  • Navigating the car market today can be overwhelming due to fluctuating inventory levels and unpredictable pricing. Consumers are less inclined to pay the high prices that dealers were previously able to command. Yet, the impact of these changes isn't uniform across all vehicle types. This is partly because some car manufacturers overestimated the demand for certain cars and SUVs, leading to a surplus at dealerships. At the same time, some models are struggling to find buyers at all, exacerbating the issue. In this landscape, being informed is crucial. A key piece of information is the Market Day Supply, which estimates how long it would take to sell every car of a specific model at the current sales pace. Using CarEdge Data, we've pinpointed the new cars that have been languishing on dealership lots the longest.

      True. What I can't figure out is why are so many Americans (me, us) buying these expensive vehicles while complaining we don't have enough money to buy other things? I see trucks jacked up really high with knob tires and trick lighting, only to see them parked at apartments or rental homes. There are other examples, besides trucks, but trucks are the big stand outs. What's even crazier is I see illegal immigrants driving these trucks!

    Time to go to these dealers and do what they did to us, the consumers, during the pandemic. They wanted an extra $10-$30K over the sticker price, then, now we want a $10-$30K off the sticker price to even consider these vehicles.

      Hyundai/kia is junk… they have always had MAJOR quality and safety recalls. You would never put koreans in the same league as the japanese. In Asia, NO ONE but koreans themselves would buy korean cars, but EVERYONE is fine with honda and toyota. In terms of quality, only an ignorant outsider would ever put the koreans in the same league as toyota… Most Americans who owned korean cars had nothing but bad experiences with them. PS now they are charging their EV customers 50K to replace a battery - look it up, it is all over the news.

    The problem with Dodge, Ram, Chrysler and yes even Jeep, is Stellantis itself. The huge price increases have been put in place to fund their BEV program (which itself is destined for failure). I have a 2020 Ram 2500 Limited MegaCab with the 6.4 Hemi V8, 4.10 rear end, air suspension and lots of other goodies. I use it to tow a 30' 9000 pound travel trailer, which it does very well. The sticker was about 77k in 2020. The same vehicle would now be over 100k. That is an unsupportable/unjustifiable cost increase. Stellantis has NOT invested back in Chrysler or much in Dodge. Ram has had a small amount of investment, and even Jeep has not been shown much love by Stellantis. It is obvious that they don't understand the American market. There is a reason Fiat does not sell well here. And that Hornet, well the sales numbers speak loud and clear. Dodge painted itself into a corner by going all in on the "Brotherhood of Muscle" campaign. And muscle was not the problem. It was moving out of anything other than muscle that was the problem. Giving up the brand equity with the Dodge Grand Caravan nameplate was pure stupidity. There should have been a lower cost version of the Pacifica that was a Dodge. Car companies need to be run by engineers that are first and foremost car guys. And quality should always be of higher importance over short term profit. Cheap plastics don't really save much money, but the damage they do to brand reputation is immense!

      I'm trying to figure out why you spent 77K for a RAM 2500 to pull a 9K travel trailer. A RAM 1500 would have pulled that 9K trailer just fine, and you could have saved yourself a LOT of money.

    • @johnnicpon5783
      @johnnicpon5783 Місяць тому +5

      @@TheProfessorOfLife For a number of reasons. First, I wanted the MegaCab. Second, I wanted gas engine. The 6.4 BGE Hemi V8 fit the bill as it has power and durability for towing. My travel trailer is a 2020 Airstream International 30RB. We often have company on our camping trips. The limited MegaCab is a very comfortable cabin and back seat for that. Lastly, I prefer to not tow near or at limit as that is higher wear and tear on the truck. My 2500 is rated to tow just north of 16k and has a much higher payload than a 1500. The tongue weight of the Airstream is about 900 pounds. Then add 4 passengers, a full tank of gas and a full truck bed, and I would have been over the payload of the 1500. Also, I did not say I payed 77k. That was the sticker price.

      Bought a new 250 1 1/2 yrs ago. We went thru the whole trade in negotiations and everything. Called to get Z plan number. They said they were not accepting the employee discount. So I got up said thanks for your time. I was half way out the door before they begged me to come back while they called the dealership owner. From test drive to this point was about 4 hours. There was not one single other customer in the building the whole time. BTW, they did accept the plan. I drove the truck home that evening.

    Ummm, the reasons stated in the video for the huge supply - all of them are off base or not the primary reason - all of them should start with "price, price, and price". Even if you pick the undesirable versions (I suspect the bulk of the Challengers/Chargers in the queue are V6 powered) it's all about price. And frankly, no matter how Dodge adjusts the prices, the dealers are still trying to hose customers, so - in the lots they will sit.
    The US model of selling cars is outdated and broken. But thanks to powerful dealer lobbying groups and laws in each of the 50 states to protect the franchises, I don't see it changing any time soon.

    But yeah, I agree with a lot of the comments here. The mark up on some of these vehicles doesn't even make sense in this hyper inflated economy. Work trucks payments cost more ($100,000+/- a few) then some rent and mortgages. Not to mention the full coverage insurance required on top of your new car payment. Better be living out of it if you're in the lower middle class. It's insane.

    Prices for used vehicles are ridiculous!! My 2014 Escape cost me $6,000 in 2020! It now costs more! Now we wanted 4 more years for this 'gold' SUV; well, we have barely put 7,500 km on it in those years & yes, we want more! It has almost 240,000 km; bht, recently after a ten week holiday, it started like a charm! The ride is comfortable, it's OK on gas ( hard to tell on such short runs) & we change the oil 2x a year! I just wish it was bigger to carry all our camping gear! If used car prices came down, I'd look at an Edge or Explorer, but???

    I don't get why Challengers are sitting on lots because Stellantis wants to shift to EVs. MrPittman's comments makes more sense that dealers are marking them up. Some dealers were getting in trouble for doing this during the shortage because (I assume) it reduced the number of cars sold, but maybe Dodge doesn't care about this anymore. A lesser factor may be people don't want these if they be having a higher chance of getting stolen and carjacked.

    Stellantis biggest issue is that they’re making cars that no one wants and getting rid of the ones they do. Chrysler needs to pull out of stellantis merger and get rid of poor quality brought by fiat and bring back hits like the aspen, keep the 300 and redesign it as well as a coupe version and introduce a entry level model. Dodge is a sport brand but did really well when it was a volume brand. In the 2000’s you had caravan grand caravan, journey, Durango, charger, challenger, avenger, dart, magnum, stratus, intrepid. 2000-2011 for most models listed. SRT should be an option on all models.
