I have a different take on this. Vertical/portrait videos NEVER look ok on a computer monitor or TV screen. It wastes 3/4 of the screen space and feels like you are looking through a slit. On the other hand, horizontal/landscape fits every device. The video will fill the screen of the desktop monitor, the TV screen and the cell phone oriented horizontally. With the added benefit you can show a wider view and less ceiling/sky and ground. Most people that shoot vertical waste half of the screen with superfluous sky or floor.

Great tip about not switching from portrait to landscape mid-roll. I've got one other thought about shooting video. I've been shooting film/video for over 40 years. Humans have traditionally seen moving pictures in landscape mode, and for good reason. We have eyes on the side of our face, not on our forehead and chin. The recent trend for portait mode in video is a silly attempt by big tech to tell us how we should see the world. We see the world in landscape. Shoot video in landscape! Save portrait mode for, well, still portraits. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that. Best to you.

Good point! Agree, landscape is definitely more of an experience for viewers.
Although, understand that platforms want you to move with them these days in order for your feeds to be seen as 'popular'. So to do portrait videos *can* be good for just really quick videos, or at least a short version that you've repurposed from a longer landscape video. It will be interesting to see where the video world heads! (Especially for me coming from photographer POV).
Thanks for your comment, always great to hear views from people in the industry!

Facebook seems to have removed the ability to do landscape/wide in their apps.

A better way of capturing landscape video without rotating the phone, or combining both landscape and portrait videos in one video clip is by using US Patent 11,297,260.
