Dawn Wells is as charming in real life as she was in the show. And Bob Denver... my dad actually got to meet him. Dad had returned from Vietnam, an amputee, and was touring the CBS studios with some friends who were also veterans of various handicaps. They met many celebrities... Doris Day, Phyllis Diller, Don Adams from ‘Get Smart’, Arthur O’Connell, and many others. But Bob Denver was probably the kindest, and actually very generous. When he heard that the veterans’ old black-and-White TV had been taken away for some reason I cannot remember, Denver bought them a brand new Color TV set (which was unusual in those days, and expensive). Dad also got to meet the skipper, Alan Hale Jr., briefly at his restaurant. I always loved it when Dad told me about each celebrity, what it was like meeting them, what his first impresssions were of them and their personalities.
Thank you, for sharing these great memories, Brian. As a United States Navy Desert Storm veteran, I'd like to thank your dad for his service. I grew up, watching 'Gilligan's Island'. Bob Denver was a class act. I love that he bought that color TV for veterans.

He had a few bags of luggage with him. I told him "I am going to Vegas for a company trip" He said thats wonderful you'll love it" Then he introduced me to two ladies, if I'm not mistaken one was his mother she was an older lady on the left of him and the other his sister on his right. I remember thinking ass I walked on my way "Aint that something I just met Gilligan"

I loved that cast, and I still Love the cast. And I seriously admire Dawn for making that clothing line, for the elderly. I just wish that those clothes were still available, for my elderly mom. ♡
Critics absolutely hated it-but the audience loved it--it's interesting that during the 3rd season some of those critics were beginning to see the charm and humor of the show and commented that the banter between Gilligan and the Skipper was like watching "Laurel and Hardy"
along with Sally Fields, Doris Day, Annette Funicello, Donna Douglas, and let's not forget probably at #1 as the most desirable woman ever Barbara Eden.... all have that 'girl next door' appeal but i definitely dreamed of Jeanie a lot.
One of my first jobs out of high school was working at a Pontiac dealer. One of the older guys was a marine in the 1960s he was fly from California to Michigan and sat next to Barbara Eden. He said she was so kind and down to earth to him. He told us that she was incredibly beautiful and just very easy to talk with.
When I'm finally called home, my Heaven is going to include me sitting between Bob Denver and Dawn Wells front row center watching The Beatles while Samantha Stevens and Ellie May Clampett hand us popcorn and Pepsi. What cool people. RIP you two, you made my childhood a bit brighter.
Um - I thought Gilligan's Island was intolerably silly, almost unwatchable, but maybe I should re-watch and re-evaluate it. You know, for research purposes.
Such a great interview with these two. They both had such kind loving souls and brought many smiles and laughter to many people. Thanks for the post, much appreciated :o)
Even in her late seventies she was looking good. I was always more of a "Mary Ann" than a "Ginger" fan (though Tina Louise is no pig herself). Bummer that no one from that series got residuals for reruns even though it is one of the most highly syndicated shows in history. If they had they would all easily be millionaires like Thurston Howell the Third.
At the time Bob didn't even tell Dawn that he was the one who pushed to get her and the Professor into the song. She was surprised to hear it in this interview 25 years later.
They were such good friends. He was so kind who made the producers include Maryann and the professor in opening credits. Both were excluded in the first season opening.
TV Land had a tradition of showing TV series marathons when a celebrity died. When Bob Denver died I was expecting them to have a Gilligan's Island marathon. When they didn't it was like they were acting like he never existed. It made me angry that they didn't care enough to pay their respects. I have since purchased the DVD series but I will never forget the day Bob Denver died.
Me, too! I have all 3 seasons on DVD -- and no one can take them away from me! PS: TV Land may not have cared, but we, the millions of fans, surely do!
Dawn Wells' line of clothes based on costume design to help people who have difficulty dressing is a great idea -- I've never seen anything advertised like this, and I wonder if such targeted clothes designs now exist and if people who need them know they exist.
I forgot that Pat had a talk show back in the day, I didn't realize I forgot until now, cuz I never really watched it then. Just kinda odd that after his stint with the talk show, he just went back to being the Wheel host. But RIP to Bob & more recently (2.5 weeks ago) to Dawn. Such a shame she had to die from the pandemic, she still was healthy & still had a few more years left in her. As of today, at 86, Tina Louise is now the last "survivor" of Gilligan's Island.
Just goes to show you that the only important critics are the audience. 2020 Gillian's Island is still being aired on cable. At the time I thought Tina was hot, but now as I look back Dawn was the full package. She had style, she had grace. And was a beauty long after her acting career ended. RIP Dawn Wells, and Bob Denver. Hope to meet you someday on the other side.

Critics absolutely hated it-but the audience loved it--it's interesting that during the 3rd season some of those critics were beginning to see the charm and humor of the show and commented that the banter between Gilligan and the Skipper was like watching "Laurel and Hardy"
Beautiful woman. The epitome of class. My very favorite actress. Rest in Peace Dawn
What a beautiful mind and heart goes into being like dawn wells.
Still absolutely love that show. Watch it most Sunday afternoons.
Dawn Wells is every man's dream girl.
Yes. Ginger or Maryann has always been the question. The answer had always been Maryann!
along with Sally Fields, Doris Day, Annette Funicello, Donna Douglas, and let's not forget probably at #1 as the most desirable woman ever Barbara Eden.... all have that 'girl next door' appeal but i definitely dreamed of Jeanie a lot.
Clarence Hodges Judy Pace was flipping gorgeous, I had a huge crush on her in Jr high school.
She is hott!! Love that tan!!
@@AVportau Julie Newmar. 😍
Man. Has there ever been a bad picture/video of Dawn Wells? Gorgeous women. Always.
Dawn just got prettier as she aged even in her 70s she was still looking great and was very active
I wish I was on a deserted island with Dawn Wells
When I'm finally called home, my Heaven is going to include me sitting between Bob Denver and Dawn Wells front row center watching The Beatles while Samantha Stevens and Ellie May Clampett hand us popcorn and Pepsi. What cool people. RIP you two, you made my childhood a bit brighter.
The episode where Gilligan had the jack and the beanstalk dream where Maryanne was in the French maid outfit.... .Holy mackerel!!!!
Dawn Wells is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. =)
*****
OMG, Yes! I was not aware of her but am glad you pointed her out =)
RIP Dawn and Bob
Someone gave Maryann a thumbs down???
Even in her late seventies she was looking good. I was always more of a "Mary Ann" than a "Ginger" fan (though Tina Louise is no pig herself). Bummer that no one from that series got residuals for reruns even though it is one of the most highly syndicated shows in history. If they had they would all easily be millionaires like Thurston Howell the Third.
@@JustWasted3HoursHere Tina is 4 years older than Dawn.
At the time Bob didn't even tell Dawn that he was the one who pushed to get her and the Professor into the song. She was surprised to hear it in this interview 25 years later.
Bob Denver is just so sweet and innocent. I had such a huge crush on him as Gilligan (still do!) RIP Legend.💕
The cast was fun.
I had the biggest crush on Dawn Wells growing up. What a face, what a body. What a dreamgirl.
Alex Stone Hey she's my girl lol I still have a crush on her
Haha, I don't blame you - she has aged remarkably well. We may have to fight over her. ;-)
Alex Stone me too
No doubt, sexier than Ginger
if i recall correctly, she was a beauty contest winner at some point in her life
I can't believe I watched this whole clip and it was great.
I don't ever remember The Pat Sajak's Show. Gilligan's Island was a show I use to watch. 🤗
Pat Sajak is best known for being the host of Wheel of Fortune.
I still love this show!!!!
A more innocent time back then. Fun to watch and pass the time when I was preparing dinner.
Bob Denver was actually a very good actor, and had quite a career before G.I.
OTHER THAN Maynard...what OTHER characters did Bob play before Gilligan’s Island???
@@rvpstudioscanada3991 Maynard Crebs
Bob starred as Maynard Crebs in the sitcom "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis."
rvpstudioscanada He played Charlene's Darlings husband on few episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.
After gi bob was on dusty dunes and farout nuts
I heared Bob Denver fought to get Dawn Wells and Rusell Johnson billed on the show. that was a nice thing to do.
Those late-80's sweaters! I still have a box of them in storage. LOL. Maybe they'll come back in style in 2020.
Sorry Dawg, it’s 2020 and it doesn’t appear those sweaters are making a comeback any time soon.😀
I LOVE Mary Ann, and the whole Gilligan's Island cast, my favorite show as a kid and if i see it on today I'll still watch it and laugh and I'm 55.
Yet another reason to love Mary Ann and Dawn Wells!!
Thank you God for letting me be born in 1965 to watch these shows growing up back then!!!
Dawn Wells is really down to earth and friendly, just like the character she played on "Gilligan's Island". Also, she had a butt that wouldn't quit !
She had those brown legs Rockin and rollin too
Yes, she sure did.
Pat said it all at the end ... "No matter what they've written about it, it outlasted those that did the writing" ... Silly, lovable and immortal!
I watched the entire series during the 1970s after school. Now I have the first season on DVD. The other classic show was The Beverly Hillbillies.
Why stop at Season 1? Get the other two, my good man! I do!
Fact: "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Gilligan's Island", and "The Brady Bunch" all began on September 26. TBH in 1962, GI in 1964 and TBB in 1969.
They were such good friends. He was so kind who made the producers include Maryann and the professor in opening credits. Both were excluded in the first season opening.
Dawn Wells, always beautiful
Loved Mary Ann's little short shorts.
Miss Nevada 1960
1959
Yes, 1959 - two years before my distant cousin won the same title.
Wonderful show. I watch the series every year.
I used to love Gilligan's island. I still do, but I used to, too.
Same. Is that a Mitch Hedberg joke? I like it.
I don't think TV Land had the rights to GI by that point.
Loved this show back in the 70s and 80s. In fact, this show was our babysitter. I sure do miss those times. Thank you Bob Denver and Dawn Wells.
Dawn Wells' line of clothes based on costume design to help people who have difficulty dressing is a great idea -- I've never seen anything advertised like this, and I wonder if such targeted clothes designs now exist and if people who need them know they exist.
25 years later and Dawn Wells realizes Bob Denver was the one who got their names in that song. That's how humble of a guy Bob apparently was.
Dawn wells is one of those women who will stay fine no matter her age.
Sadly she’s finally started to age but still looks way younger than her age.
@Alan Brown
AGREED, absolutely.
I think the reason why people like her is because she would be friendly and nice if you met her on the street.....cute and sweet...
I watched Gilligan as I grew up in the 80s it was on at ,five after cartoons
Beautiful and classy! RIP Dawn!
Dawn Wells is a class act. At 51 she was still beautiful. I miss the 1980's and 1990's when women talk show guests wore "normal" much more conservative clothing.
Dawn Wells was recently diagnosed with dementia. She is living in an assisted living facility in southern California.
Normal in the 80's and 90's??????????? You obviously never watched The Phil Donahue show, or Jerry Springer
@@vicepresidentmikepence889 Nope, never did.
Very cool interview. I had no idea Pat Sajak had his own show. Huge Gilligan's Island fan. Great people.
You will always be in my heart giligan! Or bob!❤️️😭😭
Amen!
Bob and Dawn ..lovely people.. great show.. Dawn was everybody's crush
MY HUSBAND SAID THEY USED TO RUN HOME FROM SCHOOL TO WATCH GILLIGANS ISLAND
Hell yeah! I was born in 1965 but as a kid the show was in reruns. We always dashed home to see the show. I was about 8 yrs old checkin out Dawn's hot little body. Now I'm 56 and even though she passed last month I still watch the reruns on METV. She is freakin gorgeous and had class.
@tonya chapman We all did! And we watched it as teenagers, and when it was rerun from the very beginning about 20 years ago.
great memories watching this show as a kid.....these 2 seem so nice....
Well's is a complete knock out! very very pretty.
