You can ake a hold for a funnel and put in the watering hole..i dont know who likes water methodneither lol appreciate your honesty! My mom does soil in a DQ cup and lid..nearly perfect rate of propagation.❤
I propagate my African violets in water always. I can see roots within a month. I use shot glasses to grow mine. I keep the water level just a bit over the bottom of the stem keeping it always in water. The shot glass holds the leaf up and it won't fall deeper in the glass.
Drying the cutting a few hours or more really helps to keep them from going soggy. I do it when i use soil. But ive been very successful doing it in water also.
It was a simple mistake, why are people triggered. Tbh, respect for not taking this down, everyone starts somewhere and she keeps owning up to it in the replies of everyone calling her dumb. 👏🏾👏🏾
I’ve use tinfoil. You can also create a collar that holds the leaves upright. It’s also all easier and more stable for lifting to water or check the roots.
Best way is to use a piece of aluminium foil stretched over a wine glass full to the brim with tap water. Make about 5 holes using a kitchen skewer. Leaves stay dry. Roots in a few weeks. Never fails.
Wow, so many angry critics! Easy to criticize, especially sitting on your couch behind a screen. So sad what our world has come to. If someone not adding water first doing a friendly experiment (and uploads their unedited/non heavily edited version) is the worst thing ever, enough for you to feel worthy of attacking someone, be thankful your life has so few bad things in it. Thanks for uploading the video and doing the experiment.
I would suggest that you put only one leaf per container for the leaves in water; that way, the roots of the various leaves don't tangle together as they grow, and they won't have to be separated (which is a nightmare job, as the roots are very fragile and easy to damage).
For people who do actually propagate an African violets from stems, we don’t let them grow that many roots. There will be very tiny short little roots. I have done this before many times successfully actually. As soon as they come out like 5mm stubs, we immediately plant them in propagating and seeding soil. So it’s ok to actually put multiple stems in a container like this. We do this so that to decrease the chance of rotting stems before rooting. It’s not necessary to grow big root systems in African violets. African violets themselves have very shallow root system even a mature plant. That’s why we normally plant them in a shallow container.
I have propagated av leaves in both soil and water and when I need to prop a leaf (like when you used tape) I use a saran wrap "pillow" In water, I know when to plant the leaf when I see little baby leaves along with the roots. Also I love the glad press n seal for rooting in water.
I use a shot glass it holds them up and space saver also if you leave the stem that long yes it will root but the long stem takes forever for the babies because the roots are to deep in the dirt
changing the water provides the roots with oxygen and will produce lots of roots and will avoid growth of fungi or bacteria; leaves rooted in water are provided with oxygen each time the soil is watered.
Hi! I am new to your channel. Can’t wait til April to order!! Setting up lights and possibly a small humidifier.. I live in Arizona and it gets very dry here in the summer🙁. Hope my new babies will do well. Just a tip for you, when I used leaves with plastic over glass, I turned my leaves backwards so they would not lean forward at the stems😉 looks as though you got them all to sit upright tho, lol. Can’t wait to see which medium will work best!
It's coming soon Lynn, I checked them yesterday and there is a tiny little bit of growth so I just have to film it now... on the to do list for the next few days. xx
I always root my leaves in half-and-half, perlite and vermiculite, watering with pure water, no fertilizer, until there are plants on the leaves. Then fertilize, very dilute, with every watering, like all my other plants. It’s very interesting to see this experiment!
Hello Lynn, that does happen, I checked on these yesterday, some have started rooting and I have to film it but there is one of the leaves that is rotting... I don't have the answer for this as rooting in water is not my thing but I would think they are more prone to rotting in water than in soil....
You may be drowning them. I only expose a small part of the tip and use a small coffee pod which already has a whole on the bottom. I place a stone inside the pod, put the leaf in and place the pod inside a container with water. When I add water to the container, I make sure that only the end of the leaf (around 1/2") is touching the water. So, far it has worked.
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot my password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Kendrick Maurice i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hello Troy, I am no expert in starting leaves in water, this was an experiment to show how it works and we will see what happens. I am however an expert in starting the leaves in soil, please go to the first videos on my channel and you will find one called how to propagate african violet leaves, if you follow those directions, you will probably have more success. Good luck, Tina xx
I have done this experiment putting them in water you're going to get beautiful African violets but with no blooms been there done that had beautiful African violets but with no blooms now putting them in soil and after they put off their offspring of 7 to 8 maybe 9 baby offsprings and putting them in soil again individual Dixie cups works best for me and when they matured into a beautiful African Violets they all bloomed
I am with you on this one Jonathan. I am not a water propagator either, I do it all in soil but wanted to do this experiment since I received a lot of questions on water propagation and couldn't answer the questions. It's just a fun little experiment. Thank you for sharing, Tina xx
L Walton is correct ... I have never been able to answer this question and this is what inspired me to make this video, finally, we will know... I prefer the soil method 100% but it is faster ? that is what we shall see from this experiment. xx
For me, leaves in water never disappoints me.it roots so fast in water, dont know why.and for those leaves to stay in place, i use small pieces of styrofoam.or u can use any lil pieces like charcoal, or small roll of tissue paper.
Thank you for sharing Joon. My favorite method is soil because it is just a one time action (plant and forget) ... in the water we have to put them in water, check on them and then transfer to soil (so two actions) however, I am enjoying the science experiment and I am also aware that many like you love the water method so it all makes sense to do this experiement. Happy growing and thank you for sharing. xx
I don’t you’ hear you use God name in vain, you probably don’t realize that you are use God name in vain! But every time you use the Lords name anyway only then Praising the Lord you are used his name in vain! And God hold you Accountable for that & Lord hold me accountable if I don’t tell you or anyone Else’s! God bless you

Yeah, I know, figured that out as I was doing it... I have a dummy side haha. That was one of my very first videos, I wasn't very prepared and just went with the flow.. lol xx
You can ake a hold for a funnel and put in the watering hole..i dont know who likes water methodneither lol appreciate your honesty! My mom does soil in a DQ cup and lid..nearly perfect rate of propagation.❤
I like how down to earth way of explaining and love the way you going through with every one all the process and problem solving 🤣
I propagate my African violets in water always. I can see roots within a month. I use shot glasses to grow mine. I keep the water level just a bit over the bottom of the stem keeping it always in water. The shot glass holds the leaf up and it won't fall deeper in the glass.
GOOD JOB THANK YOU
Drying the cutting a few hours or more really helps to keep them from going soggy. I do it when i use soil. But ive been very successful doing it in water also.
This is taking an eternity! I could have gone to the store and back by the time this gets close to being done.
Did you get forced to watch at gun point? Scary!!
Why did you not first fill the conbtainers with water before covering them
❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊 I love your video more videos pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
It was a simple mistake, why are people triggered. Tbh, respect for not taking this down, everyone starts somewhere and she keeps owning up to it in the replies of everyone calling her dumb. 👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you! I just transferred my fresh leaves from water to my mix (50/50 perlite AV mix in a closed container works perfect for me.)
Anyone know where to find part 2 the follow-up results?
I’ve use tinfoil. You can also create a collar that holds the leaves upright. It’s also all easier and more stable for lifting to water or check the roots.
Hi. I would like to suggest adding the water to the container first, and it will help hold the leaves up.
thank you for the input Julie, next time I will try this xx
Yup, correct
Best way is to use a piece of aluminium foil stretched over a wine glass full to the brim with tap water. Make about 5 holes using a kitchen skewer. Leaves stay dry. Roots in a few weeks. Never fails.
I always start my new plants in water. It works perfect

Thanks for uploading the video and doing the experiment.
Not attacking just suggesting to make her life easier
❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊 I love your video make more videos pleaseeeee! And make more money! 😅
Thank you ! I was stuck not knowing wat to do next and when to divide the babies !thank so much great information.

Thank you for sharing Monica, I have a new science project started (not uploaded yet) in which I do use smaller cups like you suggest... Tina xx
You should put water in the container first before putting the leaves.

Helpful trick use a glass circle bead with a big hole in the middle that the stem fits thru its heavy enough to stay put and holds your leaves upward
What's a glass circle bead?
@dana102083 wish I could send a picture. It's about the size of a nickle it has a hole in the middle it a jewelry bead
Shorter leaves do better and get more babies if cut on 45 degree angle.
Why not put the water in container first?
I’m going to try this! Thanks for sharing.Peace
Thank You For The Information Just Got African Violets Very Glad I Found Your Video! New Subscriber
welcome to the hobby and hope you will enjoy it. xx
Hi, what is the update? Did it work?

thank you for the tip Sheri. The part 2 of this video is out so if you haven't seen it, you can find it here ua-cam.com/video/lP9m54Gzm4k/v-deo.html
Sheri Leger where do you order from?
Fertilizer should NOT be added until about a month into the rooting process.
Can’t Wait for the results 🙏🏻
It's coming soon Lynn, I checked them yesterday and there is a tiny little bit of growth so I just have to film it now... on the to do list for the next few days. xx
I can't believe how such a simple task she does it so complicated

Just put the water in first

Cute little tags, what did you make them out of?
Any updates?🙂
I have also tried to root them in the water, they just start rotting, why is that?
But I am not giving up I will keep trying
Hello Lynn, that does happen, I checked on these yesterday, some have started rooting and I have to film it but there is one of the leaves that is rotting... Instead of tape, you can place couple of stones behind the stem. Also, leave/make a hole on the plastic at the edge of the rim to add water.
Lynn Wollman
She doesn’t know why, she’s trying it for the first time!
Do u let the cutting dry a bit ? I find it works a lot better.
Y cual es el resultado de su experimento?
♥️♥️ thank u!
En español por favor
such a fun experiment :) looking forward to the updates
Add the water and the fertilizer first before putting the saran wrap.
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?

@Kendrick Maurice i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Kendrick Maurice It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
I tried that before, but my leaves always turn brown wither and die. What am I doing wrong?
Hello Troy, I am no expert in starting leaves in water, this was an experiment to show how it works and we will see what happens. I am however an expert in starting the leaves in soil, please go to the first videos on my channel and you will find one called how to propagate african violet leaves, if you follow those directions, you will probably have more success. I find that changing the water during the rooting process does help.
@@smokeykitty6023 Thx!
Won't it be better to put water first? :)
Probably, that is my little dummy side not knowing what I am doing lol
I use tin foil n poke hole n place leaf in..let leaf sit out for a day or 2 b4 putting in water..put water only half way up the stem..
I’ve done this idea instead of growing roots, they rot
You should have put the water in 1st. The African Violets do not like water on the leaves. Every good video though! 😁
I have done this experiment putting them in water you're going to get beautiful African violets but with no blooms been there done that had beautiful African violets but with no blooms now putting them in soil and after they put off their offspring of 7 to 8 maybe 9 baby offsprings and putting them in soil again individual Dixie cups works best for me and when they matured into a beautiful African Violets they all bloomed

which is the best way to start new leafs. in water or soil. which one is more quicker to grow
We shall see! (It's an experiment ;))
L Walton is correct ... I have never been able to answer this question and this is what inspired me to make this video, finally, we will know... I prefer the soil method 100% but it is faster ? that is what we shall see from this experiment. xx
You should 've put the water in before the plastic.😂😂

no outcome????????
Oh my gosh! Take was it that hard to figure out the water? 🤣
😂😂😂
subtitles in spanish please
Why not rooting hormone? Mama Long
Hello Sharon, I didn't do the rooting hormone in this experiment but I have did it in other experiments... xx

You should have put the water in first, hello!!
я сажу сразу в торф + тепличка
Why didn’t you put water first before putting the cover or plastic? That would have been common sense.
Yeah, I know, figured that out as I was doing it... I have a dummy side haha. That was one of my very first videos, I wasn't very prepared and just went with the flow.. lol xx
