  • As Peter Cushing's Dr. Who movies - aka Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. - come to Britbox, we take a look back at one of the oddest continuity curios in Doctor Who history.
Do the Cushing movies "count"? What innovations did it bring to the main series? And can you really call yourself a Whovian if you haven't seen them, like on of our presenters?

In the book "Day of the Doctor" there is a scene in the black archive where Ten and Eleven find the VHS and the DVD of the Peter Cushing movies and spend some time calling each other Doctor who 😉

I would argue, the parallel existence of the Doctor has already been folded into the TV series - see Season 5, Eps 3 Victory of the Daleks. Compare the new color-coded Daleks in that episode to the those in Invasion Earth 2150AD - in both lobby card and on the cover of the original soundtrack album, it shows the same color-coded, more sturdy Daleks in a line. To me that was one of the biggest clues that the universe we were in that series wasn't quite right, timelines all mixed up.

Peter Cushing came up with a theory which can be used to make them canon. he thought his Doctor could be an older version of Tenant's meta-crisis human Doctor. This Doctor had children with Rose, hence the grandchildren named Susan and Barbara after his first companions. Somewhere along the line Rose dies and a distraught old Doctor builds a time machine and takes his grandchildren for a ride. Something goes wrong and he and the girls are stranded in the 1960's on Pete's World.

He did make a theory but not this as he was dead when the Meta Crisis happened in series 4, in fact he'd been dead for over ten years. His theory was he's a future incarnation who was tricked into thinking he's human by the Toymaker who forced him to relive his older adventures

@@BenNightHound Obviously I must've read this theory somewhere online and took it as true without checking.

I saw the first one ages ago and enjoyed it. I'd like to get the pair of them on DVD some day to add to the collection, but right now I'm more focused on accumulating the actual show.
