Ok, just received it today. 2 days earlier than expected directly from Japan, so nice surprise. I’ll just say this, pics and video do NOT do this watch justice. Fits perfect, feels great, and looks simply stunning. I’m normally a blue/grey/black/white dial guy, but I wanted some nice color in the collection. Some brands have red, but nothing spectacular. This Seiko hits it WAY out of the park. I couldn’t be happier. I shared the unboxing with my 19 year old daughter (not a watch enthusiast) and she just leaned back and said…”woah”. 😮Anyway, if you’re on the fence, pull the trigger. Some great deals on Chrono 24 and as mentioned, got mine super fast.
@@UltraDoug the watch overall look is very impressive. But I find mine isn't the most accurate at keeping track of the time. Just in one day it was ahead by 7 min to the clock I set the time from.
Did you have to pay extra for the import tax of the watch and how much? I am in Europe, find a good deal on Chrono 24 as well, can possibly be my first watch here. Would very appreciate if you can give your shopping experience with Chrono24.
I’ve never been into Seiko, but I would totally have that in my collection. Amazing dial. You could put the word “Grand” in front of the name, and no one would question it without studying closely.
Gonna pick one up soon after i saw it in person. Bright red under the sun and a deep burgundy sheen in low light. The sharp edge design shines through and refracts the light for a brilliant tonal difference. The finishing and performance is also quite well for the price you pay. A good red dial is quite rare these days no matter where you look so the value proposition is already there for me. Honestly quite a pleasant red and not at all in your face compared to the other ones out there.

I have been thinking of getting the black version for weeks. Partly because it IS black and that's a point of distinction from the universal silvery stainless steel look that every watch under the sun has, but distinct in a non-blingy way. I've never owned a geuine real-watchmaker brand watch before. It'll be my first ever non-fashion brand watch. I'm not really a watch collector or afficionado. I just think it's time for me to become a man get a real watch vs forever relying on my iphone.
I just pulled the trigger on this watch for $710 (plus tax), not only because at this price I had to, but also because it suddenly dawned on me how important this particular watch is in the scheme of things. Dust notwithstanding, the finish, the treatment of the steel, the case shape is all top notch especially for the price. But the color, that dial, that red brings this to a level just shy of Grand Seiko. If GS made this dial and applied the standard GS finishing, it would be selling for $3-5k no doubt. There is no other watch out there with this color and that pattern that works so well together and I am not a red guy normally. The only other piece I've seen with a really nice red is the Adamascus from Wise in Tawain, check that out if you haven't, really nice lineup of watches with Rolex steel. Anyway, this Seiko SARX089 in Fumé Red is flying completely under the radar and I can't wait for it to fly from Japan directly to my wrist. I just hope I get one a little less dusty. I just found out about this lineup today and saw the green one, really nice but not sure it's quite for me. Then I looked at the rest of the catalogue and saw this red to black dial and instantly fell in love with it! Gorgeous color! I love the red to black fade, it makes the dial look like you're seeing a glimpse the surface of a much larger object underneath in a way and I like it more than the flat blue and green versions. I have a buddy who just started at a jeweler that deals Seiko, I called him and he's sourcing one for me, I can't wait!!! Hard to decide between this and the blue dial version. But, if I had to choose for myself I'd probably opt for this just because I have maybe too many blue dials already and a strong red dial would be a nice shift in the collection's color palette. The case and bracelet looks great. I also don't understand why they had to apply the logo on the dial on a rectangular plate as you called it. Seiko are dial experts. Surely they could have applied the logo directly without that rectangular base.
@@EscapementWatch maybe, and I can see that be the case. But, I think it looks a little odd since I don't think they've ever done anything like that with their logo on any other dial. It feels a little like a bad cut/copy and paste job where they forgot to remove the excess around the logo to clean it up and make it look good all on it's own. But, it isn't enough of an eye sore to make me not consider such a watch.
From someone who owns the white dial, I think if you want the sparkling dial from the sharp edged pattern - straight for blue as the white does not show much of the light & shadow effect as others. I prefer this type of matte tone though
Think the white version is the best with red being second. The Halliburton version (non gmt) is not great imo, I wish they didn’t change the dial just reminds me of tire tracks running over the hemp leaf pattern.
Beautiful watch my first automatic watch after my Casio Edifice ECB 900 and citizen promaster . Will certainly but it when I have time , gonna be different used to GPS solar watches.
The Sharp Edge series is very nice, I like the case however the thing that has kept me from buying it is the very broad and wide watch face... the sapphire is edge to edge making it wear large. Other than that the case is very nice. . Only if it had a wider bezel or stepped bezel that Seiko is masters of...
I've been waiting to buy a red dial watch for aaages. I was torn between this Seiko and the 1957 Rado Golden horse but this one is considerably cheaper 😆 Tbh this might not be a casual everyday watch but that won't stop me from wearing every day on an exotic leather strap 🤣 My only worry is that although my wrist circumference is 6.5 inches aswelll, I just hope it doesn't sit overly large on my wrist to the point it looks comical. I love the look of this watch but unfortunately I can't wear it without buying it 😭
Just bought it yesterday. I was considering a red dial for ages which I did not have earlier in my collection filled with blue and green dials mainly. That Rado golden horse was also something on my radar. But the Rado is a big investment and already bought a Captain Cook limited edition a few weeks back, so went for the Seiko. I have a 6.5 inch wrist too and trust me it sits perfectly, not big, not small. Just the right size and looks stunning, specially in sunlight.

Only complaint is getting the perfect size for me 😆 I dont like watches loose so getting the perfect fit was hard and I REALLY wish it had minumum 3 holes of micro adjustment. Then it would be perfect for me. Even still, would always recommend this watch.
Regarding the size your wrist size would be better suited with the Sarb. This does't mean the sharp edge watches wouldn't look and fit great on a less slender wrist.
Firstly I love you reviews. Keep them coming!. I find this review very strange however. 1. You say Presage has dust, but this is a J1 Seiko. Mine has no dust, you have not shown any dust in yours and I have never heard of any dust in any of then. So it's a big random and not relevant. 2. The lug to lug of 47mm mad thickness of 12.2 is considered contact by most people. Agree the sweeping lugs, but that's a 50s aviator style and I love it. 3. Sports or dress ? Virtually everyone I talk to thinks this is a dress watch. It might be a sporty dress watch due to the lugs but so what ? 4. The blue and green dials seem to be the most popular, followed by the red. The coloured star burst from the hemp pattern is thing of beauty. 5. You like the 6R15 better ? It's a depreciated movement, replaced by the 6R35. I have loads of 6R (as well as a 4R and an awesome 9S), and I think they are the best mid-low range movement on the market. Sure I would like an 8L here, but that would add £2000 to the cost. Listen, I get its not your taste, and that's absolutely fine. In the UK and US dress watches are a minority pursuit.. desk divers with bezels are the main thing. But I am struggling to find any competition at this price range for such a beautiful watch, maybe a Longines Conquest, but that doesn't have a display back, and the 39mm has around a 50mm lug to lug. Lastly, you didn't mention the wonder signed crown 😉 Again, love your reviews and wish you lots of further reviewing success
Thanks for sharing and watching! Yes mostly all presage I have filmed have been dusty. You can see the specs of dust those are on the inside both top of sapphire and dial. @4:13 but I usually try to avoid filming the dust as it is impossible to see without extreme macro lens and good lighting. So I just mention it for something to keep in mind. I showed the dust on a Rolex air king video. It was hard to do that shot.
Yeah the mm200 is awesome...but out of the 2 you mentioned, I prefer the unmentioned one! I like the 63mas most. I will probably sell my Yema and buy it. Miss having one as I didn't gel with my 213 due to the shinny bezel. Not so sure about the white willardx gotta see it in person.
We reviewed the 169 check it out on my wrist in the video. We have same sized wrist. the 155 will fit you much better but the 169 is a better finished more premium feeling watch.
I just can't see where this sits. Too bold and big as a dress watch, not really sporty enough for everyday wear. Maybe in another colour. I do like the signed crown though. Do more of that Seiko. Nice clasp too, and half links! Has Seiko been listening?

I've had the black version and seen most of the dial versions in person, including the zero halliburton. This red one is by far, my favorite.

Yea exactly, they could have easily. That means it probably is a design decision. Maybe they wanted the raised pad as a plaque or frame for the logo.

Spb155 vs Spb169? I cant decide... I kinda want a signed crown.. but what watch is better for a rather small wrist? (16.5cm/6.5inch)

I think it comes down to the band. Throw a dark brown band on this red dial and you’re in dress watch territory 😎👍🏼
