Captur is much better than the Peugeot, brighter inside, more comfortable, agree with the driver.

The wireless charger in the Renault is underneath the floating console with the floating console option. Also the little 'mobile' holder is actually for the car fob which you can rest it in :)

Going for a Captur for my partner. She likes the Captur because it has an easy layout. My partner doesn't want sporty handling, she wants boot space and a satnav.. She's not bothered about fuss. That said she really likes the captur in Grey. My job is to make her happy. Bob, you're the first motoring journalist to tell it straight for people like my Sue. Thank you.

It's not a robotised manual in the 2008.
It's the EAT8 torque converter auto.
Peugeot gave up with robotised manual boxes a few years ago.

I think he's wrong about the lack of wireless charging too, there's a chaging pad under the "floating" console. As we have both a Peugeot (albeit a 3008) and a 2020 Caprtur, I have to say that the EAT8 gearbox with torque converter is always going to be a better gearbox than the Captur 's 7 speed twin clutch box.

    • @jgreen8339
      @jgreen8339 3 роки тому +3

@@davidrolfe9571 I agree with you. I would say it'd be more reliable especially if used to trundle around town which may wear out the EDC clutches. Not a problem with torque converter auto. Really pleased to hear you are enjoying your cars David.

One of your best vids! 👍
Peugeot is cool, especially in design and lil gimmicks, but Renault really seems better.
Recently drove new Puma and maybe would be my pick of those silly crossovers.
The Captur I got for a shoot, had wireless charge port and that lower cubby is for the key. For locking and unlocking all the time, just leave one door slightly open.

EAT6 & EAT8 used by PSA group cars is not a Robotised manual ... it’s developed by Aisin and is an electrically controlled torque converter gearbox ..... no clutch is or has been near that gearbox.
Also the small steering wheel, particularly in the 3008 makes for a much better driving position and posture for people with lower back issues as you have the wheel lower and the I-Cockpit above it as a HUD, so you’re body is more relaxed when driving than hunched.

I got my new Renault Capture plug in hybrid last week here in Sweden. Drove back and forth to my mountain house this weekend, in total 140 km on 1,5 litres of petrol(!). Fully charged in town before leaving and charged while in the mountains before returning to town. Love the build quality of the Capture and the fact that I can drive fully electric for at least 50 km. Downhill from the mountains the hybrid kept the battery fully charged by kinetic energy for a big part of the distance. I'm very satisfied with my choice of car so far! Downsized from my VW Tiguan. My biggest worry is if I can do without the 4WD. 😊

Thanks for the reviews Bob. I don't know if it's the same there but I was surprised to find that in the UK the Renault doesn't come with heated seats on any of the Captur trim levels. You can only spec it as part of a Luxury pack with leather seats for approx £800 I think (and according to the local dealer and the brochure). Bit strange for 2020.

    • @glenncole7721
      @glenncole7721 3 роки тому +1

I noticed that too Gary. I am looking at new cars. I don't need a big car & love the looks of the smaller 208 GT Line in faro yellow. To my surprise though, it doesn't come with heated seats which is a 'must' for me. You can't even spec them as a separate, stand-alone option here in the UK. If you want heated seats on the 208, you have to fork out £1,400 GBP for full leather (which I don't like, want or need) in order to get seats that are heated. A crazy amount of money! So, I have been looking at the 2008 GT which does come with heated fabric seats as standard. Even the lower GT Line version has heated seats as standard. The 2008 is a bigger car than I need... not THAT much bigger... but I prefer it to the Captur.
I still haven't made my mind up 100% what to go for. I must have watched a thousand UA-cam car reviews this week alone!!!
Thanks by the way Bob for yet another fantastic car review. Always look out for your thoughts on new cars & I appreciate the hard work it takes in order to bring us all the latest.

I actually bought a Renault Capture Iconic 9 months ago and love it to pieces. It drives like a dream, smooth acceleration and is eye catching inside and out! I was intending to but a Peugeot 2008 but was put off by the 'typewriter' keyboard as it seemed too fiddly to use whilst driving. Due to the lockdown I've done just over 2,000 miles in that time which is just enough to get a proper feel for it. Well done Renault you came up trumps!

I traded in a 3yr old 3008, nice car. So I know a lot about the steering wheel, iCockpit buttons (lack of), and the auto gearbox (being a bit jerky)
Got very similar trade in values on Peugeot e2008 GT and Renault Captur S-Edition PHEV. Nearest spec/spec comparison apart from one being full EV.
I found I got a lot more inclusive spec with the Captur, like two tone body, dash displays, wheels, ++.
e2008 was lot more expensive, closer to 4K and not 1.5K.
On this comparison review, the two tone colour, and the black package (wheels) are examples of extras on the Peugeot.

The Peugeot 3D i-Cockpit , something that made me to buy this car over Renault Capture. It is a 3D gage cluster that will knock your socks off. Never seen in any car before. I am so happy I have chosen Peugeot 2008 GT . That triangular things are also spectacular and they are part of its amazing design.
The only drawback is possible is its air con activation system which you will get used to it from time to time.
I had Renault Megan in the past and loved it a lot, no problem with that .

I go through a truck loads of heavy metal music on a daily basis, it is crisp and clear you just need to play around with sound settings and it's totally fine , maybe not the best , but not the worst either.

Thanks for the review Bob which I only just came across. I do have some comment though regarding stuff you missed (which others may have already pointed out) regarding the captur. First off, you missed a hell of an important feature with the back seat. it slides back and forth (done with a very easy handle in the boot) and when at its forward position will increase boot space by 100 liters to 522.
Another thing is you mention no Wireless charging pad, but that's exactly what the pad under the floating council is. And the little space you thought was for a mobile phone (I can't think of a single phone on the market today that would fit in there...) is actually a space for the key card.
Re the 2008, it does not come with a Dual Clutch (the Captur does), but a standard 8 speed identical to the one found in the 3008/5008 and the rest of the Peagour offering.
Also, Re the space in the back, the peugeot is without a doubt tighter, and would not fit 3 kids comfortably while the renault would.
You are right though, this two cars ore top of their game in the SUV-B class.

    • @JohnJohnson-jm8ku

Those sliding back seats are really important to me, because I usually drive alone or with my wife. It's so practical. I could never buy an SUV without a sliding back seat, because it would seem as if the car was faulty.

My partner has ordered the Capture going from previous model 2008 because she didn’t like all the angles along the side of the new 2008 plus, the Captur
has more specs inside, better seats and as she says, it just looks nicer.
I have a 3008 so she is used to the styling just prefers the Captur and I, am probably going for the new Arkana, agin because it seems more spacious in the driving seat with better headroom plus, it’s just different to everything else out there.

  • @williammartin5734

Your "phone holder" in the Captur is in fact to hold the key fob, it would also be beneficial for your viewers to know that the rear bench on the Captur is able to slide back and forth allowing you to prioritise luggage or passenger legroom. Captur for me. I would also consider the Skoda Kamiq or VW Taigo on this sector.

Same for glove box, I can't even remember my grand parents keeping gloves in their cars, why are they called glove boxes when they are used to store only car manual with tiny space left for other junk. I'm waiting to see the new VW Taigo. ITs difficult,to choose but based on what you require from a SUV I have to say the one that is most practical
and useful so far, is the Skoda. I think they are underrated. I will wait to see the Taigo and how much that is. The Renault to my mind looks high in the bonnet, I think
the line should be just over the headlight not like 3" higher. The Peugeot, looks the better but not sure about the steering wheel and whether you can see the dials.

Hi Bob, great review my friend.
Greetings from Cumbria in the UK.
I totally agree with your review. I too would choose the Renault over the Peugeot - even though the Puggy is a pretty car.
I just hate the idea of stupid touch screen air con activation - could be bloody distracting and should be outlawed, but that’s my opinion.
We have had two Renaults and 1 Peugeot before: an original Renault 5 and the last shaped Laguna. The Puggy was a 406 estate. All of these
Vehicles offered good road manors and great long distance comfort - as the Captiva.
However, the Captiva maybe cheaper than the 2008 but it’s more expensive (probably) than the Duster which can be 4x4.
Knowing the roads and winter driving where I live I’d be more persuaded to go to the Dacia dealership.
Until next time, stay safe and well.

*Well done I love it [The Captur Friend has one] however 48.3 MPG my Mercedes (W247) B200CDi AMG has averaged 57.6 mpg over 6200 Miles and had achieved 85.6 on a 108 Mile run, average Speed 53 mph so a no brainer for me too. Engine is so quiet you would think you are in an Electric Car. In ECO Mode Gearbox (8 Speed) disengages and you coast/freewheel which adds hugely to its economy. My lifestyle is not about 0-60 or top speed (although will do 143.6 mph as have done on German Autobahns) but more aligned to Space, Grace & Pace. OK Costs a bit more but residual values after 3 years - did you really do your **_maths_** fully?*

Hi Bob, another great, honest review. I agree with you except I do think the Captur has it on looks too! I think the Captur does 90% of things well. It would be a nice touch if it had smart seating where the rear seats themselves (not the seat backs) were able to fold up out of the way. I think that some Citroens have this feature - I’ve seen it somewhere anyhow. I also wonder why more manufacturers don’t give you things like removable boot lights, windscreen ice scrapers in the filler cap and fold out washer bottle filler neck as in the Camiq. The Camiq even has an umbrella tucked into the drivers door (nicked from Rolls Royce, I believe). Thanks again from Milton Keynes - racetrack city.

Due to the cost of living,I’m actually trading my e2008 GT Premium 21 plate which is costing me £450pm on a pcp to a 20 plate Captur S Edition. You’ve put my mind at rest a little as to your thoughts on it against the 2008. I do like the Peugeot a lot, especially in the Orange Fusion colour I have, but gotta think about that horrendous monthly payment. Hoping I’m not downgrading as such as I think I am.

I'm slightly biased, owning a 2016 1.6 dci Renault Kadjar, I'd have the Renault and I'm totally with you Bob on the touch screen interface on the Peugeot as my wife used to have a 308 with a similar layout and though I never really drove it, it used to annoy me when if you wanted for example heating you had to navigate your way through several menus ultimately distracting you from the road if for example as you would be, listening to the radio at the time. I've had quite a few Renaults and though I've never owned a Peugeot I'd have the Renault everytime, to me it's better built and laid out and ultimately as much as I love the sound of a diesel engine, a petrol engine is supposed to be a little bit quieter even when revved and the Peugeot as someone else said sounded more like a diesel when revved on account of it being a 3 cylinder. Bottom line is if you haven't already figured this out is that I'd have the car with the big diamond on the front though I'm glad living in Northern Ireland as I do that I'm not paying your road tax as 270 Euro vs 150 pounds for the Renault is scary and I only know from Nobby on cars' review of the same car that that is the case. Good review though.

As a dog owner , I would go for the Renault solely because of the much lower loading lip. Any less mobile dog would struggle with the Peugeot. That’s why I drive an estate (Seat Leon) as it’s really dog friendly .As are all estates . SUVs a lot less so. Bob perhaps you should address this on your reviews ? You could call it the ‘dog in’ section lol 😂

@Bob Flavin I am not quite with you:
For the interior's look the point goes to the Renault - but not for it's usability!
I was considering buying one because I liked the look so much but got disappointed rather quickly when I realised, I couldn't even get in! No joke!
I'm only 1,86 m tall, but I am what we call a "sitting giant" (I don't know, wether there is a proper expression in English for it, but that is what we call it, when you are one head bigger than all the others while you are sitting).
I could not enter the passenger's seat nor the back row, because I hadn't been able to bow my neck deep enough to get my head inside the car. I could only manage it on the driver's side with the seat in the lowest position. And even then there wasn't any headroom left.
I did not have that problem in the Peugeot 2008. So: Although the Renault's inside is much more beautiful than the Peugeot's, to me that point clearly goes to the 2008.

That’s really useful to know. I’m 5’8” (174cm) so taller than the average woman but I’m also disabled with a back injury so need these useful crossovers SUVs for the height of the seats rather than the saloon cars that you drop into and then I can’t get out!
Good news to hear there’s more room in the 2008 as I’ve had a 2015 Renault and wouldn’t necessarily go for it again but it’s definitely had an upgrade.
Also my dad is standing giant at 6’6” or 1.98m so good to know he’d fit in the 2008 at least and not have his knees round his ears like you!

    Hi Bob
Enjoyed the review thanks, of the two cars I think I prefer the Renault it just seemed more
relaxed and comfortable but I would like to try them both.
The car I would like to try is a 1.5 Honda Civic auto, my problem is the three cylinder 1ltr
engines that everybody is using, not a fan, to me they sound a bit frantic when asked to perform
hence the 1.5 although I stand to be converted.
I used to own a Honda 1.6 vti many moons ago that was a wonderful engine, that too was
frantic between 6 and 8 thousand revs but I liked it then,

Great, very informative, and honest review!
Tested and considered both of these cars, but, eventually, tested CX-30 and instantly forgot that I even sat it any of these (I know, different segment, but it's almost the same size (bigger, but not by much), or so I think, and pricewise is somewhere around these 2 cars, at least here it is), buying one it in the end. However, if I would have to chose between one of these, I would also go for the Captur, but I think that it was not as quiet as you say it is - lots of wind and tire noise is what I remember.
Did you manage to see all the information behind that small steering wheel in 2008? I couldn't see half of it, and the interior felt a bit claustrophobic, I was constantly under impression that the car was choking me, didn't feel comfortable at all. In Captur, however, that infotainment screen is always distracting while looking on the road, in the line of view, vertical, and keeps making you look at it.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Good review as per normal Bob. Both these cars are on the Mrs. option list for next new car. I myself am torn on the looks of both cars. Both have their merits but, when it comes down to it the 2008 is all about the lights imo. The Captur wins on internal looks. So you pays your money and takes your choice for me. I would go Renault myself but, "she who must be obeyed" may have other views. I'll let you know at a later date. "So until the next time" etc. etc. ;-)>

Hi there, This video is just what I was looking for.
    I'm currently looking to buy a 2020 Peugeot 2008.
I currently have a 2016 Peugeot 308 and I like it very much but when I had an accident repair done to it I was given a rental which was a 2020 Renault capture.
I must agree with you that the interior on the Renault was very nice and I couldn't believe how quiet the petrol engine was as you mentioned in your review, however just one thing that I didn't like on the capture was the low profile tires, I was just getting to much road noise from the tires also, the UK road tax is £205 which compare to my Peugeot 308 1.6 diesel is £0.00 a year.
I can't really go and have a look at these vehicles until the lockdown is over and until I drove the 2008 I can't really decide yet.
Thank you very much for the very interesting review.

Getting a new car this year and as weird as this sounds i'm actually getting the Peugeot 2008, auto gt line. As like your dad found out it would feel like i'm getting the same car again lol 🤣 I actually prefer the style of the peugeot body to the capture and all of its interior is what attracted me towards it as it has more of a high end feel to it compared to the capture which looks very basic in comparison, well that's my own opinion I guess.
