Definitely full head. With a full head, after the first year you require no maintenance. Yeah sure maybe you gotta get edged up if you care about that stuff, but retwists are completely optional. With high tops, you’re forced to go in for a fade, otherwise you’ll have an Afro growing underneath your dreads.

Congrats on 5k it’s been a long journey but it’s worth it
I've been high top for 3 years, ended up cutting it last year in the fall. Fades only last around 2 weeks, after that you have to keep dropping money to make sure it lasts. I'm regrowing my hair now and definitely trying full head instead.
I’ve had both and it honestly just depends on the individual. Some people look better with a high top and some people look better with a full head. Personally I like my low taper dreads the most because the high top dreads only looked great when I had a fresh fade. If you don’t get haircuts on a regular basis I recommend going with a full head because they look good with and without a fresh fade
How long yo hightop dreads was cuz if they starter locs they always need a fresh cut to look clean but once they get longer you can go alot longer on the hightop version without a cut
@@whoeva23 even after they matured, I still always thought they only looked great when I had that fresh fade. Although, as I stated earlier, the hairstyle fits everyone differently. A full head was the style that I felt fit me best. A correction to my previous comment is that I recommend a full head because it is less noticeable when you go a long time without that haircut.

You can do more styles with full head but high top looks more cleaner when you get a cut rather choose full head tho because everybody has high top now🤷🏿♂️

I cut my high tops off back in January a few days after New Years and am looking to get a full set a few days after New Years 2023, which will be a year since I cut my high tops off lol. As of now I have 6 months of hair growth, which is an Afro with a temp fade. I had 1 year of hair growth when I started my high top locs and am looking to do the same when I start my full. I would start sooner but it feels like my locs grow much faster when I have that year of hair growth.
I'm a year in full top and so far it's pretty nice. Everyone with high top seem to regret it and I'm not sure why yet. 1st time with dreads

I've had my full real head of dreads with not even a line up, color or chemicals for about 3 years now and it has been a rough, but humbling experience. I've always had fades my whole life and experimented with full head twisties here and there but couldnt pass the ugly stages because of work. Then I joined the military and really got tired of fades, seeing that style everyday everyday got boring... Don get me wrong fades look amazing but it only takes away from the beauty of the journey of growing dreadlocks In my opinion.

I’m thinking about getting a high top fade for my dreads bc I’m getting tired of all of these dreads in my face then on top of that I have like 80+ dreads to retwist which takes forever and they also make my head feels heavy so I just wanna try something new but thanks for the tips bc I wanted to know the pros and cons of both.

Telling you from experience; It wont make a difference. You're still gonna have locs in your face unless you tie it back and your head will feel heavy regardless

@@0fficialcheeto I loved the look from high top dreads but its costly. Fades disappear maybe every 2 weeks, so you're gonna have to constantly drop money every 2 weeks to keep the sides looking crisp. Its a lot more maintenance then full head imo

I was just watching a video saying how hightop requires more maintenance but oh well if that’s what it is then it is what it is... I’ve been growing hair for like 3 years now and it’s about 7-9 inches all around now, I been rocking hightop braids the past year but I’m over having to take care of them and I’ve been feeling ready to start my loc journey I’m just stuck between do I cut all my hair off to start a full head cuz I guess “it’s better” n easier but I don’t really care bout that I think hightop would look pretty good on me and wouldn’t be too much to handle except getting it retwisted all the time but depending on how I have it I won’t be a problem w me not getting it retwisted all the time.
@@lxlshyne nah bro don’t cut it off, I cute my hair off in august and regretted it so much, just start the dreads with your hair you already have, i guess you can cut it down to like 5 or 6 inches and loc them

Yeah probably more even than a full head in some ways.

My twists are pretty short (8 inch) and I started with high tops not knowing anything and I want to get full head. Should I cut off all my twist to restart or should I just grow out the sides?
bro said short ☠ 8 inches is pretty far into the journey you might need to restart but if you have patience grow out the side and maybe cut your current twists a lil shorter

yea i have blowout and freeforms and i kinda neglected the back and focused on the front and top, so my dreads in the back starting to look wrong. i don’t know if i should get a just get a drop fade or get it twisted

You don’t have to restart completely. I originally grew full head of Locs, then cut part of them off to make a high top dreads. But when lockdown came last year I couldn’t really go to the barbers often so I’ve decided to grow out the bottom. So underneath my long dreads I got shorter Locs so i should be able to even them out in a couple of years. I regret having ever cutting them tbh.
