The scene in the bathroom where he starts dancing literally made my jaw drop and eyes tear up the first time I saw it in the theater. It felt so real. I was watching someone finally feel confident for once. He finally stands up for himself and it feels so empowering and euphoric that he can't contain it and starts to dance, purely for his own amusement, in his own unique, personal way, letting go and savoring the moment as much as he can. You can see just how much more comfortable and even powerful he feels compared to earlier, just in the way he moves. A truly transformative experience for the character. Brilliant.

@@caspeansea9179 I can’t tell you from personal experience because I never had a stutter but stuttering is 100% psychological from the research I’ve done. You form patterns in your brain that become your brains way of getting through a sentence. That then becomes the way you speak because your brain recognizes the over load of words and remembers you got over it with a stutter in the past so it becomes more pronounced and will become more and more subconscious as time goes on. You get frustrated when you can’t get a sentence out so when you do get it out your brain releases dopamine as a reward chemical for overcoming something stressful. By overthinking you clog up your mental highway if you wanna call it that. Mushrooms (even non-psychedelic) have helped a lot of people with stuttering issues. They let the words flow without overthinking and creating a gap in your brains processing which shows itself as a stutter. Give this podcast a shot. This guy is a mycologists and cured his stuttering with mushrooms he grew himself!!! If you have a stuttering issue I really hope this helps :)) 35:55 is the time stamp for speech therapy much love.

I didn't win any respect at work and the other guys were giving me a hard time about it. I felt totally incompetent, and knew no one to discuss anything with. I was out alone one night and walked into a run down cinema and this was on. It was a large auditorium, but there were maybe five people in there and I'd chosen a central seat and all the other patrons were behind me so it felt like it was just me in there. When I came out it was late at night and pouring rain, the streets were empty and I was dreading going back to work the next day. I've just stumbled upon this, and that haunting musical score has just reminded me of that time. Pretty strange.

@@nelsonhibbert5267Your analysis of how this movie makes you feel hits all the correct notes.
I’m from the North and moved to a small town in Texas. I worked night shifts and rode an electric bicycle. Riding around at night on unfamiliar empty streets in a place where nobody knew me or accepted me was deeply introspective. I would swerve the lanes wondering why I was there and why I felt so lost. Seeing a wandering homeless person at 2am, I felt closer to them than the people I worked with. It’s a very hard thing to explain. It’s cool to see someone else get how alone one can feel in a society they don’t understand.

Fantacy is a normal aspect of life. Typically though, fantacy is just an elusive lifestyle or big adventure for most that live a normal life with A, B and C of what one is supposed to have. Arthur on the other hand, like many folk in real life, were always outcasts, rejects and unwanted which results in one becoming a narcissist who possesses empathy due to lack of social development with peers but still having the "love" and "praise" from a mother. Its sad how people are broken so early in life and never really heal.

For anyone who says that this movie is not a comic book movie and only takes inspiration from Taxi Driver or King of Comedy. Definitely not reading a lot of comics.
This film takes a lot of inspiration from comics.
Joker in a talk show and kissed one of the guests, it was taken from the comic "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller.
Joker as a failed comedian and became a victim of harassment before he became the Joker, it was taken from the comic "The Killing Joke" by Alan Moore.
And there are a lot of scenes in asylum, street, theater, stairs, office, that was taken from many Batman comics like A Serious House on A Serious Earth, White Knight, Going Sane, City Of Owls, and Earth One.

That specific Joker character always made me feel emotional. I think that Joaquin played it extremely well because he is empathetic with mental health issues. Maybe he had rougher times in his life with mental health so he can relate, maybe not. But for me, if I was an actor and got an opportunity to play a similar role I think I would 110% embodied it and probably feel very connected with the character because I had extremely hard chapters in my life, I travelled and met so many people struggling, I did so many different things and felt so many different emotions. I am healthy both physically and mentally right now but I understand people going through rough times because I have been there. But yeah, that must be quite a thrill to be an actor such as him. I am so glad I worked at a cinema when this came out, on a daily I would sneak and "check" screens just to see the Joker's segment on the Murray show. Such an ace film.

Joker is one of the most powerful, well made comic book movies of all time, the story, beautifully shot and filmed, everything was top notch. Todd Philip’s created a masterpiece, Joaquin Phoenix nailed the role of Joker 👏👏👏

Have to disagree. It was a brilliant performance, but it wasn't the Joker.
