This is easily the best propagation video anyone has made, of any kind of plant, at least of any that I've seen. Such a wonderful job. Your voice and quiet energy helped me get into a meditative state. You had the perfect amount of instruction, not too much or too little, and explained it so easy to follow. Great camera work too, I could see clearly everything you trying to show me. Just fantastic!
I love all your videos! It makes me so upset when people give you a thumbs down?? Why on earth do you feel the need to give her a thumbs down when she's showing us amazing ways to grow plants? Don't let those negative people bother you, you're so gifted with plants. I appreciate everything you're doing!
I have mixed emotions on this. Although the content is very good, she takes an inordinate amount of time to do so. I’d play at double speed but that makes her accent impossible to discern. I’ll stay on the fence and give neither thumbs up or down.
Thanks so much for making this series of videos on African violets. I have learned so much, most importantly, I have learned everything that I have been doing wrong. Maybe I can correct these mistakes now and have healthy plants. Thanks again.
Thanks you so much for sharing this informative blog. But one clarification please. What about watering after the planing the leaves. How many days after the new babies will come out? Thanks again.
This is helpful, thank you. I have four leaves in pots in moist but not soaked soil and they don’t look like they are doing great. I’m going to redo them using your method instead. I think if I leave them as they are that they will rot out. I appreciate the knowledge being shared. Thanks again.
Great video! Did you put the cuttings in a plastic bag or humidity dome? I have done one cutting potted in regular soil then put into a plastic bag for 2 weeks. It is out of the bag now and doing well but no babies. It has been a month. Possibly the soil is packed too tightly? I am interested to try with the perlite vermiculite mixture as u said it was easier for new leaves to pop through. Thank-you! Violets are my favorite.
How long before babies sprout? Do you need to water any more times after the first watering before the babies sprout while they're in the bag? When is the second watering needed and when do you start a regular watering cycle? How often do you water young and mature plants? Well made video. Thank you, I'm going to try to save my mom's violet plant that is dying so I can give them to my siblings as gifts. My mom went to be with the Lord just over a year ago.
Thank you so much for the simple and careful way to propagate. I have watched sooo many videos. Yours is simple and quite obviously effective. I Have adopted my mother in law’s AV’s and I am trying to learn all I can. They are overgrown with a couple of mothers in each! They have the scaly stems that are 2”-3” long. I know I must repot them to thrive. That’s where I get scared. They were her mothers too. Wish me luck, and please if you ever receive this; I will love and appreciate any tips or hints. You are wonderful, thank you.
I used your method and was able to get baby violets from nine leaves. It took about two months before the babies showed up. I am now trying to grow them out, having separated them from the first leaves, and more babies are growing from the first leaves. Growth is very slow, though, and some of the babies have withered away. Some look strong but grow very slowly. I have a new batch from another violet. I planted the leaves June 15th, and put them in a closed container. Almost to the day, August 15th, the first baby emerged from one of the leaves. It is now September 1st, and no more babies have shown up. The leaves are all rooted and look healthy. I wonder what is taking so long. Thank you for all your informative videos.
New subscriber...., I really enjoy your videos, very informative! I never had luck with Africa violets , I’m going to try your tips. I love to garden but never grew houseplants & orchids, buying now so I can have gardening fir next winter
Wow, you have great success with violet leaf propagation. My method is touch and go. I only have 50%success. I stick the leaves in potting mix and water them often. Placed in a sunny window.i made 2pots recently each holding 2mother leaves. One pot has given me 5tiny leaves. The mother leaf stem rotted off The other pot still no babies. Its Mother leaves are still healthy. What are your thoughts? should I move the soil to look for babies?
+jainy alex Thank you! Whenever you see the top is dry ( perlite becomes white and it separates from vermiculite) that time you water them. It depends from you area how humid or dry air is there.
+myboibill Thank you for watching and for your comment! I like putting some soil in bottom because it is easy to see the roots and at the same time they get used to it... For many reasons I do like that. In my videos I forget to mention everything most of the times.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I never thought of adding perlite to vermiculite when rooting. Would you share your recipe for the African violet soil that you make, please!
+Doreen alexander you are welcome. Thank you for watching my videos. Here is the link for African violet potting soil. ua-cam.com/video/q7D-A41xb9o/v-deo.html
Thanks for showing a new way to propagate. We used to use water in which we put the leaf stalk which rooted as tiny leaves grew around the parent leaf then potted into compost with vermiculite and perlite mixed in
I have two big, healthy violets grown from leaf cuttings. But they have never bloomed. I use Schultz African Violet Plus 8-14-9. Do you have any advice? They are 1.5 years old.
I know this is an old post/question but if African Violets are not blooming it usually is because they are not getting enough light. You Never want full sun on them but they appreciate very bright light conditions. Hope this helps!
Do you water after you put leaf in the soil mixture? And then again after babies appear then wrap in plastic bag? I am a little confused. I love African violets and used to be able to grow them but recently they dies on me. I would like to try again. Thank you for your reply.
Been doing this for years. Problem is too many now. Keep giving plants away after inheriting my Mums large collection. It's too addictive. Now i cant throw away any leaves.
Do you guys won leaf faster roots just dump tham in some glass jar sprey 3 pumps water and close the lid don't open the til getting roots this is the most fastest way very E Z 100 % GARANTİ 👍👍
Thanks a lot. Yes, many times they rooted. That’s why I showed how to do it. I never show something that I never tried myself. Even I have a violet that is growing lots of babies from the flower spike.
Hi Emaans. I have been watching your channel for awhile now. I love it. I tried propagation and I was so excited when I saw the first sign of the babies. They have been growing really slow. It’s been really cloudy here, so I wanted to give them some vit D a little sunshine. They were only outside for a couple of hours and it wasn’t even hot. I was devastated when I brought them back inside. Can they be saved? Most of the leaves look like they burned. On one of the babies, the mother leaf is completely dead. But, it’s to soon to separate them. Help!!!
Just want you to know I am subscribed to your channel and want to be notified when you post new videos but I am not able to maintain being subscribed for some reason and am not getting notified of your new postings. I can only get your videos from 3-4 years ago.
Thank you for your video. I have a question to you or anyone who would know here: where can I buy an eyedropper this huge and how is it called? Thanks again
+Sandra Binion I add fertilizer every time to the water. I use different fertilizer for my AVs. I don’t use the water after my orchids for my AVs. But for the rest of my plants I use it.

+Kris Born yes, you can dampen the soil little bit but not perlite and vermiculite mix. It would be hard to put the leaf in , if it is wet. You are welcome!
