Thankyou for sharing this interesting tale of the past Leah :) I remember when I was a child that my nana was very reluctant to get an automatic washing machine. Her children insisted upon it as she aged as they thought it was too much for her to keep filling up the boiler in her outside laundry room, and lifting heavy cotton sheets to go into the hand wringer etc. Nana didn't believe that the washing got as clean in the automatic washer and maybe it didn't? Old habits die hard I suppose. Blessings to you ~ Linda
I remember my grandma treasuring her new automatic electric washer and dryer. I helped her use an electric agitator washer and crank wringer to put out on the line to dry. I was 8 or 9 years old.
I am confused was this turn of century 1973 or 1873? the blueing ...my grandma and great aunt ( sisters ) as a child watched how their mom would bath their small white poodle and use a touch of blueing well they thought they should bath the dog and used way to much so they had a blue dog and yes they caught trouble for this . i worked for a woman cleaning house and she would have me cook starch for her curtains / draperies nice end effect but tedious time consuming

The story I was reading was written in 1973 about the early 1900's. Funny story about the dog bath and bluing!
