  • I traveled to more than 4 Dealerships to show you guys what current inventory and easily identifiable discounts look like. Not only are interest rates super high right now but MSRPs have gotten out of control. Thankfully many of the dealers are finally coming back down to Earth on their pricing below MSRP.
    Thoughts?

Exactly. Upon the return, the dealer will claim it has depreciated 20% upfront. Then check the idling hours, look for small micro scratches, the tiniest paint chips, dust on the dash and carpet, and so much more to get it to a $45k buy back.

Unless they reduce the massive tax they've placed on us, which includes the incoming AI, i fear the American people will need to delineate from the corporate America to see a retainable future. When the treasury hedges debt against the body this is what you get. They did this in expectation of a new industrial revolution. I dont think they give two shts about the American public or the world for that matter. I mean, congress is required by law to be equals under the law and yet here they are usurping the law. If we’re being honest every long standing auto maker could learn a thing or two from Tesla. Become more in house and efficient in your manufacturing and lower prices as able. Most Model 3 and Y Teslas right now cost less than the average new car (after federal rebate), and quite honestly are more reliable, safe, high tech, and better performing. And their prices have come down multiple times within the same year this past year. They don’t just continually keep getting higher. 🤦‍♂️

Now I have 2002 Chevy Silverado with a 5 speed manual transmission and a 6 cylinder engine. It has almost 300,000 miles on it and still runs like the day I drove it off the lot. I haven't had a car payment in over 15 years and don't plan on ever having one.

He was born in 1929 and was a concentration camp survivor who became successful in this country by working really hard, did not spend frivolously, and earned every dollar that he had. He didn't waste a penny. When it came time for a new car. he would save up and walk into the dealership and pay cash. Never had a car payment. The difference is that in those days, the price of a new car relative to the annual income of the average Joe was less than 10%. Today, it ranges between 50% and up to 100%. Dealerships of every kind are gouging the consumer. MSRP for a 2024 Honda rancher is $6600. Our dealer wants $8200 for it. A brand new Toyota Corolla MSRP was $21,000 last year. Now it is $25,000 this year. Parts are cheap. Just change water pump, timing belt, serpentine belt and wheel bearings every 100,000 miles and these vehicles will go 360,000 miles. In my area many of the early 2000's Silverados are still on the road with 360,000 miles. Salvage yard engines $800, transmissions $600 and transfer cases $400. It's a no brainer.

Thanks for watching! And that’s a good point. Leases also really confuse me though because in general they’re suppose to be the most expensive way to operate a vehicle. And even if they’re a “business write off” for a small portion of those people who lease and you save maybe 1/3 of the lease expense in your taxes that’s still a lot of money spent each month depending on the vehicle. Basically vehicles are just objectively too expensive lol. 😬

When I started seeing a ton of trucks and SUVs on the roads years ago I just thought, "Gee, I guess people really like trucks," when in actuality it was just that a lot of automakers decided they were only going to make them regardless of what their customers wanted. Just another reminder that corporations do not make products for their consumers anymore, they make what they want to make and you can either take it or leave it.

Couple years ago my wife and I were car shopping and we saw a guy at a dealer who just bought an F-150 for $40K over the 2019 price and he was upset. I love my hemi magnum. It ca sip gas on the highway if you keep your foot off the pedal but with the hemi it's impossible. It has the MDS which shuts off 4 cylinders which is great for highway. I've gotten 23 mpgs. I still have it looks awesome and is inferno red. I've customized it as well. Back in the nineties I used to buy cars/trucks often. You don't get rich that way. I've owned my Magnum since 2008 and it was paid off in 2 years. I keep it running like new. I don't plan on every selling it. By the way I still have to pay $60 a year in property tax on it which was 40 something a couple years ago. Always have the sunroof gowpen the windows down and metal noise coming out. Who says you can't have fun at 63. Retired and happy to annoy others.

I live in Virgnia and we have property tax on vehicles for as long as you own them. Only way around it is to keep the vehicle until it's 25 years old and get antique plates. No more taxes or vehicle inspections. I have them on my 73 Charger and 76 Lincoln. 5 more years for the Magnum. I think the vehicle property tax rate is 3.6% and the state plays some game with a reduction of a little bit. I couldn't imagine the tax bill on a 100k vehicle on top of insurance and a payment and maintenance.
