I subscribed to your channel several years ago and my tablet broke and I lost all my channels. I have been searching for your channel again the last several months. It popped up today. Now I can watch all I have missed.
Thank you for the tour!! Took me right back to my childhood! I’m building a little house that will not be wired. I’ve lived (by choice) without wired electricity and without plumbed running water for four years and am not going back. As you alluded, this lifestyle has other advantages and benefits. ❤🎉😊
What a beautiful kitchen! The romantic in me loves it and thinks "gee, how great is that". Then the realist in me takes over and says "not a snowballs chance". I've never, EVER seen an icebox in use. Ma'am, you are hardcore! LOVE IT!
I think you are an inspiration and if we had woke earlier we would have raised our kids the same way but now we are preparing to help raise grandkids in a more wholesome way when our children are so inclined to bless us with some lol sometimes I wish they would hurry up lol sometimes... you are an amazing woman, please put some more videos up soon, thank you!
I like this video even better than the first. It is so much easier to see and appreciate everything. I think it is wonderful that you live as you do and I am more than a little envious. I couldn’t do without that electric coffee maker in the morning though, even with it I’m a total zombie. Your channel and videos are a delight, truly. Thank you for sharing them with us your viewers. Sincerely Dwellyn
You're kitchen is very homey. It reminds me of the kitchen in our first apartment. The building was in the middle of the country, had whole bark covered logs as roof beams, and indeed very old. At the time it was two apartments, but our apartment was HUGE. Our kitchen was this size with lots of old built in cabinets. I kind of miss it having all the indoor space and such a large kitchen. But its been a good trade off because we now have a yard in which to garden.
One more thing. I'm very inspired by how you live. You home is so warm and welcoming and without all the pretentiousness of a modern home with all their appliances and stuff. Your home looks like it does foster a closeness in your family and I hope my husband and I will be able to recreate such goodness for our own little ones. Thank you for this window into your life.
Our last remaining applicance is a washer. It's one thing I can't seem to give up however if I have laundry that needs hot water I either have to heat water for the washer or boil the clothes on the stove. We have talked heavily of giving it up but just haven't got that far yet. When we do we will either make a possum belly style tub with an arm to manually move the wash or simply use a plunger style and bucket. Blessings! The Winans
You all have a nice home and the cook stove looks great and so is the cabinets and ice box you all have there. The stove reminds me of the one my grandparents had when I was growing up. We had to collect, cut up, and bring in wood for both the cook stove and wood heater and kept the house taken care of all year long.
I love the thorough way that you explain why you do things a certain way. We all can watch videos that show pretty country kitchens but you take it a step further. Love the old fridge and the way you made it work for your needs. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
How wonderful.... we are choosing a simpler life and it's nice to see someone already settled in it. I may be too old to boil hot water forever. LOL. Thanks again for letting us in your kitchen.
You have such a beautiful, warm, and welcoming home! I can only hope that in time I'll be able to have a home as 'homey' as yours. All the best to you and yours.
I built my own house after a divorce about 7 year ago. I live in the new house with my new wife and our two boys. I paid for the house as I went and have very similar tastes to what you seem to have. I'm getting ready to install a cast iron cook stove tomorrow. I'm always doing something to the house to make it look older. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'll start watching. Awesome place!
Very very inspiring. It takes a strong dedicated mother to keep a home of this type going on . My paternal family is very similar my Grandma Anniemariah Phillips had 16 children-+14boys-&-2girls and ☝️ one 👦🏼 boy who was three years old when she was cooking on a stove like yours, he was crawling around her feet and she fell over him scalding him with a large pot of boiling water for wash. She lost the baby she was carrying and Gordon the three year old son died of scald wounds the next day . I was always curious what the stove and kitchen looked like and now I have a better idea of what it must have looked like. So small because of the way everything had to be kept. Grandma lived until she was 92yo. Thank you very much for all your wonderful things you share with us and God bless you and your family and may you live a long and healthy life together. Patricia Phillips
I feel so blessed to have found your channel. It would appear there hasn't been much activity here in several months. I pray everything is well with you and yours. I actually found you accidentally but, I was so drawn in that I watched every video in succession. You inspired me to make some major, positive changes in the way my family interacted with each other and for that, we all sincerely thank you. May God bless you and keep you in his loving embrace.
You should never apologize for the beautiful way you and your family live. I love your home! God has blessed you in so many ways, you know this :) and not having all the appliances that others do, I'm sure your food tastes so much better and so much more wholesome!
That is such a nice comment! We can't tell you how blessed we are that people get that impression when they see our home. It sounds as though you desire to give your family such a closeness and as long as the desire is there it doesn't matter your location or surroundings, your family will benefit from the work you put in to create a loving enviorment! Blessings to you and your family! The Winans
My prayer is that my Husband would embrace going "Lights out". I've been ready for 9 years. Blessings to you in all you do . Thank you for your encouragement.
Could you please inform me as to what kind of stove you have, again? A Margin...what? It's beatufiul. Your kitchen is beautiful. My mother and I love the primitive look of the 1800s and have been slowly striving towards it for years. This kitchen is our dream kitchen! Thanks for posting!
You are very generous in your compliments, thank you! It sounds like when you are blessed with grandchildren you have a good foundation laid for what you want to give them! My husband and I too are ready for grandchildren but our oldest son hasn't yet met the young lady God is preparing for him but we await the time. Both our older boys want large families so by God's grace we will have many grandbabies to love and spoil in the old ways. Thank you and my God bless! The Winans
What a wonderful kitchen and everything is beautiful. Yes you are blessed with such wonderful items, and more so with wonderful family and heirlooms to cherish. If I could live as you are, would do it in a heartbeat, however, circumstances prevent this from working for me...however, I look forward to seeing more of your videos in the next days. God Bless
we are getting ready to build a cabin in tn and I have really been torn on weather to have a wood cook stove or propane, we owns 30 wooded acres and we will be clearing some of it for our home, because of your kitchen videos I have decided to go with a wood cook stove, I love the idea of it heating our house and water, as well as cooking our food, thank you so much, you have a lovely family thank you for allowing us into your lives and sharing all the knowledge. we have decided on a modern day cook stove, a Kitchen queen with the water reservoirs,
I don't know if you're still checking the comments here, but I wanted to ask (and of course you don't have to answer)...you said you're in a northern climate and you sound like you're from near where I am from. So I wondered...are you from (or are you living) somewhere around Western New York State? I'm enjoying your videos! Your home is so cozy and inviting. Blessings to you and your family!
I just found you by accident and would love to live off grid and primitive as you do. It is my dream. My husband not quite as much. I will be following you.
i would also like to see a video on how you store your dry good. We have 5 children and storage and buying in bulk is very important to us. I have tried freezing flour but that seem to make it clump up... so any helpful time would be welcome.... thanks Mrs C
Hi, Thanks for the wonderful video. I appreciate all of the videos and can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing parts of your homestead and traditions. I would like to ask you how your husband made you cupboards and table. If he could share measurements to bless others I would appreciate any help. Have a wonderful day, and may God bless you. In Him, Kim
300 pound butcher block? That's a hard to find nowadays. Most materials I use to make furniture, I found in the woods like large twigs and fallen trees, or those along the highway as I drive by. I now have new ideas on what projects to do next. Thank you for the video.
Hi Michele! Thank you so much for subscribing to us and for your wonderful comment! Now concerning where we are from both my husband and I are from Michigan, except for brief period in Arkansas we've been here all our lives which as the years pass seems a considerable about of time :0) Again thank you! Blessings, Lea
I understand doing away with modern appliances. While I still have all the major appliances, my small appliances have been replaced. Cast iron clothes iron instead of electric, no electric coffee pot etc. Once the built in dishwasher dies, I've already talked to the landlord about not replacing it and just making more cabinet space :D I think it makes life more interesting to use "old tech".
It's funny really. My great, great Gran in-law came from these homes, they were her time. Until she died she couldn't stop telling everyone how she loved 'modern' & how we all didn't appreciate having everything so clean lined and fresh looking & convenient. I think your kitchen is gorgeous, but my great, great Gran would have said "no thank you". You have to laugh sometimes. Great video! :)
My grandma is the same! She was horrified when I took her in an antique store once. "This is all the garbage my mom had. We couldn't wait to get new stuff. You like this?!?!". Lol
Hi! Thank you for watching and commenting! Our last remaining applicance is a washer. It's one thing I can't seem to give up however if I have laundry that needs hot water I either have to heat water for the washer or boil the clothes on the stove. Hi and thank you for taking time to watch and comment! We greatly appreicate it! Also thank you for your nice comment about my family: I am very blessed to have the family I do! Blessings: The Winans
Your house is fascinating! I certainly want a wood cookstove for my house and am looking at several brands including European style cook stoves with the covers for the cooking plate. Now I'm curious as to how you all do your laundry. Do you use a James washer or just a couple of wash and a rinse tub with a board? I'd like to see a video on that too. You're really living it and I admire you for this. Very educational. :)
HI There Winans, i love your videos, i hope you have time to make some new ones soon. I saw other comments on the farm house table measurement, i would be interest in a video showing how to make it and a bench. I bought a harvest table that is just wonderful, but i need some benchs to go with it. jsut a simple style bench is what i am wanting to try and make. thanks for any advise or hits on how to make it. thank you Mrs C
Have been watching this video over and over for at least a year, we both love your kitchen and my wife wants me to make a table like yours...We are currently building a cabin in the deep woods of extreme northern Florida ,we get four seasons but can't do a a wood cook stove...Sadly we might install one in our separate kitchen that I will build that is not unlike what the settlers did here in the Deep South...
Hi and I apologize that I never responded to your comment. I remember receiving it and thought I had but see tonight I did not. You are certainly braver then us building in the deep woods of Florida. I am curious as to what kind of things in your climate that you have to watch out for danger such what kind of wild animals etc. As for us it is bears, wolves, and snow :) I love the idea of a summer kitchen! Thank you for watching and again, my apologies for not responding sooner.
Beautiful home! They say Home is where the heart is! I am slowly starting to live that way! No TV no video games but the bad thing is I have this phone! I tried not using the computer but need it for work! Living simply is the best way! Now to try to convince the kids is a whole new adventure!
Hi! That is so funny that mention that tub you saw as we recently had a friend tell us about a similar one that pulled away from the wall in such a fashion. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a comment! Blessings: The Winans
Thank you for watching and commenting, both are very appreicated! I smiled at your comment because it made me remember those are the areas we started changing and they made a huge impact! Blessings: The Winans
i just love watching your videos. im so inspired and want to start making some changes in our life also. maybe in the next house i could get a wood cook stove. he wants a pellet stove but i think a wood stove would be much more practical.i do have a question about the wood stove tho. did you come across any problems with your home owners insurance, dealing with the wood cook stove.a friend of ours was dropped twice due to her wood cook stove. she now claims it unusable even tho she still uses it
Hi! Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. It does sound like a trade off for house space in exchange for garden space is well worth it! But it sounds like you have good memories of your first apartment. My husband and I often remember our first home with foundness, memories are what makes a life in the end :) Blessings: and may all your memories be blessings! The Winans
Hi Claudia, I don't really have many canning videos and non really on how to....I guess I haven't thought about doing them because there are actually a lot of canning videos out there but not on a wood stove, so yeah, those would be fun to do!
Hi Kim: I justed to drop you a quick note and let you know that I'm not ignoring your request, it's just been a very busy week for us. What I had hoped to do was respond to your request via video so I could get some close up shots of areas so can see how they are built along with the measurements but so far it's not worked out so worst case scenario I will have the guys help me measure stuff this weekend and send you info. You said the older step back? Red? Unfinished? or blue one? Thanks!
Hi! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! We have not had any issue with our insurance company(state farm) but we know of people that have had issues with other companies. We had to have it inspected after installation by the county inspector to make sure it was code but then that was it. I would recommend calling and talking with different companies to see what their policies are. Blessings! The Winans
Hi Kim! Thank you so much for your kind comments and absolutely, we would be happy to share any info you would like. If you would like, PM us and tell which measurments you are interested in and also I can share with you any hints on the building. Blessings! The Winans
I was wondering what u do for cooking as far as the stove, I'm assuming it would be to hot to use the stove. Is it more expensive then using an electric or is it cheaper. I'm looking to do something like this, but I don't know how to get started. I'm wanting to learn how to homestead. Do u have any tips u could give me. Thank u.
Hi, I would like to have any measurements for your older stepback cabinet. My husband would like to make me one with the help from our four sons! We don't have access to a lot of power tools so this may be a challenge. :) I would like the measurements for your farmhouse table, also. Thanks for your willingness to share with us. Have a great day! By Grace Alone, Kim
I loved the tour of your home. Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful kitchen.
Thanks so much! 😊

Your kitchen is exactly what I want eventually. Your husband and children are so talented, I'm jealous!

I love all the older stuff there is nothing like quality and craftsmanship in something that was made to last forever:-)
That is a wonderful Kitchen. It encourages one to work with a tidy hand and a respectful heart.

What a lovely, homey, old fashioned kitchen, it is absolutely beautiful!! That's my idea of a dream kitchen! : )

Thank you Cheryl Yankey for such a lovely complement! So glad you came to visit!

You have such a beautiful, warm, and welcoming home! I can only hope that in time I'll be able to have a home as 'homey' as yours. All the best to you and yours.
Fantastic! I'm speechless right now.......

Your house is fabulous. I am definitely subbing. I really admire the fortitude and work ethic that it must take to live so simply.
Your home reminds me so much of a neighbour's from years ago. It looks very "down to earth" comfortable.
Thanks again for sharing your videos.
My prayer is that my Husband would embrace going "Lights out". I've been ready for 9 years. Blessings to you in all you do . Thank you for your encouragement.
What a lovely home! Thank you for sharing the history behind many of your beautiful pieces.
This is sensible, immaculate taste & flair! Marvellous.

I have a Kitchen Queen cookstove and love it! Huge fire box, large oven, and a 27 gallon water reservoir! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
The Kitchen Queen is on my major wishlist.😊
You are very generous in your compliments, thank you! It sounds like when you are blessed with grandchildren you have a good foundation laid for what you want to give them! My husband and I too are ready for grandchildren but our oldest son hasn't yet met the young lady God is preparing for him but we await the time. That stove is a beauty!
I love this kitchen! My kitchen is very pretty, and we live in a 1970shome, but I wish we could rip out my kitchen and set it up more homestead style!
Lovely home! Thanks for sharing.
I just found you by accident and would love to live off grid and primitive as you do. It is my dream. My husband not quite as much. I will be following you.
Beautiful home, thanks for sharing.
Good information. I was wondering which stove I should buy. Thank you. Love your kitchen.
Came on this by accident. Amazing - icebox. The Stove too.
LOVE❤❤❤❤❤
Lovely!
i would also like to see a video on how you store your dry good. We have 5 children and storage and buying in bulk is very important to us. I have tried freezing flour but that seem to make it clump up... so any helpful time would be welcome.... thanks Mrs C

The Winans
I was taught by my great grand mother how to roast coffee beans for fresh brewed coffee in her antique coffee pot the best coffee I ever had
So beautiful
Thank you! Blessings: The Winans
really look nice!! really!
Do you have any canning videos? Can’t seem to find them. Thanks!
Hi Claudia, I don't really have many canning videos and non really on how to....I guess I haven't thought about doing them because there are actually a lot of canning videos out there but not on a wood stove, so yeah, those would be fun to do!
Family Heritage Living: This Pioneer Life Yes, indeed. This will be a great addition to your channel.
Blessings! The Winans
oh and i would too be very much interested in seeing a laundry how to video...
the ice box is awesome
Hi Kim! Thank you so much for your kind comments and absolutely, we would be happy to share any info you would like. If you would like, PM us and tell which measurments you are interested in and also I can share with you any hints on the building.
Blessings! The Winans
Yes they do, just not in our budget right now: but maybe some day. Blessings: The Winans
Thank u.
Hi,
I would like to have any measurements for your older stepback cabinet. My husband would like to make me one with the help from our four sons! We don't have access to a lot of power tools so this may be a challenge. :) I would like the measurements for your farmhouse table, also. Thanks for your willingness to share with us. Have a great day!
