Russell Johnson flew 44 combat missions as a B-25 bombardier in WW2. His plane was shot down and he broke both ankles in the crash. He received numerous awards for his service. The greatest generation.

I read a biography about him. Apparently he loved his role as the Skipper. It never bothered him to be known for that role.
I named one of my dogs Gilligan. He was a stray who was in really bad shape, rescued by a client of the vet clinic where I work. When he was well enough, he was allowed to run around the clinic and he always followed me, so I called him my little buddy. So, when he became my dog, the name choice was obvious.

Actually, although I LOVED both Batman & Gilligan's Island (& still do), they were pretty stupid, insipid shows. Compare them to today's Golden Age of TV (HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Starz, BBC, PBS, AMC, the networks, Amazon Prime, Paramount, etc., etc.). There are SO MANY great, well-written shows today, it's impossible to watch a quarter of them. There's a reason why big name movie actors are falling all over themselves to do TV. Whereas, back in 1983, TV was still looked down on by movie actors. Part of that was unfair stigma, but it's partly because there hasn't been this many great shows since the original Golden Age of TV.

I knew she had guest-starred on Star Trek and The Wild, Wild West, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, but I was also pleased to find out that she had been on McHale's Navy, My Favorite Martian and even The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. '60s tv series had many female stars who ushered us into manhood, even in syndication in the '70s; I'd like to add Marta Kristen from Lost in Space to the list. And in its third and final season, Angela Cartwright(hope I'm spelling it right). She was always a cute kid, who grew up to become a very lovely young lady.

Time is a crazy thing. These people were on THE hits shows in their day. By the time this show was filmed they were well past their prime but still burning bright. Now, almost all of them are dead and most people under 35 would probably not know who any of them were at all. The wheel of time turns on…

I went to the same school, Kennedy High in Granada Hills, California, as Kyle and Leslie, Lee Meriwether's daughters. I was in Drama and met and had some brief encounters with Leslie who was very beautiful and a very sweet person. I do remember a couple of times that Lee Meriwether actually showed up and had some brief conversations with our Drama Teacher. This was in the early 80s..

As a kid growing up in the 80's while I loved my cartoons, used to watch batman, gilligan, 3 stooges, and many others. I used to rush home from the bus to catch the afternoon block of talespin, darkwing duck, ducktales, and more. I couldn't do my homework until I watched my cartoons. Then in the mornings before school or on the weekends I'd watch Gilligan and others. Even to this day I enjoy the old content more. Very few new shows interest me.
