Square body are the best and most affordable classic vehicle you can restore.
Looks really good, as a body and paint guy I've gotta say these spray on dyes and interior paints have come a LONG way in the last several years. I'm in the middle of building a 75 Cutlass restomod and had to buy used ones that were different colors, I figured I'd just dye them until I could buy new ones but they came out REALLY good and talking to people who had done it in the last couple of years and told me how well they have held up. The secret to the nuts on the back of the panel is to hit them with some WD40, PB Blaster or some other kind of lube and let it get in there and penetrate the threads
Nice work. Im doing this on my truck.
After washing it down it looked good but that finished product looks great and I like the gloss black trim.
Thanks! Took a little risk but very happy with the way it came out. That will be the color scheme for the interior
Never use power tools on 40 plus year old trim bolts. Always do it buy hand.
Right
Amen! Those turned out Great!
Dang dude, that looks good! I love the black trim. I can't wait to see the truck in-person.
Thanks!
Looks good bro. Next time use plastic adhesion promoter for better results or the paint would start coming off even with the smallest scratch.. that is like primer but for plastics
I will for sure!
Looks great! I’m gonna do mine soon I’m gonna make some modifications to mine and fix some dents and such
Thanks! I think in the future I'll sand them down some to even out the scratches
I saw you on the road yesterday 😊
Nice! Don't be afraid to say hi!
That era of plastic broke when it was still new. 80's plastic... snap - crackle - pop!!!
Good video man. Just picked up a Squarebody also missing door panels. Would be nice to find a cheap set and paint them up like this.
Thanks. They're still around! Check smaller junk yards in the country
I’m about to do mine on my square body k5. Have to replace my window seals also. I ended up getting cinnamon brown from a bmw color.
Nice! Just make sure to use different cranks! The factory ones will scratch up your work
@@diveingarage crank? Window crank?
Yup
@@diveingarage thanks for the advice. I was planning on replacing them anyways.
Did you scuff up the chrome before you painted them? Looks great so nice job. I need to fix a couple spots on my 02 suburban dash.
Yes! Have to or it won't stick
Cringed, when I saw you power wrenching, try blow dryer to loosen ,then hand wrench easy! Great info in your videos! Keep up the content.
@diveingarage Great video. At the 12:20 mark you pointed to one of the chrome pieces that you didn't paint, and said "And that chrome cleaned up really good too".
But nowhere in the video did you demonstrate or explain how you cleaned it up. Can you please advise?
Oh! Hey, can you show us what the interior of the doors looks like before and after? Make sure you get us some good footage so we can see how much of an impact the door panels makes!
For sure! I'll put them on this weekend. Will put up some pics
I wanted to do this but My Panels were spray painted already and ugly Bright blue. How would you go about removing the paint for 1972 Deluxe Door Panels?
That's a tough one. I think if I were in your position, I'd sand and strip them best I could, then prime them real good to get a good base. The duplicolor stuff goes on like spray paint. Worst case is they're toast and you source some more. They're out there.
@@diveingarage Ok I'm going to try to Save BC it was My Grandfather's Truck so I'll Try Degreasing and Cleaning non Abrasive as Much as possible then Just paint. I'll make a video Just Bc there wasn't Much on topic. I actually met someone today with Same Panels and painted but they were OG color. Thx for replying
That's awesome, glad you're saving his truck! When you make the video, tag me so I can see how they turn out!
@@diveingarage Ok will do Thx Bro
Shouldn’t they be primed before painting
Use a bigger impact gun and you won’t break as many…….
next time mask it................... save a bunch of headaches with breaking 40 year old plastic.
:)
Painful to watch hard to find trim get spraybombed
How would you restore them?
