DELICIOUS Rockfish STREET TACOS with Pico De Gallo! Jetty Fishing Catch and Cook

  • Today we're out on the Oregon coast, Jetty Fishing with the plan to catch & cook rockfish street tacos. Rock Fishing for black bass, kelp greenling or lingcod. I want to fish each of the tides... incoming tide, slack tide, and outgoing tide with multiple jetty fishing rigs in hopes of being able to individually target Lingcod, Black bass, and Kelp Greenling.
My usual fishing time on the jetty is an hour before slack tide, through slack tide, and an hour into the tide change. After that i call it quits because the current really gets moving through the jetty and it makes it much tougher to get to the fish without potentially losing a bunch of gear.
I arrived to the coast fairly late and didn't have a whole lot of time to do much jetty fishing. I did make a quick stop along the way and grabbed a few clams from the bay for bait, which managed to catch me one of my rockfish for the fish tacos.
After sleeping in my rig i headed back to the jetty.....after making a stop for a quick coffee at the R&R Coffee shop in Rockaway (one of my favorite coffee shops on the oregon coast) it sits right next to Lake Lytle, where i have done quite a bit of trout and bass fishing from my kayak.
Arriving the next morning, it was basically prime time. The incoming tide was just coming to an end and slack tide started producing a good number of fish before the tide change.
I did manage to catch another lingcod on a 1oz swimjig with just a plastic grub on it (Chartreuse). any day that i can feel the strength and fight of a lingcod is a good day.
After the tide change things really started to slow down so i decided that it would be a good time to get to cooking.
The fish tacos were absolutely incredible! Thanks to my girlfriend for making me some outstanding pico and hooking me up with a new bottle of Secret Aardvark Sauce.
Overall this was another fun and successful trip fishing the jetty.
I hope you all enjoy the video......

Looks great! Small tip on the pico (I'm a retired chef). Dice the onions & immediately a quick rinse & dry with cold H2O. It washes away the Sulphur compound that gives them that sharp bite, and gives you better flavor.

This was barview jetty in Garibaldi. It's a pretty rough area, though...... if you get a spot close enough to the water and have a decent length rod, you can easily fish from the parking lot. A bait rig setup would be best for that distance. I'm not sure on wheelchair accessible areas on the coast since i've never needed to consider it before, but i will definitely keep an eye out for spots and pass along the info

what type of tide period do you like to fish for ?

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 роки тому

I usually try to fish and hour before the tide change into about an hour after the tide change. Then the water gets moving too fast through there

Are talking about high tide, or low tide? There's a slack period during the top and bottom of the tide. Which one are you talking about?

short fisherman Chris - for the most part yes. There are a couple species that have a specific season, like lingcod and cabezon. It’s always best to check the regs at MyODFW.com before fishing

Great video Nick 👍👍!! Ouch...yeah, I’ll pass on fishing black bass after watching this vid 😅. YAY.... you used corn tortillas. I’ve been trying to grasp the whole flour tortilla fish tacos concept...lol. Great teamwork on getting those ingredients together, perfect combo, looked so delicious!! Now those are the kind of fish tacos I grew up with and still eat 👍! Just minus the Aardvark sauce....but going to have to try it now since a few ppl have said it’s really good 🤔. We tend to make several types of homemade salsas so hardly buy any.
    Awesome catch and cook 👍

Hey -Nick- Captain Butter, I've been fishing Barview the last few days. The other day I caught a 21" cabezon with a head the size of a cantoloupe, and yesterday, among the fish caught, was a 2.5 lb black rockfish that was quite a fighter! Great fun. I've been spending time targeting ling, but no recent luck. Nice job on yours!

Man I need to fish a bit further down the jetty. I haven’t hooked a cab yet. Nice job on yours. That’s a good fish! Good luck on the ling. It’s bound to happen. Sounds like you fish the jetty often enough. Let me know when it happens!

Rick Green - this is definitely a fishing channel with a bit of cooking. A lot of my recent stuff for the summer has been catch and cooks... most the other time is salmon and steelhead fishing.... but I definitely appreciate the comment. I’m still working on the cooking but I feel like I’m starting to get it down. Thanks for watching

Hey man I struggle in the morning to catch fish. In your opinion is it better to start fishing as the sun is cresting the horizon? For example tomorrow sun rise is 640 and slack starts at 7? Or do you just make sure to hit slack regardless of sun? And then Aside from nautical charts whats some markers you look for a nice hole to sit in? Rock fish are by far my favorite fish to go out and get randomly in the week but I struggle with the morning bite.

The store just as you turn off highway 101 has free ride chart booklets. Also, many other stores along the coast. And, here is the website that I've been using:
