But remember this:
Your journey is that: your journey. Take it as you see fit and get out of it what you can. No one can a journey that they themselves did not take…and since they aren’t you, they didn’t take your journey.
Embrace it…and may your journey bear much fruit.

I have hightop locs I started after my mom died. Me in her planned to do it together but a car accident took that away. So my Hightop locs mean so so much to me.
So sorry to hear about your loss family. Definitely want to uplift you in prayer and I hope your journey can help bring that joy in her memory. 💖

I'm almost to 2 years with my high top locs, and I love them. they are thick because of my hair type, but I love the fade and fresh retwist combo . the full set would be too much for me, especially with sweating and stuff in the summertime. but, to each its own. To my fellow high toppers, EMBRACE YOUR HIGH TOP! xoxoxo
Hi top dreads here, about 6 years into the journey. They’re around chest length from top of head, and I’m actually now thinking of growing the sides and back for a full set.
Never to late to try something or to commit differently
My high top locs literally gave me a type of confidence I can’t even explain. I’m only a year and 3 months on but I’m glad I did it 💯 full set wouldn’t be my style tbh

Mi bruddah 👋🏽👋🏽❤❤ the amount of people starting their loc journey has increased drastically. I love it all....its just beautiful.
Tell the family hello
Oh side note I'm a year locd 💪🏾💪🏾
One of the reasons I have high top locs is that I actually like that it will look short to mid length. I say that because I love the loc journey but I don't think I'll want them down to my back, but hey I admire all styles of locs
Same here...
Same
These are facts! When I grew my first set of locs, and I decided to cut the sides abs back, I knew it was only time before I cut the rest of my hair. They just didn’t fall right and I was ready to transition. Now that my locs are growing in unison all over my head, it appears more full mainly because I do indeed have more hair, and not necessarily longer hair
Thanks for this video. I plan to restart a loc journey and I was planning to get high top locs so this video was very helpful.
Damn People Really Despise HighTop Locs lol. I’m two years in and I’m not mad at all. I honestly love the Retwist + Haircut Combo🔥🔥🔥
Me too bro
@@airkage6008 my fade goes away in a week bro. That money adds up when getting it faded plus sometimes I don't feel like showing the sides and rather let it hang down.
@@kush7138 learn to do it yourself… I never understand dudes spending money to get something done that’s easily done yourself
@@mogulme6190 Idk man, it depends on wat your doing. Line ups? Doing a fade on your own hair? What about the back? Im not saying its impossible, but will take some practice = some time with bad haircuts until you get better
@@ce1474 I bet mogul don't even do his own neither up her judging a profession💀
I have high top locks rn lol they’re not fully locked tho but they braided back..IM IN THAT JOURNEY YESSIRRRR
Welcome home! 🥲✊🏾😂
How long is your hair?
Braids take long to lock up
@@TPlocks ayo I got a question. I still have starter locks 7months now and they not mature. I was wondering if since I started out with the crotchet method can I continue retwisting using beeswax to retwist em. Cuz I can't find crotchet needles ate my local malls and craft shops but beeswax is in abundance around me. Should I use beeswax or should I just continue hunting for that needle. Please help bro ❤️
Appreciate your insight. I'm high topping it fam. I know I'm going to eventually fully grow out. But I loving my journey as is. Predicate ya vids fam.
I have a LONG full set and can do beanies. There’s bigger ones out there. I’d also recommend neck gaiters too if you don't want them rubbing on your neck.
You could also keep your locs and still get a full set eventually….maybe look into attaching locs to your sides. Like EVENTUALLY they’ll get to the point where you’ll want to cut them shorter. If you got double your length, cut it in half and attach it to your sides, it could look nice.
Of course that’s a process but food for thought maybe
Where do you buy your beanies from?
I’m a female and LOVE my high top locs. I have around 53 locs and wouldn’t have it any other way!!!
yup....same here
Me personally I love my hightop set. I wasn’t a big fan of having a full set plus I think it works for me especially with styles and overall uniqueness.
Maintenance ain’t too bad I shave it bald once a month then let it grow in. I stay away from the tapered front just rock my hairline natural and just trim the widows peak (can’t do the vegeta 😂)
I got pretty good thickness too. I only have like 48 locs so they’re all pretty good size
bro me too, nice clean shave on the sides and back and let the hair line rock natural, the way to go
Uff i was thinking about keeping the vegeta lols. I got mine interlock last month, already had two years worth of hair growth so its ok length but not long. So far i like it! I get to keep my fade but it kinda evolved into something else
u recommend starting off with high top or full head then transitioning to high top
@@stari313 I would say it depends on what your hair is when you start growing it out. If you already got a hi top I would say dread that up just so you don’t have to start from the very beginning. But if you starting from scratch maybe grow out a fro and start with a full set to see how you feel.
@@daniellawrence2949 my mans had been growing out for years and he got the instant locs to start if I had known more about it I think I probably would’ve did that.
Thanks for the vid TP, your baby girl is adorable!
Thanks =) and Glad you enjoyed it family.
Had a hightop set for almost a year but grew my sides and back for over a year now and it’s finally gotten to point where it’s starting to catch up it’s about the a little more than half the size of the my longer locs I feel like in another year it’ll start to flow more. So the people that wants to grow out their undercut it is possible and it will eventually somewhat catch up ✌🏽
very informative video, at the end of the day, who cares what people think, embrace your hair and style of locs, no one can gate keep your locs, love your loc journey and the way YOU style your locs.
Another TP video?? Yes lawwdddd 🔥✅
Trying to keep it going 🔥🔥🔥
I haven’t had a line up In 6 months with my full set of hair. Good video bro 💪🏾💪🏾
Great vid ! The word you are looking for is Voluminous!
Yea it was a long day 😂😂😂
Whatever locs ppl have i respect it no matter full set/ high top or free-form respect to all who is on the journey
You’re onto something about this “pecking order”. Although I simply can’t subscribe to free forms being top tier even though many people believe so.
Good video man
Thanks TP enjoyed this. 😉
Glad you enjoyed it family 🙏🏾
Great vid mane
Love the videos man!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate ya fam!!
I started with high tops and im 10 months in... i started to grow my sides out in the start march of this year because of the volume issue. I saw some pics of my hair from other angles and hated how little volume my hair had on the sides compared to the front and back. The length situation was never an issue for me. High top locs can look really good especially if you get a cut regularly and keep your hair up to show it off but If anyone is thinking of starting locs and youre like me, someone who doesnt plan to put your hair up and just wants to let them hang, just start with a full head of dreads. Growing my sides out as of now hasnt been bad because my locs are long enough to where they cover the new growth on the sides.
I had wayyyyy too much hair I had to cut it. most folks don't even notice that I have high top locs. look at my profile pic .
I had 114 locs ..I had the taper undercut locs for a while for about two years in . I started growing the undercut out last year , now I have 30 brand new locks .. now a total of 144 . It’s worth the journey of growing it out . I have saved so much not gonna to barbershops
Same thang bro! Got about 35 more from growing undercut!
How do you keep the hair on the sides look good without looking weird with short locks on the side
@@dadarkknight36310 I just added Loc extensions to my new locs I figured since it’s only 30 of them let me give myself a break . I’ve proven I can be patient with the 114 . August will be year 3 of me growing locs . When I want a color fix I’m gonna color just the extensions not my real hair . Overall a good decision for me . My hair looks great .
@@dadarkknight36310 you can also wear headbands too, to hold you over
Dope video.I have high top locks and have been fortunate to never receive any bias from the dread lock community. Truth be told I did not even know there where groups. Lolol
Hey TPLOCKS, as usual it’s great to see you☺️your baby girl looks so sweet & has GAWJUS hair like you & your Mum. I must be honest when your hair is down, it does look like the whole head is locked. As you rightly say, for some people a full head, might be too much, I know it would for me as I perspire a lot. I just love having my back & sides shaved, I’ve done this for the last & years & it has given me a lot of freedom, it’s low on maintenance & dare I say I think it’s sexy /edgy. It’s not quite Jada Pinket Smith, but you know what I mean. If you were in the UK people would call you mixed race & call your hair mixed coz it’s very soft. My hair does shrink, even now it’s locked, I must admit I wasn’t prepared for it to do that. But with the aid of your videos & laid back attitudes to your locks, it’s rubbed off on me & that’s the attitude I now have. I know it will get longer & I just gotta be patient & love the journey. I swear you look younger in every video you post. So glad I found your video. 🥰

Literally 109% everything you said was how I felt about my high top set I had in 2019 . Just restarted my journey 1mo in now with a full set
This is s good!
My hair is not thick, I'll be two years in by July and I have 46 Locs, high top... Looks few and scanty, the sizes are reasonably okay but not thick enough to not notice.. I'll be getting a new job soon and in Nigeria, having Locs in a formal environment is unheard of so I'm in a dilemma as it might make no-one call me back. I'm also thinking about the volume of my hair and how I can cut it and regrow a full head after some time... Tricky times. Great content!!!! Remember I started my locs after watching your videos and I come here for regular tips and overall great content, you be sabi guy!!!
My full set is finally below my shoulders, but I'm about to go for a hightop style tomorrow, I feel like that style would fit me better make it easier to maintain my locs (although that new growth on the sides is going to be annoying I already know).
That crap with pushed back dreads started happening to me😭Before I started getting monthly lineups my dreads started at my hairline, now some of the them are an inch back because of the barbers combing hair out of my dreads for that crispy line. Wish I had known to tell them just to follow my natural hairline.
Mannnn I'm glad you made this video. I had high top locs for 2 years. I ended up cutting them a year and a half ago to grow my whole head out. Reason why bc barbers were cutting into my locs. Second reason like you said when you have somewhere to you have to do something with that hamburger meat lol
what’s up TP🔥 good vid!
Sup family’ appreciate you for the love ✊🏾
I don't have a high top situation but I do have a nape uncut, and I definitely need the patience cuz the length does seem compromised. But I'm committed. I'm excited to see where my hair goes.
Tp last time I watch ur video u was at 10.k ur channel been growing congratulations main u be at 1 million one day
Preciate you throwing love to your high top at the end 💯
Do you have advice on transitioning to a full set from a high top without fully resetting and cutting off the locs you have?
I’m doing the same
I prefer the look of undercuts. However, I’ve gone full “ werewolf “ 🐺 (locs) 4 about a year now, to decrease or avoid maintenance. That said, I’m now averaging every three to four months, far as appointments go. I tell people, “ these are CoVid locs “ 😂
Can relate to that, with my Mohawk set
Ur soo right about everything but the one that hits the most is the over cut from barbers and making it thin .so I cut of my dreads and now is doing freeform .
I actually went from high top locs to a full set after about a year and a half in. What I did was let the sides grow in a little and started braiding them all into cornrows until the sides caught up essentially. It’s crazy because I’m about to cut them all down shorter, but I noticed the sides are not as different in length as they were when I started locking them up. Cornrows make your [hair] grow faster
Im actually going through this too but i dont have dreads i have 10-12 inches of hightop hair. wanna grow the sides atleast enough for a taper before i start my journey and plan to put the sides in cornrows whilst having the rest in twists. the ugly stage is gonna suck though
Can i see how yours look now?
Im a little over a year with high tops. Your comment is reaaly good, bc im sitting here thinking how i can transition to full set.
I actually started my locs n a high top... I let some of the sides grow b I combed out 10 locs to cornrow.. Now I have for cornrows in my hair with my locs... EVENTUALLY I'm a loc the braids
I would love a video on loc hierarchy
This makes me glad I’m rocking the high top locs it’ll be less common In a few years
Waiting to start my high top locks. As a woman of a certain age, i don't want anything laying on the back of my neck while having a hot flash.
im already going through my journey with a high top, nle was my inspiration lol, on my second month and i think im doing pretty good
I have the mohawk dreads but i have to keep myself from cutting my hair to often 😂
I think the best thing to do with your locs if you want that sorta high top look but also wanna go for that full head of hair look I say get a tight taper all around from the back and the sides that way you can wear your hair down and also if you wanna show off that cut you can put it up in a ponytail with diff hairstyles etc.(I have this style )
For reason 4 - do you have a video breaking down how you should line up or tell your barber how to line up with locs? I feel like mine is pushing my joint back lowkey 😭. Just got a cut last week but now I'm about to wolf it out for like 2 months
I do have a video but I could be more detailed with it for sure. It's basically just me showing the process...not really explaining it.
I have high top locs, about 10 months loc'd and generally these things don't bother me. The maintenance is definitely a bit more but so far I love my hair.
This is a great video bro. This was all facts. I’m 3 years in bro, and just started out growing out my sides, because my hair isn’t as voluminous.. if you didn’t have the volume, you think you would grow the sides out?
I’ve had hightop dreads for four years, they are a foot and a half long now. Constantly debating cutting them but I’ve worked so hard to maintain them and the work has been done by me from the beginning even fading the sides. Hate that I’m so attached to them😂
The end is a new beginning gang
I had the drop fade high top locs in for a year and 4 months until I decided to chop them and just grow a fresh new full set of locs. Im gonna do like how I did with the high top set and grow my hair for about a year before locking it up again so I have some time to enjoy having an afro before locking up again. But yep, I just feel a full set of locs would look so much better on me both with my hair down and in styles. High top locs are def fire don’t get me wrong especially on the right person, but unfortunately I’m not that person haha. Full set it is for me!
U spoke Truth about that hierarchy when it comes to dreads. I don't totally agree with ppl placing a value on someone else's journey tho... on the other hand, in some cases I understand it tho. Lol.
Voluminous 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was wondering if people had the same ranking I did! It’s definitely a real hierarchy
I definitely would like to take a picture of myself and tell me what you think of my high tops. Then again mines more of a dread hawk I’ve been growing for about three years in debating if I should go full
Your family is beautiful 🥰
Everything you said was true, I got the hamburger meat right now🤣🤣🤣 but I love my high top locs wouldn’t change them for nothing
My high top gives me soo much confidence, edginess and style. Can't image anything different!!
Man I felt this video. I always say if I had a full head my hair would be down to my a** lol. My high top locs go pass my shoulder to the top of my chest & my cousin grew a whole head and passed me in about 2 years 😡😆
Mann you posted this video before I could finish editing mine 😂🤦🏾♂️I got something big coming for y’all with my sides 🤫
My hair is just a little bit longer than yours (almost 4 years in as well) but I think I started with more hair. Loving my high-top locs but I did learn how to cut my hair during the pandemic. Fast forward 2 some odd years later and I’ve gotten really good a fading my hair & haven’t been to my barber since. When I did go before doing it myself I never got the top of my hair lined up just the sides.
Omg look at babygirl💖
I want to get a high top locs
I had a fauxhawk loc set with the first set of locs
I want a high top locs because with full locs my head sweats so much especially when I work and workout.
I don't like that feeling of it
Thanks for this video 📹 great suggestions 👍🏽
Lol I'm doing the opposite. I had a full set down my back and I loved them but 1 thing I hated was how hot I always was, I'm looking forward to having high top locs, I love the way they look and they'll keep you cooler during the summer.
Man I had 2 sets of high top dreads my first set my dreads touched my shoulder in like 2 1/2 years my second set I took out cause they wasn’t done the way I liked them to be done now I’m on my 3rd set they’re around 5-6 inches I love high top dreads more convenient for me instead of full set and I could care less about the “hamburger meat” 😂 I’ll get a cut when I feel like it
Do what makes you happy 🙄 I didn’t know it was this much extra shit 😭
I got hightop dreads myself, and I'm one of those brothas who REFUSES to get a hairline taper ✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾 I personally HATE the look, it takes away from the entire dreadhead appearance, in my opinion, and I also have no plans to invest in the idea of a full set. I actually started mine out very skinny, in the beginning, but eventually, after some years, I wound up cutting out a good handful to combine them at the roots and make them thicker, a complete success, by the way 😁😎👍🏾👍🏾
I can truly say just embrace the journey I.E.- commit thats all you need to do and your locs will grow
Lol my boy said a Pecking order!
Yeah mine got nicked alot. And my loc tech just disappeared so I'm going to maintain my own hair and cut my own
This is part of the reason why I chose to start on a drop/low fade…so I have some of that volume with some of that space for a decent undercut.
But let’s talk about the deforestation on the line of demarcation that can happen when you keep a faded set. Make sure you tell your barber to be mindful each time to make sure your locs remain intact.
You gettin em right with the knowledge bro!
@@TPlocks I got it from you bro!
"Hamburger Meat" 😭😭😂😂 you extra ahahaha
I actually love my high top best style I like being able to clean my up and look crisp when my hair is in a pony and the fade is fresh!
Facts 🔥🔥🔥 same here family
yessir
✊🏾💯
Have you ever thought of cutting your locs and starting again with a full set? I started with high top locs, I’m two months in and kind of thinking I wish I went full set but going to stick it out.
I’ve had my high top locs since 2018 and they’re now hitting the middle of my back. I always get a low fade or a drop fade that way my barber isn’t really messing to much with the hair that’s close to my locs plus a lower fade just looks more current. As far as styles when they’re longer you can rock different styles but I just two strand twist. All of those other styles promotes thinning at the roots
Even though I wish I had a full head of locks my high top locks gave me so much confidence I love them my hair is thick so when I wear it down can’t tell anyways and it’s just a easier look to roc
I started from a temp fade Afro but after awhile my Afro stopped growing and hair was shedding bad so I locked it up and my hair took off I'm going 2years in an this warm weather is speeding up my growth I noticed so I slowed down on using oils but I embrace that side new growth into I find myself twisting it🤷🏿♂️
How'd I miss this one... I'm sorry!
Before I cut off my first set I tried high top locks for about two weeks. It was awesome but the maintenance was killer lol. I had spent the entire time up to that getting zero haircuts.
@@tajsimms8976 I never have to worry about haircuts ever, so it was a change of pace for me. I’ll stay retwisting though
I have high top locs, and I live them but there is a part of me that do wish I would have started a full set cause of the reasons you addressed, by now mine would be touching my shoulders and it does feel like it's growing slower... right now they are just below my eyes...
However, right now I feel, when they reach my shoulders I'm good, I don't think I want them down my back and so forth, plus at that point, I think, styles become more complicated
in the past I tried and tried and tried to maintain a full head of locs but it was too much work, so after trial and error, I decided on a hightop set and now nearly seven years later, they're creeping down between my shoulder blades and are actually longer than some of my coworkers who have a full head of locs
I’ve already started my high top locs and I’m a couple months in and I don’t want to restart and I know I don’t have a lot of locs, What can you you do to make it look more Volumeous
gotta admit I m thinking to do the journey but with ‘Dermatitis Seborrhoeic’. . not gona lie i m scared of the itchyness already :p. Thanks for the vid
I’ve got it too fam! I’ve learned to manage it with my health and house of Isis products!!!
2 year for my high top to reach my shoulders
3 years for me with the hightop but I shaved it grow out my Afro and now I’m back to starter locs
You have the moon roof bro 🤣
hightop sets are just they way for me as i like to keep the sides and back short and crisp. I feel like it is an easier style to maintain and play around with. More versatile i guess
Maintenance wise it’s a bigger Commitment to having a CLEAN set of high top locks… but at the same time I can see why we would be second to last on the chart
Just started my locs yesterday with 2 strands
Started a full set of dreads 4 years ago and had to cut them due to me twisting them too much and causing a bald spot. Still struggles to grow back till this day so I recently decided to start out with a high top and restart my dread journey instead of going bald every 5 months 😂
I'm actually thinking about cutting my sides to fit better inside helmets. Full set is such a pain in the ass to get in and out of helmets. Wondering if cutting the sides would make it easier.
I’m thinking about doing this, can’t fit helmets or hats if I don’t have a fresh retwist lol
I mean I have a lochawk now so I’m gonna between however I did cut the the last back row yesterday, I kinda regret it kinda don’t but I’m gonna let that grow out and attach it to the ones that I already (and just shape up the bottom of it) have but the ones a cut off were so hard to grow and they were so loose compared the rest of my hair that I thought they’d never grow, they probably would if I waited. I still have my shaved sides of 5 yrs, never getting rid of those.
I also felt like the bleach (they felt really hard compared to the rest of my locs and some of my thicker ones) in them was just stuck in 2 of the 4 that I cut and I just couldn’t get it out and when wash day came around I was always lazy and tired when it came to wash them since they were in the back of my head.
I’m 6 months in with my high tops
How do I get a full set of locs I have a high top but I’ve been growing the sides for almost 8 months I was thinking about getting starter locs for the sides
i cut my high top recently and im growing a full set
I’m at 10 yrs locs …imma restart with a wick high top …. Y’all need to understand your hair will take time to Balance out … you think it’s not growing but it’s balance in out … and only put cotton on your hair to dry it after a wash … keep proper scarf Square on you at all times to cover your hair …. And put it on in harsh conditions …. Get you some rosewater and spray your head daily or every other day but I cannot stress enough to keep your head covered !!! the elements , direct sunlight is not your friend and that will ultimately prevent your hair from looking its best
i went the opposite direction and grew out my taper after having a decent length. but i just hide them in my two-strand-twist.
