- Brendan Schaub is many things: A former UFC fighter, a podcaster, a victim of CTE, a joke thief, a cheating husband... But he also LARPS as a comedian! The sad reality of Brendan Schaub is that he'll never tell a joke half as funny as the joke that is his career.
From his beef with Ariel Helwani, to his trashing of Mike Tyson, or his betrayal of Bobby Lee, and even his ongoing feud with the entire comic community, both alive and dead. The standards for fame and celebrity have been falling precipitously even before the internet really took hold (eg with Paris Hilton and then the Kardashians) and the line between celebrity and competence also becoming increasingly blurred (with people like Reagan and Trump and worse in other countries being elected to office and surveys showing that people think soap opera doctors have real medical skills). Lo and behold now you have someone without even the thin qualifications of the Kardashians being famous and doing both comedy and podcasting despite having no talent for either

There is really something at play here that; some sort of facade. If I had to take a wild guess, I would say that Joe Rogan feels some type of responsibility for virtually ending Schaub's career as a UFC fighter by talking him out of being murdered in the ring by more talented opponents. He then must've surmised "Oh shit, athletes with brain-damage and no career almost always end up committing suicide" and then--in a panic-stricken frenzy--began handing Brenden Schaub podcasting jobs and comedy gigs in hopes that, so long as he's being kept busy, he won't have to kill himself and make Joe Rogan feel guilty.

The release of his first comedy special made me start believing in conspiracy theories. Friggin Patrishe. I actually saw Patrice live for Elephant in the Room at the DC Improv and KNEW I was witnessing greatness. Watched Patrice kill at the Comedy Central roast and then later found out he has a stroke. He never recovered and it hurt.

Brenden could be a great comic if he had enough self awareness to make his flaws work for him. Diaz struggles to speak clearly and say things correctly but his act is so genuine that it becomes part of the appeal and makes him that much funnier.
Brenden is image obsessed and can’t stand to be the butt of the joke so he gets in his own way trying to play the cool guy part all the time. If he embraced the fact that he’s a dumb goofball and spoke to us from his real perspective things could be different.
