anointed Cherub. However, it clearly states that he was a man and mortal. He was reduced to ashes and was no more. The same king was also called Lucifer, Son of the Morning in Isaiah, and it mentions that how he fell from Heaven, but it's more likely that his fall was from being perfect in the ways of the Lord to becoming violent and unequal as well as declaring himself to be superior to the Lord. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Ezekiel also mentions the great dragon, the fleeing, twisting serpent. He is called king of Egypt in Ezekiel and Leviathan in Isaiah. He is decribed as having many heads and being the ruler of the rivers of Egypt and possibly of the Mediterranean Sea. The Lord is said to have smashed his heads in Isaiah and fished him with a hook from the rivers of Egypt in Ezekiel. In both of these instances, he seems to have been slain. A similar character appears again in Revelation, as the great red dragon, serpent of old and Satan (who is the Devil in the New Testament). Here, he faught Michael, and he was thrown out of Heaven, dragging one third of the stars with him. He was imprisioned in the Abyss and later released for a short season. He will fight Jesus Christ and be thrown into the Lake of Fire. ------------------------------------------------------------------- What's interesting is that Revelation seems to be borrowing from books like Isaiah, Daniel and Ezekiel and reiterating those stories. This time it's Jesus Christ as the morning star vs. the Devil as the great red dragon. The Devil seems to incorporate aspects from Leviathan, Lucifer and Azazel. While it was Yahweh who faught with him in the Old Testament, here Michael fights with him instead. Jesus Christ shares some aspects with Lucifer but inverted. They both share almost identical titles with ties to Venus, but Jesus Christ redeems and saves from the Lake of Fire instead of becoming corrupt and burning into ashes.

Yes, I agree with every point. The early Christians were Gnostics, and Marcion especially despised the God of the Old Testament, so Satan in the new testament refers to God. The beast in the book of Revelation chapter 13:1-8 references God in Hosea 13:1-8, so the New Testament is also calling him the Beast. Much evil has been done "in the name of god" in history, like crusades with millions of dead, religious wars with millions of dead, missionary massacres with millions of dead, and persecution of Jews with millions of dead. Christian here (though I have unusual beliefs), excellent video. I have a few thoughts. What fascinates me about the Old Testament is the lack of propaganda. God doesn't seem to care if the reader likes him or not. He says he is good in the Bible but his actions clearly reflect behavior that we would consider less than good, like sending evil spirits to torment people and purposefully deceiving his own prophets. God's message seems to be something like, "I say what is and is not good, it doesn't matter if you agree or not." If you want to win people over, the Old Testament fails completely at doing that, which is why most Christians focus on Jesus Christ and view God the Father through a perception of Christ. If there was no New Testament, I think the Abrahamic religions would be half the size they are now. But God the Father as depicted in the Old Testament is interesting to me. I have tried dissecting his character and have drawn a few conclusions. One of the major conclusions is that FREE WILL DOES NOT EXIST. A few reasons I say this... ONE - when God tells you to do something, you do it. It's not a question, it's an order. Neither Moses nor Jonah initially wanted to do what God commanded but in the end, they relented and they never appeared to actually have a choice. TWO - When something bad happens, God is always responsible (Isaiah 45:7 good and evil come from me
I can see how you'd get these ideas from the old testament, but the only thing I'm confused about is how hell works here. How can a fire be purifying, cleansing or lead to people being reborn? And what does reborn mean in this context?
@@Papierkorb2292 In Isaiah 6: 6-7, an angel uses a piece of burning coal to purify Isaiah's lips and atone him of his sins. So the concept of purification through fire (and surviving through it) does exist in the Bible. I simply took the concept further to propose that all hellfire could have this effect. In the Bible, hell is described as being a place where you burn forever. It's eternal punishment. It's an everlasting fire. Seems pretty straight forward, but the Bible is often not what it seems. The Bible uses words like "forever" very liberally. In Isaiah 32:14 and Samuel 2:30, the word forever seems to mean very long time, or until you die. Everlasting fire simply implies the fire will last but not necessarily the contents burning within. Now getting past that eternal punishment bit is the trickiest part and admittedly requires the most mental gymnastics. I would simply put forth that dying in hellfire is a form of eternal punishment because who you were is literally gone forever. Even if you are reborn, it's a new version of you, separate and different from the old. The old you is dead forever (eternal punishment), the new you is reborn in perfection (salvation). In this way, one can experience both. I do not think everyone will have to burn in hell to achieve salvation, just the particularly stubborn people. Philippians 2:10-11 says that everyone will confess that Jesus is Lord. This acceptance of Jesus coupled with hellfire seems like a process to save everyone. So yeah, this is what I think will happen.Take everything I say with a grain of salt though. I don't actually know anything. Would love to hear your opinion.

Furthermore, I still can't really make sense of it, because I don't see a reason why this would be a thing. 11:00 kind of blew my mind. I'd never actually noticed that. I've always pointed out the fact that, if 'god' is omniscient, he already knew what choice Adam and Eve were going to make, so what was the point of the 'test' in the first place? I never noticed that 'Adam and Eve' had to choose between knowing or not knowing something they didn't know in the first place. Religion is a bizarre thing and I still don't understand why it still exists. I really wish I wasn't living in a time period where future humans will be stunned when they look at what we believed and did, in the same way we scoff at what people believed in and did in just the past couple of centuries. Why can't we have been the time period that ditched ancient fairytales and started a Golden Age of discovery about the universe?
Great video, the satan literary device character started out as a personality trait of the yahweh and then mutated into a separate noun much much later, eventually christian cults turning it into the new updated diabolus character. Although even many early gnostic christians who were just christians believed yahweh was the original evil demiurge anyway.
One of the things that started me on the path to deconstruction was finding out that Judaism and Christianity were derived from Zoroastrianism. That and finding out about Lot's daughters.
Not just Zoroastrianism, but many older polytheistic religions in that area. Things like genesis and the flood were nearly copied word for word. The flood in the epic of Gilgamesh is nearly identical it's just "god" is replaced with "gods" and different names of Noah and his family. It's clear their monotheistic religion was just adopted from polytheism. Which they always criticize as being just evil pagan religions lol
@@musickfreek i can only assume he's either referring to lots 2 daughters being mercilessly destroyed in sodom. Or the fact that the surviving daughters (2) raped Lot (yes their father) and started the line of the Moabites and Ammonites. Maybe i'm missing something or just so desensitized to these things, because I don't even see this as the greatest "sin" of the bible. Infact there could be a argument made that incest is normal in the bible and actually commended by God.
Judaism was not derived from Zoroastrianism. Abraham came from Ur of Samaria and move to the Canaanite region. Joshua chapter 24 blatantly admits the Canaanite origins for the religion in which Abraham was exposed to. I think what you are referring to is the Babylonian captivity and the influence Cyrus may have had on the Hebrew people as there are scholars who believe the Old testament was written in the time of Babylonian captivity and the god of Cyrus was Zoroastrian. But you'd have to remember first that it was the Babylonians who took the Hebrews captive prior to Cyrus conquering the Babylonians. This means that the influence of the Babylonians would be present as well but long before that was the Canaanites and before that the Sumerians.
God: calls Satan the lord of this world. Gets you to believe false notions of dying and going to heaven. Satan: Shows you that the reality of our situation is endless reincarnation. Buddha: Tries to get you to seek eternal oblivion and calls all of human nature 86,000 corruptions. Never laughed a day in his life.
One can argue for Atheistic Reincarnation. Consciousness will end and nothingness will subsume us, yes, but the matter and energy of the body remains, being reused to fuel new life. This is objectively true, as the death of plants and animals are used to fuel our bodies, as an example. This does not account for a soul or spirit, however, as many Atheists do not believe in a soul. So, the OP’s sentiment isn’t entirely wrong, just not well-said.
@@pokecuz I do know though, your brain is your entire construct of reality. Without it, you aren't conscious and can't think or feel. This shouldn't be a hard thing for people to understand. It may turn people away from Christianity and maybe Islam, but for others, it's pretty standard fare. Polytheisms, those that do bother writing things down, have collections of contradictory tales, sometimes in the same volume, with a deity being good in one tale, and evil in another, roles changing all around, even for the same supposed event, and it's all taken in stride. For example, in Hinduism, some sects consider Vishnu the topmost god, with Shiva in a secondary role. Another sect reverses that, having Shiva as the topmost god, and Vishnu as the secondary. Another says it's neither, but their respective wives are the truly important ones forming a trinity that rules everything (a goddesshead), the male gods being secondary. Another says none of these really exist, it's all abstract concepts anthropomorphized and there's no supreme god at all. Another merges everyone and say... etc. etc. etc. And all of that is still Hinduism, the different mutually contradictory takes being a-ok for most everyone "because ~ shrugs ~". And so on, and so forth. 😁

Yeah, the more you learn about the history of religion, the more fictional it is. Like the snake in the Garden. It was basically just a fairy tale to explain why snakes have no legs and why humans seem to think differently from other animals. (even though we really don't to a meaningful degree)
Like the Native Americans have a story on why bears don't have tails.

Yeah it's fascinating stuff. I wish more people would learn how these religions influenced each other and changed over the years.

To me, the best attack against the "you need to make a choice" genre of arguments is another belief that most Christians hold themselves - babies that die are guaranteed to live happily with God forever. That is a straight up admission that a choice is not necessary.
If theyre baptised. If not they burn. Yea, those are some moral paragons.

My favorite is well, youre definitely proof Adams grandchildren were highly inbred... How else did they reproduce?
Many "educators" have no business teaching. They are there to indoctrinate children.
Technically you’re right even in Paradise Lost. The snake already existed before Satan possessed it.
There is a verse in Ezekiel 28 about a cherub in the garden of Eden being thrown to earth. Revelation also says that Satan was the serpent of old. It is a mish-mash, but that is how it got there.
@@haggismcbaggis9485
But if you read Ezekiel more closely, it was talking about the king of Tyre being the anointed Cherub.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ezekiel also mentions the great dragon, the fleeing, twisting serpent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
What's interesting is that Revelation seems to be borrowing from books like Isaiah, Daniel and Ezekiel and reiterating those stories.

Incredible video. One of your best.
In reality, the New Testament was written by the Piso family, and the Revelation by the black sheep of the family Julius who wrote it to expose them.

In the Bible, Satan did nothing wrong. God was the one who killed people for not acting obsequious enough to him, who led people to sin, who drowned everyone in the whole world, who ruined Job's life just to win a bet and who killed babies to punish their fathers. All Satan ever did was try to convince people to not worship God. You know, that guy who killed everybody, like drowning everyone in the world and murdering babies to upset their fathers? "People tend to unite when they have a common enemy, and the worse the enemy, the better."

Much evil has been done "in the name of god" in history, like crusades with millions of dead, religious wars with millions of dead, missionary massacres with millions of dead, and persecution of Jews with millions of dead.
But let us also remember that there are many Christians who have an idea about "God" as being "merciful", and who are able to disregard most of the bible. It is possible to be a nice person even for people who think of themselves as Christian.
So Satan is like Rodrick Heffley, while God is like Gregory Heffley.
The arab One Is way worst
@@raymondjohnson2724 Interesting, I can see where you got that from, but ascribing this property to fire still basically sounds like magic to me. I mean I don't see what would give specifically fire (or heat in general, seeing as it was just a piece of coal), this property.
Furthermore, I still can't really make sense of it, because I don't see a reason why this would be a thing. Why would god create hell like this, especially when the old you ends up disappearing anyway and giving away to a different person. What's the purpose of the punishment then and why would it be required to be pure or reborn? That sounds like unnecessary suffering to me.
All of these books and references IMO come from the minds of great philosophical thinkers who thought about existence and explanations for causes and effects in the world. It's clear their monotheistic religion was just adopted from polytheism. Which they always criticize as being just evil pagan religions lol

You have a way of putting things I've tried ineptly to explain previously so succinctly. Keep it up.
Our reality is NOT endless reincarnation though. We live, then die. Oblivion is all that happens after death.

If this video doesn't turn people away from religion, nothing else will.
If this video turns people away from religion, then they were halfway there already. If they are the type of people that heavily imbibe of the koolaid, then they either wouldn't have searched for this video in the first place or just searched for it so they could pause it and roast non-believers in the comments section.
