Thank you so much for the sketch! It makes perfect sense and explains what I have been doing wrong!! Your advice is very hands on from someone who really knows what they are talking about and has experience!
@@ellenhaben1217 Oh I am so sorry for your loss! I found his videos when I was searching for resources to help with my new passion and I cherish the knowledge in them. And I now have a lot of African Violets thanks to his tips!
Wow! What a great video on African Violet babies, the best I've seen yet. Rick's laid-back attitude and easy to follow instructions make it a pleasure to watch. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I’ve recently returned to your violet videos, and noticed you don’t post anymore. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos and the information you share. I hope you are well!
I watched a few videos on the propagation by now, but yours was by for the most informative. I had no idea that each plant actually grows more than one baby, and your drawings made so much sense! It's my first time trying this with four leaves that I got from my mom, and I was trying to figure out how big the babies need to get before separating them. Your video gave me all the answers. I need to be a bit more patient :) Thank you again.
Just wanted to come back & say thanks for making this. My mom had a dying 16 year old african violet so I watched this & took a cutting. After 10 weeks it sprouted today !!!!!! I can't wait to show her, she's going to flip !!! LOL Edit: How I did it was cut off the bottom 2" of a water bottle, cut drain holes then added soil, the cutting & put it in a sandwich baggie left open a little for air flow.
Solo cups, hot nail and mask...genius! Why didn’t I think to make these! Thank you for that money saving tip! Beautiful violets. I look forward to purchasing one and eventually trying this amazing tutorial myself. 😊🌱
The drawing was perfectly understandable doesnt need to be an artistic painting dear. Is explains is very good and now i know so much more how to propogate a leaf Thanks hun. Love rose 🌹❤🌹
Thanks. I'm very, very new at growing African Violets, but I am able to grow them. I just got a violet plan my Mom had growing in her kitchen window for a few years and never bloomed. I took it up to my room and watered and fed it and it's got almost 10 buds and 1 beautiful pink bloom.
I LOVED the drawings (and the rest of the video too.. ) It really helped make clear the idea. I hadn't heard yet WHY you cut at an angle. That makes sense! Nice Video! Thank you
Your sketches are excellent much better than I could make I guess that's all that practice you had is an engineer! You are such a great teacher... I've never been good at African Violets but I think if I watch all your African violet videos maybe I'll be successful
Just found your video! Better late than never! Thank for creating it. I had an accident with my very old African Violet, broke the stem right off when I dropped it. I saved all the leaves and put them in water. They've all grown roots and I'm going to repot them today!
Okay, Rick L. you get another applause this morning within 10 minutes. Here is another illustration you put out that totally hit a homerun. I needed the reasoning your "crude" illustration shows at 4:56. This lesson will help me right now, as I have 16 rooted Gloxinia leaves waiting to be planted from glass containers along my kitchen widowsill. Thank you again this morning. :-) Date: December 29, 2017
I saved one from Lowe's. They sold it for $1. It was near dead. I took it home & nurtured it. It has multipled & is now almost 7 years old! Great video, I will cut at angle from now on.
Mine are about ready to transplant! I’m probably going to steal some more leaves from my grandma and try cutting them on an angle! I started with 6 total and I have 4 with babies! What a learning process! I agree this is a great hobby :)
Thank you for a good tips on how to grow a new violet plants. I love plants and gardening and your tips helping a lot to get better results in new plants. Please keep posting your knowledge on how to because it’s very helpful. God blessed you
I am just learning about violets and it is amazing how badly they want to reproduce. I have a feeling I could end up with a lot of them. You have given a key to doing just that. They seem so innocent, the plant your Grandma and your mom had and meanwhile they are a powerhouse of surviving if they are treated right.
You are so good at these videos! The drawing was perfectly clear & simple, great explanation! Loved it, and the tip about brushing soil away from the stem, over the roots, made a wonderful demo. I went right over to my box of leaves to check, did the brushing & found two sets of babies just under the soil. And they are saintpaulia ionantha too. So happy, thanks so much for all you share with us. I sent a couple of ladies from a facebook group to the 'Mistakes' video, hope you don't mind, it was a really great help to them as they had the same trouble. Thanks again for your love of this hobby!
I never knew that it was important to cut the stem at an angle and plant the leaf shallow! I just planted 12 leaves… And I did it all wrong! Just planted them two days ago, so will pull them out of the dirt and start again! Thank you so much for this very informative video!
I am getting ready to do this and thank you for the video. I have many leaves that are ready for transplanting, so wish me luck on doing this only thing lacking is the cups..........
You seem to be the best to me when it comes to propagating African violets. I'm completely stumped, I have had a leaf for almost 3 months now. Still looks very good , completely alive and looks as good as the first day. I decided to pull it gently out to see if there is any sign of anything. It has grown roots. Good looking roots . What on Earth do I do now ?? This was my last leaf to a plant that did not make it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. thank you
Thank you, I know it seems like a dumb question but to us newbies it's not so easy . Thank you again for answering not many people take the time to answer
Thanks for the great info Rick. I planted a single leaf about 3 months ago and yesterday I saw one baby leaf poking through the soil. It was a good inch from the mother stem. Hope it survives. There was a second stem without a leaf. May not be a hardy baby. Will wait and see. Fingers crossed.
