Sorry to Rolex fans but i feel that this Ginault is far better looking than this old sub. Perhaps a better comparison would be the newer sub with Ceramic bezel.

Is it worth nearly 3X the price of a Steinhart Ocean One? I'll have my opinion next week when my Steinhart arrives.
My question too, exactly! I really like the Steinhart ocean one premium ceramics. But I am thinking about this Ginault too. I understand that this IS better than the Steinharts, but the question is: is it 3 times better? $1800 instead of $600. I seriously doubt it. At $900 I would very likely buy it...but double that at $1800 feels too steep.

@private464 I think it’s worth the premium. However when it comes to watch collecting, nothing is rational, it’s emotional. More how a watch makes you feel, not all about the specs 👍🏼

@@ryanbane I have the Monta OK v3 and the quality is top notch. Very close to my Tudor Monochrome. I'm a big Monta fan. Legit brand.
I own the Ginault OR2 and the Monta OK3, both are great watches. The Ginault is basically a smaller 116610 in terms of quality and how solid and premium it feels. It's really the ultimate RLX Sub homage the market has to offer.
Monta is good, but the Ginault OR2 is toe to toe with my Sub, speaking from experience of owing both and the Tudor.
Had a Monta and currently have an SS. To me, the Monta is a good watch, but it's a little boring to me.
The SS case design and finishing are superior, in my opinion. I do love the Monta bracelet and how each link articulates. But it's close. The bracelets and clasps are both great.
The movements SW300 vs. SW200-1 elaborate grade is also close. With the 6 weeks of regulation, you get COSC specs without COSC price passed to the consumer.
I am missing a third watch in this comparison. An Invicta ProDiver worth around $60-$100. 😁

I think the invicta is nowhere near the quality of the Ginault. I hv seen a couple of Invicta watches & i jus feel that the aesthetics & build quality is highly lacking. But then again, at its price pt, can’t expect too much.
The Monta Oceanking v3 is a better option from a legit watch brand.

I own both the Ginault OR2 and the Monta OK3. They are both great watches. The OR2 is basically Rolex Sub quality at 1/6th the price.

You really believe that John hand built Your watch in America?He need to be some kind of slave working 24/7 to hand build hundreds of watches,lol
@@piotrszmidel Honestly I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. John has been extremely cordial and well spoken through the number of years I’ve communicated with him. What I do know is that the watches are extremely well-built, regardless of where they’re manufactured or assembled.
To be labeled as Made in America per the FTC all parts, items, machining build etc has to be 100% sourced and built in the US. FTC would be all over this guy if it was labeled American made. I think it says built in the USA, huge huge difference.
Yes, I once sent my Silent Service back for a repair, the same day the watch arrived back at Ginault, John recorded a video showing and explaining to me the damage and how I messed up the watch at his workbench. So yes very much he is building these watches in America. He hand build these watches by order and he can only build a handful each week. That's why the wait time was around 8 weeks after order placement.

It's not hard to believe. He only creates a handful of watches every week. It takes an average of 2 months to get your watch once ordered.
So you're comparing the features of a post-ceramic clone to a pre-ceramic original, and you're giving credit the clone for copying the improvements Rolex made to the newer watches.

With the amount of effort put into this watch its a shame they didn't design something more unique. The Ocean Rover will be classed just as a Rolex clone and will grouped with the sub $250 chinese rip offs. Why not get a Invicta and have the mercedes hands too? (- because they are essentially fake watches) Ginault can clearly build a good quality watch, now they need to design their own. The Silent Service is a nod in the right direction.
I really hope they come out with their own designs, they would be killer watches!

I look at my bank account and I can think of 100 better ways to spend the kind of money Rolex is charging. Nothing wrong with having a homage or two if you just like the looks.
Look at vintage watches from the 50s or 60s, they all copied each other and nobody cared.

I own a RLX Sub and Tudor, after I got the OR2 I was thinking damn.....this is a damn good watch even compare to the big swiss boys for 1/6th the price. And I wonder how much more I paid for RLX marketing, true story.
If you dońt want to scream Rolex, maybe not buy a watch this is basically a copy of a Rolex. No originality…nothing that i would ever buy. Would rather go get a Longine, Sinn, Oris or Seiko.

It's an homage, for those that like the Rolex look but don't have the Rolex money or wait list time. If one wants more unique, Ginault has the Silent Service. Same quality but different case design.

Compare the watch to a price equivalent brand, not on the is 10x with forever long horological history, superior materials, build quality etc.

Personally after owning several subs , I am happier with the Ginault OR2 as the crown image simply sucks. Good watches, not great but the Rolex vibes are very deceiving...
