    I remember from little house on the prairie books that Almanzo Wilder's mom refused to bake the round ones. She said she didn't have the time to turn something that could turn itself (or something to that effect lol).

    Boy does this bring back memories. My grandmother made some of the best deserts. I remember as a small child she did this in the summer kitchen so as not to heat up the house. She made pies, jams, etc. We would go out & pick berries & fruit. She would turn those into preserves.

    I think my husband is gonna love you. lol. Found this video when looking for how to bake bread in my wood cookstove, and now I have another non diabetes friendly thing to make. lol. We're all gonna die, but it will be with SUGAR! Kidding. If there was a diabetic donut recipe that actually tastes good, I would be on it. But right now I really have to minimize modern wheat due to health issues, but am working on learning so I can use the expensive stuff without crying when I burn it. Thank you for your video!

      P Colvin I totally understand, I crave real home made bread but my brother who happens to be a Chinese medicine practitioner wants me on a gluten free diet and though I have found a half decent gluten free bread it's just doesn't compare to a quality loaf of wheat bread.

    Middle hole maker on the doughnut cutter doesn't get the shearing advantage that the outside cutter is getting. The hole just moves together as a unit with the doughnut, it's basically cutting by pressure only and you will keep having this issue no matter how sharp. I would suggest that you purchase a small circle cutter the same size as the hole ring in this cutter and just do an extra cut after doughnut falls out. However, this will create a more uniform product and you may lose some of the unique character of your fried goodies. Nice video and beautiful charming place, much respect and envy!

    Donuts look delicious, my mom used to make them when I was growing up but not on a beautiful cookstove. I have a question not about cooking but about your long hair....any secret homemade recipes for hair tonics? I remember seeing a video about the Sutherland sisters from the late 1800's and each of the 7 sisters used a special recipe for hair growth and they all had hair that reached the floor and was 4 inches thick in width. I love your videos and everything about the way you live the Simple Life. God Bless you all.

    • @ArtisanAcre
      @ArtisanAcre  10 років тому +3

      Hi and thank you for watching. I used a powder sugar glaze for the the clear one. That simply called for organic powder sugar, 2 to 3 cups, 1/2 stick melted butter and then enough milk to make thin. The chocolate was powdered sugar (3 to 4 cups) soften butter 1/2 stick, 4 to 5 table cocoa and then enough hot water to make pasty. If that one becomes too thick you can thin it later with more hot water. Thanks again!

    Lived this video, how do you save/store your oil for reuse? How often can in be reused?

    • @ArtisanAcre
      @ArtisanAcre  8 років тому +2

      +Sarah pauline Hi Sarah and thank you for watching! Actually I fry foods so seldom anymore that it is worth it to me to just replace it. I do know that many people who fry regularly keep their oils for a year or more and just ad to it as they need to. My thing is many oils when heated too high become carcinogenic. I don't know the specs on long this takes or even if all oils do but again, I fry so seldom that it's just not worth it to me and when I do get in a mood and go on a frying frenzy I don't have a problem using it for a few days but after that I'm done. Hope that helps, you might want to do some research if you don't have any qualms keeping the oil, many folks are fine doing it. And as long as it doesn't go rancid you could use it. Thanks again for watching!

    A lady that knows her way around the kitchen and can produce some nice looking donuts. For doughnuts do you add extra shortening to your basic white bread so they would be more tender.? How deep is the oil in the pan that you are frying with, would a normal 12 inch fry pan work.?

    I had to laugh, my grandmother would have ushered out of the kitchen LOL until your hair was pulled up. LOL She ran a restaurant and hated women to come into the kitchen with their hair down, they would have shut down her shop. I've tried this method, but the dough is not sweet enough, so perhaps it would work as well with added sugar to the recipe. Nothing like homemade donuts and its a technique I hope to master. Thanks for sharing! God Bless!
