The two stone Daleks were actually repurposed from the Strategist and Scientist Daleks - in fact, the Scientist one was unable to be restored, which is why we never see any orange Daleks kicking around after S5.

Despite their flaws I have such nostalgia for the Peter Cushing movies. When I was 10 me and my brother used to go to a museum every weekend on a Sunday where you could watch old TV and films and two of them used to be these Peter Cushing films and I bloody adored them.

Here’s something interesting about the Dalek cameo in The Five Doctors, They originally didn’t wanted to have the Daleks in the story, But the late Terrance Dicks said and I quote ‘You got too, I mean you can’t an anniversary story without the Daleks’ and so they only allowed one Dalek, But at least they got a Dalek in their 20 Anniversary special.

According to Dalek63-88, the Death Zone Dalek had parts of itself assembled from different Dalek casings from every previous Dalek story dating back to the original Shawcrsft ones made in 1964. So not bad for a Metel Meanie from Skaro so blinded by hatred and stupidity it blasted it's own dome off.

Honestly the movie Dalek designs are my favorite Dalek designs. It screams 60’s but also looks a little like what the revival Dalek design would be like in the 60’s, what with them being taller and the bigger head lamps. The red one also looks so regal and cool.

The moment in the first Cushing Dalek film when the Dalek is wondering why the prison door isn’t closing properly and Barbara shouts “Dalek!”, and the Dalek casually says “Yes?”, I remember laughing so hard when I first saw it and I still laugh when I see that tiny moment. I was like Robert DeNiro laughing in the cinema in Cape Fear.

Let's talk about this Dalekcember and review YOU. I enjoyed the series as a whole. I particularly like the little mini sketches in the videos which genuinely made me lol. Very Well made and put together, the length of videos too sat nicely at the 15-25 minute mark (some going longer than what I liked). I was really fond of some of trivia you took extra time to research like the different takes of Davros in Journey's End. It would be awesome to see you do a Mastercember for The Master or maybe a Cybercember in the future. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to yourself =)

They were a rare faction tho, never before seen or since, cuz the show was off TV at the time so they built their own, probably using those old dodgy blue prints that keep doing the rounds, cuz they had symmetrically conical skirts and oddly plain appendages. Still, good enough, we all knew what they were.
Rumour has it, it was a condition made by Steve Martin, he said he’d take the gig so long as in the scene of famous fictional aliens revolting they had some daleks in there, somewhere.

Interesting fact the Stone Daleks were previously the Scientist and Stratigist Daleks from Victory, at least their casings were. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason we never saw the Scientist again. There was one Stone Dalek at the Doctor Who Experience that got there about a year before it closed, that could have well been the Scientist. So that's probably the rank of the Stone Dalek but as to which one it is... Hard to say. I can only assume it was the Scientist, maybe that's why we never see him again, maybe he was wiped from time

    • @DalekTheSupreme

The Stone Daleks were the after-images of two of the Daleks present for the Doctor being stuck on the Pandorica, and I believe Nick Briggs mentioned that the voice he did for the one that reactivated is the one he would have done for the Drone.

6:06 And also despite the fact that the Dalek Empire was trying to destroy all of reality.
8:12 I like to think that it's the Dalek Emperor as he would likely command all Daleks while sending his own ship into battle. My head canon for the Metaltron Dalek is that it was wounded in a random battle that the Doctor wasn't even involved in.

    • @dirrdevil
      @dirrdevil 9 місяців тому +1

I am so glad you brought up that first point. That has always bothered me.
Yes, the Daleks wouldn't normally want to mess with a Fixed Point in Time on a whim, but when your plan is to destroy all of reality, who cares?
My head canon is that doing so on their own without the reality bomb could mess up their plans; unforeseen consequences of time meddling that could destroy them, the Daleks, without the greater destruction of reality as they planned it.
However, one final problem: do Daleks know who individual humans are and their place in history? Doubtful.

And that ends a true epic. I definitely agree with your thoughts on the Dalek movies. Both still hold great nostalgia for me.
I mostly agree with your rankings of the stories, but I think I would have ranked Victory of the Daleks and Doomsday a bit higher and maybe Day of the Daleks a bit lower. Then again, the only Dalek stories I actually dislike are the ones written by Steven Moffat (not a crack against him, I enjoyed a lot of his stories) and maybe Destiny of the Daleks, so I would have a hard time forming a list anyway.
I do agree that keeping the Daleks topical is a good way to keep them interesting and fresh while still respecting their roots. I think the main thing to remember when writing the Daleks is that they aren't robots. The worst stories treat the machine like the problem, while the best ones acknowledge that it is the minds of the Dalek creatures themselves that are the source of their evil. Don't write them like static, limited machines, write them as intelligent but hate filled creatures. You can have the Daleks do silly things at times, even. In any case, I am certainly grateful that the Daleks are still with us and are likely to continue to be present in Doctor Who.

I made a similar comment on a video once about the TV storyline Planet of the Daleks as it shared a lot with the first Dalek adventure, wherein I pointed out that the Thals had very sixties outfits and it was a practical idea of whoever came up with it, that Barbara would switch from a skirt to a pair of trousers, in the film Barbara was sitting around in a blouse and skirt, found out Ian had arrived and rushed to get changed, thereby wearing something more fitting for dealing with Daleks and all that climbing she had to do, and I still think it would have been a neat call back to the earlier serial if in POTD, Jo had been offered a change of clothes after being rescued by the Thals or Wester when she was recovering from the fungal infection caused by the plants on Spiradon and wouldn't have been too dissimilar to something that Katy Manning herself was used to wearing. For instance, in Frontier in Space, Jo had been wearing the same outfit since the start of Carnival of Monsters and then changed into a all black outfit, and the Doc even made a joke about it 'I like the outfit, who are you fighting tonight?'. In-universe, it could have worked.

Honestly, if there ever was going to be a 3rd Peter Cushning Dr Who movie, I would have wanted it to be the Tenth Planet or Tomb of the Cybermen. I feel like that would have been interesting to see a Cushning Style Cyberman, as well as a movie-style adaptation of Tomb of the Cybermen. I feel like that story would have been the best first encounter with the Cybermen for Dr Who, as you can build up there menace and then have them break out of their tombs.

34:24, With your Frontier in Space remake idea, I'd say Donald Trump's previous warmongering tendencies are a better comparison than Brexit. Case and point, the character on the screen declaring war on Draconia instantly reminded me of Trump.
    Also for the record, here's my top 10;
    1: Genesis of The Daleks
    2: Remembrance of The Daleks
    3: Power of The Daleks
4: Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways
    5: Dalek
    6: The Daleks
    7: Resurrection of The Daleks
    8: Planet of The Daleks
    9: Day of The Daleks
    10: Revelation of The Daleks

8:10 - 8:22 that is basically a Dalek gunship there where a few wizzing about in the beginning it only has 3 Daleks onboard if you pause at 8:21 u can see them back to back as clear as you can for this footage, also there was a tie in toy of this and if you google Dalek gunship you will see it with a more grey colour scheme.

I like the movie Daleks far more than the TV designs of the time. The extra height from the bumper and dome lights really make a difference and you can see how they influenced the 2005 design. I took the Dalek weapon as being some kind of nerve gas which seemed quite horrific to me as a kid.

I think the reason why the BBC HAD to have the Daleks appear every series was because when the Looney Tunes: Back in Action film used the Daleks in the one scene with other sci-fi monsters and aliens. They weren’t giving permission from the Terry Nation estate. Which really pissed them off. They then Told the BBC they didn’t look after the Daleks properly. Then as punishment, the Daleks have to appear in Every Series.
I’m not sure if what I’m saying is 100% true but I did read a comment that did say something like this.

I've always really enjoyed these films. The first is such a colourful, pulpy 60s sci-fi romp and the second is surprisingly darker and grittier. I like that they both feel like very different films rather than being the same thing rehashed like many sequels do.

Ian was pushed back on the controls, he was receiving a hug or cuddle from Barbara and stumbled upon the lever. If the interior looked like the TV set, he might have been standing next to the console and one hand on Barbara and the other accidentally touched the main switch and the Tardis dematerializing began, although in the film, it looks like the shortest journey ever made. I am not sure, but the lever reminds me of something out of a signal box on a railway line, the whole situation is just a odd plot point to move everyone to Skaro and I can't help thinking it had been filmed in the '80's, Barbara might have said something about it or Ian would have been apologizing, a bit taken a back and not so quick to walk out the door.

actually the Daleks were filmed for a very brief cameo in Dimensions in Time, the camera panning over one immediately before the 5th Doctor, Nyssa and Peri. It was cut because of an agreement not being reached, so the scene starts immediately after the very brief Dalek cameo. It was posted on YT for while.
