Master barber here . Listen to this man . Please . We will give you a line up because your wants come first . But a good barber will tell you what you need as well .
What makes you a master
@@eastsidepb8139 basically means hes been a professional for close to a decade and knows how to do more styling than just cutting.
Lineups are reserved for special occasions ONLY!! I'll be damned if I end up looking like Uncle Stevie Wonder.

Thank you so much for this video, I'm in a time period where I'm very insecure about my locs and you just saved me.
👍🏽🙏🏽
Big up this man. For anyone seeking a solution that keeps your head looking neat, I have started putting a single row of cornrow braids (middle part for me but whatever works) that I braid along my hair line and tuck behind my ears. Not only does my hair line stay intact and full, but it also shapes the face very nicely almost like you're wearing civic crown (roman crown). 💯 much love
Moon roof is crazy 😂😂 but when I do start my locs I’m definitely going the natural route, lineups only for special occasions!
Coming up on a year here in December, I’ve gotten a total of 3 haircuts and 5 retwists. I wash my hair sometimes twice a week and i sleep with my bonnet 80% of the time. My hairline is the exact same and I personally like the nappy look because its more how our ancestors did it. Yall keep having fun and stay safe, God bless

I Had a flattop fade, curls turned locs.
I ended up up with a tapered hairline as I would go to the barber up to 3 times in a single week. I quickly learned how essential it is to minimize how frequently you go to the 💈 💈💈
Currently I have a full head of hair without any tapered hairline/ high top fade.
Thank you Again💙

I honestly think it depends on how often you get your lineup. I get a lineup once a month after I get a retwist and my hairline was never pushed back I had my dreads for 4 years now.
he talking about the niggas who get they shit done like every week
Haven't had a line up in years and my hair has grown far more healthier because of it I no longer care for that perfect 90° angle because all it ever did was push my hairline back I don't have that perfect hairline but so long as it's full and growing that's good enough for me
I appreciate this 😅 I actually spent far too long rabbit 🕳 hole searching after your last video when you mentioned the taper, cuz I had no idea wth you meant 😂
I been doing this even before I got dreads in general. I only get hair cuts for specials events or occasions. I only had 3 haircuts and 3 retwist this year. It’s been a month since I had my last haircut but it’s fine those months going without a haircut hit different than getting every 2 weeks 😂
Great video. planning on starting my loc journey this weekend and all the info was very helpful
I’m happy to help fam! I respond to comments too so if you ever have a question just pull up! ✊🏾🔥
W vid!! i don't even get lineups no more i'll cut my taper to like 6mm if it gets a bit too unruly but i find brushing down my taper w/ some oil and brushing my baby hairs into a clean line gives me a super clean edge
Can you go into more detail on how you do it
This is real clean and amazing advice 💯
Great advice, I stopped getting lined up at least a year ago and it’s the best decision I made
Yeah I get a cur without a line-up. Each time the barber ask if I want that line up. I’m like bro No. I’m growing my hair out and I touch it up a lil bit but now that it’s longer I use gel and do my edges with a comb. Lining be looking like a ruler big bother
ppl think they can stay fresh 24/7 and this man shows up like a loc’d up Madara saying “Wake up to reality”

I haven’t had a line up in about 8 years . Before I had locs I had a fro. And when I had a fro I didn’t line it up. The result. My edges are thick af. I’m glad I have good genes. I dont have balding in my family. And I’m 31 and haven’t had a single grey hair yet.
W Video Bro, This Was A Great Informational Video On Saving Your Locs & Hairlines For A Fact King!! 🤣😎🙏🏾🖤🔥
I had a moon roof front taper but I made a recovery and now my taper is normal, no more bald fades, dark Shadow tapers only for me and retwist before hair cut first always 💯
This goes for braids too! I get cut every 4 months. And I make sure I tell my barber how I want my hair cut. I always tell them barely touch my line. I don’t need a sharp edge up.
Learn to cut yourself, only YOU know how u want it
Speaking big facts young man
I found the cheat code to this. I cut my front locs into bangs like Swae Lee when he had dreads. And I never put my bangs's into my ponytail so they always stay down and never get pulled on. And that way I also hide my tape line so I don't need to get lineups in the front. I just get my sides and back faded when I go to the barber. I'm protecting my hairline and bitches love my bangs 🤣
“The bishes love my bangs” is easily quote of the year 😂😂
Show a pic or sum bruh
Learned the hard way to avoid barbershops if you don't have already have a retwist.
Had to comb out my first set of locs then start over again.
I also would recommend getting interlocked more than palm roll retwist.
Bless up for these videos man
I approve of this message Facts 💯
I highly recommend y’all listen to him. I started out with a full head of locs in 2012 and with constant retwisting and line ups, I ended up with a pushed back hairline and a high top fade by 2022. It was a tough decision to make but I decided to cut off my locs this June. I’m getting them reattached next month with some extensions to fill my head back up. I learned my lesson and I won’t be making those mistakes again.
I had to regrow my hairline
@@YungPhilosopher No, I’m not. Just used the wrong terminology. I no longer deal with pushback issues now that I don’t go to the barbershop

That’s huge bro! Honored fam! Also big ups on that 2 yearrrr! That’s a fun time!!!
I don’t do lineups AT ALL to avoid this. I wanna actually see my 3 year loc journey come true 😂🎉 but I recommend doing lineups once every month or 2 months depending on how you can make the lineup last
aren’t you scared of breakage at the hairlinev
@@jaden5843 yea but I don’t cause it
I’m almost 1 year freeform. No tapers or lines. I just got married so I got a soft line up but they didn’t go across the front of my head. Came out nice but wouldn’t do it again unless for special occasion
Both my stylist and barber both have high knowledge on hair so both of there works go good together
Glad u made this video it has to be addressed even when a celebrity does this to themselves it’s unacceptable they LOOK DUMB FR
As a barber, I keep the hairline natural. And if any lineup needs tapering. Then I’ll barley go up. I feel it should be no more then an inch thick. Not all the way to the middle of your forehead. Unfortunately I can’t control how far back my previous clients hairlines were cut from previous barbers.
I grew my hair for a year & made a mistake by getting a front & back taper line up & I regretted it & cut it. I’m now growing my hair out for 4 months with no line up just a small tape up I do myself. I preferred cornrows naturally laid on my hairline.
I saw one so far back I lost it 🤣🤣
😂😂😂 where 👀
@@TPlocks me and my wife was at a gathering in Atlanta
These new barber is gonna get us ball before time I have to sto take lineup
Facts brudda 👍🏾
As usual, great content!
I think it’s important to tell your barber to not dig into your locs. Specify where they need to cut it down and where to stop. Many barbers dig into the locs on the edges causing this.
Gotta remember people with waves can constantly het lineups because their actual hairline is under the overgrowth they lay down from wolfing.
I decided to not get any lineups, maybe for thanksgiving..
Truth fam! I’m in growth mode now myself! Gotta get my hairline back! 🥲😂
Facts, they’re not touching the hairline, they are pushing back the hang over which does no damage! If you are consistently pushing back your actual line then you’re harming it
I was born with a unique line so I've never been able to have the perfect boxed shaped line. I chose to get locs on my line because a taper would make me look crazy! My shit is rounded. The locs covering it makes it look normal.
The intro crazy😂😂
Thank you bro, I been telling people. I get a cut every two months and when I get a retwist I get it before the cut.
thank God my barber does my locs and my cuts
We here!!!
Ayeee bro! 🔥🔥🔥
In hindsight, watching this video now, would’ve been more helpful about four years ago. I was literally doing all of the things he said not to do and because of my ignorance, I lost a lot of locks around my sideburns and nape areas. When I initially had my locks started, I had a full head of lox. Now, I’ve lost about a quarter of my logs primarily in those areas aforementioned. So for those who are on the fence, especially regarding getting lineups, I advise from experience get your re-twist first, then your lineup. Please.
🙏🏾
Good thing and bless with a decent natural hair line. When I decide to grow my hair I never take any line up because it would keep encroaching everytime. Look at Sean Paul when he had long hair. Plus I ain't want any low top or high top corn row or dreads I want an entire head full.
im glad i found ppl who thinks this ain’t right
I miss my locs hella bad. I was getting the moon roof and slowly noticed it Lmao. It was bound to happen anyway because baldness runs in my family. But if I would’ve followed these things in my journey, I could’ve went further. Man I swearrrr I ain’t like the tapered hairline. I always called it the Omarion hairline lol. But I deff needed that tapered hairline or thicker locs in the front in order to go further in my journey.
When I got my first line up w my locs I made it super clear, brush my hairs down and line that, DO NOT give me that bs 😂😂
Much Love and Respect from Seattle 💙💚✊🏽🌃🌌🌬️💨🌳🌲
Ayeeee that’s home town! 🔥🔥🔥
Got my shit pushed back a bit from lining up, so I just let the part that got pushed grow out again and now I just line the front of the new growth and I'm letting it grow right back into my locs. Luckily it didn't get pushed far enough to be noticed. So now I'm good. And I get cut once every 2 to 3 months, I don't care about looking messy for a month or two so I'm good now. Looks good and I don't have to worry about thinning out my locs or losing hair anymore.
facts imma do the same and ease on the lineups
I made this mistake when I was younger, with all of the lineups. Eventually it did push my hairline back. I stopped getting line ups so frequently and started using minoxidil to bring it back. It’s not completely fixed but overtime it has gotten better and it doesn’t look like I have moonroof anymore
Does minoxidil help with hair growth overall and does it have any side effects in your experience
Just learned today that rosemary essential oil seriously has the same results as that, except none of the side effects
@@ysl4life383i never had any side effects besides my skin getting very dry, but i also only ever used it on my face, it worked for me pretty good and filled in my beard pretty nice over the course of about 8 months being consistent with it
Only thing I’ve experienced is dry patches where it’s been applied. Slight irritation when I first started
where do u get minoxidil
I’m so happy I never did any trendy ish with my locs. I just twisted my hair and let it it do what it do. Not really in it for the styling lime that. Don’t do the braids thing either I put it up or let it fall
That's funny when I had 360 waves I still liked the natural look ; got drop fades no shape up ; now on loc journey, I'm good on shape ups
Social anxiety lol. Listen Mr. Barber don’t touch my hair line in the front, do we understand!!! Appreciate ya bro
😂😂😂 covid made me soft?
@@TPlocks tighten up 🆙
do you think we should do the same if we get braids? I dont have dreads but I get my hair braided once per month/ month and a half and also get a lineup & low taper the same day. I enjoyed the video first time watching!
That orange cap looks like a tea cosy
He said Moon roof hairlines I’m dead 😂😂😂
And seriously line ups are a no go for locs. The back of mine were thinning from my barber cutting too much into sections that were apart of them so now I just let my hairline grow and trim it down
This happened to me a few times. It’s an easy fix. Just let the front grow back for a few months then twist or braid it back in.
Bro that's exactly what I did, but I have braids, not dreads
Yea bro when it gets like that you just gotta sacrifice a couple months without a shakeup and let the front grow back. I normally do it in these winter months when I can get away with wearing a hat. By spring, summer everything crispy
So wait til it starts looking fuller then get a cut? Essentially right?
Good video
If you keep twisting and pulling the locks overtime they’ll start to weaken and fade out, next you’ll be be saluting from way back like yes sir 🫡
When I first started my Dreadlock Journey I move my Locks up so the weight wouldn't make my hairline go up.
For anyone who cuts their own hair. I recommend cut, wash, twist n style, line. Idk bout u guys but I def need a fresh wash after each cut and I'm sure u don't wanna wash ur hair after a fresh retwist
For new folks…How are you able to tell what hair needs cutting/lining and what needs retwisting in your lineup area? Are you maintaining the lineup more regularly so it doesn’t wolf? Also, do you have a hightop?
@@TPlocks yeah I got a set of Hightop locks but before you cut it I hold my dreads up or put them in a bunch and as I'm combing out my undercut before the cut you should not feel any pulling or tangled hair as your combing away from the part where your dreads start. If you feel any pulling at all its likely your pulling from your locks. And I cut my hair about every 2 or 3 weeks but I've def been going about 2 months sometimes more between each retwist
It'll be a year Thursday, that I started my loc journey, no retwist yet and rarely get cuts
A lot of ppl talk down on the black spray but that can save your hairline

In the process of growing my tapper out , that’s another journey by it’s self , trying to figure out if i should just get small locs or get loc extensions a lot of people never done it before
Same here. I’m just letting my sides and back grow back out. Then after awhile I’ll combine the loose hair into my locs.

The robot 🤖 sound got me rolling
dude i came to this conclusion a while ago. fucc line ups. i have semi free form dreads and i have a natural thick and decently straight hair line. I realized i don't constantly need a line up for my hair to look good. and i have been loving not needing to go to a barber. look at models like luka sabbat and lenny kravitz they have long dreads with no taper or lineups, and it looks so good on them. black people are the main ones that focus so heavy on needing a lineup 24/7.
I cut my own hair. So I don’t cut off the over hang. I also make sure my front taper doesn’t push back… I made sure to give myself a very small taper.🤧
I’ve never been to the barbers in the fours years that I’ve been growing my locs
Thank you for this I ain’t even look for it but you saved a head of locks 😅
it’s why i’m glad i became a self barber because i let my hair grow out for like a month and a half for the sole purpose of making sure my hairline grows to where it naturally is before i line and fade it up
I be getting full blown tapers but to ur point I’m not doing too much too my lining my barber after a retwist does a very light trim and lines me where my lining is at
Yesssir 🫡
✊🏾
Another thing you can do is let your hairline grow out and dread it little by little until you only got a small amount of taper left that’s what I’m doin rn
Thx
Aye bro I just went from full set to high top last month and been loving it so far. I just got some clippers so I’m gonna try learning to do a taper by self with bae helping
Ayee what’s up bro! (Brother Moses/Jesus) 😅 Welcome to the hightop squad fam! ✊🏾 How you liking it so far?
What made you decide to go from full to high top if you don't mind me asking? I got high top and mine are shoulder length but just started growing out the sides
I cut my full set off completely actually! That was my set from college and HS. I chose the hightop the second time because of the versatility. My hair is super thick. (95 locs and not even using half my head!😅) When I had a full set, I couldnt wear hats, couldn’t do pineapples or ponytails, it just seemed limiting. Those things wouldn’t prevent me from getting them today but it was definitely my reason for starting em. That and the growing number of folks that gave me the confidence to grow them as hightops. Prior to Killmonger, there weren’t many depictions of hightop lockers in mainstream! Seeing him, dynasty tv, Gunther and all those guys with em, inspired me to try them! Glad I did! Feel like it’s the best of both worlds in one!
@@TPlocks yea man I'm debating it. I think the high top is more versatile, but i also wear my hair down a lot so I like the way a full set looks when it's down. Also high top requires a little more maintenance in my opinion. I also don't know a lot of people with longer high top locs except for you and a couple rappers I can think of...Thanks for the input bro even though now I'm even more unsure of which way to go 🤔😂
@@TPlocks Honestly bro I love it - my head feels lighter, and washes are so quick. I've been rocking two-strand twists lately
I’m growing my hair out for locs now so how often should I get lineups. Now I’m doing every three-4 weeks.
nle's is fire
I honest believe that lineups cause you to lose your line up… if you’re getting a lineup every week then maybe, but every 3/4 weeks shouldn’t cause any issues at all, most men start to lose their hairline by 25+ anyway!
Always get a retwist first before getting a cut because if u don’t your barber will most likely cut important hair off
Becareful ya’ll having your tapered hairline for too long without switching it up can cause traction alopecia. When you taper your hairline your essentially parting it in the front and parting your hair for long periods of time can cause damage.
A groom people saying have a tapered hairline , the other group is saying to not have one . Which one is it ?🤦🏿♂️
Bro got that rayy bandzz intro
I trust you
🙏🏾
Do you think your locks have slowed down on growth? Great video as usual👌🏾👌🏾
Thanks fam! Nah not really! I think my hair is prone to a lot of shrinkage though. I have a tight 4c hair texture mostly! I never really get to see the length until I shower and the weight of the water helps it stretch to its max length.
After wash day, it’s kept in a bonnet most of the time. When you all see it, it’s usually just coming out the head cover! 😅
Dry and all. 😅
@@TPlocks 🤣🤣 shoot I havent retwist in 3 months. I love look tho. It's not too bushy where it's not acceptable. Good thing I haven't preached on Sunday in while or else these bad boys would be swinging all over the place.

Bruh my hairline got bad when i hit 17-18 im 20 now i noticed both my right and left corners went back a bit and i have no idea why so i just grew high top dreads for like 1 year and ive been wearing head bands through the growing process cause my bad hairline drops my self esteem. I just let my dreads fall over my face and cover my hairline i cant work up the courage to have them up. my hairline isnt going back anymore but dam i don't think ill ever be having my locs up ever

Might be the durag G. I’m 23 and same shit happened to me when I was younger trying to get waves
Genetics bro
Definitely wish I knew about the different textures when I got mine set up, but I'm already a year in so I'm just paying extra attention to certain spots.
This goes for men with longer hair in general I get about 4-5 haircuts a year
I’m back growing my hair again after cutting for the 20th thousand time I had little high top dread farthest I ever got didn’t like the high top trying again I’m only getting taper on the sides and back
Nah cause if you don’t have a tapered Hairline before you have locs don’t try and get when soon as you start your locs
That’s a good point fam! You be getting folks crissssspy out here. We see you! 🔥🔥🔥
