Frugal Homemaking Grandma's Way and What Went Wrong: A Christian's Perspective On God Given Roles

  • When the Christian community lay down the principles of the Bible on which we are to build and live our lives and replace them with directive from secular culture we reap a world of confusion and mayhem in the church, our homes and our lives. It is time we start picking up the word again and applying it to our homes and families.

What a blessing and encouragement it has been to hear this and have the Lord's Word confirmed and affirmed. It's hard. I'm 33yrs old, 15yrs married, grew up in the church but was never taught my biblical role and almost lost my marriage. No wife/mother near me serves the Lord and stays home with children and uses the home to her advantage. God is bring me wise women from around the globe and sharpening my iron. Thank you!!❤🎉😊

Hi charlichad07, thank you for watching and commenting! God is so faithful and true to his word that if we seek his ways, he will show us...even if that means having to bring those from around the world into our lives! The Lord's richest blessings to you!

I'm blessed to be a homemaker, even though sadly, many other women are on the defense to my life at home. I have been degraded by other Christian women for my husband being the head of our home, for staying home, for modest dress. When I did go to work part time, it was to pay off medical debt and medical travel for our daughter. My husband tells everyone that although he works outside the home, that I work far harder and wear many, many hats to provide for our family. The older generations it was just life, they weren't trying to be frugal, they knew no different. Those whom you spoke of in the church, I wonder if the holy spirit was condemning them to seek a more biblical life, and that it was they who were truly offended. I agree we need to talk about this and encourage others to listen to what the Lord is speaking to their heart. Even some NEEDS can be delt with in other ways than spending. I'm glad we got notified on Mike's phone so we could listen while doing dishes and cleaning up from supper.

I think you meant convicting of the jolt spirit not condemnation. Christ does not condemn us as Christians. But yes I agree I should learn myself to be more frugal. I have to work full tie to pay off debt but it’s ok for now because we don’t have kids yet so we can do it. Jesus bless you

Jeremiah 6:16a Thus said Yeho’vah, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves.”
I take this to heart. I believe our Heavenly Father is talking about our whole lives, not just from a spiritual perspective. Doing things the “old way” is so much more rewarding then the modern ways of doing things.

I feel work is a gift from God. The work of the homemaker is to be cherished and respected. I’m not “just” a homemaker, I’ve been chosen by God to be a homemaker. A role that, in His divine wisdom, He chose me for. God uniquely equipped me for the tasks and it is an amazing honor to be the keeper of my home.
Thank you Lea for encouraging us with the heartfelt words. God bless all you do.

I just found your channel today@ I think it will be a real blessing to me. I loved your statement, “I don’t want a career because it interferes with the most important things in my life.” It’s my feelings, I just hadn’t known a good way to express it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and being an encourager.

My husband's grandmother (Nana) once told me a story about when her dil asked her one day if/when she was to have children, would she want to be the "babysitter" and watch her grandchildren if she were to get a job (her husband worked). And Nana told her absolutely not! That was not how God planned for the family.
I remember at the time not agreeing & feeling uneasy bc I was working. But now I'm at home with my kids and I couldn't agree more! ❤

These homemaking videos came at such a perfect time for me. I have been struggling not because I don’t love being at home but for other reasons I previously mentioned. I’ve even thought of going back to college (our society is SO degree based) not because I really want too or even know what I would study but because I’ve felt “less than” as a homemaker. My husband fully supports me being home and gets upset when I struggle. But I think I’m coming out of it with the help of your videos. Just the commonality I feel from your videos is comforting. I need to focus on what’s important. 🧡
I thought it was interesting that you guys were silenced and that so many around you had two incomes. You simply made them feel uncomfortable and they didn’t like that.
I’ve wondered why being a wife and mother isn’t enough for some women or our society.
    Thank you again Leah!!

If you have a supportive husband then you are exactly where you need to be !!! Don’t let the world make you feel less or inadequate, many women work outside the home to get out of the responsibility of raising kids, homemaking and serving her family because it’s not an easy job !!!
      Blessings

Brooke, what your feeling is so common among women like us, who are trying to live a God centered life in a culture who despises anything connected to him. Take comfort that you and your husband have agreed to this, there is no division there. I believe lots of times we feel these things because of distractions from the devil, "a house divided" after all....as you said it isn't because you don't love being at home but you "feel" you should do more...I have found when I feel conflicted and like I need to do something it is often simply a distraction (yes I often give credit to the the devil for this type of distraction because my heart, soul and flesh is often at peace with being home so I feel it is an attack by the enemy) but if he can distract me, then I don't focus so well on what I should be doing. I will tell you something that helps me in many ways, when I seek the Lord in prayer for a "better vision" or a "clearer vision" depending on the situation.....you can fill in the blank there "a better vision of my God given role..." "a better vision of being a godly wife, mother, etc" "a better vision of Him (not a new but a better vision of his greatness, his love his sacrifice on calvary because my mind's vision can be terribly small). I just find God to be faithful and desiring a better or clearer vision in things that pertain to him and his will often helps me focus as I see him or the situation far beyond what my mind often limits me to and then I am either encouraged or in awe!

    💗As always, thank you!
Contentment is key and along with that joy! Both women and men forget that and God called us to have both. It’s a blessing to be the queen of the castle. This unfortunately wasn’t always an option for me, but when God finally opened that door it’s like the heavens opened and I could hear the beautiful singing…why?….because that’s what God intended for me the whole time. I never take that for granted, no matter what sacrifices we have to make.
I believe “the church “ is too concerned about offending and of course money. Sad. But please keep this message coming!!!🥰 Many need to hear it and the rest of us still need that continued encouragement. We MUST align ourselves with the word, not the other way around like you said.
God is good and faithful and if we desire to be more of how He wants us to be then He’ll be there to help guide us and take care of us.
Thank you again and I’m so so so very glad you’re back!💕

I really appreciate you speaking out on this topic. I found that church leadership speaks out of both sides of their mouths on Moms staying home with their kids. Not only pressure from the world to be a 2 income family, but pressure to ‘do ministry’ other than raising children. The idea that ‘just’ being a mother & wife isn’t enough was pretty strong in the churches we attended before we got wise to the duplicity. Thanks for discipling the younger women & validating the older ones who both need to stand firm in what God has put in our hearts.

Leah, I wish I could adequately express in words what is in my heart right now. I love your videos. I have been watching them for years and have missed you, although totally understand you were putting your family first, as it should be. I kept looking for new videos every few weeks, like hoping for a letter in the mailbox from someone dear to you. I'm really glad you are bringing back the Oldsteader name, too. You are embracing who you are and with that comes so much wisdom. I also really like your Family Devotions and the commentary and thoughts. I guess the reason you resonate with me so much is although I am a little older than you I've been home since the early 80s, the Lord is very important in my life, homeschooled, have a very supportive husband, live frugal, even live in a cold climate and have been old fashioned at heart forever. I could go on and on. Thank you for doing what you do on your channel. You are providing great encouragement and are a great voice of experience. Blessings to you and your family. GB

Leah, yes!!! These are such important topics, we are so off base! Our society as a whole and certainly as individuals…as christians! Just because this world offers “abundance”, it comes at the sacrifice of family, home and certainly in a lack of honoring God! Men are made out to be imbeciles and women “can do and have it all!” All I can think to say is, “all that glitters is not golden!” Women especially have been targeted: I think of the Enjoli fragrance commercials…
“Because I’m a woman, “ I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan and never let him forget he’s a man!” Oh my, makes me cringe when I think of how conditioned and led astray!!! Great talk Leah, I look forward to the next.
I can’t wait to share this second chat in my Instagram stories! God bless!

Cindy you are so right! Marketing (propaganda) is the most powerful tool to lead the masses!I'm amazed how many do not realize that indeed, an entire culture is being conditioned to think in a specific way and desire unnatural things...then so many wonder "what has happened to our world" or "why is no one happy". I really believe this is all by design by our enemy, who has been very patient to destroy the things of God within this nation. But by God's grace, the sleeping giant can wake up again and revival can happen, I truly believe this!

Hi 👋 , new subscriber here. Obviously I enjoyed the content of this video ❤. I agree wholeheartedly that the culture as we know it has degraded the family placement and certainly broken down the traditional family unit. I also think that frugality is not a poverty spirit as people seem to perceive. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and he will lead you to paths of righteousness. ❤ I think I got scriptures mixed there. Lol. Anyway he gives us the desires of our hearts if we trust in him. That includes a nice holiday and nice things. Put him first. Not my agenda but Gods. Love and happiness ❤

I'm way past child bearing years. My grandchildren are grown with children of their own. I grew up with parents who lived through the depression and my mother was a stay at home mother. She wasn't happy about it but my dad was in the service so we moved around every 3 yrs. She raised me to not be dependent on anyone for anything. Basically she lived vicariously through choices she made for me. I married to get away from home at 18. I wanted to be a housewife but always felt less than because my mother stayed after me to have a career. I'm much older now and married for the 3rd time (20 yrs in May) to a Christian man who enjoys being doted on. We only wish we had met earlier in our lives but it wasn't the Lord's plan. I absolutely love your channel and I

I understand what you are saying and if both husband and wife are on the same page regarding the mother staying at home it can be wonderful. Unfortunately today that is not very common. If you talk to many homeless women they will tell you they stayed home with their children and no provision was made for them. They get $600-$900/month if they are lucky from SSI. Very sad. So in my case I was raised to work and homelife was not important. I worked 40 years as a medical professional most of which I worked several additional jobs at same time. I was unable to have children but if I had children I would have home schooled them. It is very difficult to make decisions none of us knows what the future holds. Living within Bible standards is difficult in today's society. I know the correct standards and that is how I live my life. You have a lot of great wisdom to impart. Keep up the motivational information!

    • @ArtisanAcre

Hi vixxcottage. Thank you for sharing! What you described is very true and very sad and I believe that is exactly why we need to be talking about this and opening up the conversation, if not for those who are older then for those still have to design their lives. You are so right, that living Bible standards is difficult and that is why we need to encourage each other in doing so. I often think about when I was younger if i would have had a little encouragement from other Christian women in the ways of the Lord on keeping the home or how much stronger I may have felt or more focused and encouraged I may have been. Sometimes we need someone "to lay between the porch and the altar" for us when we feel defeated. With the modern culture, I know it is easy to feel defeated! Keep doing what you are doing and staying focused on the Lord, you will encourage someone, even if you don't know it. The Lord's richest blessings to you!

Yes put family first. Put children first. Wives should not be the primary earner. We can't lose our children to the world chasing after money. We have a business doing various thing. My wife does the cleaning jobs. When she's out working I'm home homeschooling the children. We are never both out working at the same time. We will not pay for child care. Our children come first.

Didn't Jesus kick those money lenders out of the temple ? seems modern corrupt churches have long forget this, convenient. Mothers fathers, working and living at home with their children is perfect :) As a grandparent thats what I'll be helping my own children do.
