      Wow. This is one of the first times I’ve ever seen a BTS for a film, much less a horror film that I really liked. It’s amazing how much work goes into it. The acting especially... **Spoiler** when Annie breaks down upon discovering Charlie’s death... to put oneself in that excruciatingly painful mode-and make it viscerally convincing-has got to be an extremely difficult task for an actor.
      Thanks for sharing!

      Hate to tell you this; but witchcraft and demon conjuration/evocation it's a very real danger, and yeah, anyone involved in those wicked practices are just as disgusting as the degenerates of the coven depicted in the film, there is not a safe or good way to do this, there is no reason for us to deal with those entities, and yeah, they might kill you or drive you crazy, that's very true

      ZombieZifiction I honestly havent seen another horror movie like this one. Yeah especially the tragedy, pain and agony the family exoerienced the whole of their lifetime. Especially that Annie tried to aborted his son, and the worst relationship between them. Also Charlie, where was her original soul at the first place? When she was born? In hell? And I can't imagine Paimon took her body right away.

      Omg I feel the same way. I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's weird I've seen so many scary movies and I love them but I watched this movie last night and felt my chest was in pain and anxiety today. I couldn't sleep last night. I was jumpy as if I had ptsd or was traumatized by it. No horror movie has ever made me feel this way.

      Same here. The shots of Charlie’s decapitated head (both the ants scene and the statue scene) freaked me out the worst. The first one because they really lingered in that shot, letting the audience take it all in, it turned my stomach yet I couldn’t look away, the the second scene because it was so surreal and fucked up like I couldn’t even tell if I was in a nightmare or not. I think the movie triggered our deepest fears without cheap jumpscares, and the acting was so convincing because tbh I’d expect people to react like that in real life, which makes the movie much more believable

    The movie starts slow but exponentially gets crazier and crazier and the amount of tension you feel watching some parts is second to non. There is a part about 35% in where there is so much anticipation and tension that for 20 seconds you are literally mentally hijacked by the movie. It's hard to describe but if you see the film you know excactly what I'm talking about.

    omfg the fact that every scene taking place in the house was just a set really calls back to the miniature doll house metaphor. genuis...

    • @lambchopzzzzzzz
      @lambchopzzzzzzz 6 років тому +9

      eyy ey I thought the miniatures were very uninspired and did nothing for the film. I don’t think there is any metaphor that the miniatures are supposed to represent, just a device that was used to deliver exposition and the foreshadowing of some events.

    • @aubgray2700
      @aubgray2700 6 років тому +97

      megaatomicmuffin ehhhh I disagree. The way the miniatures were used was shown with how the mother liked to base them around scenes of her life. She would be able to manipulate the miniatures to how she saw fit & in her own vision (recreating her daughter's death, turning the miniature of her mother coming into her room away because she didn't want to look at it, etc.) It was a metaphor of how the supernatural/demonic presence was acting as "outside forces," manipulating the family to act in ways that caused them to destroy themselves (making the mother think that she would burn if she burnt the book, having joanne get her involved in the seances, making her "sleepwalk" to reinforce the distrust between her & her son, etc.) It was representing them not having any control of the situations happening to them. They were literally like dolls being played with.

    • @ryantakach1478
      @ryantakach1478 6 років тому +29

      According to Graham, that's meant as "a potent metaphor for the family's situation." He told The Washington Post: "They have no agency, and they're revealed over the course of the movie to be like dolls in a dollhouse, being manipulated by these outside forces."

    • @WolfataDoor
      @WolfataDoor 5 років тому +4

      megaatomicmuffin it’s 100% effective. The first shot of the movie shows the treehouse - this representation and then pans over to the dollhouse and who do we see first. Peter. Who is manipulated by a unstoppable outside force into hosting a demon.

      There are other great horror films released too you know. Idk about Jordan Peel saving horror , "US" was a mediocre followup to "Get Out" while "Midsommar" was still good.

    this film scared the hell out of me and it was a great movie, and the last 30 minutes were fucking disturbing. but the thing that gets to me the most was Peters character - dude was going through all this and going to school the whole time, at one point getting possessed and smashing his head into the table, and then one day they’d literally never see him again... buuuut it’s just a movie so it is what it is

    I don't tend to rewatch movies a whole lit after I've seen them once or twice. I also don't have much of a taste for horror movies. I've watched Hereditary dozens of times by now. It is the greatest work of horror I have ever seen. It gives me these weird horror-suspense-atmosphere tears every time I watch it. I wish I could meet Ari Aster, the actors and everyone else involved in making this and tell him how much I love and appreciate their work.
